"Beautiful view but bathroom not so good."
Great place for one night. Bathroom shower had mold and the a/c was subpar, was set too warm and couldn't be lowered. View of the water and cliffs were outstanding.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Hotel ...Hostel ?"
While the staff are extremely friendly, attentive and helpful, during the school holidays when we went, they cater for a variety of school parties from around Europe - up 150 children at a time. The problem is that the children are generally poorly supervised and run rings around the hotel staff depite their best efforts making noise and playing knock […] and run on our door until well past midnight on occasions. While we do not blame the hotel staff for not being able to control the children, rather the teachers, or the hotel for getting business where it can in these tough times it made for a very difficult stay for a young family. The hotel is at fault in that the problem is exacerbated by poor noise insulation and lack of maintenance on the stair rails which rattled continuously and the rattled echoed up and down the stairwell. Ideal if you are bringing another school group not good for families or light sleepers. Certainly not a four star hotel more a glorified youth hostel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good! BUT not a ****-hotel!"
07/27/14 JuliusJoseph Brussels, Belgium
We enjoyed our stay in Hotel Albatros. It is very well-located in Piano di Sorrento, with its nice harbor (you'll find some very good restaurants there!) and beach (for most of them, you'll have to pay an entrance fee, however, if you just walk towards the west end of the harbour, you'll find a nice beach with no entrance fee at all!). The hotel has also a nice swimming pool. Breakfast is good: eggs, sausages, fresh fruit (oranges,...), different kinds of yoghurt, bread,... Rooms are ok and clean. If this hotel would have been ***-star, it would be perfect. However, now it has a ****-rate, and in my opinion that is a bit too high, but i still think that the price we paid was a quite correct price for what we got. So, it is a fine hotel, with quite correct prices, but do not expect ****-luxury.

Before I arrived in Italy I checked out the reviews for all our hotels and this one had me worried, and I was right. It's outside Sorrento, so there's not a lot around to see or do. There is a beach a 15 minute walk away but you pay a bar to gain admittance and you have to pay for a parasol and if you want a beach chair/ sun bed. The room was very dated, in need of major TLC. The bed sheets and towels in the bathroom had stains on, the towels were also very poor quality. The mini fridge did not appear to work very well and the AC seemed to turn on when it wanted to. Breakfast was okay, but it lacks the variety we had in other hotels we stayed in (some of which had less stars than this one!). The staff on reception were not the most welcoming or friendly and we had to ask for a map of the local area (which wasn't to scale) whereas other hotels we stayed at automatically gave us a map and pointed out local sites etc to do. We also were given the room on the end of the second floor and the rooms around us appeared to be given to the kids on the two school trips we had during our stay so that was a little annoying. I definitely wouldn't stay here again personally and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.

I was on a college trip so the hotel was not needing to be fancy. As i arrived at the hotel the location was fine with a beach a 15 minute walk away. The rooms were clean to a satisfactory standard. However, the bed sheets had several stains on them, and were not changed for at least 2 days. The food was the most shocking. There was not one meal that i could of ate. Examples are a courgette omelette, chicken with lettuce drenched in oil, turkey in some sort of tomato sauce. Most people on my trip did not eat the food. It was a disgrace. The hotel is full of school children, so there is no chance of getting a good nights sleep! In addition to this, the staff were very unfriendly and were unwelcoming. During my stay i encountered several problems such as the shower breaking and the air conditioning not working.

I stayed at this hotel on a college trip. First impressions were that the rooms were clean, but very dated. Beds were satisfactory, but not particularly comfortable. Bathroom was again dated, and the shower had broken on the second night. Food was not great, breakfast consisted of stale cornflakes and powdered orange juice from a machine. Evening meals were no better, very little in the way of protein, it was usually pasta for starters, on one particular night an over-salted savoury rice dish was served, followed by rubberised chicken meat which was covered in pasta sauce possibly from the previous evening. The pizzeria across the road was a life saver - excellent pizza and hospitality and free wifi! Hotel was in a good location, beautiful scenery, but if you get the choice, use as a bed and breakfast base, as the food is of very poor quality.
"Fawlty School Trip - good job we can laugh!"
06/10/14 georgefirth1 York, United Kingdom
School trip with 43 12-14 year old and 6 staff last month (May). Let's start with the positives - hhm!? Beautiful, glorious part of the world, The breakfast and meal staff are friendly. We had a lovely complimentary glass of local red wine with each evening meal. The sheets were clean, and the rooms were cleaned very efficiently (though read on for a big issue here!). The comedy and darker moments: Basillia (the manager seems to be a menacing bespectacled female) and her staff had booked 5 kids to a room despite the trip organisers (not mentioned here for legal reasons) assuring us there would be three or four max to a room. The 5 beds to a room were jammed in literally on top of each other (bunk beds and singles with no room for the kids to move about). the air conditioning was not turned on as apparently (according to Basillia) they can only legally turn it on from June 1st. So hot, sweaty, smelly crowded conditions for the poor kids! They had messed up the staff rooms too (3 men , 3 women, 3 double rooms - work out the maths!) but we managed to sort that and preserve our marriages. The kids kept locking themselves in the shower rooms and toilet as the locks were faulty re badly hung doors! We had 3 separate cases of kids locked in toilets - one for half an hour on the first morning! This was obviously a serious health and safety issue re what if there had been a fire etc with kids locked in!? Reception were obviously used to this - Manuelo, on the first morning, came up with a briefcase, from which he produced a pair of pliers and calmly opened the jammed lock (we had tried everything beforehand). On the third occasion of producing these wonderful fliers I asked him to just leave them with me! He was aghast at the suggestion and said something like 'No no - what about all the other rooms?!'. So top tip - block the hook-bolt holes up with loo paper - or take your own handy pliers. Toilets also regularly blocked up. Food - covered in another school's review above. Not great. Stacks of pasta but with a sauce so bland I'd be ashamed to be Italian and dish it up. As a veggie I sometimes won (on the bony, scaly fish night) but usually lost (on night two, after the starter of anti-pasta cheesy sauce, my veggie offering for the main course was exactly the same pasta but with tons of tinned peas thrown in! I honestly though the waiter was joking - but no! Yum. Eat out if you get the chance - there's a lovely pizza place just across the road.) Communication - very poor from reception, and not over friendly. Have stayed in other local hotels in Piano where the staff were lovely and helpful. On day four the staff moved three rooms of our girls (teenagers) out of their rooms without even hinting or letting us know that they werre intending to do this ie while we were having a lovely day out at Herculaneum staff went into the rooms, bagged everything up into random bags and moved them up 2 floors - mixing clothing, belongings and toiletries! They did not even hint that they were going to be doing this, or let us know at reception on our return. I'm sure you can imagine the hysterical, shocked reaction of the teens on discovering that their rooms were empty! There was no real apology or explanation from the hotel - something to do with them overbooking and needing to free up rooms. The girls were mortified and upset and it was basically rude, disrespectful unthinking and discourteous. It soured the end of the trip for some of the group :-( but they seem to have got over it. Lastly, random groups on non-school visitors, were placed amongst the children's rooms (there were 3 different school parties there at the time) - don't get me wrong, the pupils overall were fantastic and well behaved, but you can imagine the noise and excitement on an evening! I felt quite sorry for those visitors. In short, if you have the choice as a school party or as a visiting summer family, avoid this place. The Bay of Naples area is obviously beautiful, spectacular and inspiring - but this hotel was more of a hunched up soggy pigeon than a glorious soaring Albatross.
"Depressing food in adequate 'school trip' hotel"
04/25/14 Claphamlady Claphamlady
Stayed at the Albatros on a school trip (one of 5 teachers escorting 35 9-10-11 year olds on 5 day 4 night trip to Pompeii/Herculaneum etc.) Feel some of the reviews are somewhat unfair - the hotel was clean if shabby (holes in sheets and cigarette burns on blankets) and furniture is cheap and dated. However, rooms are reasonably spacious and everything worked - hot water for showers and reading lights etc. all fine. Hotel staff were reasonably helpful and efficient getting the group in and out each day and making sure we knew where out coach was. What really was not good, however, was the food. V. sad to be in Italy and surrounded by orange and lemon groves and only have reconstituted powdered orange juice for breakfast. Also watery instant coffee from a machine!!! Our 'packed lunches' involved 2 or 3 white bread rolls with procesed cheese or ham and a dried up apple - no other fruit and heaps of carbs. dinner was a generous dish of pasta - which was fine, all kids eat pasta - followed by a 'meat' course - meat obviously frozen chicken or pork based and then reconstitutes and potatoes - not a green vegetable for the whole time - and tiny, inedible 'erzatz' dessert. I understand that they are working on tiny budgets but surely they could have done better than this! Location poor for school group, too as no outside space at all. Would not be prepared to take a group there again unless I could be assured that the food was going to be better!
"Not a nice hotel"

I was always told if you have a bad thing to say then say it first o all the rooms were out dated and that if you are staying there then I suggest you try to get your money back because this hotel is crap the one nice thing is the rooms are spacious the food was rotten but the pasta was quite nice and that there is hardly any shops I went shopping looking for souvenirs for my family and there was nothing also you are not in sorrento you are outside of it
"Clean and quaint"
07/31/13 Jacquelyn_San_Diego San Diego
The location is in the heart of the town, and quite adorable. The staff was helpful, the breakfast was enjoyable, and the rooms were very clean. I thought the room was small, but bright and charming. I'd say my only complaint was the flooring. Everything was tiled, and someone must have checked in or out late and their rolling bag would echo through the halls.
"Perfect Hotel Base for Sorrento and Amalfi Coast"
07/24/13 Daniel S London, United Kingdom
This hotel has a family-run business feel to it and is therefore really very comfortable and cosy, and is a super place to relax by the pool. The food is simply outstanding; the head chef introduced me to local delicacies and educated me on local cuisine compared to northern Italy. The mozzarella is to die for! The location is ideal for sightseeing along the Amalfi coast, trips to the beach, or into the town and harbour. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and the room was clean and well equipped to deal with 35 degree heat outside. About another review about the church bell chiming every 15-20 minutes, the bells do chime every 15 minutes, as they do in almost every church in Italy! Looking forward to going back to Hotel Albatros next summer!
