Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm chocolate chip cookies. Great way to start! Our room was ready for us. We requested a roll-away bed and the manager brought it to us right away. Room was clean and organized, but just ordinary and a little out-dated. Found the bed to be too firm for my liking. Good place for us for just one night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"quiet hide a way"
Was a little disappointed in the hotel as we pulled in..but the service and breakfast and quietness of the place was all very charming. For the price , I would definitely stay here again. Shower pressure was great. It is not Embassy Suites...but we paid half the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No sleep night"
I think parts of the hotel/motel are older buildings redone. While it looks okay the walls between the rooms were never insulated for noise. Our bed was right next to the one next door and unfortunately he/she was a snorer. It felt as that person was in our room, consequently we got hardly any sleep that night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Pet Friendly"
Room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was better than we expected. Very pet friendly, we would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A good place to stay"
Clean, quiet, friendly & helpful. The free breakfast is adequate, but nothing to sing about. Staff very friendly & helpful. Booking was easy. We stay here about once a year.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was good. Clean. Toilets flush very loud. Walls are very thin, can hear showers, toilets, people talking. Liked the two sinks. Very close to Cal Poly campus. Good breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fine for the price."
The desk clerk when we arrived was outstanding (a recent grad of Cal Poly). Promptly brought us a needed roll-away bed and extra blankets, and gave good info about the Farmer's Market and the town. The room was fine - small, but clean. Only real negatives - the heater was huge and noisy, the wall around the heater in the bathroom was coming apart, and […] the shower head was defective and too low. Didn't check out the pool or spa. It was fine for an overnight visit to Cal Poly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Right near Cal Poly Campus"
I've stayed there a number of times and like this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to Cal Poly"
Staff was very helpful. Hotel is just a few minutes from the Cal Poly campus. Good restaurants within walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This aged motel is badly in need of maintenance. I was told that several rooms were not assignable because some element didn't work. It took three tries before we were assigned a room in which the heater actually worked. The WiFi was so weak that it would not support a Skype call. And so on. This was the first and last visit for us.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wanted to pay less and got it - inexpensive, convenient but frumpy and frill-less. My wife wouldn't have liked it but things were clean enough.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Quiet, comfortable and quaint. I also got a couple of movies to watch that night. Need I say more.Genuine Expedia guest review
"just travelin' through"
Greeted in a very comfortable manner. No complaints about the room. Street fair was quite entertaining. Continental breakfast hit the spot. Would stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice place to stay"
Nice best describes just about all facets of our brief stay. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. They were quick to offer any help we needed on where to find everything from the Mission to wine tasting guides. The room was very clean and comfortable. Definitely worth the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and comfortable for the price"
Our stay was for 3 days for our son's graduation. We have stayed here before, and were very pleased, therefore recommended it to our family members, who were also coming in for the gradutation. Overall, our stay was good, however there were a few things that had not been taken care of in our room. The coffee pot didn't work. After placing a note on […] it, the pot was taken away, but not replaced. The iron didn't work, which would have been nice to freshen up my son's graduation gown. Also, the refridgerator was not working. All of these things were not a huge issue, but should have been checked by the staff. For the price of this hotel, it is nice, and the continental breakfast that is available is also nice (alot of selection, and kept supplied well). We will stay here again if our travels bring us back to SLO. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Sands Hotel is no frills but is comfortable for an overnight stay. Free WiFi, free parking, free breakfast with waffles and fresh fruit, coffee and juice. What more can you ask for! The beds are a little hard but the rooms are clean!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly staff, good locationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A low end stay at a average price"
While this hotel was rated a 2 1/2, I think it was actually lower. I did not have any soap or hair dryer in the room. Heater was very noisy. The interior furnishings were worn. OK, but I would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good price for what you get"
This was our third stay. It's just an ordinary hotel. Not fancy, but clean and comfortable. The morning breakfast is fine too. I'd stay there again for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
comfortable, convenient, friendly staffGenuine Hotels.com guest review
very goodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Convenient location in SLO and staff very helpful. Morning breakfast very good. Rooms are getting a little old and shower is definitly only built for only one :). Pricing was reasonable for the area. I'd use again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice people but the rooms Needs upgrading.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basic and reasonable"
Only thing that I would point out is that there is no electrical outlet near the desk. I wanted to work on my computer but had to jerry rig a way.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Functional - could have used more than the 2 pillows providedGenuine Expedia guest review
"Marginal for the price"
Complimentary breakfast was poor. Cereal was ok, coffee ok. The room itself was ok, but bathroom, shower were small. Complimentary dvds are a nice touch.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nothing fancy or special about the stay. Looked and felt more like a motel rather than a hotel and overpriced for the quality of the room. My wife and I don't think we'll stay here again. We only stayed overnight on our way to San Francisco.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Update needed please!"
Good size room but sorely in need of an update. Furnishings and carpet; old, old, old. As with most old hotels the smell of pyrocantha was present but way too strong. Bed was surprisingly comfortable. Shower was nice but the shower head needed replacement. Staff and management were very attentive and professional. Nice pool. Mixed review for sure but […] overall an acceptable facility. Will return once renovations are completed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dog and people friendly"
The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. They have nice little perks like a DVD player in rooms and large selection of DVDs to check out at front desk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Location on a main street in San Louis Obispo"
Nice breakfast area and offerings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was very friendly and concerned about our having a nice stay with them. We take many trips to San Luis Obispo during the year. My grandson attends Cal Poly. We will definitely be staying at the Sands in the future. The place we have always stayed at in the past has developed a "don't care" attitude. Glad we tried the Sands. Thank you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Took daughter to visit college"

"Great hotel for anyone!"
We had a great experience at this hotel. The check-in was efficient. The clerk was friendly and very helpful. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The room had a coffee maker, microwave and a small refrigerator. We would definitely return to this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ok for a short stay."
Old and worn but clean. Certainly overpriced for the condition of the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Mattress very uncomfortable, towels thread bare, bare minimum, tub filled up during shower, faucet had only cold water, breakfast was white, and then they charged additional $ for poss amenities or damage! Way over priced!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to Cal Poly"
Hotel staff is very nice, very accommodating to our needs. We requested a room on the first floor and quiet which they were able to do. Breakfast was filling and they never ran out of food. Constantly refilling everything. The only suggestion I would give them is have a smoking section as the person next door walked out their door and smoked which was […] irritating, the air conditioner was very loud, and it would be nice to have scrambled eggs. They had potatoes and sausage but only hard boiled eggs. Also had waffles, yogurt, muffins, scones, etc... overall a comfortable place to stay for the money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very comfortable. Free DVD, breakfast, cookies, and WiFi are good reasons to stay here!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"SLO on the go"
The Sands is great for a quick stop in SLO. The refridgerator was noisy and the shower was on the small size. The staff was helpful and friendly the place was clean and fresh smellingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great location and great service."
i am a return customer, but haven't written a review yet. my family or myself has stayed at the Sands at least 6 times over the years i went to cal poly. everyone there is really nice and the contintenal breakfast is something i look forward to.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
great size in rooms, beautiful breakfast, employees were a joy, central locationGenuine Expedia guest review
"quaint and close to town"
A quaint little hotel not too far from downtown. The cable television leaves MUCH to be desired, so make sure you have lots to do outside of your room. They do have DVD players in each room though, so that's a plus. Either bring your own DVDs or rent one from the front office. Breakfast was good, staff was friendly, room was nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"ok hotel , in a good lication"
the room was ok ,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The ice machine was broken. I should of requested a room downstairs as i had to bring the luggage upstairs and i had just had back surgery.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Solid family place"
Stopped in SLO overnight on our way to Cambria. Close to downtown but far off enough as to not get caught up in the Thursday night Farmers Market traffic, which is amazing btw. Checked in and was greeted by very friendly staff, one of which complimented my Iron Maiden shirt! Gave us the usual rundown of the hotel amenities, very thorough. Pool area […] was clean and room key protected, the kids loved it. Bedroom was clean and comfortable. Kids took full advantage of the DVD player. 2 sinks in bathroom area great for speeding up morning rituals. Continental breakfast has a bit more than the usual muffins and bagels. Cereal, sausage patties, country style potatoes and a waffle maker. All made for a happy family. Quick easy check out. Would definetly stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient one-night stay in SLO"
Nice place; would stay again; most rooms in 2-story buildings. We were on bottom floor; very little noise from top floor (even though the place appeared full). There are about 8, queen-sized rooms in single story building which you can request (no separate sink from toilet/shower). Did not try breakfast though it looked nice. Likewise the pool (which […] we would have tried had we not been out so late). Quick and easy drive into downtown. A half-dozen or more other motels are in the same block.
