Mattress was a little too hard for me, but everything else was great. We got back from our event late Sunday morning and the staff were cleaning up the breakfast buffet- the coffee was all gone. The waitress kindly offered to make a fresh pot. The coffee is great. Very pleasant stay.

Hotel was really noisy with kids above us that we could hear jumping for hours followed by young teenage girls that were in the hallways yelling until all hours of the night. The hotel management can't really control this, but ti proved that the doors were not well sealed to hallway noises and the floors reminded me of a Super 8. I asked for a handicapped room and did not have one when I arrived, but they changed it and got me one, with little quibbling, and they were very kind about it. When I got to the room, there were no hand towels or any of the shampoo and soap that is usually in rooms. I know it should have been there, as there was a little rack for it. I went downstairs […] to the desk and told them about it and was given shampoo and whatever else I needed with no problem, and a very heartfelt apology. It is a gorgeous hotel, and when you have problems walking, the beds they have there, that can be adjusted to be harder or softer are a dream come true. This is by far the best hotel I have stayed in at Ames, and since I have a child at Iowa State, I have stayed in a LOT of hotels there. I will never stay in another hotel but this one. The four was only because the stuff was missing, and I have a feeling it was just an oversight. They were more then kind about getting new stuff to me, and I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Read more

I stayed four nights, and the room and beds were comfortable and clean. Internet access was appreciated. I only had two minor annoyances - on the first night I noticed the shower drain wasn't draining very quickly, so I mentioned it to the front desk and they assured me they would have maintenance look at it. It never got looked at. The second thing […] is I had the "Do not disturb" sign on the door one morning so I could sleep in a little, but I left the room before noon and removed the sign then. The rooms had paper thin walls, so noise was a problem. The towels seemed like they were used a thousand times - thin and dingy. The bed was awful to sleep on. We have stayed at Hilton Garden Inns before and they were great. This was terrible!

While room was clean the A/C was extremely noisy, no bathroom fan and temperature control was difficult, if not impossible. The mattresses were lumpy and soft. We would not recommend this hotel when for the price, it's not worth it. Plus, all the all the corrections could be easily made.

Purchased a room with two queen beds and a breakfast buffet. Water was pooled all over bathroom floor when we arrived and floor was dirty. The mattresses were "adjustable" and either had a sinkhole in the middle of the bed, or else a big bubble rising up--unsleepable. The pillows were also like bubbles--did not "crush" at all--no sleep for us. The next […] morning, we were told we had to pay for the breakfast buffet even though it was to have come with the price of the room. The buffet was only starches and sweets plus cottage cheese, overripe fruit, and the only hot item was oatmeal--for the price of almost 6 dollars apiece. Outrageous. When we told the waitress we were to get the buffet free, it took another 20 minutes to sort out the mess and included a trip back to our room to get our original receipt for the room. The hotel realized their error, but did not apologize and due to their mistake, we ended up 10 minutes late for our appointment. Although I'd booked our room over a month in advance, we were given a room at the back of the hotel right next to the main highway, and, where the delivery trucks started making their deliveries at about 4 am. (No sleep) We were surprised that the Hilton was situated between a pizza-bowling establishment and a strip mall. Read more

The hotel location is relatively close to the ISU campus. We stayed for graduation, which is one of the top 5 busiest days of the year for the hotel. They only have 2 computers to check people in, and had one experienced and one new person checking people in. The manager was walking around offering bottled water and coffee to the 20+ people in line, […] rather than helping the new person check people in. I don't understand why training someone on one of the busiest days of the year was a priority, rather than bringing an experienced person in from another hotel for the day. The beds are the variable firmness type, and no one staying in the room was comfortable after sleeping on them, even after adjusting them several times. Overall, the hotel experience was ok. It was cleaner than other hotels that I have stayed at in Ames, but if you need fast service, I recommend staying somewhere else. Read more

The highway is under going a renovation starting at 6 a.m. It was quite noisy to wake up to. Overall this is a very nice place to stay for the money, and the staff is extremely pleasant. Would recommend asking for a room toward the front of the hotel, and not one next to the highway.

The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We stayed here for a girl's night out, but once we got to the hotel, turned it into a girl's night in. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The shower had good water pressure and the bathroom was very clean. My only two complaints would be the bed was very firm and I was not aware that […] it could be adjusted and there was no continental breakfast included with the rate. We find the Hilton Garden a very comfortable stay and easy access from the interstate. The rooms are clean and up to date in decor. There is a nice workout facility and indoor pool and jacuzzi. These are important items when visiting during the winter months!

For the most part this hotel was accomodating for our trip. We were going to a tournament at the Ames Ice Arena. This hotel was a perfect location for that. The only problem that I had was with the temperature of the room. Either the heater was blowing hot air and the room was roasting or if you turned the heat down a degree then it started blowing […] super cold air and you'd be freezing in a matter of minutes. Ended up shutting the thing off and only turning the heat on for a few minutes at a time. One of the elevators was broken for a short time. My nephew runs for the University of Missouri Columbia and I have been to Ames for track meets several times. The Hilton Garden Inn is always the choice for my stay in Ames. Our daughter's team traveled to Ames, IA for a basketball tournament. The staff was very well organized in laying down the rules for the girls regarding running in the halls, food, etc. There were no issues the entire weekend - it was great. Most of the staff was very out-going and helpful, except for the chef who patroled the pool area and hallways […] enforcing every rule on parents and players alike. Additionally, I had booked on-line and the hotel was having issues with breakfast purchased on-line. But they stood behind it and comped my meals anyway - despite being able to see those records on-line. This area was close enough to campus and also convenient for highway access. Apparently the football team stays at the HGI for football games which could ruin your stay; I say this as there were 2 motor coaches in the parking lot with 2 State Patrol cars with them. We were supposed to check in at 3pm - we were told none of the rooms were available until 4:45.... Since it was a 6pm game - I'm assuming that they didn't want any […] "guests" in the hotel until the team left. Regardless - the only thing we were offered was "the use of the lobby tv area, the public restrooms, and the pool (which we should have been using anyway...). The hotel is ok - but the management is terrible when it comes to customer service. My advice - look elsewhere - if you have to stay there you'll probably be ok - but don't go there on game days..... This hotel is only 2 years old so condition is excellent. Close to Iowa State University campus. We did request a non-smoking room and upon our arrival were given a smoking room (smelled of stale cigarette smoke). Staff immediately found a new room for us. The hotel was very comfortable especially with the temporpedic beds. It was minutes from Iowa State and most of Ames. The only negative was that they made you pay $11 for breakfast if you wanted anything hot. They did offer pastries and other breads for $3, but still, kind of a rip off.

Convenient half way point to pick up our grandchildren. We enjoyed the hotel pool and bowling alley next door. Food was close by. Area seemed new and clean. Room was spacious and clean. Warm cookies were a hit with the kids. Made to order breakfast was delicious. Yes I would stay there again.

We were in town for college move-in day, and our room suited us fine after all the hard labor of moving. The room was fresh, nothing out of place, and was all we could ask for during our two night stay. The bonus was that a nation wide Buick show was in town, and it entertained us looking at classic iron all weekend.

The "special" bed wasn't comfortable no matter where you put the select dial. The air conditioner unit was loud and woke us up most every time it came on. The room was very clean and had nice amenities. The hotel personnel were personable. We did find part of a wire twisty in one of our breakfast omelets and did show it to the chef who apologized.
