Good location but inside was a big disappontment
The location of the hotel is very good. That's about all of the nice things I can say. My room was on the fourth floor, but the lift (which was tiny, from the 1930s, and required pulling open and shut multiple doors) only went to the third floor, so I had to carry luggage up a flight of stairs. The room hasn't been updated in decades. And the bathroom, while decent, had towels that appeared dirty. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that I would never stay here again. And would not recommend this to anyone until the hotel went through major renovations.

Just ok
Stuffy hotel.......nice area but this place needs an overhaul Tiny tiny room, and scruffy The breakfast was fine. Nothing special Also, it is strange that you leave the key at the desk Staff was helpful Would have been uncomfortable staying more than one night

Great little place for the price!
While the building is older, so it comes with what you'd expect (faded or rippled wallpaper in the corners), it has a quaint charm. You can't beat the location (central London, close to everything), and I slept soundly, which was all I really wanted.

Check hotel website
I booked through and ended up paying $45 more a night for a single than the advertised price for a single on the hotels website. When I checked in, the person at the desk didn't have the reservation for the second night but told me that he had a room and would give it to me for the "same price" as the reservation I had.

Reflects "tired" Britain
I love the staff at this hotel, but like a lot of older hotels in Great Britain, the Diplomat is a bit run down. It's like an elderly aunt's home in a lot of ways. Still, the staff is wonderful, and they do their very best. I've never been unhappy with a stay at the Diplomat, and the value for money is relatively fair, but it could stand a good renovation throughout.
