I cannot fault this hotel. It is a real oasis of calm in a frenetic city. I loved the décor - my room was stylish and very comfortable. The spa and pool was excellent and the staff were plentiful, polite and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Superb! What a surprise!"
Perfect boutique hotel in the middle of Shanghai will all the amenities of a big chain. It’s no reason its rated #4 hotel in Shanghai. Close to the best shopping on Nanjing west and to the Jing'an Temple. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed and well soundproofed. They have great bath products, dual large closet space. Large bathroom with 2 sinks, […] large shower, separate toilet and a bathtub. The staff is top notch, and we were allowed to checkout in the late afternoon to catch an early evening flight. The spa and restaurant are great. The breakfast selection is very decent. Yes, its far from the Bund but its a 5$ taxi ride. Be prepared to wait for cabs, there is an office tower next door with a taxi stand so cabs pick up fairs there quicker than at the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Puli Hotel and Spa"
We have just spent. 6 nights st The Puli and loved it. The facilities are fantastic and the staff are so helpful and friendly. We are definitely going back to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed 3 nights at the Puli in Shanghai. great location, right next door to the metro station, shanghai metro very easy to use and cheap! Good restaurants close by and within walking distance of the French quarter. Lovely room, got a free upgrade. Service very good. Fully complimentary minibar which I haven't seen before including beers and snacks. […] Didn't use the spa as it was very expensive but looked good if you don't mind paying. Didn't have the opportunity to use the pool either but I am sure it would have been good. hotel is only about a year old. Very easy to get around using the shanghai metro, didn't use a cab once. Free wifi in rooms is a great bonus! Overall excellent hotel but expected for the price we paid. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Unbeatable for location and style"
We're former residents of Shanghai so we know the place very well. The location of the Pu Li is perfect - close to both Nanjing Lu and the French Concession with great restaurants and shopping on An Fu Lu, Fumin Lu and Fuxing Lu. Jing An temple is across from the hotel on Nanjing Lu and there is a metro station underneath. We could not fault the service […] and friendliness of staff and highly recommend the airport transfer (although it is super expensive) for a stress free and fast arrival in a Mercedes rather than the bone-rattling Shanghai cabs. We selected a Grand Room, with a view to the west and Jing An park. The room was quiet, not huge but a cleverly designed to make it feel open and spacious. Lots of thoughtful details like a Nespresso machine, technical kit (for your laptop etc), free wireless, fresh fruit, robes, slippers ... all the things you expect (and sometimes don't even get) when you stay at the top 5 star hotels. My husband is an extremely picky traveller and stays in some of the best hotels around the world for work and even he was impressed by the Pu Li. Unless you're in town for business only and need to be in Pudong I don't think there is a better hotel in the Puxi side. Will definitely be back for our next visit to Shanghai. Fantastic experience from the off. Arrived around 10am after a long flight and were taken immediately to an upgrade room far above what I could afford! Wonderful room, attention to detail, staff and spa. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. I'm normally cynical about over positive reviews on Trip Advisor, but after travelling extensively around […] Asia, Africa and Europe, this place is certainly the finest hotel I have stayed in. 36 hours in Shanghai, but we barely wanted to leave the hotel. "Very cool design and ambiance"
Wow, China has really become urban and international. And have the money to spend on hotels. Impressive design and layout of The Puli. Boutique feel yet quite a few rooms and all the amenities/facilities you'd ever need. The lobby bar as well as the library bar are good hangouts with certain buzz going on most of the time. Electricty went out middle […] of night in my room, and the front desk staff were great switched rooms immediately and made sure I got etra attention the rest of the stay. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Had the need to get some painkillers from a pharmacy early one morning before I set off to a meeting outside of Shanghai. The night manager took me by taxi to a pharmacy that was closed, got it opened and help me purchase what I needed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"We enjoyed it."
This is the best hotel we had so far in China Shanghai. We love the whole environment of the hotel. The service is great. They were very helpful and very friendly. But only one man working at the reception had a funny attitude when we checked out. He was no smiling and no conversation with me at all while we were checking out. He just told me there […] is no other charge then picked up a phone infront of me and let me stand there for 5 mins then told me we were done. Little bit disappointed at the end. "The Puli. Best in Show"
The coolest hotel in Shanghai with one of the best designed and most interesting lobbies anywhere for people watching. It is wonderful that the rooms have polished timber floors so much cleaner than stinking carpet and so much better looking. Last week was my 6th stay at The Puli and it is going to be hard to beat.Genuine Expedia guest review

Amazing modern boutique hotel. Great service from everybodyGenuine Expedia guest review
This is a very smart, cutting-edge hotel that really seems like an oasis just metres from busy Nanjing Street. My room was beautifully appointed and I had a blissful sleep in the very comfy bed after a long flight. The 25 metre pool is wonderful, and there is a very good state-of-the-art gym. The long bar is awesome!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Amazing space in Shanghai"
Beautifully designed hotel. One of the best, if not the best, I've ever stayed in. From the moment you arrive into the secluded entrance, to the inclusion of all the cables and cosmetics you could need in the room it's just great. Staff and service is brilliant, and its sat on top of a metro station and next to Jing'an temple. Only remark is that dining […] and service is a little formal at times... Great staffGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was my fourth time staying at the Puli in the last 4 months. I do a lot of travel in China both pleasure and business and the Puli remains my favorite hotel of all time. The hotel is managed by Urban Resorts who have spent a tremendous amount of time, teaching the staff about the true meaning of the word service. The service in this hotel is amazing. […] It is not the type of intruding service that you find in many 5 star hotels in China, rather it is a very subtle and extremely professional service which makes you feel like you are in a state of complete tranquility. From the moment you pull up at the hotel entrance, through check in to when you get into the room, you feel like you are floating on air. The gym and the swimming pool are superb and once again you feel like you have everything that is required to make you stay pleasant. The hotel has great room service, open minibar with Nespresso coffe machine, snacks and beverages (all free of charge). The views of Jingan Temple (Garden View) are splendid. Location is extremely convenient in walking distance to Nanjing Road and the French concession. I can recommend the restaurant in Jingan Park called Bali Laguna, a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Also it is a 10 minute cab ride to the Bund. All in all, a truly exceptional hotel in the middle of Shanghai which beats the other 5 star hotels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"An oasis of calm"
Overall, we had a great stay. This is a cool, stylish hotel. I cant comment on the facilities as we didnt use them, but in general, all staff members were friendly and helpful, and everything worked as it should. A couple of small negatives - Hotels.com website said the hotel served a complimentary breakfast to all guests. This is not true, so beware […] when booking. There is a Costa in the building next door, but it is closed at the weekend. Also, we were looking directly onto a building site, not a great 'city' view in my mind. The location is convenient, as metro lines 2 and 7 are just a few steps away, and many shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Would happily stay there again. been to shanghai many times and the Puli is as good as it gets. One of the or if not the best hotel in Shanghai. Simple as that!Genuine Expedia guest review
Stayed at the Puli several times as a corporate traveller. It is an expensive exercise considering the price of the food as they are super expensive and also the food is very average and do not do justice for the price charged. The hotel staff do not clean your room if you leave the "Do not Disturb"button on accidentally, which is frustrating when […] you return from work and find the room not made. "There's still a long way to go with such services"
I might not be traveling as much as business travelers but I travel enough and stayed in world known 5 stars hotels and boutique hotels for more than enough times to make the following comments:- Pros: 1. Very good location, close to everywhere in Jing'an District within walking distance 2. Nice interior decorations 3. Nice swimming pool, we went swimming […] like we're having a private pool for ourselves (go to Cons for the fabrication of floor tiles) 4. Superb brunch with better services from staff (in suits) there (go to Cons for the service level by other general staff, which is the worst experience from a 5-star hotel) 5. Complimentary use of minibar with nespresso machine, which is nice as I love having coffees Cons: 1. Very slippery floor tiles chosen around the swimming pool, we have to walk VERY carefully to avoid falling onto the floor. Further improvement on fabric selection is required. 2. POOR SERVICES/ ATTITUDES - a. Staff from Long Bar/ Home Delivery/ Duty Manager, we were told that it closes at 1am and we asked if we can order from our room and get our drinks/desserts delivered. We tried to order our second round of drinks at 12:35am and the staff from Long Bar told us their last order time is 12:30am, which we were not told beforehand nor it was stated on their menu. The staff from Long Bar told us to call Home Delivery. The home delivery staff told us there's nothing they can do (which I think this kind of service is unacceptable from a high-end hotel). I called the duty manager and he later gave us the drinks and again, his explanation is not soothing and his apology wasn't sincere. We started to wonder, what kind of training does this hotel give to its staff?? b. Housekeeping staff - we stayed in PuLi on both Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday morning 10am, a housekeeping staff rang our door bell and asked if she could tidy our room (I was like WHAT?!?! Am I not allowed to stay in my own room for a little longer and is it that rush to get my Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Unique and lovely room"
Woody furnishings and flooring are lovley. 2 cupboards, one for hanging long clothes, the other for shorter stuff and drawers. 2 washing sinks, one on the bathtub side, the other on the shower room side. The bathtub is large and with a head-rest cushion. The shower room is quite spacious, too. The toilette is yet in another compartment. In the minibar […] and beverage corner, a capsule coffee machine with 6 capsules per day, plus all-free mini fridge. BOSE CD player is in. Free WIFI access. It may not be a true 6-star hotel, but it is a fantastic place to spend times. Better spend several nights rather than one-night short business trip in Shanghai. "Puli in Shanghai - Nice Hotel - Bad Experience"
They put me into the hotel room facing a construction site and I requested to changed the room. The first answer is "sure" with extra 400RMB + 15% instead of checking the why we want to change the room. Then, I sign the drinks bill to my room and they mis-read it from 710 to 1710. I correct them that my room # is 710, few minutes later, they insisted […] to see my room card. This is a terrible feeling for me. Then, they insisted my room rate is not included 1 breakfast which is clearly showed on the booking receipt. They simply ignored it and insisted us to pay for it. "Great location & free mini bar!"
The hotel is very close to JingAn Temple subway station and airport shuttle bus terminal to Pudong and Hongqiao airports. I arrived at the hotel at 8am and they were nice to allow me for an early checkin, stayed for 3 nights, also subsequently a late checkout at 2pm. The room was very spacious, & best of all the mini-bar is on the house! Coffee, tea, […] milk, juices, beer, sodas... They are re-filled once a day. Just a little disappointed that no one from the hotel guided me on the room facilities. I thought the coat room was the wardrobe! The lights above the wash basins are turnable, and there is storage behind the wash basins mirrors. It took me the next day before I realised them! But overall, it was a great hotel in a great location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic hotel and ultra convenient for business"
Beautifully appointed with spacious rooms and every comfort you need. One nice touch was the free mini bar. It was only juice, beer and softdrink but it makes a radical depature from others who charge an arm and a leg for a kit kat or beer. The hotel is very convenient for business. All my appointments were around 5-10 mins by taxi. It is right next […] to the Metro as well, lines 2 & 7. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Puli in Shanghai: doesn't get any better"
I can't find anything wrong with this hotel and I am usually quite quick on criticism! The design of the whole hotel, down to the smallest of details is simply beautiful and as in any successful design, it is also highly functional. Service was fantastic from the Concierge to the breakfast or outdoor lounge were all great. Free and fast wifi without […] any annoying pop-up pages. Never had to wait for an elevator. the view on the park, the silence of the room, the closeness to West Nanjing road and to the subway, really it was all perfect! I recently stayed 7 nights at the PuLi with my husband, our 2yo son and a friend and we all absolutely loved it! It is an oasis of calm in a huge and busy city. We stayed in the least expensive room and it was very spacious, quiet and beautiful. The bathroom area was huge and could be separated from the bedroom area by sliding doors, so we could put […] our son's cot in the bathroom and close it off at night while we stayed up. The mini bar is free (can you believe it?) and they provide plenty of bottled water every day so you never have to buy any. The free Wi-Fi, Nespresso machine and DVD player in our room were other bonuses that made our stay so pleasant. The service was excellent - staff generally spoke very good English and were unobtrusive and efficient. Davis the concierge and Martijn the general manager were particularly helpful. The breakfast was great - only negatives were that the milk tasted strange (although I think this is the case all over China) and the coffee served in the restaurant was average at best (but we could make a great espresso in our room so it didn't matter). The indoor pool is beautiful, although the water temperature is more suited to lap swimming than our leisurely splashing. The tiles around the pool too slippery so take care! Conveniently located very close to Jing'An temple subway station if you want to use the subway, but Shanghai cabs are so cheap and numerous that you can use them all the time.
