Initially concerned about what seemed an isolated location, but instead turned out to be the unique selling feature of the hotel. The people were very pleasant and helpful with excellent English language skills. The hotel is older, but that adds to its charm, in my opinion. However, the lighting on the walkway to the restaurant and bar was almost absent, and the wood and limestone walkway was a little treacherous, especially in the rain. Also, the "gauntlet" of tropical plants […] on the walkway into the hotel lost its charm after the first trip through (again, especially with rain). I realize it's not a tradition to have screens on windows in Latin America, but they sure would be nice to be able to enjoy the very comfortable nights last week [except for the POSSIBILITY of the monkeys in the trees next to my room stopping by for a visit]. This is a great hotel to stay in for Rio vacations. The hotel is beautiful, very luxurious, & has one of the most breath taking views of the city you will get in a hotel. The staff are all very nice & all knew some english. Although, I did try with portuguese, everyone we encountered knew plenty of english for us to converse with. The restaurant, pool, […] & bar are also excellent. The food was delicious & the open air dining that we experienced at breakfast was very memorable. If you want luxury Rio style, this is it. The only knock we had on this hotel was the location in Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa is a very nice neighborhood with a lot of history & character, however, it is perched high above the city. All the guide books we had read prior to booking this hotel said that the street car made getting to Santa Teresa from the metro stops in the city no problem. When we arrived we found that the street car was no longer running due to an accident that happened & will be out of service for about another year or so. I will say the cabs are very inexpensive in Rio so really this was not a serious problem, but one issue that I wish I would have known about before traveling to Rio. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes modern luxury in a historic setting. If we return to Rio--this will be the hotel at the top of our list! Read more

My husband and I recently stayed at Hotel Santa Theresa on the final night of our honeymoon in Rio. Although it was a splurge hotel for us, we quickly figured out that the price was truly justified. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. Everyone was so friendly, particularly at the front desk no matter what time of day. They gave us many solid recommendations […] for things to do and see in the neighborhood. We were particularly interested in that area of the city since we were previously in Ipanema and Leblon (so we were excited to see a new part of town). And the converted coffee plantation building and grounds are breathtakingly gorgeous. Our room was a European suite with a balcony that overlooked Santa Theresa. It also had a view of Corcovada which was a great surprise. The room was amply stocked and comfortable. I slept more restfully in the bed than I did at every other hotel we visited on our trip. We loved the provided toiletries and that Havaianas were also stocked in the bathroom to use at the pool and elsewhere. There was turndown service with yummy chocolates and additional bathroom refreshing in the evening while we were out of the room. It was another unexpected surprise. The breakfast buffet was lovely and free to guests. We also ate at the bar (which had a very delicious burger and salad) and drank at the pool. The pool had warm water which was probably helped by the darker slate tile. There is also a jacuzzi tub which we did not use. The most impressive part of our stay was the staff's flexibility and willingness to accommodate us. Although we only stayed one night, we were granted a very late check out due to our evening flight out of Rio. It made the stay a great value because we had a place to freshen up and change before we left for the airport. Read more

The hotel lived up to expectations and in fact more so in certain areas. The hotels staff felt more like friends at the end of my eight nights. The suite and outside terrace were lovely and the food was excellent although expensive. I highly recommend the hotel if you wish to experience intimate Brazilian hospitality and luxury.

Amazing location & property, beautifully appointed rooms and fantastic front of house staff but let down by poor communications with the kitchen / housekeeping. Expect long waits and follow up calls for room service with a very limited menu even though they have a full scale restaurant. No tea or coffee facilities in room or enough drinking water - […] only 2 x 300ml designer bottles and the mini bar wasn't replaced daily. Other basics not looked after such as internet connectivity issues and maintenance (phone not working, toilet didn't flush properly, bathroom door and shower knobs come off...all understandable but once you mention these small items you don't expect to have to ask again). Overall it was great, we are going back...purely due to the responsiveness and helpfulness of the front of house staff as well as the wonderful location. However for the price you expect better service, luckily we were on vacation and not in a rush...so the positives outweighed the negatives. Read more

Although in the mountains, the surrounding area can be noisy and it's a good 25 minutes from Cococabana beach and many taxi's don't like to take you back there, or try and rip you off by charging you double and triple what it should be! the staff are friendly and helpful, the restuarant had many items missing off the menu on three consecutive nights […] that I ate there! We spent four nights at the R&C Santa Teresa and were very happy with our choice. The Junior Suite was spacious and very clean. However the noise in and around the hotel is a bit louder than in other 5* hotels I have been. Light sleepers should not forget their ear plugs. Other than that nothing negative can be said. The staff is very friendly and this […] is valid for everybody (security, front desk, waiters, room service etc). The people from the front desk always had a smile on their face and were very helpful in organising reservations for restaurants, clubs, cabs or making recommendations for sightseeing trips etc. The spa is really nice and the massages are very good. Try at least once the delicious restaurant. We had dinner there two times and were very satisfied with the food and also the friendliness of the waiters. We also liked the pool area which offers an amazing view of Rio de Janeiro. Read more
