This hotel was a pleasant surprise, the room was great, quiet, and modern. Loved it and I will be staying at Apex hotels more often. A couple of observations, anyone with bulky luggage arriving by train may not want to follow the walking directions to the hotel provided on their website, it involves going up and down a couple of flights of stairs. Our bags were lost when we landed in Edinburgh and as soon as we got to the hotel and told them, one of the receptionists called the airline immediately and got on the case. When we got to our room, I didn't like it because I prefer rooms facing the street rather than the interior. LINDA, the concierge was AMAZING! She had a wealth of information and she was genuinely interested in us having a good experience. She gave us plenty of pointers and information places to visit. We stayed at the Apex Waterloo hotel for Hogmanay and everything was spectacular. The hotel was very sleek and modern and the service was unbelievable. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful! We actually arrived early and early check in was not an issue. It was very easy to walk to from the Waverley train station and all other popular attractions […] (prince street, royal mile, calton hill, castle, arthur's seat, etc.). The hotel is very close to everything but noise is not an issue because it is right out of the hustle and bustle of the center of the city. Even during Hogmanay (the New Year's celebration/one of the busiest times of the year) we didn't experience any problems with noise. To top it all off the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. We chose this hotel because it's close to Waverley and Princes Street and has a pool, much appreciated after a long day's travel with my eight-year-old. I could tell right away that the hotel catered more to adults than kids, but both the morning and evening staff went out of their way to be kind to my son, so no problem there. Skipped the restaurant and headed straight for the pool, which is by the spa and gym, accessed through the shower rooms. Nice hotel with great online reviews but I was really disappointed. Only there for one night and just wanted to go back to the room and relax before dinner. It was after 4pm and we were told that our room was still not available so were given another. Our original room for 2 singles was replaced with a handicapped room - one double bed and a shower […] in the middle of the bathroom. Hated it. It was also in the corner and was really dark and a bit depressing. I didn't ask for a discount because I had already pre-paid with hotel.com but it wasn't worth the price. No alarm clock and only instant coffee. No breakfast or coffee before 7am. The bed was very comfortable, we slept great. A couple buildings away from the General Registry Office and the National Archives. If you are going to research genealogy, it's the best location! Close to the train station, as well.

We're 60 and stayed 9 nights. The female concierges are very helpful and friendly. Reception desk was generally rude. Especially a young blonde. I always felt like they wished I wasn't standing there. They wouldn't even make eye contact. Hotel is nice. We had a room on the front of the building...very quiet. Linens and towels were good quality. Bathrobes […] were a nice touch as were the "treats" . Bath products were wonderful. Location was wonderful. short walk (5 min.) over the North Bridge and great views to the center of the Royal Mile. 7-8 min. walk to bus station/train station. No need to use a taxi at all. Downside: The closet waDIYwo small locker style areas. One had two 3" drawers at the bottom. There wasn't anywhere to put your things. We had to call for two luggage racks and live out of our suitcases. I would have loved a dresser to put away socks, undifolders. no drawers on night stands either. Maybe not a big deal for some, but we found it inconvenient and irritating. I would have expected the sink area to be separate from the stool and shower area as it is in better hotels. Would have allowed for more ease with two preparing for the day at the same time. While I can't say it was a bad stay, I expected more as it is one of the pricier hotels. We hope to return to Scotland again, but will most likely choose a different hotel. Not sure it was a very good value. We paid about $500 more for this than some of the others we considered. Just Northeast of Northbridge and Old town, Apex Waterloo is near the train and bus stations. The hotel has decent gym facilities, sauna, steam room, and shallow pool. The room service is efficient and the food is standard for Scotland. This is a clean, safe hotel to base your holiday in Edinburgh.

Overall the stay was okay. Cleanliness varied day to day based on who cleaned the room (sometimes vacuumed, sometimes not, never washed my robe even though it was on the floor). Room service was fast and not too bad. Free wi-fi so that was a plus. Also nice bar downstairs.

This hotel is in an excellent location. There is easy access from the main railway station, and it is an easy walk to the main shopping centre. the location was great, staff was ok not too friendly. the room was large yet there were stains on the sofa, the bathroom door was dirty, and the shower was not able to regulate the water temperature- when I showered the water would constantly change from hot to cold to warm. so i dont think it deserves a 4 star rating.

The hotel is sleek, modern and very comfortable. We were on the top floor. The bar menu and in room dining menu are American-friendly, while the restaurant has more traditional Scottish fare. Two in our group became ill, and the Apex was a comfortable place to recuperate. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful.

As well, there is a "short-cut" to and from the station via the side entrance, directly across the road, up 15 steps, from Level "0" of the hotel. Very convenient!
