Hotel Castel Fragsburg - Merano

they shifted our room to another hotel after our first night. We booked on hotels.com, then called them to tell them we'd be in for a late check in. They then told us they had no availability. They offered us one night and a hotel change for the next two nights. Emilia was a very clean hotel, but dated. Our room was on the small side, with a small bathroom, (legs under the sink if you sit on the toilet). The hotel they moved us to was great. They are under the same management, and it had more room, a pool, a better breakfast, and an the best hotel to ski lift shuttle I've ever seen. It was named Hotel Roteisi, or something similar. The shuttle driver ran every day from morning till 18:45. The longest we had to wait was 5 minutes, travel time to the area we skied was less than that, and typically it was just the two of us in the van. I'm sure Emilia had similar services, but I wouldn't know as they accepted our booking and then moved us to a nicer place.

Usually when we are looking at stars in hotels they mean luxuries. For us, Hotel Adler is filled with many luxuries. It’s a family run hotel (since the turn of the century) in northern Italy (near to Austria), whether you stay for a day or longer its secluded and the staff will help to get the most out of your stay. After our stay there we had reservations to Cortina d’Ampezzo , had I known how good it was staying at hotel Adler I would’ve just made it our base and driven to Cortina or continue to enjoy all the Dolomites have to offer. It is a very extensive area between Bolzano and the whole mountain range that you could miss without a proper guidance. As for skiing, there is plenty and the county has ski busses that stop right at the hotel’s front. I say if you are a traveler on a budget in search for an Austrian cottage hotel in Italy’s northern scenery look no further.

The hotel was very clean and up to date. The rooms are larger and our room had a huge balcony with a view of the old town and the surrounding mountains. The lobby of the hotel and hotel bar were also very nice with a neat indoor koi fish pond. The location in the old part of the town was perfect too and it was a quick walk to see the sights and to the restaurants.

Really enjoyed our stay here. I took my parents who had never been to Europe before (they are Korean-American), and I've seriously never encountered a more pleasant and helpful staff in my travels abroad. We had only stayed one night/day on our way through Italy and wished that it had been a few more days. It is true, the hotel is in the country, but the view and atmosphere is worth the side trip. (Think 360 degree mountains and orchards). We had no problems catching a taxi from the train station in Bolzano (10 min drive), and were able to visit surrounding museums and restaurants. The town of Setterquence has a few restaurants that are a 10 minute walk away, or you can rent mountain bikes from the hotel. The lounge/spa area on the roof was great. Having a car would have been nice, but not having one did not make our stay any less comfortable. The rooms are spacious, clean, new and quiet.
