"lovely B&B in west end of Edinburough"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Delightful accommodations. Derek is friendly and very helpful. Very pleased and would stay again. Extremely clean. Extremely quiet. Breakfasts are great. We did not eat dinner there although it is an option. Derek has two cats and those with cat allergies should not stay here. If you have difficulty with walking stairs, this would not be a good choice and a hotel with elevator would be preferred. The cats are not in any of the visitors rooms and are not obtrusive in any way. Bedding is wonderful. About a 15 minute walk to the castle, the water of Leigh, the modern art galleries and most of the central areas of New Town.
"Wedding Trip"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
The room was compact but had absolutely everything you needed to live for a year! Very convenient. The bed was a little too hard, but other than that everything was fine, Parking was the only awkward thing, the nearest spaces to leave for long term were about a mile away, but it was a pleasant walk and the Apartment was close enough to all the major sights for us to walk to and not detract from our stay. Great value. Id stay again.

"five minute walk to center of town"
modern hotel with decent sized rooms
"Nice hotel, but a little pricey for what you get"
Overall the stay was okay. Cleanliness varied day to day based on who cleaned the room (sometimes vacuumed, sometimes not, never washed my robe even though it was on the floor). Room service was fast and not too bad. Free wi-fi so that was a plus. Also nice bar downstairs.
"Apex Waterloo Place Hotel - Excellent experience"
Nice location, right next to the train station and a very modern hotel. Great views from the rooms. Awesome experience. Definitely recommend to everyone
"Apex Waterloo Place Staff"
Great hotel staff - friendly, attentive, well trained, at every position. Linda, the concierge, was especially helpful. Everyone contributed to an exceptional experience.
"Apex Waterloo Place Hotel Edinburgh"
This hotel is in an excellent location. There is easy access from the main railway station, and it is an easy walk to the main shopping centre. The hotel itself is very well run, and the staff that attended to me were really first class. The bedroom was spacious and the facilities excellent and all that you would expect in a 4-star hotel.
"Edinburgh Stay around Cristmas"
This is one of the best hotels I stayed in. Our room was great. The service was great from early start when we showed up by front desk. Fitness facilities were good as well as business center. Complimentary WiFi had great speeds and availability. But most importantly, hotel located within 4-5 minutes of all main shopping, sightseeing areas, and Christmas […] festival area. And at the same time, it is nice and quiet with no crowds next to the hotel. Absolutely loved it!!! If I am ever to go back to Edinburgh (which I am planning to do), there is only one hotel I will be looking at and it will be this Apex Waterloo. Read more
The staff was outstanding and the location was great. The only negative was that our room was small, but beds were extremely comfortable. Go to Edinburgh - it is a wonderful city - my favorite overseas so far - full of life!!! You will fall in love it!!
"Excellent choice"
We were very pleased with Apex Waterloo. The room was modern and roomy with a refrigerator, large screen TV and very quiet! The internet worked and it was included in the price. We stayed four nights and would have stayed longer but they were booked.
"excellent location and clean"
The Apex is a great location , close to the train station and the major sights and a short walk to the Royal Mile. The room is a nice size with lots of closet space. The lobby is nice and the buffet breakfast was very good. Highly recommend!
"great location and facilities"
everything was great but bkfst was expensive. go to the italian coffee/rest about 5 doors down at the corner of waterloo and lieth.
"Excellent Location"
This hotel is located very close to the Waterloo train Station. As well, there is a "short-cut" to and from the station via the side entrance, directly across the road, up 15 steps, from Level "0" of the hotel. Very convenient! The staff at this hotel is great; very friendly and helpful. There is a hotel bar for am afternoon drink, which is lovely. […] We did not utilize the restaurant, but it always seemed to be bustling. The room is a decent size, with a very comfortable bed and feather pillows. We had a disability room, so I can't seak for other's bathroom, but ours was sizeable, with clean tile floors and walls, a very nice tub, and nice soaps and lotions. This is a fabulous location, and we will certainly return to it! Read more
"The Apex Waterloo in Edinburgh - great stay!"
The Apex Waterloo in Edinburgh was modern, comfortable and very convenient to the train station and the main tourist sights. It is located on the primary pedestrian street, which has lots of stores of all types, as well as numerous restaurants. Great bathroom, with separate marble shower. Would stay there again if we were in Edinburgh.
"Apex Hotel in Edinburgh"
What a great hotel! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step inside it's wonderful. GREAT LOCATION! Just an easy 5 minute walk to Waverly Bridge (rail station, airport bus shuttle and sightseeing buses). Right at the end of Princess Street. Nice staff, lovely rooms. I will definately stay there again when in Edinburgh!
"Excellent hotel!"
We really enjoyed our two nights at the Apex Waterloo. The location is very convenient, the room was reasonably sized and very clean, and the hotel restaurant (Elliott's) was fantastic for both dinner and breakfast. Would definitely stay there again!
"Fantastic Edinburgh Property"
We booked this accommodation last minute and could not have been happier. The room and property amenities reminded me of other well thought of, contemporary, up-scale hotels at which I have stayed. The bathroom was especially modern and well thought-out, heated mirror a plus! We found everything very comfortable inside while convenient to the city. […] Really nothing better than an inviting place to stay during an otherwise beautiful and cool fall weekend in Edinburgh. All in all, our expectations were exceeded and we found the entire stay an excellent value too. Check out the well-appointed steam room, sauna, and pool too. Read more
"Modern with a classical twist"
We chose the Apex Waterloo Place on the basis of reviews here on Tripadvisor. On arrival first impressions were excellent. The hotel is very ideally located. It's at the end of Prince's Street and within metres of the bus stop. It's also 2 minutes away from Waverley station. I had called ahead to check if it would be ok for an extra early check in as […] our flight arrived at 7:30 on the day of check in. Sure enough upon arrival we were able to check in however the reception was not aware of my request/query so they were taken a little off guard by our arrival. Check in was swift, courteous and professional. All hotel and area amenities were pointed out to us and we went to our room for some sleep. We booked a superior double room. Size is very acceptable with all the amenities as described. Throughout our stay the room was cleaned daily however there were some things missed by housekeeping e.g. cleaning/replacing glasses in the bathroom although any issues were very minor. The room was facing the street and I had noted that some reviews mentioned street noise. Yes this is noticable as the windows are original to the building which is in excess of 100 years old. The noise is however in no way intrusive or off putting. One final word of note on the room is that it's clear that the hotel received a makeover in the recent past. What was noticable in our room though were that there were still tell tale signs of 'construction' e.g. blue shrink rap plastic on bathroom fittings etc and some of the tiling in the bathroom was in 'could do better' condition. I also noticed the wall coming away from above the A/C unit in the room. Look these are all small niggles and generally out of your eye line but they were noticable to me and also made me wonder how seriously the hotel take their maintenance and upkeep of the rooms. Do not let my description put you off though - the room was nice, modern and otherwise kept well. On our first night we ate in the hotel restaurant. Menu is a mix Read more

"Apex Waterloo"
This hotel was generally very nice and convenient. I went from March 8-10 of '10. The weather was a bit cool so they heated the hotel, but to us it seemed a bit too hot in the hallways. The restaurant was alright, if we went back a second time we'd spend the money eating somewhere else though. Staff were very courteous and attentive.
"Apex Waterloo in Edinburgh"
The hotel is well-situated; staff is friendly. The rooms, while non-smoking smell like smoke because smoking must be allowed in the common areas and hallways. Other than that, clean and welcoming.
"Apex Waterloo Place Hotel in Edinburgh"
Modern, clean, convenient, hip: that's how I'd describe the Apex Waterloo. I booked through Hotels.com and got a pretty good rate, though the room was on the side of the building and did not have a particularly spectacular view. That said, it really didn't matter, as the room itself was quite nice and I was out all day. The bathroom was ultra modern, […] though a bit dark since it did not have a window and the lighting was dim. The shower was never consistently hot, which was a little annoying, but the design itself was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was reasonably priced and quite good. The hotel restaurant--which I only went to for breakfast--was much better than I expected. Overall, I highly recommend the Apex Waterloo to all business travelers and to people on vacation. (I personally was doing a bit of both during my 3-day stay). The Apex Waterloo is conveniently located near the train station, near the Old Town, and near myriad restaurants and cafes. It's literally a few steps from Carlton Hill and its spectacular views of all Edinburgh. Read more
"hotel w/ great location in central of edinburgh"
Nice hotel, great location, easy transportation from/to airport. wifi access in room is poor, it has only two 2 pc's at business ctr at 7th floor.
"A Good Choice"
Comfortable, convenient, modern spot to stay in the heart of an amazing city. Fine place for dinner, too.
"Excellent experience. Great location!"
I rarely find a hotel I left feeling very satisfied, but this hotel was great! Has everything you could ask for. Great location, great service, clean, and comfortable. I highly recommend!

"Some rooms are very small"
The Good: Great location, staff was fine, furniture and beds were in good condition. The Bad: Shower water kept going hot and cold. No clock of any kind in the room. Our room was tiny, with no place to put our bags except on the floor. Our cooling system went off both nights, leaving us over-heated with either a heavy blanket or nothing - there are […] no separate sheets (which we found in many places in Scotland). Overall it wasn't awful, but in our experience not as great as in other reviews. Read more
"Great Room, Great Location"
Feels like the kinks mentioned by some of the earlier posters have been worked out. Quiet & very comfortable; love the modern decor and quality bathroom fixtures. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice indoor pool / steam room / sauna / exercise room (didn't need that though - walking Edinburgh takes care of that!).
"Fabulous Hotel !"
Will definitely go back. Good value for money

"WIll defintely visit again"
Very comfortable and clean hotel. We made the reservation at the last minute when our train to London got cancelled. Staff was accommodating and the room was very comfortable.
"Our Second Visit"
The hotel is very modern and clean and I would recommend it to everyone. The staff are very polite and happy to assist with any queries. Our first visit we had an upgraded room which came with nice touches, slippers and robes. This room didn't which was a shame. We opted for an internal room which was very quite as our original room was on the front […] and at night was noisey with passersby. The choice is yours. Read more

"Great new hotel in fantastic location"
Really enjoyed our stay at the Apex Waterloo - hotel is new and modern, with good facilities. Great location in the city within walking distance to main street and most tourist attractions. Would stay here again.
"Excellent Location but needs to provide better value for money"
This hotel has an excellent location however we felt it it was over priced for the standard & quality of service we received, We stayed in a superior room which was clean and comfortable but quite small. Expected better. The room was not serviced to a high standard & on return to our room one day our bathroom toilet had been used & not by us. It […] was not serviced well at all. Bar had no atmosphere & the hotel staff seemed very inexperienced. We won't be staying again. Read more
"Will definitely go back"
Had a great time, service was excellent and staff were very helpfull. Food in the restaurant was excellent, and the bar staff were very good.
"Best showers ever"
Nice hotel in a fantastic location with AMAZING shower!
"Great Modern Hotel"
We were not sure about this hotel when we booked it but it turned out to be terrific. Don't be fooled by the old looking exterior (everything in Edinburgh looks old) this is a fantastic modern hotel with great decor (especially the lighting scheme). Our room was spacious & comfortable with a walk-in shower & large tub. (Tip: the room key operates all […] room electrical power including the AC which Staff neglected to tell us). The hotel restaurant had great food and the prices were reasonable. (Tip: book the breakfast buffet when you check in-you will get a discount off full price). Thr bar & lounge was also great. Hotel staff were generally friendly & helpful. The location was great-close to Princes St. and the train station was 5-minutes away. Check out Rose St.-it has great Pubs & shops all close to hotel. "Excellent hotel in the heart of Edinburgh"
Hotel is located 5 minutes walk from Waterloo train Station. It is very modern and cosy. I was surprised by the quality of the hotel.
"Overall Excellent Hotel"
Good food, nice rooms and brilliant location right at the top of Princess Street
"Will o back again!"
Excellant location, hotel is very modern and has some nice extra touches to it. Food and service was excellant only dissapointing thing was the swimming pool/spa was cold when we used it.
"Great service, poor views"
We stayed there twice and both times, the room views were poor for the money we paid. We had a ally the first stay and no windows the second stay. The hotel room was very nice and clean and the largest bathrooms for our entire stay. I would stay there again, but would look at the room before I said yes!
"great hotel"
Only problems were i couldn't get on their wireless and the toilet seat kept sliding off. but once you get over that it was a great hotel. try to avoid rooms on floor one as they have a view of the back yard - and not the one that guests would be allowed in. they could've done that bit up and charged extra for rooms with an outdoor space!
"Great location"
Had read only positive reviews and now I know why. Great location, great price and lovely hotel - what more can I say?
"Great location"
Hotel close to city centre, able to walk to most attractions including Royal yacht. Wonderful use of an existing stone building. My wife enjoyed her swimming and I availed of the treadmill which although is a small space but has all equipment needed. The foyer is bright and airy and staff were very efficient and most helpful. Impressed with digital photography […] to rear wall of reception. Room was spotless and bed very comfortable and large. My only gripe would be that breakfast is not included in cost. Read more
"What a gem!"
Excellent location near the train station and only a short walk to the Royal Mile! Hotel staff were all very pleasent and eager to attend to all our needs. The free internet and gym added even more value! I will stay there again on our next visit to Edinburgh!
"Impressed"
Lovely hotel, very convenient to city centre. Rooms were well decorated and very clean. Staff were very helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel.

"Getting There"
For the money this place is almost worth it. The only area it lacked for us was the knowledge/service of the desk staff. We talked to 5 different workers in our 4-day stay there and almost no one knew anything about the surrounding area. They didn't even know the name of the car park where we were supposed to park the rental in order to receive a discount […] from the hotel! The final straw for us was that on the morning we were to catch trains at 5:30am to other parts of the country we ordered a wake up call from the front desk AND IT NEVER CAME! Luckily we had set our phones as back-up. Other than that, the hotel itself is wonderful and the location couldn't be better (just be prepared to bring ear-plugs to sleep... the surrounding pubs go well into the morning on the weekends and it is quite loud. "Pure Luxury"
Outstanding customer service, luxurious room and spa for the money paid. Would not usually expect such a treat for the price - a real gem!
