Although Mactan Island houses Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) and is connected to Cebu City by a bridge, the island may be most famous as the site where Ferdinand Magellan died fighting Lapu-Lapu. "Great Value, Peace and Quiet, Friendly Staff"
I highly recommend this beautiful place hidden away in Cordova on Mactan Island, Cebu. Great value and surprisingly pleasant staff. Beautiful gardens and enough activities to keep up as busy as we want to be for 4 days. Enjoyed the meals. Rooms are clean and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very nice resort and staff are super friendly and helpful. Nice getaway from busy Cebu, but yet accessible. relaxing and tropical feel and nice clean swimming pool. Good place for families or couples. Great food and especially buffet..also good sandwiches and fries. Owner always on top of everything and good service at resonable price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A low budget resort"
The resort was not what I expected. I'm told our room was among their best, yet it was a 2.5 out of 10 at best. The food was limited, but very good. The one thing that upset me during our stay is without prior notice they closed the pool from 1:30pm - 7:00pm because they booked a poolside wedding ceremony with left all of the hotel guests nothing to […] occupy their time on a very hot day. NOT GOOD when you plan a poolside tropical vacation. I will not book a stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
What a plesant surprise to find this beautiful friendly resort in Cebu. My wife and I had been disappointed in the past locations we had stayed at, but not this time. The staff is so friendly and accomodating. My flight arrived at the Cebu airport, after a long night in the Manila airport, and as promised there was a car waiting for me and upon arrival […] at the resort, after many hours of no sleep, the staff met me with a beverage and immediatly got a room ready, even though check in wasn't for serveral hours. Was able to have a delicious complimentary breakfast before going to our lovely, clean and comfortable room. The swimming pool and spa are a delight, all of the staff friendly and accomodating. "Delightful and different oasis. Great value!"
Alta is a place with a difference and character. It's a delightful oasis just right for relaxing. Laid out almost like a village with wooden houses in a verdant tropical forest surroundings -so refreshing after cement and gloss ghettos. The focal point is the pool area with all the important amenities and air-conditioned restaurant. There's plenty to […] do if you want it, Check out the rafting! It's odd that some reviewers complain there is no beach when Alta had never claimed one! However, they offer a free shuttle to the beach and shopping mall. Taxis are a good alternative and are cheap, ($7 to the airport#. Book at least an hour ahead. The rooms are tastefully decorated, with comfortable big beds, TV and Internet, etc. Sometimes the internet is slow #low-end 3G), but that's not Alta's fault, since the telcos don't invest in modern infrastructure anywhere. The service is excellent with a genuinesmile and desire to be attentive. What sets Alta apart is that it is family-owned and operated. Larry, the American owner makes the effort to meet every guest and is always anxious to know how he and his staff he can make your stay enjoyable. In summary, Alta is ideal for couples seeking seclusion, families with young children and also business people. But if you want high energy days and nights, this is not for you. Great service and superb value for money! Extra points for eco-friendliness. I strongly recommend it, which is why I have stayed here about 6 or 7 times now. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort As a professor who teaches management and service, Kevin knows what he is talking about. Alta appreciates that he took the time to enlightening future guest about the many benefits of Alta Cebu Resort. His remarks about the odd nature of some reviews reminds me of a recent article in the Wall Street Journal (April 4, 2012). The author points out that reviews can be unreliable, especially when coming from guests’ whose main concern is getting the best price. It’s commonly acknowledged in the industry, that offering better value often attracts guests who are, all too often, much more unrealistic and difficult to please as compared to those who pay much higher prices elsewhere. Given the problems with subjective opinions, hotels and resorts can get wildly different ratings, depending on where you look. For example, one Dallas Hotel was ranked 11th by one rating agency and 368th by another. One of the most famous travel Guide legends from the 1960’s has this to say of online reviews: “It's a vast buzz of confusion." Because Hotel rankings can vary wildly across websites, the most useful way to use reviews, according to the article, is to ask yourself “Is the hotel affordable for your budget and are there both positive and negative reviews.” Thanks to this guest (Kevin) for the very thoughtful review and his helpful hints on how we can be even better!
"Alta is too far from everything"
This resort would be a great place for honeymooners. I'ts too far from everything. I was with sister, brother and niece. There's a restaurant on the property but we didn't try it for dinner. The menu looked good but the room has no ambiance. We tried breakfast the next day which was ok. We asked front desk person about other places to dine and she suggested […] restaurants to eat at and malls to check out, about 20-30 minutes away but did not mention the traffic and half paved/not paved roads that turn out to be over an hour ride. The pool is nice. Over all the place is a little paradise if you have no plans to leave the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Alta is the closest resort to Cebu City. There are many restaurants in Cebu City 20 to 30 minutes drive from Alta. The roads near Alta are all paved and no worse than roads in Cebu City. This guest neglected to mention that there is plenty to do nearby and at Alta and at least 7 forms of transport, including motorcycle and car rental from Alta. Within 1 KM of Alta resort there are 5 restaurants, a beach and one restaurant which is 5 minutes walking distance. Guest suggests he was bored at Alta, when in fact there is much to do: nearby tourist spots (guitar factory, the local aquarium, malls and street markets, etc.). Alta has more to do than most resorts, including: rafting to nearby islands from Alta Bay, all terrain vehicle course, wall climbing, free DVD’s for kids and adults, babysitting, Videoke / Wii room, classes in cooking, jewelry making and ESL English, local village tours, echo and volunteering activities, as well as many other games, indoor and outdoor activities and sports, etc. Most activities at Alta are free. Rooms have all the amenities of a good 4 star resort. For $7 more, this guest could have upgraded to a much nicer room. He also forgot to mention that Alta offers much better value than any other resort in our class. True, we are great for honeymooners, but we are also popular with singles, students, scuba divers, families and groups, as can be seen by the many positive reviews online. I am wondering why he did not speak with our butleress about his concerns; she is nearly always available to give good advice on what to do near Alta. I (Larry, the owner) am also happy to offer advice and help in getting issues solved.
"Not a beach resort"
Staff were extremely freindly and hardworking. The resort is to far from the city and does not have private beach. You have tO pay another hotel tO use their facility. The pool timing and and size was great. The bedding was cheap material. The bed itself was cheap stuff. Choose this hotel if you want a bargain. I am staying in Cebu city next time. The […] good thing about the resort is the staff and that's it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Glad to hear this guest felt he received excellent service. In fact, a prominent congressman recently visited Alta Cebu and told our GM that our service is better than some 5 star resorts in Cebu. Most guests say our beds are some of the most comfortable of any resort. In fact, we bought the most expensive beds available in Cebu. Alta never promotes itself as a beach resort. We do take guests to the beach and mall by Alta shuttle bus; no other 3 or 4 star Mactan/Cebu resorts offer free shuttle. The beach is about 10 minutes from Alta. The entrance fee is about $1 UDS. We are the closest resort to Cebu city (about 30 minutes) and closer to the biggest Cebu shopping mall and other attractions than some city hotels. Thanks for mentioning that Alta offers good value; it’s true, our room rates are cheaper than other resorts in our class. But saying that staff and affordable rooms are the only good things about Alta is far from the truth. Our restaurant is more affordable and we offer many more free amenities and services than other resorts (for example, no other comparable resort has an air conditioned restaurant, to my knowledge). We also thank him for his kind comments about staff and pool.
It was a great week! The pool was wonderful and we really enjoyed our stay here. The owner is very involved with the property and made sure that if there was any issue, it was addressed right away. I would highly recommend this resort for anyone wanting a romantic get away.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Alta It is magnificent resort"
It is magnificent resort it is small in size but big in beauty and space that gives this place of tranquillity of mind in follow that this wonderful design of place making it part of the nature and the needs of people who are looking for a space to calm.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort This guest stayed 3 weeks, so he had plenty of time to find fault – then went home and awarded us a “magnificent “rating. He is not the only first one to be so impressed. I was a bit surprised that he only gave us a 3 of 5 stars, when he told me he could not be more pleased and called us “magnificent”. For me a 3 means he was reasonably unhappy. Maybe he got confused on how the rating numbers work. So that people can know what to expect it is important for me to tell potential guests (here in this response) that we’re not opulent, and never claim to be. Some guest who do not understand what we are offering can be disappointed, because they do not understand what a boutique resort stands for. Non-boutique, traditional resort or hotel (one guest described them as sterilized and predictable) are places where guests pretty much know exactly what to expect-cookie cutter predictability and sameness. Some people don’t like surprises -even if they are positive surprises for most. I try to speak with every guest personally to be sure that we meet their expectations. The vast majority of our guests are also very satisfied with what we offer for the price we charge. Unfortunately, happy guests are a lot less likely to write reviews than unreasonable and complaining types. This guest’s only beef, apparently, was that we are smaller than the enormous resorts in his home town of Dubai. By Cebu standards, our resort is as large, in some cases even larger than some 5 stars. At 3 hectares (7.5 acres) we are not only one of the larger resorts, but Alta Cebu is offers “the best gardens in Cebu” according to a respected industry insider.
"Best deal in Cebu with some reservations"
This is a very interesting place. A 3.5 star place in Cebu with rates that are very reasonable. The rooms were very clean and the staff very friendly and attentive. It's more than just a hotel but keep in mind it's landlocked and located off the beaten path. Takes about 25min to the airport and about 40min to Cebu center. For those that don't mind the […] commute (the taxis are cheap enough in Cebu) it's a great place to stay. That said, it's going to cost you 400p each way every time you go to or from the resort. The pool and grounds are very nice. The food at the restaurant was fantastic but do expect to wait for upwards of 1 hour for just about anything you order. The group of people staying there was also a fun mix of ages and nationalities. The spa staff and massage are highly recommended. All of the staff were lovely. Food was very good, rooms spacious and clean, well stocked, excellent staff. Massage prices high, only shuttle out goes at 9AM and must be booked ahead of time. This is a nice and pleasant resort if your vacation plans are to relax and read a book by the pool. That was not what I was looking for. I assumed this hotel was near the beach, which turned out to be a very wrong assumption. There is absolutely nothing near this place. To go out to a restaurant other than the resort's restaurant is a long taxi ride […] that includes a 50 peso surcharge for the driver coming out of his way. We found this location extremely inconvenient. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Alta Cebu is the closest resort to Cebu City. Cebu is a very spread out city, so travelling from City hotels can also entail extended travel times. Many popular malls, restaurants and other attractions are about a 30 minute drive from Alta Cebu-making them closer than from some downtown hotels. Our driver can offer convenient personalized transport, and we are also the only resort to offer free morning shuttle. Taxi’s here are very cheap- normally costing between $5 and $8 USD -including tip. Cebu City is congested, noisy and polluted; to save a few dollars on a taxi but miss the beauty of “Cebu’s best garden resort” (according to an industry professional) would not be the preferred trade-off for most of our guests. Resorts, such as the one the guest mentioned, are typically smaller in size and most only offer a small beach of imported sand; their rooms rates are higher, sometimes double or more at holidays. Their restaurant costs are typically higher and they have less activities available inside the resort. No resort is perfect, but many guests say we offer more of what they want for substantially less cost. For example, Alta Cebu has a reputation at review sites for offering great service, nice rooms with all the amenities that an average person will need (split type AC, large flat screen TV, hot shower, beautiful garden views, 7 wi fi hot spots, etc.) spotless rooms and best of all, good value. Near to Alta Cebu there are 5 restaurants (soon to be 6), with more to see and do just across the river in Mactan Island. Alta Cebu has ocean access from Alta Bay dock, where we offer rafting tours, scuba classes and more.

Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Alta has an in-house taxi service and we are more than willing to call a taxi for him. It definitely does not cost twice as much for taxi here—actually cheaper than ALL other resorts, since we are closest resort to Cebu. Taxis are not expensive in the Philippines- budget about $6-$8, including tip, for typical ride to the center of Cebu City. To get to the edge of Cebu is about 15 minutes. If you stay in Cebu, the travel cost and time are not that much less, due to congestion in a long and spread out city. Most of the fun things to do are on our side of Cebu. Relative to Cebu hotels you may save 15 to 20 minutes for the convenience of staying in a polluted, un-beautiful and noisy city. The cost of taxi’s here is very cheap. In a 24 hour day, most of your hours are spent in a tranquil “Garden of Eden” and a relatively small time in a Taxi. That is a worthy trade off for most. I’m sorry that this guest was expecting a beach resort. In fact our full name is Alta Cebu Village Garden Resort and Convention Center. We shortened it to Alta Cebu because it was harder to remember us with such a long name. No where do we claim to be a beach resort, even though we do have ocean access at Alta Bay dock. For those who want to do water sports, the boat dock is a perfect place to launch island hopping, scuba, or rafting tour. Lacking a beach has not been a big problem for guests who can appreciate all the things we offer that cannot be found –affordably- elsewhere.
"A Quiet Oasis"
ALTA is a beautiful resort located about 10 minutes from Lapu-Lapu City and about 20 minutes from Cebu City. My fiance and I were pleased by this quiet oasis. The grounds are clean and attractive, with plenty of shade trees and walking paths surrounding the buildings. The resturaunt is good, and the service is top notch. The owner is directly involved […] in the management of the hotel, and he is committed to making sure you enjoy your stay. The only drawback is that the resort does not have its own beach, but you can arrange shuttle service to visit one of the other nearby beachside resorts. The staff will also help you arrange a day outing, island hopping, or city tour. Overall, a very romantic stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We enjoyed the secluded privacy of the resort, its lush, tropical landscape, inviting pool area, night-time entertainment and the delicious, reasonably- priced meals. "A Very Pleasant Stay...will definitely return!"
I spent 8 days at Alta Cebu Resort and found it to be a quaint yet elegant little resort. I did a good bit of research prior to my trip looking for the perfect place to stay. I could have gone to one of the upscal hotels that offered comparable, perhaps even better amenities, but that was not what I was looking for, I just wanted to have a quiet time […] with my fiancee', and that is exactly what we experienced. At Alta Cebu Resort, the staff are genuinely determined to make sure you are as comfortable as possible, and will go out of their way within reason to make sure of it. One example worth mentioning is when I lost my phone in a taxi, the hotel security had detailed record of the taxi company, the taxi number, as well as the driver's name. The front desk spent time over the following days making calls trying to track my phone down for me. One of the staff, Oliver, actually took time on his day off to contact his friend with the police to see if he could recover my phone. I also had the pleasure of sitting and visiting with Larry the owner of the resort, and shared some ideas with him to make the place more compelling, and he was very open and interested in my comments. Overall, I would highly recommend this resort, but it is a nichy sort of place that caters to a specific vibe, and just happened to be exactly what I was looking for. Do your research carefully, but if you choose Alta Cebu Resort, they will make sure you enjoy your stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"An environmentally friendly Haven"
Having had surgery in Manila, I was wanting a relaxing getaway in a friendly environment, and ALTA Resort in Cebu certainly provided it. Although out of the way from the airport, a call to the hotel resulted in a quick and very welcoming pick-up. On arrival, I was greeted with a refreshing drink and taken to my comfortable and aesthetically pleasing […] room. Although at first not being allowed to bring in food may seem a little harsh, the cleanliness of the inviting gardens and walkways soon makes you appreciate this guideline. It is like an exotic oasis after Manila and when I return, I will be very tempted to spend most of my time just enjoying the pool within the grounds. This time, unable to swim, I booked a couple of local trips which were excellent in organisation, cost, and friendliness of the driver / guide. Not only was delicious food provided in a beautiful setting at the hotel, I was introduced to the area's fresh and simply yummy dishes at local dining places. The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful, and interacted with me as a valued guest and as a welcome person. Locally handcrafted jewellery of shells and coral made wonderful keepsakes for me and presents for friends. "Garden of Eden"
It was my frist trip to the Philippines. I was coming to meet my fiance for the first time. Her and i spent several weeks reading reviews for our most anticipated meeting. We chose this hotel base only on the reviews written. Others were too expensive (over price), not good location, and bad reviews, specially on the staff. I am afraid of air travel,so […] getting there was an experience on itself. Beeing on a foreign country and not knowing the language, can be very intimidating. I was, but when I met my future wife I was content:but when I got to Alta , all intimidation went out the window. That's when my dream vacation started. I felt as I had been forgiving of my sin's and been allowed back to "The garden of Eden". This is a magical place, that will indulged you with their friendly staff, and flora surroundings. From the maintenance Jerome, to a relaxing massge with Ada, to the friendly ladies at the front desk ( eden, edna, blonde lady-sorry forgot your name ), to Marcos, the bartender, always keeping your drink full ( in my case Rum and Coke), to the GM, to the owner Larry, it makes you feel as if you were in pandora. If you have seen the movie Avatar, then you know what I am talking about.the place is magical. I felt in love with my fiance, thanks to the beautifull place and care I got from them. Everyone was very professional and kind. I booked my stayed for 15 days, but duo to personal reasons, i had to leave a few days early. "way to far from everything"
hotel reception is great, the place is nice with live music at nite, rooms still need fixing, place is too far from everything and it's not a beach front like it say's on the advertisement.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Thank you for your review. Alta staff is grateful for all the nice things this guest says about us. I am a little perplexed that the reasons he will not recommend us is that we are, as he says, far from the city and not directly on a beach. After an extensive search I cannot find anywhere online that advertise a beach at Alta. We do advertise that Alta offers a free shuttle to the many Cebu beaches, including one that is less than a mile away. Some guests prefer to discover secluded beaches by boating from Alta Bay Dock to the many nearby islands, which is not an available option from many of the beach resorts. Though I confess that Alta is a little bit of a hideaway, we are still the closest resort to Cebu City. Many guests think the 30 to 45 minute ride to Cebu City is a worthwhile trade-off, exchanging stress and smog of the city for tranquility of our beautiful pool and gardens. We totally refurbished most of the guest rooms (to the extent that many guests say they look brand new). Perhaps we ran out of refurbished rooms and had to put this guest into soon-to-be refurbished room. We recently started our personal butler service, so that guests will have only one person accountable for all their needs. Edna is our one-woman welcoming committee and personal butler. This was her first week on the job, so please accept our apology if she forgot to explained the room situation to this guest.

Wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first visit to Cebu . I was pleasntly surprised to find this oasis after driving through the city streets. The pool area and the bar is very clean […] and relaxing . The hotel offers several options to explore the area so you can do as much or as little as you want. The breakfast buffet was nice as well. "A great place close enough to the city for fun and far enough away to relax afterwards!"
Upon arriving I had some minor misunderstanding that were quickly resolved by the owner and staff. I spent a week at the Waterfront, Lahug prior to spending a week at Alta. If you compare the prices you probably expect a lot less from Alta than Waterfront and you would be wrong as I was. While I agree this hotel is not for everyone, I do strongly suggest […] it if you want a private resort without the hustle and bustle of a big city hotel. A very inexpensive taxi ride will put you in any city of your choice. They also have a p.c. room with internet access, in case you don't have your laptop with you. There Wi-Fi was as good as any other in the region and worked in my room as well as the common areas. The rooms do have some murals on the wall for the tropical feel and they might not be considered "elegant", but they go with the theme and if you aren't uptight you will come to appreciate them. They are also very comfortable and I loved the bed. I had a problem with the cable, but was given a dvd player and a large selection of movies to keep me occupied. The restaraunt is great and the chefs will do whatever they can to make something for you that isn't on the menu. The owner is also on site and very willing to listen to any input you might offer, as well as socialize. Also had plenty of entertainment if I wanted to stay in. Because they are green the pool is not heated, because they are green the water in the "hot tub" is cold. we are […] not green people. We like a higher level of comfort. Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Thanks for giving me the chance to tell future guests what to expect. Both ecology-minded guests and others find something to like at Alta, because we are able offer a boutique resort with standards comparable to other more expensive resorts and also offer prices which are about 25% cheaper. Being one of the very few owner run resorts in Cebu allows us to give better value without compromising our service and room standards. Many rooms were refurbished this year. My apologies if the staff mistakenly gave this guest one of the soon to be refurbished rooms. Actually, all resorts in Cebu are surrounded by ghetto's. The community nearby to Alta Cebu Resort is very safe. Even though nearly 90% of the country is below middle class, poverty does not equal dangerous. Many guests walk freely around the village and make friends with locals and we are happy to give a village tour to those who request one. Some guest even ask us to help them volunteer at the local orphanage. We also offer a free shuttle to all the local beaches. From Alta’s dock a boat can be hired to visit nearby island beaches. Nobody, not even the 5 and 6 star hotels and resorts in Cebu, heat their pools and outdoor Jacuzzi’s. The very few nearby high-end resorts with indoor heated Jacuzzi’s charge about double the cost of a room at Alta Cebu Resort just to use the indoor heated Jacuzzi.
""a little disappointed""
Out of the way, is 1 way of describing this place. I didn't mind the surrounds, and thought the grounds weren't too bad. I found the pricing for the food and beverages to be way over the top, even for hotel pricing when you expect an increase. The policy of not bringing any food or beverages onto the property I just ignored... I just thought the markup […] on snack items and San Mig was insane. The food was a big let down for me, I found the menu very limited and the quality to be pretty substandard. I only ordered twice off the menu and that was enough.. Some things he failed to mention are: we are the closest resort to Cebu City and one of the closest to the airport; Alta’s restaurant prices are less expensive than many other comparable resorts; our room rates are about 25% lower than comparable resorts. Most guests say the food tastes very good- a chef for U.S. congressmen told me as good as the better Washington D.C. & New York City restaurants. Our 5 hard working chefs’ take great pride in doing their best and are often in the restaurant taking special requests. It is common knowledge that even the best cook in the world cannot please everyone. And as a hands-on American owner I demand western standards of hygiene (you can ask for me from 8 Am till midnight 7 days a week if any problem cannot be quickly resolved by our staff). City hotels do offer somewhat cheaper restaurant prices but they do not offer fresh air, Mini-Olympic sized pool amid the tranquil ambiance of a 5 acre garden paradise. Unlike most hotels and resorts, at Alta Cebu almost everything is complementary: welcome drink, airport pick up, breakfast for 2, shuttle to all the beaches in Cebu, frequent live entertainment (cultural dance, live music, fire dancers, Chinese New Year dragons with fireworks, etc.), 7 WI-Fi hot spots, many sports and activities (wall climb, billiards, ping pong, games, etc.), DVD videos, fitness center, and more..All free!
"I really felt at home there"
My second trip to cebu I stayed at Alta Cebu Resort. I really felt at home there. The people are real friendly. I’ll probably stay there again when I return.Genuine Expedia guest review
I had the pleasure of staying at Alta Cebu Resort for a total of four nights. The hotel is in great condition and has many amenities. The staff and management were extremely friendly and professional and went above and beyond. The room was in good condition and was very clean. As far as location is concerned, the hotel is located near all the main beaches. […] It's also very easy to get a free shuttle service. The restaurant located on site was enjoyable as well. The menu had a wide variety of menu options and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend Alta Cebu to anyone who is looking for a relaxing vacation in a guest friendly environment. "A HIDDEN JEM OF A RESORT"
CLOSE TO AIRPORT, TUCKED AWAY IN UNCROWDED NEIGHBORHOOD AND VERY CLOSE TO LAPU LAPU FOR SHOPPING EXCURSIONS. ALOT OF ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN. THE STAFF WERE HELPFUL AND VERY COURTIOUS AND THE FOOD WAS WELL PREPARED. WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY THERE AND PLAN TO LODGE THERE AGAIN NEXT YEAR. HAKUNA MATATA.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Room and Great Staff"
I was very pleased with everything at the hotel. I enjoyed the sparkling clear swimming pool, eating at the hotel restaurant, the very nice and attentive staff. I travel Asia extensively and was pleased with the ombiance and design of the hotel and gardens. It is out of the hussel and bussel of the city and it took about a 10 minute taxi ride to get […] to the malls. For me this was a plus since I like a peaceful and quiet surroundings. "GREAT HOTEL FOR RELAXING"
This is a wonderful resort for those seeking a quiet, relaxing holiday or place to stay after a long business day in the Cebu City area. All staff members are attentive, friendly, accomodating --- more than willing to assist by any measure of reasonableness. The owner went out of his way to meet and greet us and make sure our needs were met. The location […] is excellent provided that one is willing to take taxis into Cebu --- about a 20 - 30 minute ride depending on day of the week and time of day. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening events; a cultural dance program, tapas meal, and a traditional filipino barbecue. The dining room menu is somewhat limited though particularly for those staying more than 4 or 5 days --- a bit more menu variety would be a welcome addition. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property again for those who prefer to be away from the noise and congestion of a big city. Thanks to the staff for their hospitable manner and personal warmth toward us. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Booked a hotel stay based on the review of others. Unfortunately, this hotel did not live up to anything close to the positive reviews. Staff was very pleasant and cooperative but was very disappointed in the facility. The room was very tacky. Furniture outdated, cable did not work at all, Staff gave me multiple possible wifi log-in links/passwords […] which failed. Fitness room was a joke. Outdated with old used equipment. An "old" manual treadmill. Just one of the poorest condition resort you would find. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by ALTA Cebu Resort Thank you for your feedback. We would like to note that the internet was fixed after a few days of being down. We also give out free DVD movies when there are issues with the cable company. Another recently departing guest says ours is one of the best resorts because of the attentive staff and wonderful gardens. He is used to booking presidential suite at only the finest resorts. I make it a point to meet every guest when they first arrive and tell them my door is always open if there is anything not to their liking- I will do my best to make it right. Recently, a booking company rep for the largest or second largest booking companies in the world told us that he believed that Alta Cebu Resort has the best potential of any resort in the Philippines. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Tacky to some will be a quaint boutique resort to others.
I would recommend this hotel especially to couples and families. The facilities are good, great pool, nice food (although I would have liked to see more local dishes on menu). The shining star of this resort are the staff. They are genuinely concerned about the well-being of guests, and are very friendly without being pushy and 'in-your-face'. "love to come back"
this was my first and hopefully not my last stay at the Alta Cebu Resort. I am a frequent traveller, but I must say that this is the first time that I actually write a review about a hotel/resort, because this was an outstanding experience for me to stay there that I actually thought it is worth it to comment on it. As soon as you arrive you get the […] feeling that you are more than welcome there- you feel home! In less than 5 min I checked in and found myself already at the pool. The place is very clean and quite - the perfect resort to shut down and relax. The food/drinks are very good and prices are compared to other Cebu resorts reasonable. The main reason why I would like to leave a comment here is because of the resort's staff. Unlike other hotels/resorts people don't mind to go the extra mile to make a guest happy. I just asked the very friendly lady at the reception where I could go to get my flight changed. At other hotels you can be happy if you get a map, but here I was more than surprised that they offered right away to take care of my flight change, so that I could actually enjoy my time at the resort. saved me a couple hours. this was just one of the many possitive experiences I had there- thanks nice reception lady!!! I travel quite a bit since about 10 years and I must say that every hotel has a bed for me to sleep in, but what actually makes my stay enjoyable is the staff which gives me the feeling that I am "home". hope to come back!! As an American traveller who has visited 28 countries and hundreds of resorts over the years, I have to say that Alta Resort is by far one of the very best I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. The resort itself is a beautiful oasis to relax and socialize in. The modern facilities were outstanding in everyway. The greeting I experienced at the […] spacious and comfortable lobby was very friendly and organized. It was so nice to receive a sincere welcoming with a warm smile and refreshing beverage. The guest room I stayed at was extremely clean, spacious, and comfortable. The giant king size bed with the surrounding curtains made me feel as if I was sleeping in a palace. I also really appreciated the incredible view from my room of the evening skyline of Cebu City. The view was spectaculor. One of my favorite parts of the resort was the swimming pool area. The pool water had a perfect temperature and the hours of operation were extensive so night swimming was truly a joy. The lounge chairs were large, fully reclining, and comfortable. I think that the most special quality of Alta Resort was the comfortable, relaxing, and fun ambiance that was evident throughout the resort. It was so easy to just relax and have quiet solitude but it was also easy to meet guests at the resort because of the unique layout of the Monkey Bar, swimming pool, and lounge area. I was also very impressed with the management and ownership of this resort. Very friendly! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Friendly staff in a very ordinary resort"
The place is tired and run down. Breakfast was cold and a poor selection. Pool was superb. Room was crass in terms of decor. TV was poor. No hot water for the sink. Shower was useless.Staff were friendly and very helpful. The area is remote and you require a taxi to get to shops, restaurants etc. Facility is used for conferences and you could hear the […] noise most of the day. This resort might suit people with young families that are prepared to stay on site for a few days. This would be at best a three star in Australia and was not value for money. The Alta is set in the country side away from the ocean. It has pleasant gardens and a pool. It is quiet except when the planes fly overhead and if there are noisy guests. The staff are very good and pleasant. The meals are good. It is quite isolated and there is only one other restaurant in the area that we found. To access a beach you take the shuttle […] at 9:00 a.m. and you need to pay to use a beach. You then need to pay a taxi to get back to the Alta. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A bit tired and dated, but exceptional staff"
On arriving, I was initially a disappointed. The resort and buildings were a bit dated and tired, but it was all very clean. It was much smaller the the website suggests and whilst there was plenty of greenery, there were no real gardens to speak of. Our first room was unacceptable. We had a basic room but at the price, we really expected better - […] lights and an old TV that didn't work & the bed and sheets were horrible. However, we were immediately moved to a very acceptable room. During our 10 day stay, the place did grow on us. Although tired and dated, it was kept clean. The staff were very attentive and the food was good. The pool was fine and never too busy. Breakfasts were good, but as with all buffets, but get there early. The bar closed too early around 10.30 pm leaving only a 24 hour snack shop for beers and soft drinks. Their description 'wondrous, mystical gardens' is ambitious. Don't expect anything too special. The resort hosts functions and seminars, mostly daytime, and music was too loud. Getting about could be a problem for those not familiar with the area and local transport. The resort is located on Cordova and is a 20 minute ride to Lapu Lapu & 45 minutes to Cebu City. There's nothing of interest within walking distance. Like so many places, it doesn't live up to the pictures etc on the website. But we came to enjoy the place and we would go back. We always felt safe and secure. It's no Shangri-La but it is affordable and the staff were exceptional. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I stayed at this resort for just over two weeks, which I think was a bit too long to stay in one place. Nevertheless, I just want to say that the staff are fantastic and will go to great lengths to help you. I thought the architecture of the buildings was great as well, especially the Bahamas rooms, which is where I stayed. All around the resort is […] beautiful, with a great variety of foliage. The Altabay at the back of the resort provides a pretty nice view as well. The one negative I had with this resort was the wifi connection. It is slow! I waited and waited for things to load, which caused quite a bit of frustration. Also, I looked forward to seeing the monkeys they had advertised as having, but I later learned that they had become ill, and were required to be moved to a sophisticated zoo. All in all, I think Alta is a beautiful place. I went to Portofino Beach Resort to use their beach one day (since Alta doesn't have one) and it is nowhere near as beautiful as Alta Cebu. The staff is very friendly, and you can easily relax and enjoy the sun. I don't know if this was just the timing of my stay, but it never seemed to be busy at Alta; I was often the only one using the pool. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A real resort for real people"
Fantastic, friendly staff and a resort that has tried to blend with the culture rather than set itself away from the local community with grandeur. If you are looking for 5 star with no soul then this is not for you. Larry the owner is hands on and will listen to comments without taking umberage. I will warn, do not be fooled by the word Superior when […] booking a room, the word standard should be applied because if we had borrowed a cat from the poolside the chances of him being swung in there were nil! The room we stayed in had a damp smell, was tiny and a decor that was "unique" but was always spotless. Food was good but limited, we didnt try the tours as we found cheaper ones elsewhere. The pool was great and well maintained with classy and stylish furniture around the area. You have no beach but there is a free shuttle and all the beaches on Cebu seemed to be privately owned and you pay to use them. The gardens and landscaping are excellent and the whole feeling of the hotel is one of serenity and relaxation which is enchanced by the ever smiling staff who seem like a family. I would recommend this hotel to normal people, who live in the real world, for the people who want to live in luxury, away from the locals and in a steralised world this is not for you, but what is the point of going to a country if you dont see it and absorb some of its culture? Response by ALTA Cebu Resort The few negatives this guest did mention are similar to minor deficiencies that he would have encountered at comparable resorts. We made a conscious choice to stress very good service and good quality combined with good value rather than pricy opulence. Other resorts with lesser rooms than ours also use the word superior. Tiny is not a word many people use for rooms. Our superior rooms are perhaps 10% smaller than the more expensive superior rooms at equivalent resorts. The damp smell he is refereeing to is common at many Philippine resorts. Our staff is trained to air out the room and turn on AC before guests arrive (to clear out the damp smell), but even with daily reminders, training is sometimes forgotten. We are in the process of our yearly room updates and renovations this month. We do offer beach shuttle to all beaches and also to nearby malls and shopping (for free)-something no other resort offer. The cost to use some of the beaches can be as low as $1 a day. Our (not so) limited menu is the norm for most mid-sized Cebu resorts; we were actually advised to reduce the number of menu offerings ( from the more extensive number of dishes on our previous menu) by a Dutch restaurant consult and HRM professor who we hired to make our new menu. We have 64 meal choices on our menu including meals for vegetarians from Alta’s organic garden, as well as a good variety of desert choices from our pastry chef +imported and local wines and beers. There are 11 breakfast options as well as gourmet coffees, specialty teas and assorted fruit smoothies. Our chef will come to the table and personally offer guests off-menu meals of their choice, when requested.
