"Great Location with charming local Restaurants. ,"
This is a charming old world style Hotel with very clean rooms and beautiful furniture. The beds are very comfortable and after a long day of sight seeing you can come back and enjoy a nightcap at the Bar. It has been run by the same Family since 1967 who are very friendly and helpful for all your needs. They have a breakfast room and have a nice selection […] in the morning. Rooms are air conditioned and there is a lift. We enjoyed our stay and plan to come back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kind helpful staff/great location"
On our first day in Venice, my companion fell and broke her leg at a nearby museum. The hotel staff was so kind and helpful--especially Mr. Davide. So, this charming boutique hotel is more than just conveniently located near San Marcos; it is staffed by wonderful people.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hotel Fontana Dear Madam, thank you very much for your positive comment. I very well remember what has happened to your companion, very sad, and I hope she's well now. Hotel Fontana Staff and me (Diego, not Davide) really appreciate you words.

"Friendly hotel in great location"
Family owned hotel with the owner working the desk during the days. Very friendly and helpful. He made some excellent restaurant recommendations. The location is excellent. 2 minute walk to St. Marc's square and only a 2 block walk from the water bus.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location, helpful staff spoke good English, nice breakfast, better than average sized shower. Not far from vaporetto stop. Free wi-fi in bar area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"At home in Venice"
I spent a week at the Casa Fontana and was sad to leave. The best thing about the place is the location - just a couple hundred yards from Piazza San Marco on one side and the San Zaccaria vaporetto stops on the other, yet in the more serene Castello neighborhood, which is mostly free from the tourist mobs and has a real Venetian feel. There's a great […] little bar (Becaro Risorto) right next door and an excellent coffee shop across the street, both of which I made sure to visit every day. The hotel is family-owned and operated and the staff could not be more friendly. My room was simple, quiet, and comfortable, with a nice view of the white facade of San Zaccaria in the morning sun. Breakfast was simple but more than adequate. Wi-fi is available only in the bar area. In many ways, I felt more like I was staying with a favorite aunt than staying at a hotel. I hope to get back to Venice soon, and if I do, I will be back at Casa Fontana. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Friendly hotel, close to San Marco"
We stayed at Casa Fontana for three nights. It's a small, unpretentious place that perfectly fitted our needs. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had no complaints at all. The location is superb - it's about three minutes walk from San Marco, but still feels a comfortable distance from the tourist hordes. It's also very convenient for the Zattare […] traghetto stop. Our room overlooked a small square, with some pizzerias and bars, but we didn't get any noise during the night. I would definitely recommend the hotel, and we would be happy to stay there next time we're in Venice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great location so close to San Marco square. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff. I had a problem with the Air Con which was resolved immediately. "Old hotel but clean and great location"
The hotel is old but it is clean and the location is great. Staff are friendly. My mum and dad loved the hotel as they felt it had character, I thought it was old, but it was clean, staff were lovely and location awesome. Would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly, family-run hotel. Very quiet central location, despite being opposite three restaurants and small bar, less than five minute walk to St Mark's Square. Easy to get to from vaporetta stops. Our room had a small balcony but it was too cold in March to sit out there. Small room, but comfortable for two people. Comfortable bed (twins pushed together), […] clean room. Sky TV had to be paid for if required. WiFi only available downstairs in small bar area. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"NICE HOTEL IN CENTER OF VENICE"
PERFECT PLACE TO EXPLORE VENICE ON A WEEKEND BREAKGenuine Expedia guest review
Had a great experience at this hotel, the staff were wonderful! We got in late, there was some where there to greet us and even personally showed us to the nearest place for dinner. Similarly when we had to leave early the staff made sure there was a small breakfast ready. Definitely recommend this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Goed hotel op prima locatie"
Betaalbaar goed hotel op een prima locatie vlak achter Marco Poloplein. Zeer behulpzaam vriendelijk personeel. Schone kamer. Met een uitstekend restaurant voor de deur.. Enige minpuntje: de nachtportier stond de hele nacht vóór het hotel en maakte soms een nogal luidruchtig praatje met voorbijgangers.Genuine Expedia guest review

"BEST, CONVENIENT LOCATION"
10/10/14 SEAFARER404 Charleston, South Carolina
My family spent four days at the Hotel Fontana in the middle of September. An incredibly convenient location - quick and scenic walk to St. Mark's Square or to the Rialto Bridge, as well as other sights. But the best feature is the easy access from the St Zaccariah vaporetta stop; very important for arrival and departure. Only about a block or so from Grand Canal, and not hard to locate. Small, family-run, intimate atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful front desk with good information about transportation, timing, restaurants. The hotel is older, but has modern features - elevator a real plus. Rooms are clean and nicely (but not elaborately) furnished; bathrooms are up-to-date. Breakfast is mostly rolls and crossisants; good coffee and beverage selections. The hotel is not on the canal, but at a fairly busy junction of streets - alleys, with several eating, bar establishments, and shopping practically out the front door. Venice is overly crowded much of the time. But the Fontana offers a place to easily walk back to rest or refresh. Highly recommended.
"A nice welcome"

Hotel Fontana is a five minute walk from Piazza San Marco. A map will definitely help locate it the first time round. The reception staff is courteous and accommodating. Our room was spacious, clean and well decorated. The continental breakfast provided consisted of coffee, juice, croissants, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, pastries, cereals, etc. all fresh and inviting. It can be reached on foot from the Santa Lucia train terminal (40 min walk) and if large bulky suitcases are involved, the vaporetto or a water taxi might be better alternatives. Across the street from the hotel the Trattoria “da Roberto” offers great food at reasonable prices. The hotel is conveniently located near the canal and the vaporetti stations ready to taxi you along the Venice’s Canale della Giudecca (the Grand Canal).
"Excellent location near St. Mark's Square, great stay"

We stayed here for 3 nights. We enjoyed our stay very much. The room and bathroom were very clean. The room was air conditioned which was a necessity as it was very hot in August. It is a family owned hotel and the reception staff (most were family members) were very helpful and welcoming. Hotel only is a few stories up but they had a newer elevator to helps you bring your luggage up stairs. Although there is no WIFI in the rooms (it is in the lounge area), we were able to access WIFI in our first floor room as the signal was strong which was a nice bonus. There were several restaurants, shops and a bar right outside the hotel. The vaporetto (water bus station) was right near by. Stay includes continental breakfast and that was good as it included some basic cold cereals, croissants (an Italian breakfast staple), cheeses, breads and cold cuts and fruit, hard boiled eggs and a coffee machine that made wonder espresso coffee, cappuccino, tea, etc. If we ever return to Venice, we would stay here again.

This little hotel was perfect for my first trip to Venice. Easy to find in a city of small alleys and tons of tourists. The staff were very helpful. The room was clean, beds comfortable and bathroom adequate. The breakfast was more than adequate to get through the morning - cold cereal, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, fruit and bread/cheese. Of course, the coffee was excellent. Some of the fixtures might be dated but they fit in perfectly with my vision of Venice. Be aware, the doors may stick due to the humidity. I loved it and will plan to go back.
"Great location & super pleasant stay!"

We just spent two nights in this very clean and well located hotel. The owners - a warm family- made us feel so welcomed! It is a short walk from the vaporetto, St. Mark's square, and streets of shopping and dining. Bed was great - we felt well rested after long walks in the city of Love!
"Excellent place to stay, superb location"

Stayed here in August for 4 nights, on arrival the guy at reception told us we had been upgraded to a room with a terrace, this was a welcome surprise and it turned out to be very nice. The hotel is family run, it is a fair size for a back street hotel with a nice bar and large breakfast room. Overall the hotel is very well maintained and very clean, even the lift is spotless and everything in good working order. There is a slightly dated feel about some of the fixtures and fittings but this goes well with the rest of Venice, the light fittings in the stairwells for example, in a hotel anywhere else these coloured glass lights would seem very 70's, but for Venice they blend in with the rest of the place, you just have to see everything in the right context. The hotel does not have a restaurant, this is not surprising given that there are at least a dozen eateries within 60 seconds walk from the front door. The bar on the ground floor is bright and airy with air conditioning, the coffee is very nice and the Bellini is spot on. The room has shutters as well as curtains, this is useful for keeping the morning sun out, otherwise it heats up very quickly inside. The air conditioning was very good, our room had a self contained unit with remote control, it worked very well and had the room nice and fresh feeling in no time. The only suggestion we had was to add a fridge, this would have been ideal in the August heat, cold drinks taken back to the room didn't stay cold for too long! The TV had a Sky HD box, although the channels are all Italian, some channels allow you to change the audio to English, this meant we had lots of Simpsons and Big Bang Theory to keep us entertained in the evening. Breakfast was sort of continental style, there were breads with cheese and cured hams, cereal and yoghurt and fruit. There was a lack of toast! They did have croissants but the choice was apricot or chocolate, nothing savoury or plain, this was a disappointment. The family who run the hotel couldn't have been friendlier, they really made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The location of this hotel is perfect, 2 minutes from the front promenade, waterbus and other local amenities, the local shop has all the snacks and drinks you will need on your stay, bars and restaurants all around, best of all it's only a few minutes walk to San Marco and all the delights this area has to offer. If we ever decide to go back to Venice we will definitely stay here again.
"Excellent Hotel In An Excellent Location......"
09/01/14 Brian S Birmingham, England, United Kingdom
5 minutes from the Water Taxi and Vaporetto drop off and 7 mins from St Marks Square. Very convenient location. Small, family run hotel. Pleasant, helpful Staff. Large clean room. Breakfast, in our opinion, was good. Help yourself Continental Buffet which meant we never went out feeling hungry. Plenty of restaurants on the doorstep. Plenty of shops on the way to St Marks Square. Doesn't look much from the frontage but we really liked it. We want to come back to Venice and when we do we would have no hesitation in staying at the Hotel Fontana again.
"Good hotel, breakfast is a joke"
08/27/14 CoffeeFan2014 Paris, France
The hotel is ideally located and the street noise is bearable with ear plugs. Very old-fashioned rooms and WIFI is not usable in many rooms. Almost no foreign channels, although it says satellite TV. The staff is nice and rooms are very clean. Prices are good for this location and Venice. Breakfast is a big joke to be honest. Coffee is instant coffee from an old machine (although you can find good coffee for 1€ just next to the hotel), dry cheap bread, the only cheese is the individually processed one that you use for Burgers normally, cheap salami, etc. It is really a letdown and I only took a glass of water in the morning. Otherwise, a good place in Venice.
"Nice family owned personal touch. Great location"

The location is perfect. Away from the really busy areas but in an area close to all main attractions and with ample services n shops right next door. This is a family owned hotel and it shows. Got a nice personal touch to it all and older generations are always about greeting guests. The bedrooms and bathrooms are basic but adequate. Not a lot of room to move about with cases n luggage. Breakfast is also basic but very adequate. Nice little wine bar next door n heaps of restaurants to choose from. Definitely a good choice overall
"Great location and good value"

Found the hotel via Trivago and was very pleased with the choice. Having established which boat-taxi stop to get off, I was amazed at just how easy it was to find the hotel. Literally about 100 yards from the Grand Canal and just a few minutes walk to St Marks Square. The hotel is family run and they are very helpful. The room was more than adequate for our 2 night stay. Ok the bathroom was small but the room itself was fine. They offer free Wi-Fi in the lobby but I was lucky enough to still pick up a decent signal from my room on the first floor. There are numerous 'reasonably priced' eateries very close to the hotel.
