It was wonderful, the room was beautiful, old European and very comfortable. Our balcony looked out over the streets and we could see the Grand canal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location; nice balcony on top floor"
Very small room; no elevator with narrow stairs. Tough to get luggage to room. But overall nice hotel and good breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location for great price"
Can't get closer to St Marco square for the price. A terrace the size of the room itself was also a bonusGenuine Expedia guest review
"Our first trip to Venice May 2014"
We had a fantastic short break to Venice but were very disappointed with our hotel. It was made up of various rooms in separate buildings around the alleyways by the main hotel reception. Our room was in a small building comprising of a concrete staircase to three rooms. It was dark and in need of re-decorating although I have to say the sheets and […] bathroom were clean. We had no hot water on our first morning and had to wait until later in the day for a shower! Best not to open your windows as on our first night we were plagued by mosquitos. We used the air conditioning on our second and third nights. Breakfast was served in a further building opposite and was very meagre. We were given one small croissant each and then had a choice of two cereals, yoghurts, small dry rolls and a selection of jams. However, there was as much fruit juice, coffee, tea or cappuccino as you wanted. I must say that although we were very disappointed with the hotel, we had a brilliant time in Venice as we only used our hotel as a base and spent all our days exploring the beautiful sights. "Not as advertised"
The hotel advertised a rooftop terrace, but there is no such thing. Only some rooms have a terrace, but we did not get one. Other than that it is a cute little hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Lux - A long climb to a great room"
Lovely hotel. Clean, generous room, good breakfast. Perhaps our fault, but we forgot to ask if they had a lift. It was a long haul dragging suitcases up three flights of very narrow, very steep and very long stairs.
Koselig lite hotell, med små, men romantiske rom. Ligger mitt i smørøyet og hyggelig og hjelpsom betjening.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hyvä sijainti kulahtaneella huonneella"
Hotelli? Pikemminkin hostelli. Erinomainen sijainti.
"Hotel LUX - steps from Piazza San Marco"
I enjoyed my stay at this cute, character filled hotel. I arrived early yet my room was ready and the staff were happy and accomodating. I was given the attic room, which I loved, but is definitely not the room for people who have trouble with stairs! The hotel is very central but quite small with no lift. It is not the place to stay if you have a lot […] of luggage or are unfit! The room was warm, comfortable and clean and for its location was very good value for money.
Små men vackra rum, hårda sängar.
"Not a great stay"

Faced with a mountain of stairs we hauled our bags up the very tight stairway to a tiny badly placed reception & not friendly staff. The tiny room had water stained ceiling, faulty shower, odd air conditioning & no view. If you open a window the a/c turns off. The breakfast room is tiny tiny tiny with a staff member watching intently what you are eating. No cup of tea facilities in the rooms. If I had a choice I'd sleep in a Gondola.

Avoid this hole, useless staff, terrible layout. Will not be missed when Venice sinks into the water. My room was up 5 flights of stairs, no iron, cramped room that had freezing air con that couldn't be turned off. Worst shower in Europe. You can do better than this.
"The worst place to stay - give it a miss"
09/01/14 Glen D Melbourne, Australia
We had to carry our luggage up 3 floors & down - dirty, smelly stairwell. NO free WiFi Stained bed covers, worn carpet & mouldy smell in room. Breakfast was another issue, enough seating for 10 guests, pathetic offering for breakfast, 2 cereals, hard bread rolls, yoghurt, watered down powdered drink. Tea / coffee. You were restricted in choice they dished out the food. The location may be good but this hotel is filthy and the rooms tiny. We saw several more appealing options in this vicinity than this run down place, it was really appalling ! Customer service is basically non existent.

We were there for a night. We were put in a different building in than the main address which was not very adequately maintained although it was clean. In the morning only a few people got hot water. When we told them the reply was that the boiler is very small so cannot handle a lot of people at the same time. Also the breakfast was in a third location and staff not very polite. ALso the wifi is paid.
"The worst place we have ever stayed - this is not a " Hotel""
08/11/14 rsuyker Auckland Region, New Zealand
Set over 3 separate bulidings we had to carry our luggage up 48 steps - dirty stairwell. Bathroom - cracked mouldy tiles, broken shower rose. Stained bed covers, carpet. Descending the stairs to get out was in the dark ! Breakfast was in yet another building, enough seating for 10 guests, pathetic offering for breakfast, 2 cereals, hard bread rolls, youhurt, watered down powdered drink. Tea / coffee. We don't mind small rooms, but there is no excuse for a dirty one. While the location may be very good there are hundreds of more apealing options than this run down place. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, only stayed 1, it really was appalling !

The hotel is very worn and basic by American standards with a very narrow stairway and merely adequate air condition. However, the hotel is clean and comfortable with an amazing location (1 block from St. Marks square). A good option for someone that wants to have the location without paying $600/night.
"Never stay at Hotel Lux"
08/06/14 samuelgf2014 Toronto, Canada
Worst experience ever at a hotel. Staff was rude. The room hadn't been cleaned properly and the comforter was visibly dirty. Then my wife actually saw a RAT INSIDE THE HOTEL. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS HOTEL.

Rooms were very small. Bathroom had cracked and broken tiles, toilet seat was broken. Water ran all over bathroom floor when showering. Hair dryer didn't work. Breakfast room didn't fit very many people at any time. No lift for luggage and difficult to carry up narrow stairs.
"Would not recommend"
08/03/14 Dixon62 Timaru, New Zealand
This was the worst accommodation we had in our 3 week trip. The rooms were dark, tiny, a lot of mould on the bathroom ceiling. The bed mattress had roll together and hard. We asked for a change of mattress or a bigger room, but neither were addressed. The breakfast was dismal, along with the small dining room which fitted 12 at the best. If it was full you were told to come back. No fruit, cereal (if you are a cereal eater), croissant, tea or coffee. Other people at breakfast all had compliants which were not addressed, from broken showers/ toilets. The safe didnt work, and wasnt fixed. The stairs narrow and steep for cases and no one to help. The dirty alley when you found it said it all. They only good point was the location which was excellent

I stayed at the Hotel Lux in Venice last August. I should have submitted this review back then. Nonetheless, here it is: The Hotel Lux in Venice was the worst facility I have ever stayed in. Lux should not be a part of the name of this so-called hotel because it denotes a hint of luxury. It's not even close. Here are most of the reasons I can remember for panning this facility: 1. The hotel, or hovel, staff were not bad. This critique is about the deplorable accommodations. 2. The room was narrow and rectangular and I could touch 2 of the walls at once by stretching out my arms. 3. The water in the shower stall was above my ankles each time I showered because the drain was clogged. 4. The toilet, sink, and shower were arranged in such a way that I had to step around or over the toilet to get to the shower. 5. The lighting was deplorable. Maybe there was a sale on 15-watt bulbs in Venice just before I got there. 6. The hotel's registration counter was at the top of a flight of stairs that led to a counter that was mere inches from the top of the stairs. I had a backpack and one luggage item that I had to put into a small side room because there was no place for either of them to fit as I signed in. In this side room, there were chairs and a couple of small tables that did not comfortably or allow people and luggage to fit in at the same time, let alone sit down while waiting. 7. In order to enter my room, which was down an alley and into a street, I had to use a key (of course) and go up a flight of stairs. Fine. To get out, however, the door could not be opened by a handle or a knob. In order to get out, I had to feel around under the door latch for a metal button that un-clicked the door. I couldn't see the latch and it usually took me, and other residents standing there with me, at least 5 minutes to get out each time we wanted to leave. I reported it to the handyman who works for the hotel, but it was never fixed while I was there. 8. I should have read the Trip Advisor reviews about this place before I booked it. The comments that I made about this hotel are reflected in the comments other visitors to that facility have made. 9. The continental breakfast was set up in a room across the alleyway by the front door of the building I stayed in. The room was clean and the breakfast was not bad. 10. I would not stay in this hotel again even if it were offered to me for free.
