"A Beautiful stay in Bayeux"
We had a wonderful time at the Chateau Bellafontaine. The rooms were excellent for comfort and accommodations. The grounds may be the best part. The beautiful pond and green setting added to our memorable stay. The staff honored all of our request including ordering a rental car to be delivered for our trip out La Mont St Michele. We will come back.

"Nice, pleasant stay in Bayeux."
Friendly staff, excellent food at dinner; we very much enjoyed our stay. The only concern I have is with the very spotty internet coverage. We did not stay in the main house, and had to go outside, near there, to get wireless reception.

"Service improvement needed."
Nice chateau away from the city center. I wanted to settle my bill the evening before we left because we had to catch a 6:40 train and there is no one at the desk that early. They assured me that someone would be at the desk at 6:00 AM for check out and said that they would arrange a taxi for pick up. No one was there. We left at 6:15 and hurried on foot to train station. Luckily, my credit card info was on file for room charges.

"gorgeous comfortable Chateau near Bayeux,France"
We had a gorgeous, large, comfortable room on the top floor of the chateau (with a large modern bathroom) for a one night reservation. We loved the place so much that we asked if we could stay another night. That room was already booked, but we were able to stay in a different room the next night. That room was totally different. More like a modern suite with many stairs. Not as nice, but OK. Breakfast was fabulous.

"great staff and fun surroundings"
After reading reviews was happy with decision to stay here. The 'newer building" has some fun features but if looked at closely needs some fine tuning (poor installation of plumbing towel racks ready to pull off walls, repainting of wall repairs in bathroom.). The meals there were very good with a great staff who was always looking out for your needs.

If staying for more than one night be prepared to drive into town to eat . Restaurant was good but service very slow, only one server to do everything from taking orders, serving, answering phones, checking guests etc. Food was good and favourable Bring your own hair dryer as one in room took forever to dry long hair. Internet frustrating but that's Europe for you

"Charming hotel"
Charming hotel close to historic WWII sites in Bayeux. The chateau and grounds were beautiful. Creek running through property with ducks, geese and swans swimming. Historic building with old-world charm. Room was decently comfortable, but the bed was 2 single mattresses pushed together. Staff was friendly, but did not speak as good English as we hoped. It was easy to get to and from the hotel with our rental car, but we didn't use public transportation.

"Quiet location within walking distance of center"
This country chateau is within about 0.5- 1.0 km of the main destination spots in Bayeux, ie the cathedral and the Bayeux Tapistry. This eliminates the bother of navigating the narrow, sometimes busy streets in the center with a car, for those who don't mind a short walk through town. There is ample parking on the chateau grounds, best to leave the car there when going to the center, and take it only when visiting the Normandy Invasion Beaches a short distance away. The only sounds that punctuate this beautiful, quiet setting come from the birds, ducks, and coots that inhabit the small lake and moat.

A great place to stay. Very quiet and very well decorated. A real value. We stayed at another b&b in town for two nights and there was no comparison and we paid more money. We loved this place. I would suggest they do a quiche or egg casserole for breakfast. It would be a great honeymoon place.

Spent one night prior to taking the Normandy tour. Took the train to the Bayeux Train station and walked about ten minutes to the Chateau. Check in was easy, and the property was surprisingly beautiful, and the room was great....very clean and quiet. About a ten minute walk into town to pick up the tour or check out the downtown areas, restaurants, the Cathedral, etc. a great stay....

"Two fantastic nights"
From the moment we arrived and drove up the long driveway the experience kept getting better. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful in unloading our bags and getting us situated. The room was warm and inviting. The bathroom was very clean and modern. The tall windows afforded lots of light and great views of the large surrounding grassy grounds. The rooms were quiet. The reception room was most inviting. Dinner was most enjoyable and service was good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in the Bayeux area. Oh yes, the moat that lines the entry has wonderful swans and geese to entertain you as well.

"Gorgeous"
Stayed one night so we could explore the D-day beaches the next day. The place is gorgeous. It had a stream that ran through the property with swans and ducks playing. The room itself was a 2-story suite. The bed was comfy and the shower was great. Wish we stayed longer. The wi-fi was weak in the room but once just outside of your room or in the lobby it worked fine.

"Great hotel"
My husband and I travelled with our two grown daughters to Bayeux in mid December. We arrived at the hotel in the early evening so decided to have dinner there. We were pleasantly surprised. It was a scrumptious meal. Our daughters especially liked the french fries! Our room was in a separate bldg. from the main hotel since we had a room with a loft. It was very large and comfortable. When we checked out, the hotel very graciously watched our luggage while we drove to the American Cemetery and Omaha Beach. This area is about a 10-15 minute drive from the hotel. The grounds of the hotel are very beautiful and it was decorated nicely for Christmas.

Stayed for 1 night ... thought the mini-bar items were a little over priced. Accommodation, while spacious and extremely clean and comfortable was a little dated ... in particular the bathroom. A lovely Chateau/Hotel.........quiet setting on the outskirts of Bayeux. Your map in the reservation confirmation did not print out -- and we had a lot of difficulty locating the hotel. We arrived late and although we were two single women who booked separate rooms--we were each given a duplex studio apartment not located in the main chateau. We would have preferred a room in the main hotel. They had some electrical problems during our stay--the lights went out during dinner and candles were provided. During our stay we had no wifi or internet connection. However, this is a lovely family-run establishment.........highly recommended. Good food. The other guests were very friendly.

"Typical B&B Facility"
The hotel is typical of a family-run B&B, and not a true 4-star facility. There are many "rough edges" on maintenance, landscaping and general appearance of the rooms and grounds. We stayed in a "suite" in the former barn. The bed in on the ground level, with the bath and living room in loft above. The stairs are somewhat hazardous to negotiate at night. Overall, however, the staff sincerely tried to make us feel welcome and provide a good level of service.

"Lovely chateau outside of Bayeux"
We had a lovely stay at the Chateau Bellefontaine. It's a short drive (5 minutes or so, probably less if you know where you're going) from the center of Bayeux and the cathedral. It's extremely convenient for visiting Normandy in general. The grounds were quite pretty, and the staff was friendly. The room itself was pretty spacious and had a nice bathroom with a tub. The only complaints I have are that the whiskey in the downstairs bar was overpriced and there was no shower curtain - really first world problems.

"pleasant stay in Bayeux"
The locale was quite nice, being that the hotel is a former chateau with lovely grounds. I did not dine at the hotel, and really didn't require any help from staff while there for two nights. The basic room that we had was quite roomy for a European hotel room. Equipped with wi-fi, which worked well, but the session expired after 2 wall clock hours and had to be renewed with a new ID/pwd obtained at the front desk - minor gripe. It was basically a pleasant place to shower, change and rest up between visits to Bayeux town and taking a D-Day sites tour. Although we stayed during the transitional autumn season, when the weather is already cooling down quite a bit, the heating was not quite adequate, and the room and en suite bathroom never completely heated up. However, the thick down comforter was quite warm, once under the covers.

The location of the hotel was excellent and the grounds were a wonderful setting with a lake with swans and ducks. The town was only 10mins walk away which was fortunate as our room was not ready at the time stated on the booking form, it was not ready for another 3 hours, the lady on reception was not welcoming and did not offer us refreshments or even tell us directions to the town or where to get refreshments, she did however let us leave our luggage in a small cupboard behind reception which we struggled to get it in and then struggled to get it out. Her manner left a lot to be desired.

The overall property is lovely. Our duplex room was in a converted barn and was spacious bright and ultra modern. Definitely comfortable for long stays too. However, there was no A/C and the only window that opened was the door to the terrace. It could not be left open due to mosquitoes and flies entering the room. The room was stifling! Also, for what seemed to be fairly new construction there was a lot of mildew in the shower stall. One other item, for 152euros a night I didn't see the need to charge 12 euros for a cold breakfast. The place is lovely but needs to change a few things.

Picking a hotel off the listings on a web site is always a risky business but the reality of arriving at the the Bellefontaine after a tough search. There was a Festival going on. When we pulled into the drive and proceeded up to the Chateau, the overwelming beautiful parklike setting made the search all be worthwhile. The reception was gracious and helpful. Our room was clean, spacious and well furnished. The entire Chateau was beautifully restored and comfotable. Both dinner & the breakfast were fresh and tasty at reasonable prices. The public rooms were extremely comfortable and open. This was most likely the best property of our time in Europe (4 weeks- 6 cities) and I am pleased to reccomend it.

A very attractive hotel set in lovely grounds complete with a river and ducks, geese, and swans. It's also only a very short drive to the historic centre of Bayeux.
