A little noisy. Hotel staff very friendly and accomodating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Travelers should know that you must check in at the Hotel Bella Venezia around the corner and down the Calle dei Fabbri.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was in a great location. The staff was wonderful. The room was quaint but tiny!! Overall we loves it. Make sure you get directions before you go, it is very hard to find.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Know where you are going"
First off, we weren't told to go to another hotel to get the key and someone would take to the hotel. The street was only one-half block long and the locals did not seem to know where it was located. The room was tiny--we had to get out of each other's way just to walk around the bed which took up almost the entire room. The street noise was very loud, […] very late. The location was great, but that's about it. Wouldn't stay there again or recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Had to checkin in a different hotel which was not clear during booking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
From the outside you wouldn't guess the high quality inside. The only problem was that no sign on the door or hint on the web page lets you know that check in is actually at the Bella Venezia around the corner. We found a locked door and it took some detective work to figure out where to go to gain access. Once inside, this is a newly renovated hotel, […] the rooms are excellent and breakfast is at the higher category mother hotel, Bella Venezia. Location is great, close to everything.
Genuine Expedia guest review

"Only the location was satisfactory!"

First the good news: the location was brilliant - between S. Marco and Rialto, and so close to the latter that it was easy to take our cases to and from water transport and hotel. We were provided with excellent recommendations for restaurants for dinner - the Bistrot de Venise close by and Diavolo e Acquasanta on the other side of Rialto bridge. However, despite this we will not be using this hotel again nor any of the other residences connected to Hotel Bella Venezia. The suite we had was apparently the best (and it was nice) but it was located above a busy street with a late and very noisy bar nearby, so that we were not able to sleep until about 02.00. We were awoken again at 06.00 by what sounded like the arrival of the shop owners getting ready for another day, unloading boxes, etc and shouting to each other. We had closed the shutters to the windows during the night and could do no more to muffle the noise. We complained at reception that morning, and without apology (this hotel doesn't recognise complaints and certainly doesn't do apologies) offered us the only other suite, which we accepted rather than experience another sleepless night. The replacement was not a suite - it had a corridor with a sofa with open steps leading up to the attic where there was barely room to walk round the bed. Calls of nature during the night had to be planned because the bathroom was down below off the aforementioned corridor. The steps were deep and I hit my head on the first descent. This room would not have received a health and safety clearance in the UK. We weren't fully aware of all of these problems before we experienced them and this was the only alternative to finding another hotel at short notice. Later we realised that this room did not have a number over the door, just the legend "Privado". It is probably not a room they would let on a regular basis, but one that is set aside for emergencies or for staff overnight stays (it would have been the servants quarters in a previous life!). We had been asked to pay for our room on arrival and we now wished that we hadn't complied. I asked who I might speak to about a refund, particularly relating to our non-suite on the second night (we had paid about £250 per night for the pleasure!) but was informed that no refund was due as we had had the best suite for the first night and they had provided an alternative room, which they considered to be a suite! I have taken photographs of this so-called suite and will be taking the matter further. Our discussion was overheard by a young American couple who were also very unhappy about their accommodation in the nearby Residenza Ca' San Marco (also part of this hotel complex) - they had been travelling all over Europe on their honeymoon and told us that unfortunately they had saved the worst room until last!! Breakfast was a totally self-service affair (we had to queue for the tea/coffee machine) and it was a "zoo" as we all fought our way past each other to collect our food and drink. Having breakfast on holiday is usually a relaxing and pleasurable affair, but not at this place. I have written to the hotel on our return, but still await a reply.

Locando la scala is located in a narrow street sideways of Frabri. From the outside you think "what did I book now"? The inside is small but confortable. We were in a room on the forth floor.. There is an elevator. Bathroom is small and only one adult fits in. The bed was very good and the sheets are changed daily. Breakfast is served in a hotel located 50 meters away. Don't be surprised... the reception is also located in that hotel so ring the doorbel and wait for someone to come and get you for registration and the electronic door keycard ;-)
"A great place to stay in Venice"
10/11/14 DavidMedinaPR San Juan, Puerto Rico
Venice is a very unique place and experience. It is a place like no other. Full of art and culture, Venice is a must go place that should be in every bucket list. September and October are great time as it is not hot nor too cold.Just pleasant weather. We were pleasantly surprise went we arrived at our room. After hearing from many that rooms in Venice are small and expensive, we were glad we found Palazzo La Scala. Very nice spacious and decorated suite. We had a very restful sleep as hotel is very peaceful. Very nice and spacious bathroom and room. It has a nice lift (elevator) and it is located in a very safe area of town. It included a very tasty breakfast at Hotel Bella Venecia. Great value. Close to great restaurants and shops. When you come in make sure you choose the Rialto Bridge boat stop and not the San marcos Plaza stop as the Rialto landing is closer. You need to go to Hotel Bella Venice to check in before you go to Palazzo La Scala. We are going back to venice next year and we will be staying again at Palazzo La Scala.

I feel compelled to review this hotel based on the many negative comments on TA. About me: 1. I am an Aussie, 28yo and hubby is 30. 2. We are experienced travelers - currently on a round the world trip. 3. I have very high expectations. Why we booked this hotel: 1. Booking 2-3 days in advance. 2. Venice was at 80% capacity Truthfully, the comments on TA made me extremely nervous about staying here. I expected it to be awful based on comments. The hotel: 1. The location is fantastic, especially if you are touring Venice quickly (we are here 3 days) and you want to be close to the attractions, and don't want to walk over too many bridges with your luggage. We caught the train, then vaparetto (water bus) and walked to get here (only passing one small bridge) It was easy. 2. Yes, check-in is at the sister hotel. We pressed the buzzer and a bellboy arrived and checked us in at the other hotel. He then took us to our room. 3. Breakfast is also at the other hotel. It was gorgeous, very high tea looking with flowers and 3 tier servers full of jam on every table. It was a pleasant surprise and overlooks a canal so you can watch early morning gondolas passing by. The room: 1. We stayed in room 102. The room is green, but it is not as ugly as the TA photos make it look. I would describe it as a pastel mint colour. Most importantly the room has two large windows that can be opened to let fresh air and light into the room. This is a must for me when I travel. 2. The room is small. Basically it is fitted around the double bed, so if you are looking for a spacious room, take heed. This has proved difficult as we have 2 large suitcases and often have to jump over the bed to get around each other. It's ok. The bellboy removed a chair for us to have more space, that helped. 3. The bed mattress is soft and comfortable. The sheets are clean and feel luxurious. 4. The bathroom is small and like everywhere in Italy the bidet is king of the bathroom, taking up valuable space. But once the door is closed there is room to move around and lovely windows to let fresh air in. The shower was hot and no water heating problems. The shower head is removable, and wouldn't stay all the time, but we ducked around it. I won't say the bathroom is modern, but it is new and neat. 5. The aircon does not cool the room. It sounds like it is on, and some air pushes through, but it is basically redundant. Lucky we are here in early autumn. 6. We can hear water from other peoples bathrooms trickling through the wall plumbing. While this is annoying, it certainly didn't keep us up at night. 7. Being on the first floor, we can hear passers by as the sounds echo through the walls. It can be loud, and as another reviewer said on TA, there is a cigarette machine on the corner where people gather to smoke and chat. I found that this was around the 7-9pm mark and then they slowly disappear. By the time we went to bed, the streets were empty and quiet. 8. There is hanging cupboard space, a safe and a minibar. There is also a desk under the wall mounted TV so we had a space to stash our things, as the bedside table is small. 9. The room is very clean. The bathroom was impeccable and the towels are soft and fresh, and replaced daily. There are plenty toiletries and even slippers. 10. There is only 1 mirror in the room. It is next to the shower and has it's own light for makeup/shaving etc. This annoys me, especially as I like to have a full length mirror. 11. Wifi works ok in our room. Hope that helps you decide if you want to stay here. Really it's based on how importantly you value your space! Venice is super crowded, so it's lovely to have a calm space to rest and relax between touring. By the time you hang out on the bed, you'll realise you don't need heaps of space - the hard part is getting ready and without a mirror!
"Great location, Poor accomodation"

The location of this hotel is perfect being a very short walk to either San Marco Square or Rialto Bridge. This hotel (if you can call it that) is just a block of rooms with no lobby. In fact not knowing that it doesn't have any person at the door, we stood outside the sign and banged the door down to be let in. This followed ringing the bell next to the door for a good 15 mins without a response. Eventually a passer by told us that the check in is through another hotel about 50 meters away. So back we went into the main street looking for that hotel and managed to check in. The room was horribly small albeit quite clean. The sleeping experience wasn't too peaceful though as throughout the night there were noises coming from the room above. Conclusion: Best to avoid staying here.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon ... We found it extremely hard to find and in the heat and with suitcases very frustrating. Didn't know we had to check in at other hotel. The porter was then helpful with the cases. The room when we got there was very small but we expected that in Europe esp Venice. Was rather old fashioned quaint room where the pluming was rather old and walls very thin. Breakfast was good at the other hotel. All in all fab location staff mostly friendly but very helpful and the room was spotlessly clean .

Great location but that 's it. It is neither a guesthouse nor a hotel. It is a damp smelling ,depressing building with rooms, no charm or reception. The man at the desk down the street who greeted us and made the first impression had filthy finger nails, a shirt with grubby cuffs and the hem hanging down . He insisted we paid for the room before we'd even seen it -treated more like a backpacker than a 50 year old professional traveller and was put out to say the least - and showed it- when we asked to see the room first. The bedspread was ripped ; the asst manager said that was "unimportant" and the damp smell he told me was the smell of Venice. The shower took 10 mins to warmup, poor water pressure . Worst part - the absent manager emailed me and cc'd Expedia suggesting I had confirmed I was perfectly happy in the place, although I had said nothing of the sort !! Would have been funny had it not been such a rip off. Please find somewhere else to stay.

Rather good localization, 5 mins from San Marco Piazza. Great place to live, good caffes and restaurants here. The hotel is clean and the room was large enough. No room service so you cant order any drinks or food but it is not a big problem. Would recommend to stay.
"Lovely Guest-house with Fabulous Location & Breakfast"
05/18/14 HighcroftManor Toronto, Canada
Stayed here for 3 nights in early May. First time in Venice and this place was perfect. Can't beat the location - half-way between Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square - each about 5-minute walk. We booked a "suite" - which meant a separate area with a couch, in addition to the area with the bed. The extra space was appreciated. Breakfast is served a block down the street at the main hotel, Bella Venizia, and it was stupendous. The room itself was clean and adequate, bed was comfortable, mini-bar was well stocked, Wifi was excellent in room, shower was very strong (although it tends to get water on the floor). Can't vouch for A/C, (which others have criticised) since it was too cold to use. Staff at main hotel was very helpful, and speaks many languages fluently. Street outside can be a bit noisy - but this is Venice, after all, with narrow streets that echo. I would recommend spending the 10 Euros for a porter to carry your bags to the canal - it is not far, but there are steps involved and it's worth the money.
"Fantastic location, bad maintenance"
04/10/14 Peter D Antwerp, Belgium
I travelled solo, requested and got a room with a kingsize bed for 3 nights. Be well informed in advance to check in at the Bella Venezia Hotel as La Scala has no front desk. Fantastic location to visit attractions, concerts, good restaurants and very close to public transport to the airport and to the other islands in the laguna. I enjoyed the breakfast and the free wifi in the room. But... the level of maintenance in the rooms is just horrible: AC not functional (April wasn't a problem, but what about the summer months?), I had to rescan the TV set, the lock of the safe was faulty, shower doors didn't close properly, the tap on the lavabo was swinging in all directions, towels were smelling like vinegar. The staff is very friendly and helpful, so there seems to be a problem with the management of these hotels... The problems weren't as such that they spoiled my stay. If the situation further deteriorates, these problems will become a major issue in the near future if the hotels can't get their act together.
