"Nice stop if driving California"
We were driving from San Francisco and got as far as San Luis obispo. The Sands hotel was very comfy and clean and the continental breakfast was a good standard.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfy bed, not so great shower"
I spent 5 nights there and the room was comfortable and clean except the bathroom really needed updating - fiberglass corner shower was pretty old and the bathroom window didn't lock. I thought about asking for a different room, but didnt so I don't know if this is common or not.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good deal for the price."
Staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for an affordable place to stay and not looking for luxury, I would recommend the Sands Inn. Our room was clean and comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A welcome relief from the road!"
I've stayed many times at this hotel and this is the first time that I've left a review. I made my reservation only 1 day in advance and they were able to accommodate my need for a 1st floor room and permission to let my small dog stay also. The staff also authorized an early check-in. The room was recently remodeled, very clean and comfortable. The […] breakfast was substantial and the staff professional and personable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We always love staying @ the Sands & do every year. This year however the rooms etc were much improved but we left a wallet & gift accidentally & they reported it not turned in? And the breakfast service was below its previous standard.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Cal Poly campus."
Very clean and appears recently renovated. Hotel staff were professional. Plenty of parking, including some covered parking.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Sand Inn in SLO"
It was convenient location to Cal-Poly!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
EVERYTHING WAS GREAT, WAS PLEASANTLY SUPRISED AT THE FREE BREAKFAST. STAFF WAS GREATGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Cal-Poly"
Only complaint is beds are bit hard. Otherwise great hotel and I would stay here againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Better than expected"
Don't expect to get a real workout in at the fitness area; there are just a couple iso. machines and a broken treadmill. The complimentary breakfast is pretty standard, but there is a waffle maker. I was pleasantly surprised to find a flat screen TV in my room (not shown in the hotel photos). There rooms are clean and comfortable with an understandably […] outdated bathroom, given the price range. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpriced. I thought we were at a Motel 6."
Overpriced. Uncomfortable. Ugly. I will never stay there again. It was my first time staying in SLO & after driving around there are plenty of better hotels to choose from.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean & Easy"
We had a great experience (visiting Cal Poly with my daughter)...the room was clean, large, and quiet...the free dvd library was a wonderful surprise, as was the complimentary breakfast (with make-your-own-waffle-bar) Friendly staff, and close to all. Thanks for the good time!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to downtown and the univ"
Just average. Hotel price matched neighboring hotels. .. but high for a smaller city. Hot breakfast was very typical and just ok. They offer free dvd rentals to watch with your in room dvd player. Some conveniences for charging cell phones in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and Basic"
Nice, clean and comfortable hotel. Nice toiletries. Not a luxury hotel - but perfect for a one-night stay before attending open house at Cal Poly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is quaint, clean and affordable.. The walls are a little thin, so you can here the next rooms TV going... But all and all it was quiet and most of all clean ...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"enjoyed my stay"
Was givin the honeymoon siute and was very pleased. It was clean comfy and relaxing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, but would stay somewhere else next time."
Reasonable, but not for the price. The breakfast was awful! Eggs overcooked, no half and half for coffee, and no salt and pepper! In edible! Bathroom was really small and room was really outdated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Really nice, cute room, pool, hot tub, as nice as much more expensive rooms elsewhere.Genuine Expedia guest review
I liked the Sands Inn because it was close to SLO and CalPoly. I got the room at a great rate (sale) and felt it was 100% worth the money. It had a nice breakfast in the morning included in price. My kids liked the breakfast too. I would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very friendly staff, nice breakfast. Heated pool, hot tub was nice too . nothing fancy, but very enjoyable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and close to down town"
Breakfast was decent. Waffle maker is always a plus. Just over a mile walk to downtown. We arrived by train so walking was not a problem. The room was small, bed was very comfortable, bathroom was small- shower only.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Dated and ants everywhere"
Hotel needs updating! The beds are old and really uncomfortable. Our bathroom had sugar ants everywhere, we couldn't leave anything in the bathroom. The breakfast was ok if all you want is a muffin or cereal. The eggs were cold and nasty both days.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good Room and Service--watch out for tiny shower!"
Enjoyed my stay--good hot breakfast, nice place, good customer service. Guess the bargain rate gets you a good sized room but the shower is very tiny--can barely turn around in it. If they somehow make them bigger the Sands Inn may be worthy of 5 stars!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"good accommodation for reasonable price"
For what you pay, it had everything you needed. Obviously not a luxury hotel, but everything was in working order and kept clean. Hotel receptionist provided helpful information and was friendly. It was right next to Cal Poly, where we needed to go, so it was a very convenient location for us.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and convenient to downtown SLO."
Pleasant place to stay and pretty affordable price when compared to other hotels in the surrounding area. Staff was nice and give you fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Rooms are comfortable and place is quite.Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall, we had a good experience in this hotel. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, and the location was perfect (close to Cal Poly and not far from downtown). My major complaint was the shower--the whole time both my husband and I were using the shower, the temperature of the water kept going way up and way down. It was enough to make showering […] uncomfortable. We had friends in another room and they had the same complaint. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
bed was large and comfortable. didn't hear anyone above or next to us. had a pool and spa and a great breakfast. large seating area and plenty of breakfast optionsGenuine Expedia guest review
I read the reviews first and I was iffie, but once I got there I was very pleased with the room and how clean it was. The guy in the front desk was busy in the back so that kinda sucked waiting For him, they should put a bell on the counter just incase that happens to someone else to get there attention. But room was cozy, clean, nice Downtown was close […] and neighborhood was quiet. Good experience, I would book again . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good pet friendly environment."
I was happy with my stay. I always appreciate when pets are welcome. The only thing I did not like to see was some long hair on the bathroom floor. I know it was mopped, and it is hard to get every strand of hair. Otherwise it was a good place to stay. I would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pet friendly but smells like dog"
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was what you would expect. The condition of the hotel is OK, but bare bones and certainly shabby in places. I came with my small dog and was happy that this is a pet friendly hotel. I gladly paid an extra $25 to bring the dog. Unfortunately, though the room looked OK, it smelled like stinky […] dog.The bath tub had dirt residue which seemed really gross--made me wonder if anyone had cleaned the room after the last guest! I chose not to use the shower. I was visiting a student at Cal Poly and was happy with the location, but I think I paid too much for what I got and probably won't return. Warm chocolate chip cookies and warm smiles greeted us. Rooms were ready and clean. We had one person in the party unable to handle her luggage and the young man behind the desk immediately offered to handle it. Easy off/on 101 and restaurants nearby. Perfect for our needs in every way.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to Cal Poly"
Nice hotel, close to campus, clean and quiet. Full breakfast included. Will definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient but not comfy"
Hairs around sink are a bad sign. The thin walls and conversation in the next room that went on until 10:00 pm were not goof either.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Maintenance Required in the Room"
First, the drapes in our room facing the street didn't work. The outer drapes were controlled controlled by a motor, but the motor was burnt. Inner drapes were manually controlled, but didn't close all the way so they gave us safety pins to keep lights/noise out. Secondly, the shower lever in the bathroom tub couldn't be pulled all the way, so we had […] low pressure from the shower head while rest of the water was coming out of the faucet. The sink drain in the bedroom was also clogged..... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Central to SLO"
Came to visit my sister at Cal Poly SLO and the hotel was right next to campus. Very convenient making multiple runs to and from campus. Quiet, no hwy noise. The only thing was a noisy refrigerator. So tired from hiking the entire time, that i didnt hear it the 2nd night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice and clean smelling rooms. Beds are on the firm side. Fridge and microwave in every room. Hot tub and pool open long hours. Overall very happy with hotel. Oh btw waffles made with free breakfast!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not used to so pleasant an experience.."
To the many who, like me, have experienced such woeful Inn's, through the years, this Inn was a refreshing example of the good in this world. From the perspective of an old man whose life lessons have taught him to part from his hard earned shekels with the reluctance of knowing they are irreplaceable and, in retirement, fast dwindling, I was fortunate […] to have tried Hotels.com and trusted the reviews about the Sands Inn. The Manager, Jason, took me to be an old friend. There were many courtesies extended me, not only by Jason, but, over the two days and nights of my stay, by every single member of the Sands Inn's staff; including the exceedingly pleasant lady who manages the extraordinary cleanliness and up keep of the Inns rooms. We've all had various offerings of "a free breakfast", but not like "their breakfasts". You'll see. I asked if this Inn was a "chain". The answer surprised me greatly. Not only is it not a chain, but the owner, who was away on business during my stay, shows up to work every single day. I realize that by writing such an accommodating review lessens our chance of the Sands Inn being available on dotcom sites because of people who will inevitably re-book as well as spread the news of so good a place, however, there are just so many places that a man can recommend for the safety and contentment of women and children, families and the elderly. This is such a place. Happy Trails and God’s good grace to all. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"clean, friendly, and reliable"
Overall I was really happy with my stay. My husband and I stayed with our 9 year old and he loved that he got the free, cookie at check in and that there were movies to pick from. The staff was very friendly. The room was very clean. The breakfast offered more than any other breakfast I've ever gotten for free. If you want more or something different […] you should just go out and pay for it. The TV was a bit weird with limited channels. The pool was clean and well heated so we were able to swim at night instead. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel is easy to get too close to 101 and downtown, the service is way above 5 stars and the breakfast was an awesome way to start the day fresh you make waffles eggs and sausage with great coffee.Rooms are spacious and clean alitte outdated but great none the less and free DVD rental overall this is my choice when I return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel close to downtown and Cal Poly"
Very nice staff!! always available and serviced minded.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very nice place to stay. Good breakfast choices, hot and cold offerings and juices. Hot tub was great and pool is heated. Only negative item is noises. We could hear people taking outside and there was a vey irritating humming sound that kept us awake. It sounded like an electrical type hum. This would not necessarily impact rooms in another location. […] The staff was very efficient, friendly and answered whatever questions we had Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Walls are paper thin. We could hear the elevator all night long. Construction still happening and it was noisy.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Sands Inn & Suites Greetings, I think you may be describing another hotel ... The Sands Inn & Suites does not have an elevator, nor are we under construction. Regards, Matthew F. Wilkins General Manager Sands Inn & Suites
"Almost retro, but not on purpose."
The Sands is on hotel row in San Luis Obispo, surrounded by older and newer places. You could probably do better than this hotel. We got the room in the worst place, something that happens too frequently with reserving through Expedia. Turns out, it was very quiet in Siberia, as long as you were up before the hotel laundry started directly below. Furnishings […] were nice once, but well worn now. The pool wasn't heated and the deck around it was crumbling. A bit shoddy for the price. Breakfast was nice, thoughtfully presented, and featured more things than the usual place. Response by Sands Inn & Suites Hello Carl, Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate your candor and will use your observations to improve. You mentioned that you felt your room was in an undesirable location due it to being reserved through Expedia. I want you to know that we do not treat reservations made through sites like Expedia any differently than those booked directly. I am sorry that the sound from our laundry room was disturbing. We are happy to offer alternate rooms if the one presented is found to be unsatisfactory for any reason. If no suitable room can be found, we will refund your money and do everything we can to help you find comfortable accommodations. Something to keep in mind if you ever pass through our hotel again, which we hope you do. Thank you again for the review, Matthew F. Wilkins General Manager Sands Inn & Suites
Our room was clean and comfortable, if a bit small. The shower had an issue with the valve that diverts water up to the shower head. You had to pull up on it really hard, and the bath spout was very loose from people doing that. When I alerted the person at the front desk about this, she sounded sincerely concerned and said she'd send a maintenance […] person to investigate. The breakfast was pretty good, with things like eggs, sausage, cereals, breads and waffle makers. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A reasonably priced good place to stay in SLO"
We picked a suite for this stay and it was comfortable and relatively large. The bedroom could be closed off from the living room with the bath in between. The hotel appears to be dog friendly, having seen a number going in and out of some rooms. They have a pretty nice spread for breakfast-- make your own waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, OJ, […] cereals, coffee, tea, fruit, etc. We had two relatively minor problems -- the antenna cable in the bedroom TV was broken and one of the motors to open the bedroom draperies was not working -- a bit of an issue since they covered the 20 foot tall windows. Not really spending much time in the room during the day, this did not detract from the visit. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
