"Devastatingly Bad!"
If nothing goes wrong, this hotel would be mediocre. If anything goes wrong it will be appalling! The key card for the front door didn’t work so we were let us in, with the explanation that we needed to push the card in harder next time. The next night we both tried and eventually pushed it so hard that it snapped off in the reader. We were let in by a rude, drunken man who accused us of not taking care of the card. He said that we had done something wrong and how simple the reader is to use. He went on and on about it. He said that he would have to get the manager and it would be ten minutes and he told us to sit and wait. He found a key in reception. The light in our room was on and he ranted at us about how disgusting it was that we had left the light on etc. After a while of ranting and arm waving, I closed the door as he was still ranting. I spoke to the manager about what happened the previous night. She said we should have been more considerate about the light, but said that he had apologised for the way he spoke to us. This was too much for him and he stormed out and started ranting aggressively at us about the card and the light. He accused us of being drunk and said we were out of order and stupid. We arranged a refund for the remaining night. He charged us for the broken card and the commission. I’ve stayed at many hotels in many countries but never have I been treated as appallingly as I was at Yardley Manor Hotel. At least Bazil Fawlty was funny!

"Hotel in Dispair. Staff rude."
Awful! The first thing we noticed on arrival is that the hotel was not well looked after. The website did not give an accurate reflection of what the hotel was really like. It seemed to be left in mid-repair, with unfinished walls in the hallway and it was also very dark. The room itself had coving missing on the ceiling and anything we touched seemed to be of poor quality and would break without trying (flimsy shower doors came off when attempted to open it) . We were given a card to get into the hotel and the room. On the first night the card reader would just not work. After being advised to 'push it in harder' by the owner, the card snapped. When we rang the doorbell to try and get into the hotel, the owner answered it drunk and aggressive. He followed us up the stairs and when he realised that we left the light on in the room, proceeded to shout at us about that as well. No matter what we said to explain the situation, he was completely unreasonable. The next morning the owner did not apologies for his behaviour, he was heavily hungover and continued to speak to us in aggressive and disrespectful manner. He accused us of being drunk and said we were out of order, up our own a**** and stupid. We arranged a refund for the remaining night. He charged us for the broken card and the commission. This experience completely ruined our holiday in Devon. We stayed at many hotels in many countries but never have we been treated as appallingly as we were at Yardley Manor Hotel.

Our experience at the hotel was very positive, we found the hotel easy to find as it was well signposted from the road. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, at all times of day and with various queries. The rooms were always clean and tidy, with all the usual items (tv, refreshments of tea/coffee etc) and were very comfortable. The staff were knowledgable about the local area and willing to help tourists to find their destinations. We felt our needs were tailored for throughout our stay, with breakfasts earlier if we requested them, and even support in ordering a take away for a quiet night in. The staff allowed us to leave our car at the premises even after we checked out to visit Torquay one last time before heading home. I would highly recommend this hotel on its close location to the center of town, on its clean and well furnished rooms and its friendly and helpful staff.

"Room clean although rather small"
Booked double compact room and were upgraded on arrival which was great news especially as upgraded room was still very compact and en-suite very small. Bed was comfortable and clean and room was nice and warm (we visited in November). The tv in the room was unwatchable but furniture in hotel lounge was tatty and uncomfortable, this is one part of the hotel that should be sorted soon. Breakfast was good but restaurant also needs some work done. There is evidence of some work being done but suggest they do not make this obvious by leaving everything lying around and being evident to everyone. Position of hotel good and we were able to leave car in hotel car park and walk into town.

"Best Bed"
Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in,a brand new memory pocket matress,very clean room and 2 min walk to the harbour.Only down side was breakfast was not as good as the rest of the hotel.will stay again.

Torquay was a disappointment & the Hotel was not what we expected. The shower leaked, there were no glasses in the room/bathroom (for medicines etc). The staff were very obliging but failed to see the obvious ie lack of sugar, shortage of milk etc.

"Comfy Big Bed, with Good Location."
This is very basic. The room had marks on carpet which was supposed to be cream, this was because they let dogs in which was a bit noisy at times. The shower had mould around the door. The TV was old fashioned had to find channels every time we switched it on. The plus side was the bed it was comfortable and big. The breakfast was very limited beans OR Toms, only 1 sausage 1 small rasher of bacon. The ladies serving at Breakfast was very friendly and they do work very hard. The owner was very rude and drunk most nights.( think he is in the wrong Job) Will not returning.

"Good value. No frills but clean."
Cannot fault the cleanliness of the room. Bathroom tiny but clean, with hot water and good shower. Room was ready when we arrived and breakfast was very good. Parking no problem and five minute walk to Torquay. A little quiet and pub below was empty when we returned at 10 o clock but would have been ok if people had used it. Breakfast staff very helpful.

"It's fine...."
It's fine, we stayed after a wedding so needed a room to sleep. Sadly bit of confusion on check in, due to an admin error their end which was all politely sorted. Very clean, although very cluttered in common areas - old furniture and beer barrels. Staff all seem to be family and are very nice. Only real down side is we stayed in room 11 the shower was so hot on the lowest setting I couldn't get in it, and the sink plug didn't hold water, bit hard to get clean which is a generally must have in a hotel. Breakfast very nice. For the price in high season it's fine. But might be a bit of a let down if you're staying a full week and not just a place to lay your squiffy head.

This was a case of the hotel being less impressive than the pictures. Whilst I cannot fault the cleanliness of the room or the comfort of the bed the hotel was not up to the standard we were expecting. The public areas including reception are tired and in need of redecoration. There certainly appears to be work being done but you don't expect to see materials discarded at the side or in the garden of the hotel. It could be a gem due to look of exterior, and location but at the moment in need of some serious rejuvenation.

Have no issues with the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms but security was an issue. As three women travelling together it was a surprise to us when a strange man entered our room while we were in it as he had been issued with an electronic key to our room by mistake. This made us uneasy all night. We received no apology from management.

Overall I was really pleased with the hotel and thought it was excellent value for money, especially with such a great location. Our room was a fantastic size and had a big window with lots of light. The bed was very comfortable and I had a better night's sleep than at home! Everything was clean and tidy the staff were very friendly and approachable. I only have a couple of small points that might be worth considering; the service at breakfast could be tidied up a little and the ironing boards and irons possibly need some attention, however neither of these compromised the quality of our stay. I would happily book this hotel again and make greater use of the bar and pool!

Our room was clean and quiet. Good room amenities. Breakfast was yummy. Hotel is easy walking distance to downtown. The internet availability was great...thank you so much. But,...the bed was quite hard, the bathroom was so small you could not dry off without hitting the walls, and the hotel public areas looked like there was unpacking of hotel supplies continuously. However, hotel owners were friendly and helpful.

"Absolutely Fantastic!"
Our stay at Yardley Manor could not have been better. All staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. Our trip away was to celebrate a 30th Birthday, upon arrival, the room was decorated with balloons and banners which I had posted, we also had a bottle of bubbly on the house. The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable. There was some building work being done which was purely cosmetic and did not effect our stay what so ever. Breakfast was lovely and the price of drinks was very reasonable. I will be returning to this hotel without a doubt! It is in a fantastic location, just a few minutes walk from the town centre. I would highly recommend this hotel and would like to thank all the staff for making our stay so lovely.

"Was this the inspiration for "Fawlty Towers""
Not as described on the web site.the room was small with dated,scratched furniture,drab wallpaper.The sash windows were cracked,rattled in the breeze and the frame of one window was broken.The TV was ancient and to get it to work was worthy of a Krypton Factor challenge.Had to turn the only radiator in the room on as it was turned off and the room was freezing.The carpets throughout the hotel were stained,dirty and threadbare in places.There were no shower mats in the tiny en-suite and one of the soap dispensers leaked continuously,the shower height could not be adjusted,just flopped to the lowest position,took ages for the hot water to run.Had to ask for our room to be cleaned and tea making facilities topped up as the staff either forgot or just didn't care.The service at breakfast was slow and the "Full English" was anything but,tiny portions.On the whole ,my wife and I were thoroughly disappointed with our stay and would not give it our recommendation.

The room was cold, poorly maintained and all electrics were being run from trailing gang sockets. I had to leave at 8.00 in the morning to arrive at the scheduled meeting that I was in the area to attend and breakfast was not possible before 8.30. Not impressed at all

"Convenient to all amenities"
The owners kindly upgraded us to a superior room free of charge with flowers and champagne because it was our anniversary. The room was comfortable, clean and the bed enormous and very comfortable. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very nice. Good location, everything you could posssibly want was within walking distance. I was very impressed with the variety of restaurants close by. I chose this hotel because I wanted to stay somewhere more traditional and not ultra modern, so dont expect a 4 star hotel. It is a bit rough round the edges throughout the rest of the hotel but repairs were being undertaken while we were there but didn't disturb us in any way. Overall we were very happy with our 2 night stay, the staff were very obliging and friendly it had everything we needed.
