"Good convenient hotel"
Le Fruitie is a good, convenient hotel to stay at while visiting Villedieu Les-poele. We love visiting this city for its magnificent copper pot stores, and it's closeness to Granville. The Hotel Le Fruitier is conveniently located at the heart of the city, making it a walking distance between the hotel and the most important stores. Breakfast is good, […] although not too varied. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were quite nice and accommodated us, lent us an umbrella to cope with the rain, for example. We will definitely stay there again, if we visit Villedieu Les-poele. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"An unexpected delight"
We arrived late at night and despite the late hour they were waiting for us. This ended up being one of our favorite hotels during our trip to France. It was an unexpected delight and much better than the pictures would indicate. We were in the area on our way to Mount Saint Michel and it was the perfect distance to get out of Paris and only leave an […] easy drive the next morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Older style hotel, with no airconn. Great location in a magic little town. Ideal for visiting Mt St Michel. Great value. Excellent service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good price and size of room. The decor was a bit tired and the room really needed air con, but overall we enjoyed our stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel le Fruitier - reasonable but nothing special"
Villedieu-les-Poeles is an endearing little backwater to stop over in for a night. Stayed in a "superior" room at Le Fruitier - recently decorated and in good condition, although perhaps not everyone would like the style. Well soundproofed and shutters on the windows, but no aircon so would get stuffy in the summer - the hotel looks out towards a main […] road, although it isn't particularly busy at night. There was noisy refurbishment work going on in the square outside during the day, although this looked as if it ought to be finished by the end of the year. Plenty of parking on square outside hotel. Unfortunately rather let down by somewhat indifferent service - rather unhelpful reception staff and not a very warm welcome - they just handed us the key and pointed towards the lift - and not desperately interested in sorting out minor problem with WiFi. "PETIT HOTEL SYMPA en centre ville"
Petit hotel sympa!
"Decent, but not brilliant"

Stayed here for a family wedding nearby. The location of the hotel is excellent in hat it is right in the middle of town, with free municipal parking right outside. You can pay €5 if you want private garaged parking, but unless you're driving a top of the range Porsche or Jag you don't need to bother. Restaurant attached which served good food (according to my sister, as I didn't eat there). Breakfast was fine, but not exceptional. Rooms were modern and clean with good bathrooms, comfortable mattresses. However, layout of hotter is a little strange. A few rooms seem to be on intervening floors which make lift pointless or not a great deal of help. Check this if accessibility is important to you. The wifi did not seem to be working when I was there. I did ask at the desk and since it was the weekend of the Fête Nationale there was some excuse for not being able to get a technician onto it, but if you advertise wifi, it ought to work and work well.
"A Good Place to Stay"
We stayed here en route to the West Coast. The staff were excellent. I had booked a room near the lift since one of the party was disabled and the room was the first room you came to. The other room, which was for an able bodied traveller, received a complementary upgrade. The bar staff were excellent. We reserved a space in the garage for the car. When we came to pay there was no charge for the garage. I would stay here agaIn without hesitation
"Truly appalling attitude"
06/22/14 ClogsinFrance Caen, France
This is a review of the bar/coffee corner of this hotel. It is about service / attitude of staff, not about the quality of the good. It was half past nine in the evening. We had been to the cinema and decided to have one quick drink before driving home. We walked to the hotel Le Fruitier which was around the corner. From outside you could clearly see that the bar was empty bar and how the waitress was slumped over the bar. It didn't make it very inviting but we decided to go in anyway. The waitress looked up when we opened the door, looked at us but didn't reply to our "Good evening". It was obvious that she was annoyed that some clients had decided to disturb her at that time of day. Her attitude was off-putting to say the least but as we only wanted a cappuccino, we stayed. As soon as we had found ourselves a place and had dat down, she turned around and disappeared. It was so ridiculous that it was almost amusing. We decided to wait a few minutes to see when she'd come back. She didn't. After having waited for 5 or 6 minutes we still hadn't seen her or any other member of staff so it was time to leave. When we opened the door to go outside, the waitress miraculously appeared. Maybe to see that we were actually leaving. We said goodbye but weren't surprised that she ignored us again. She obviously didn't have any understanding of what service means. I couldn't help asking her (in French of course) "Mademoiselle, don't you like customers?". Her answer was quick and clear. "No, I don't". The French finance minister Laurent Fabius has recently stated that locals must be friendlier and more hospitable to foreigners. "An unhappy tourist is a tourist that never comes back", he said. The fact that a French minister finds it necessary to make a comment about how the French should behave says it all. Service in France is sometimes appalling and they can be extremely rude. The waitress in this bar could be one of these locals that monsieur Fabius was talking about. Unfortunately for this hotel, we are not tourists. We live in France permanently, not far from the hotel, and will now think twice before going back for a drink or even a meal. There is a real problem with their service attitude - or their management - when things like this can happen. We have frequent visitors at home who like to have their freedom and ask us to recommend a hotel nearby. They expect good service and recommending Le Fruitier could therefore be embarrassing for us.
"Most unusual hotel room ever"
04/11/14 car0le_jj London, United Kingdom
I stayed there for one night, going to meet some clients. The hotel was highly recommended. My hotel room was the most unusual ever! The decor was somewhat surprising, dark brown and yellow may not be to everyone's tastes, but the most unusual was the split level! The bedroom was upstairs, which was a bit pointless considering I was on my own so didn't need so much space. Otherwise, the service was nice and pleasant, room clean, and breakfast lovely.
"A return visit - improved"
03/04/14 johnybegud Kuwait City, Kuwait
This was our third visit the Le Fruitier in 10 months. There is not a lot of choice of hotels in the area, and I have known the hotel for a number of years. The brasserie was closed for renovation this trip, but should be complete in a week or so. This was by far the best room we have had (101). Very large, but the colour scheme (orange) may put some off. The supplied toiletries are quite basis, but shower pressure excellent. We were previoulsy very dissapointed with the restaurant, but decided to try again. This time it was ok - pork fillet slices in a mushroom sauce with a pile of french fries. We have bought our property in the area, so this stay was for only two nights until we moved in there. I cannot strongly recommend the restaurant, but a nice little hotel for a few days
"Good location but disappointing stay"
08/06/13 Andrew C Willenhall, United Kingdom
We stayed for one night in July after travelling from the ferry port and were disappointed with the standard of accommodation which was some way off pictures on the website. We booked a family room which on a sunny day was stifling hot all night, the two floor room wasn't well ventilated and the upstairs sleeping section had no windows so we had to keep the electric fan on all night. We weren't impressed with the evening meal which was microwaved and tasteless but think this was because we ordered before 7pm and therefore had a limited menu. The Wifi was also not working while we were there. The room on the third floor was in desperate need of a refurb but wouldn't return until it had been refurbished. The town is attractive and easy to walk round from hotel and located just off the a84.

We had booked a room here for 8 nights during July. It was to be part of a celebration of our anniversary and partly as a base to look for property in the area. We were blessed with fantastic weather during our time there. Unfortunately one small thing can (almost) spoil the whole trip. We checked into our room. Pleasant enough, but very surprised to find exposed cable coming out of the wall above our bed (see photo). I didn’t test if they were live, but even if they were not, this was a little disconcerting. Undeterred, we chose to ignore this and make our way down to their ‘traditional’ restaurant. For main I order the speciality advertised sole (largest one – billed €27); my wife ordered the entrecote. My sole was tough and rubbery; I was unable to take it off the bone easily, and was rubbery to taste. Presentation was very poor also, with slices of alternating carrot and courgette spaced at intervals around the edge of my plate. I didn’t complain – this was the start of our holiday! My wife’s entrecote however was a disaster. She took two mouthfuls and had to spit them out to the edge of the plate (she has NEVER done this before). The waitress was informed and offered a replacement but my wife was so put off, she couldn’t face another dish. I finally tried to complain and the waitress suggested I speak to the front desk. I did so immediately and the rather rude and abrupt lady at reception said ‘but it’s what you ordered’. I explained the quality of the entrecote and my sole was very poor, but I had found the sole edible. Not so with the entrecote. She started to argue and I just stopped, let it be. I wasn’t going the let this spoil our holiday. We got no credit for the uneaten entrecote. How small minded. We were there for 8 nights – we did not eat at all in any of their outlets during our stay, losing them a not insubstantial amount of trade. Luckily this was the only bad point during our fabulous stay in Normandy. Additionally there was a large group of British teenage schoolchildren staying at the hotel for part of our stay. Noisy (heard from restaurant and public areas in the evening), playing with the lift. Did not unduly affect our stay, but I could see older cleintelle were not pleased. Hotel staff did nothing to quell the noise. Summary: room small but adequate; no a/c. Clean. Restaurant – I can only rate very poor on the above experience. Staff - some ok, one very poor! Would I stay again – unlikely. We will be back in October and looking elsewhere.
"Good clean friendly hotel"
04/10/13 Barbara S Gloucester, United Kingdom
Stayed overnight at this hotel whilst passing through Villedieu les Poeles. Booked a superior double on line and have been very happy with our choice. Good clean and friendly place and had an excellent meal in the hotel restaurant. Food was on the expensive side but well worth it as the quality was superb. Free wi fi which s always a bonus and free parking directly opposite the hotel. Room was a good size and sep loo and bath/shower facilities clean. Well recommended
"Good hotel but more attention to detail needed"
09/23/12 DELTAK England
We last stayed here several years ago and enjoyed our stay as Villedieu is a pleasant place to stroll around. We were pleased to see that our room seemed newly decorated and it had many extras - hairdrier, coffee making, electric shutters, flat screen TV (with BBC World News). There was a separate toilet and the shower room and shower cubicle were quite spacious. The shower room had no windows and no natural light and it did not help that one of the three lights was not working plus there were no hooks for hanging clothes or towels and nowhere in the shower cubicle for storing shampoo/soap etc.Our room overlooked a narrow side street and consequently did not get much natural light plus the colours chosen for the bedroom (pale greys and lilac) did not help much.Again, one of the lights above the bed did not work although there were reading lights that did work. We ate in the restaurant that night and it is a very pleasant and spacious dining area. Menus were reasonably priced, waiting staff efficient and friendly and the overall dining experience was good. overall a good stopover but I hope they brighten up the rooms a bit more.

I was amazed at that friendly hotel. Every room is different and tastefully decorated. As we had a room for 3, our room was divided in 2 levels connected with a stair. At the top level was our queen-sized bed and at the bottom was a single bed as well as an ultra-modern bathroom. Our nightstand lamps had also a smaller light, ideal for reading in bed. We've met a nice elderly couple from Great Britain who had been coming in that hotel for the last 12 years and they loved it. The beds were extra-comfortable and so were the available chairs. The walls are build in such a way that you can't hear any noise from our neighbors and once we closed the electrical external blinds it was pitch black, ideal for sleeping! We had the choice to park in the garage for a price or park in the market square. However I would advise not to park Monday nights there, as on Tuesday morning there is an actual market on that very square. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is worth every dime!
