"Times Square Nugget"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed for a week and were glad to find a hotel right in the heart of Times Square. The service was definitely top notch! The front desk was courteous and the concierge was very helpful, recommending great shows and restaurants. Our room was nice. It could've been a little larger. But the bathroom was a good size and the size of the TV's and the fact that they played HD was a bonus. Also, the bed was quite comfortable. The cleaning staff did a fine job of keeping up the room. I'll definitely recommend this hotel to others.
"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.

We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.
""Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012

"Great Boutique Hotel"
I was very happy with the GEM Hotel and our room. I don't like big hotel chains, and this was nice and original. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was small, but well appointed and clean. I especially liked the contemporary layout and bathroom. The view of 23rd ST was magnificent (4th floor). Overall very happy - would stay there […] again, and would recommend it to anyone. Read more
"Dolly may want to rethink this one."
I wouldn't advise staying here unless you are in your 20's and ready to party. A glorified boutique hotel that is not worth it's rating. Bathrooms have been partially renovated but early 90's feel throughout. I do not recommend.
"Smallest room ever!"
This hotel is located in a great location! There are stores, restaurants, shops all within walking distance. We were able to walk to the meat-packing district in about 10 minutes. The hotel itself is clean and modern. As for the room, while I was prepared for a small room based on the reviews, I was SHOCKED at just how small the room actually was. My […] college dorm room was bigger. While we were suppose to have a queen bed, I'm certain it was a full size, which made sleeping for two adults not so comfortable. Let me emphasize this room is SMALL and I would not recommend for more than one person. I'm a female w/sz 10 feet and I measured the room with my feet and took 12 steps from the door of the hotel to the window. I'm not exaggerating. And mind you, there was a very narrow (2 steps wide) opening in which I was able to walk those 12 steps. I wish the other reviews had mentioned this. Again, fine for 1 person, def. not 2. People were friendly. Read more

"Excellent property"
You can reach this hotel for $7.25 from JFK Airport via the AirTrain and the MTA's E Train. Takes about an hour, but drops you off one short block from the hotel. Rooms are small but quite comfortable. Best to think of it as a bedroom with a bath. No rooms with two beds. If the weather is good, be sure to check out the rooftop patio. Quite spacious […] with a million dollar view of the Empire State Building. Read more

1 response by GEM Hotel - Chelsea, an Ascend Collection Hotel"Early check-in fail"
I booked this room because the woman on the phone assured me that I would be able to check-in at 8am when I got in from my red-eye. I desperately needed to a room to get showered and ready because I had meetings all day. Low and behold, when I arrived I was told there were no rooms available and then had to wait 1.5hrs before getting checked-in even […] though there had been a steady flow of check-outs from the moment I had arrived. There is no way it takes 1.5 hrs to clean a room.... Read more
"Thrifty & a little sexy"
These small rooms have everything for an overnight- any longer and you'd miss things like a chair... But super clean and stylish without pretentions. Concierge was a real sweetie and KNEW practical things .
"The GEM Hotel, Chelsea, NYC"
The hotel was in a perfect loaction for us as everywhere we needed to be was within a 15-20 minute walking distance. The staff were very helpful, pleasant, and friendly, especially when I require hypoallergetic bedding. They were more than happy to accommodate. The room was small with just enough walking space around the bed. Perfect for us as we […] were hardly in the room and were only staying one night. But I wouldn't reccomend it to couples/familes staying more than 2 nights. My only complaint would be that the bed was not very comfortable, a little too soft for my liking but then again everyone is different. The bathroom/shower was brilliant! Massive mirror, great sized shower. Nothing better than waking up to a hot, powerful shower. Very, very clean! We also took advantage of their "luggage storage" ammenity on the day we checked out. Nothing worse than having to drag your cases along the streets of Manhattan. Overall we had a fab time at The GEM Hotel. We would definitely stay there again! Read more

This hotel was okay. We paid a decent amount for it and the room was small and smelled like paint. Also, very easy to hear people in the hallway and when they entered/left their rooms. I know people complain about that stuff, but seriously, I live in an apartment, I'm used to hearing other people coming and going, but this felt like they were in the […] room with us. Overall, its an okay hotel, but I would never stay there again. Too many other choices. Read more

"perfect hotel in Chelsea"
Very stylish contemporary design, minimal but enough in amenities, a great place for my occasional overnights in NYC. I was very happy the last time I stayed there.
"GEM Hotel Chelsea, Great value, comfort & location"
small rooms but well designed with everything necessary accomodated. Comfy bed, bathrobe, ipod player, huge TV, etc... Nice turn down service with H2O as well. Good Chelsea location within walking distance of the Village and MidTown.
"Wonderful option in Chelsea"
Rooms are modern but on the small side. Staff was very friendly and even gave me a free gift for the holidays. Great location with lots nearby including subway, restaurants and movie theater. I even had a view of the Empire State Building from my window. The only negative was the windows were left open a crack prior to my arrival and it took a little […] while to figure out why it was so drafty! Read more

The sheets on the bed were torn from use, there was what appears to be a cigaret burn that went through to be mattress pad -- it was clean, but... shame, shame -- nice, clean, convenient spot, but please get new linens!! "Place to stay in Chelsea"
Staff was very helpful with recommendations, and accommodating my odd times for arrival/departure. I did think it a bit pricey, but then I don't normally stay in NY. Otherwise, I thought everything was exactly what I needed. I know I will stay there again when I go back to the area.
Thank you so much for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to your next visit to the big apple! Have a wonderful winter!
1 response by GEM Hotel - Chelsea, an Ascend Collection Hotel"Convenient Holiday Stay"
For what I needed (a cheap stay in a nice area), this hotel was great. The staff was professional and enthusiastic, rooms small but had everything you need with cool features. This place can give you the feeling your staying at a hotel, or living in an apartment.
"Good not great"
For the location and in the Chelsea neighborhood this hotel was a good value, but there were definitely some things to note. It is located on the corner of 22nd and 8th Ave which makes for a very noisy night if you are in a room facing 8th. The bathroom was not very clean upon check-in. There was still a lot of hair from the previous guest in the […] shower and on the floor. Issues with the bathroom sink. Drain wouldn't open or pipe was clogged, but there was standing water in my sink for 2 days. The gym is very small. It is one treadmill, one bike, one exercise ball and one set of dumbbells with a bench. I would likely stay here again if the rate was as good as it was for this stay and because of the neighborhood, but I would shop around for better options first. Read more

But the experience of staying there was great -- location, gym, price, staff. Will definitely stay there again.
If your looking for a clean, comfortable and moderately priced boutique hotel in the city look no further. The GEM is appropriately named because it is just that. From the friendly staff even the guests create you with a smile. I've traveled around world and I speak from experience that the GEM truly sparkles amongst other boutique hotels. Perfectly […] located in Chelsea The GEM is walking distance to great eateries and only a short inexpensive cab ride to most tourist attractions in the city. Many reviews gave poor marks on the size of the rooms. Indeed the rooms are quite small but keep in mind it is considered a boutique hotel nestled in a city none for maximizing small space. If you book this hotel with that in mind you will not be disappointed. I recommend staying just a couple a days as the size can become a nusaunce after awhile especially if you're not traveling alone. I would highly recommend thi hotel to friends and family. I look forward to my next visit. Now that I think about it. I should written a bad review in hopes it would keep people away and I'll have it all to myself...hahaha! Read more
"Gem Hotel- clean, convenient but very small room"
Everything is fine about this hotel. However, if you have a great deal of luggage or plan to stay long or spend a lot of time in your room, not for you. Room very small; bathroom almost as large. great for a couple of nights or if you're not spending any time in your room.
"Thanksgiving NYC"
Terrific little place in a wonderful neighborhood. Rooms are small but they have everything you need, they are modern and environmentally concise. Comfy bed. Showers with plenty of hot water and great pressure. Small workout facility and room top access are great amenities. Staff is friendly and helpful. Free wifi and lots for techy amenities including […] texts twice a day with interesting local places to check out and ipods loaded with walking tours of the city neighborhoods that you can borrow for free - didn't try them, know the city well but great little perk if you don't. Neighborhood is lovely - great places to eat and shop. Close to subway and Hi Line Park makes it easy to get around and little zaney then Times Square/Mid-town hotels. Read more

"Gem Hotel in NYC"
Terrific stay in the Gem Hotel. Rooms were small but that's NYC but very clean and had everything we needed. Staff was attentive and can't beat the location
"GEM for this neighborhood"
I needed a room for one night near a Gallery which was hosting an opening for a friend. Quick in and out. Room was modern, all the needed goodies, bathroom modern well fitted out - all the size of a postage stamp - but what more did I need? I would stay here again....

"Clean, well-kept, but small"
The hotel was clean and the hotel staff were very friendly. The rooms and hotel in general have the amenities that most travelers require. The one draw back is that the rooms are very small. There is not much else in the room besides the bed. If you can handle a very small room then I would recommend this hotel. The location is excellent.
Thank you so much for your review! We're happy you enjoyed your stay in the big apple! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Safe travels and have a wonderful day!

1 response by GEM Hotel - Chelsea, an Ascend Collection Hotel"teensy-tiny rooms"
I have stayed in many NYC hotels and yes, rooms are generally small. This room was a closet. No space at all- you have to shimmy around the bed or walk on it to get from the closet to the bathroom. Not good for more than one very small person. And not worth the price.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us as it is extremely apprecciated. We apologize if the room size was not up to your standard however I would love to suggest our penthouse suite for your next visit. Our Penthouse Suite is our largest room and has its own balcony terrace with and a breathtaking view of the empire state building. We look forward to your return and cannot wait for you to see our penthouse!

"Nice boutique hotel in a fun neighborhood"
If you're looking for something a little different the next time you stay in NYC, this is a great hotel. It's a boutique, so the style points are high while the costs are low, but the service is top notch. The neighborhood is great for access to bars, restaurants, and other NYC nightlife, yet is close enough to Penn Station, midtown, and downtown to […] make it convenient for business travelers. Room was tiny and I am used to small NYC hotel rooms. Ended up paying more than I normally would due to last minute schedule change. So not worth that kind of money. Really wanted to like it becasue of the great location. Staff was pleasant though and hotel well kept.
"Poor beding"
The bed was really uncomfortable. The pilling rough bed sheets, that needed to be replace long time ago.
Nice clean hotel. Friendly staff. Free WiFi But VERY small rooms. Too small for two people.

"Total NYC Hotel: Small but Charming and Perfect"
Here's the thing: NYC is a bit tight on space. That said, the GEM Hotel in Chelsea maximized their tiny rooms. Their bathrooms are awesome and they are conscious of saving the world by having shower gel and shampoo in dispensers in the shower, rather than in small disposable bottles. Close to Penn Station and the subway, not to mention in Chelsea, […] which is a great 'hood. Great hotel. Read more
"Generally gracious, helpful staff made one mistake"
We would have had no complaints except , when we first arrived, our room was not made up.
