Great Location. Great staff that is very helpful. Nice hotel overall. The beds are not that comfortable. The bathrooms have a moldy smell. I heard that is normal in Venice at some points of the year.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel Fontana is a five minute walk from St Marks, Doges palace and the the water taxi pickup/dropoff. There are three restaurants within 20 yards of the hotel. There is a coffee shop right next to the hotel that was always packed with people. Shops and canals all around the area. Gabriel and Diego were both great helping to answer all of our questions. This is a charming old world style Hotel with very clean rooms and beautiful furniture. The beds are very comfortable and after a long day of sight seeing you can come back and enjoy a nightcap at the Bar. It has been run by the same Family since 1967 who are very friendly and helpful for all your needs. They have a breakfast room and have a nice selection […] in the morning. "Kind helpful staff/great location"
On our first day in Venice, my companion fell and broke her leg at a nearby museum. The hotel staff was so kind and helpful--especially Mr. Davide. So, this charming boutique hotel is more than just conveniently located near San Marcos; it is staffed by wonderful people.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Friendly hotel in great location"
Family owned hotel with the owner working the desk during the days. Very friendly and helpful. He made some excellent restaurant recommendations. The location is excellent. 2 minute walk to St. Marc's square and only a 2 block walk from the water bus.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location, helpful staff spoke good English, nice breakfast, better than average sized shower. Not far from vaporetto stop. Free wi-fi in bar area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"At home in Venice"
I spent a week at the Casa Fontana and was sad to leave. The best thing about the place is the location - just a couple hundred yards from Piazza San Marco on one side and the San Zaccaria vaporetto stops on the other, yet in the more serene Castello neighborhood, which is mostly free from the tourist mobs and has a real Venetian feel. There's a great […] little bar (Becaro Risorto) right next door and an excellent coffee shop across the street, both of which I made sure to visit every day. The hotel is family-owned and operated and the staff could not be more friendly. My room was simple, quiet, and comfortable, with a nice view of the white facade of San Zaccaria in the morning sun. Breakfast was simple but more than adequate. Wi-fi is available only in the bar area. In many ways, I felt more like I was staying with a favorite aunt than staying at a hotel. I hope to get back to Venice soon, and if I do, I will be back at Casa Fontana. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Friendly hotel, close to San Marco"
We stayed at Casa Fontana for three nights. It's a small, unpretentious place that perfectly fitted our needs. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had no complaints at all. The location is superb - it's about three minutes walk from San Marco, but still feels a comfortable distance from the tourist hordes. It's also very convenient for the Zattare […] traghetto stop. Our room overlooked a small square, with some pizzerias and bars, but we didn't get any noise during the night. I would definitely recommend the hotel, and we would be happy to stay there next time we're in Venice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great location so close to San Marco square. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff. I had a problem with the Air Con which was resolved immediately. "Old hotel but clean and great location"
The hotel is old but it is clean and the location is great. Staff are friendly. My mum and dad loved the hotel as they felt it had character, I thought it was old, but it was clean, staff were lovely and location awesome. Would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly, family-run hotel. Very quiet central location, despite being opposite three restaurants and small bar, less than five minute walk to St Mark's Square. Easy to get to from vaporetta stops. Our room had a small balcony but it was too cold in March to sit out there. Small room, but comfortable for two people. Comfortable bed (twins pushed together), […] clean room. Sky TV had to be paid for if required. WiFi only available downstairs in small bar area. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"NICE HOTEL IN CENTER OF VENICE"
PERFECT PLACE TO EXPLORE VENICE ON A WEEKEND BREAKGenuine Expedia guest review
Had a great experience at this hotel, the staff were wonderful! We got in late, there was some where there to greet us and even personally showed us to the nearest place for dinner. Similarly when we had to leave early the staff made sure there was a small breakfast ready. Definitely recommend this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review

Genuine Expedia guest review

"This hotel is highly recommended - a great experience!!"

Hi, I just wanted to send a big thank you to the Hotel Fontana, Venice. My two adult children and I arrived a few days after the New Year. This hotel is very accessible from the train station. You just get the regular ferry service and it is a two minute walk once you alight from the vessel. The staff are all lovely, and really welcome you. Breakfast is generous and I recommend this hotel to everyone who wants a clean, central and well-run hotel in Venice. Many thanks from Linda Kelly and children

We stayed here for 4 nights over New Year; I initially booked two rooms, a double and a twin, but when we arrived they had given us 2 singles and a double which suited our teenagers perfectly. It's a great spot; an easy walk from the water and St. Mark's Square; there's also a great restaurant (Roberto's) just across the street. Wifi was only available in the downstairs bar which caused lots of angst for the kids but didn't worry us at all. The bathrooms are nice but if you are very tall it may be a challenge to stand up in the bath/ shower as our ceiling was sloped as it followed the roofline. The breakfast was just OK; nothing special but there are so many places outside that are cheap and good we skipped it after the first day. It's family owned and they are very friendly, offering good advice regarding eateries and interesting places to visit. Would definitely return.
"Good Value for Venice"

Rooms: Spacious nice rooms with modern tv with Sky. Bathroom / Water: Bathrooms seem always small in Venice but it was clean with excellent hot water pressure. Staff: Really lovely helpful staff that speak excellent English. Cleanliness: Generally very good but some areas a little dusty. Hotel facilities: It’s small hotel but has a bar and good breakfast choice. Wifi: Wifi is only available down in the lobby. From the airport: By water taxi it’s so close to St Marks square. Easy to find. Summary: Great location, clean, friendly staff and good breakfast.
"Perfect location, friendly hotel"

The Hotel is max five minutes from San Zacharia boat stop. We got the water taxi from the airport for €15 each way. We found it the easiest way to get there. When you get off the boat the small street is right in front of you. It is also only about 5-10 minutes easy walk to St Marks Square. Once outside the hotel you need to buzz to get in. Nice to have a bit if extra security. The receptionist was friendly and full of advice, speaking good English. There was a lift to the floors so good access for everyone. A small bar which offers free wifi and nice coffees! The rooms although basic (no tea of coffee making facilities, limited tv channels) they were very clean and looked lovely. They have given it nice touches like clean, smart bedding and very clean. The bathroom was tiny, but still had everything we needed and was clean with shower gel and soap provided. The breakfast was a standard continental breakfast, nothing special but adequate. The location is the selling point it really is in the perfect place to see they whole of Venice. Although close to St Marks Square you can find cheaper restaurants. We did try one which was recommended by the hotel receptionist and it was amazing but not cheap. I would definitely recommend this hotel as it really is perfect for a city break. If you are on the first floor you might even be able to get wifi in the rooms as we were in the second floor and did at times get connection.
We recently visited Venice and stayed here. The location was excellent, the staff were very friendly and rooms were amazing value for money. I had proposed to my girlfriend in the afternoon and told the guy on reception after he'd asked us 'how our day was'. 5 minutes later a knock on the bedroom door and the receptionist greeted us with a small bottle of champagne and glasses free of charge. This was a really nice touch as he didn't have to do it whatsoever. I would definitely recommend Hotel Fontana if you are visiting Venice. Great all round!
"perfect place in Venice"

Stayed at the Hotel Fontana in late September. The location is perfect. Five minutes from St. Marks and the grand canal. About three minutes from the water taxi stop. Used the water taxi from the cruise ship area and to the airport. Easy and at a reasonable price. The hotel has lots of restaurants in the area and shopping all around. There is even a coffee shop right next to the hotel. It must have been good because it was always packed. Gabriel and Diego, the desk staff, were great help. They were always pleasant and helpful answering all our questions. The room was big and clean. Maybe a little dated, but it worked just fine. Breakfast was good. Room price was good for Venice. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Loved Venice and Hotel Fontana. Thanks.
"A wonderful, charming family run hotel"
11/26/14 Vanda R London, England, United Kingdom
Hotel Fontana is a cosy little hotel only 5 minute walk from San Marco square and even a shorter walk to the sea front. Its location is only one of the great features. It is run by a wonderful family, who make you feel like at home. The family and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable. The continental breakfast was adequate. The rates are reasonable. The location is perfect. Even though it is so close to the main tourist sites, it is tucked away in a nice quiet courtyard. I loved my stay in the hotel, especially the family feel. I will definitely be back there next time I will make trip to Venice. Vanda, London, UK
"All we'd hoped for"
11/23/14 Mary M Eugene, Oregon
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Fontana for three nights and found it very satisfactory. It is small and basic but totally adequate for our needs. We loved the family feeling. The location is great, very convenient to walk to San Marco, the Zacarias vaporetto stop, Rialto Bridge, with so many restaurants and shops along the way. The little side canals with gondolas keep you aware that you are truly in Venice. We stayed in Room #8, which is in the back of the hotel and looks out on the little courtyard. We did not get any noise from the busy street in the front of the hotel. Our room was small, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The owners are very helpful with sightseeing suggestions, directions, and restaurant recommendations. The breakfasts were quite adequate and tasty with a variety of choices including cured meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, and the most delicious chocolate filled croissants. Don't be put off by the push button coffee machine. There are several coffee choices and all were quite good. it would have been nice to have wifi in room but there was always space in the bar/lounge area to sit and use wifi. We will stay there again if we are fortunate enough to have another trip to Venice.

The hotel was located very centrally to all major sights and was very easy to find. The breakfast is a complete joke and the rooms are very basic. The douche in d single room# 15 where I stayed was broken, lighting was bad and d hotel is "way too family run" with grand-ma,pa's all d time staying in d "small lobby"...
"Great little family hotel - good location"
11/09/14 Jonathan C London, United Kingdom
We stayed three nights in this friendly little hotel. The family owners are all very helpful and speak good English (and it seems several other languages too). Location is good - near San Marco but not too near so it was not too saturated in tourists. Nearest vaparetto is San Zaccharia, also the name of the nearby church, well worth a visit. There were several local bars nearby and the little alleys and squares around are all very good. Most tourists seemed to be other Italians though we had a number of Americans in the hotel too. The owners gave us lots of useful advice about Venice and were very relaxed about the dreaded Acqua Alta - which occurred each morning of our stay. The plastic over-shoes which go up to the knees and can be bought everywhere dealt with the problem (price €8 if you're lucky, but €10 or more in most places). Our room was at the front so we got some street noise from the local bars - but very quiet after about 11pm. Rooms basic but very clean. The owner went to a huge amount of trouble to replace a flickering lightbulb in our bathroom which you would probably not have seen in a bigger place.
