Great place to stay. Comfortable, great staff and great food. Only complaint would be they could use a larger common area if guests want to read books or play games.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful is an understatement"

I was so pleasantly surprised and delighted when we drove onto the grounds. The web page does not do this place justice..The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and just about perfect.. The staff went out of their way to help us as we arrived late and had to take our motorcycles off the trailer. We stayed in the Blacksmith's Shop cabin and were blown away by the attention to detail. I am usually not a B&B fan but this place is my new favorite spot.. Breakfasts were inventive and above all absolutely delicious.. I would give this place an A++++.

I decided to surprise my Lady for a weekend stay at Highlands NC. It was a last minute plan. At first we could not find vacancy and we're told this is high season. That did not sound too promising. I was so determined to make it happen and googled B&B listings . I came across The Inn At Half Mile Farm. I spoke with Vivian. She was outstanding , and helped me with the reservation. I was so happy that they had a room for us. Vivian asked me if we had any food allergies. We communicated to her that we are on a Paleo diet . For those that are not familiar with Paleo diet , the protocol calls for " no grains whatsoever " Before you know it Jason the chef called us couple of days prior to us taking our trip and started asking questions regarding our dietary restrictions and took a sincere interest to accommodate us. Meanwhile as a means to have readily available snacks to munch on during the trip , we brought our cooler with us. Seeing that we were arriving late, we realized the ice packs would not hold and keep the food over nite. We called the Inn to communicate our late arrival. Jason advised us that he would wait for us, no matter how late we arrived and pack all our food in the fridge at the Inn. Jason truly impressed us with his professional approach and his sincere cooperation throughout our stay. He prepared breakfast for us and delivered it to our room with a smile. He also used to prepare our snacks every day and surprised us with a nice decorative plate and beautiful presentation. Wendy the owner was very warm and hospitable . Made us feel at home. Carol was so nice as well and made sure we were comfortable and coordinated our room to be clean and fresh. Housekeeping did a great job as well. Our room was beautiful, we overlooked a valley of trees. All the amenities were presented with style and nice color coordination. The grounds are beautiful and so well manicured. We were surrounded by nature, flowers , butterflies , birds, trees. Just gorgeous. Not to mention the pond. We are very thankful for a wonderful stay. Will let you decide if we recommend The Inn At Half Mile Farm or not :)

Stayed here about 10 years ago and loved it- decided on a whim to go back for a weekend. The property itself is not only beautifully kept but also inviting. The staff is absolutely top notch from the five star chef, Jason to Vivian to the housekeeping staff. The food is incredible as well. We met some really nice and interesting people at the five o'clock wine and hors d'Oeuvres that the hotel has every evening. The setting is very peaceful and quaint yet you are only about 3-5 minutes to the center of town. Our room was just fantastic too- we love this place.

My husband and I met my parents for the weekend at this lovely and charming Inn last weekend. We had no expectations and were more than pleasantly surprised at the rooms, the grounds and the wonderful staff. What a beautiful place to get away from it all. I had called earlier to ask if they would have almond or soy milk since I have a dairy allergy. I was assured they would and left it at that. When we checked in, the chef, Jason, sought us out and asked me several questions about my allergy and proceeded to make special appetizers and meals that I could eat. I felt so well cared for and it made me appreciate this beautiful inn even more. Thank you to all of the staff for a wonderful weekend. We cannot wait to come back!

My wife and I stayed at The Inn at Half-Mile Farm over the July 4th weekend. It was our first time to visit the amazing bed and breakfast, but it definitely won't be our last! We stayed in room #2 in the main house. The staff is so welcoming and helpful. AMAZING breakfast both mornings. Skip the high end hotels and enjoy this amazing gem five minutes out of town. It's the little things like the cocktail hour with beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres each evening or the 24 hours access to free waters, sodas and snacks that put this over the top.

This place is the best. Scenic quiet tranquil. Best service ever - and the breakfast was fabulous. The room was so spacious and to be able to sleep with the windows open in July was heaven. The pond and ability to fish was an added bonus! And they are fur friendly-

We stayed in room 18 and it was absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The food was fantastic starting with checking in with the great homemade cookies, the afternoon wine and appetizers. We can't say enough about the gourmet breakfast. The staff and the owner was great and so friendly. We are already telling everybody about what a great place and we will definitely go back. Thanks for making our stay so great!!!!

Spent an evening at the Inn at Half Mile Farm, this lovely inn is a must visit if you are ever in Highlands, NC. Beautiful grounds with shimmering ponds, Civil War history, Amazing staff and wonderful breakfasts.
This beautiful inn and the adjacent cabins feel like home in the mountains! My husband and I visited Highlands, my childhood hometown, to meet my cousins for a family gathering. We decided to come a few days early to enjoy the spring weather and chose the Inn at Half Mile Farm after reading the excellent TA reviews and looking at the pictures which reminded me of my grandparents' house. From the moment we drove down the driveway and up to the house, we knew we had made a great decision. The yard was gorgeous, the porch wide and welcoming, and Carol's welcome warm and genuine. She gave us a quick tour of the main house and we were then shown our rental, Lamon's Cabin. The cabin, which can be rented with the larger adjacent cabins to form a three bedroom home, was just right for two. We loved the clawfoot tub in the big bathroom and all the comfortable touches, including fridge and microwave hidden from view to preserve the rustic cabin decor. Unfortunately, my husband became ill shortly after we arrived and we spent part of the first night at the ER (good reviews for the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital!). When Carol learned of our plight, she couldn't have been more helpful, even helping us find an open drugstore "down the mountain." Chef Jason, Innkeeper Kate, and Carol were so kind, and we enjoyed their fellowship and hospitality. Of note, the Inn serves an absolutely scrumptious breakfast and wonderful late afternoon hors d'oeuvres and wine. Everything we ate was beautifully presented and delicious. Kate even sent my husband's breakfast back to the cabin with me when he didn't feel like coming to the dining room on the second morning. It is hard to create a new and unique review after so many other positive ones have been posted, but this is really an extraordinary spot in Highlands. The location is close enough to town to make shopping/sightseeing convenient, but you really feel like you are in your own mountain niche when you are on the property. There are the comforts of a bed and breakfast with the feel of a fine hotel, more accurately a laid-back fine hotel! The flowers, the sound of the creek, the sun reflecting on the pond... absolutely perfect! Thank you for a great stay. I hope we can return soon.

Cannot say enough about this property. Great location, 5 minutes from town, great layout for everything from just relaxing and reading a good book to fishing, canoeing, hiking, swimming and, of course, shopping in town. The staff and owner were wonderful and very helpful and Jason, the chef, prepares a most unique gourmet breakfast each day. The rooms are very spacious as are the baths. Our room had a king bed, 2 lounge chairs, a fireplace, and a deck. The bath had a whirlpool tub, a nice size stand alone shower and many extras which showed a lot of thought. Being a B & B, you must unload and transport your luggage which could be an issue if steps are involved. There is no question that we would again make this our selection in the Highlands area.
