Nice place. Walking distance to metro. If you do not have heavy suitcases then take the metro from Airport instead of cabs. Great spread for Breakfast buffet. We had a suite. Only one bathroom. An extra half bath would be prefect or at least an extra sink (instead of a lot of cupboard space). Friendly and helpful staff.

Location.
Hostal Santo Domingo is close to Teatro Alfil, Plaza Mayor, and Puerta del Sol. Also nearby are Plaza de Espana and Royal Palace.

Overall, a quaint, clean and friendly place - owner personable, small but very clean room and bathroom - more like a pension (France and Germany) - not... a hotel, but a hostal (advertising slightly misleading) - no breakfast or any other services. Price-service relationship probably okay. Neighborhood not great, or at least you have to know where to walk and where not, close to streets with "ladies of the night." Would not recommend it to upper-middle or upper-class friends. But less demanding travelers might like it. Kinda funky! The best aspect is the personable owner. The service was excellent. The staff were very helpful and corteous and spoke english well. Although the room was small (we stayed in a superior room), the interior design was very modern, the room and bathroom were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The location of the hostal was perfect if you don't mind walking. The main plazas such as Plaza […] Mayor and Puerto del Sol were only 5-10 minutes away. It only took us approximately 30 min. of walking to get to the museums and the palace. There were a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. It was quiet and safe. I would recommend this hostal to anyone. Nur hatten wir das Hotel nicht auf Anhieb gefunden, das es sich im zweiten Stock eines alten Gebäudes befindet, das nicht gross angeschrieben werden darf (Denkmalschutz-bedingt oder so).
