"Couldn't really ask for more"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 23, 2013
This was a great stay. The room was huge and comfortable with a nice canopy bed, plenty of storage, and a nice TV. View was amazing as we could see the ocean from our 3rd floor room. The bathroom was very large with a giant tub that easily fit 2. The shower was lovely and a nice size, though the water pressure could of been a bit better. The location of this hotel was perfect. We came in at Edinburgh Waverly and several buses (5, 44, 113, 24X) all stop RIGHT in front of the hotel. There is an ASDA (walmart super store) with a wonderful breakfast cafe about 10 minutes walk. Porto Bella is about 15 minutes away which is a gorgeous little beach front area with an amazing cafe in the swim center that makes homemade food. The bus will get you into Edinburgh in about 30-45 minutes. Edinburgh castle, Arthur's seat, the Parliament, etc is all there. One of the best hotels I have stayed in at a great price. The Bistro, Bar and Restaurant downstairs were good but very expensive.

"Danish modern suites and more"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 16, 2013
The Glasshouse was a real find. The ultra-modern, yet comfortable suites made us long for extra time there. . .nice seating area with desk, sleek bathroom with deep-soak tub plus great shower. Looked out onto roof area, patio tables. "Snug" is lounge area with couches around inside firepit, with an honor bar. Glasshouse is in hot part of town next to a cinema-entertainment complex, easy walk to everything. Service was excellent. Only trick was finding it when driving. It's a former church on a busy block but address is down a tiny alley leading to parking garage. Drove past in rush hour many times; knew we were close; I finally got out and walked and asked people while my husband sat parked.

Loved it--great location, wonderful breakfast and terrific hosts!
"The Apex Waterloo in Edinburgh - great stay!"
The Apex Waterloo in Edinburgh was modern, comfortable and very convenient to the train station and the main tourist sights. It is located on the primary pedestrian street, which has lots of stores of all types, as well as numerous restaurants. Great bathroom, with separate marble shower. Would stay there again if we were in Edinburgh.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Apex Hotel in Edinburgh"
What a great hotel! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step inside it's wonderful. GREAT LOCATION! Just an easy 5 minute walk to Waverly Bridge (rail station, airport bus shuttle and sightseeing buses). Right at the end of Princess Street. Nice staff, lovely rooms. I will definately stay there again when in Edinburgh!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel!"
We really enjoyed our two nights at the Apex Waterloo. The location is very convenient, the room was reasonably sized and very clean, and the hotel restaurant (Elliott's) was fantastic for both dinner and breakfast. Would definitely stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic Edinburgh Property"
We booked this accommodation last minute and could not have been happier. The room and property amenities reminded me of other well thought of, contemporary, up-scale hotels at which I have stayed. The bathroom was especially modern and well thought-out, heated mirror a plus! We found everything very comfortable inside while convenient to the city. […] Really nothing better than an inviting place to stay during an otherwise beautiful and cool fall weekend in Edinburgh. All in all, our expectations were exceeded and we found the entire stay an excellent value too. Check out the well-appointed steam room, sauna, and pool too. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Modern with a classical twist"
We chose the Apex Waterloo Place on the basis of reviews here on Tripadvisor. On arrival first impressions were excellent. The hotel is very ideally located. It's at the end of Prince's Street and within metres of the bus stop. It's also 2 minutes away from Waverley station. I had called ahead to check if it would be ok for an extra early check in as […] our flight arrived at 7:30 on the day of check in. Sure enough upon arrival we were able to check in however the reception was not aware of my request/query so they were taken a little off guard by our arrival. Check in was swift, courteous and professional. All hotel and area amenities were pointed out to us and we went to our room for some sleep. We booked a superior double room. Size is very acceptable with all the amenities as described. Throughout our stay the room was cleaned daily however there were some things missed by housekeeping e.g. cleaning/replacing glasses in the bathroom although any issues were very minor. The room was facing the street and I had noted that some reviews mentioned street noise. Yes this is noticable as the windows are original to the building which is in excess of 100 years old. The noise is however in no way intrusive or off putting. One final word of note on the room is that it's clear that the hotel received a makeover in the recent past. What was noticable in our room though were that there were still tell tale signs of 'construction' e.g. blue shrink rap plastic on bathroom fittings etc and some of the tiling in the bathroom was in 'could do better' condition. I also noticed the wall coming away from above the A/C unit in the room. Look these are all small niggles and generally out of your eye line but they were noticable to me and also made me wonder how seriously the hotel take their maintenance and upkeep of the rooms. Do not let my description put you off though - the room was nice, modern and otherwise kept well. On our first night we ate in the hotel restaurant. "Great Location"
The hotel is very convenient to both bus and train stations and there is a bus stop just outside the door. It is very close to all the sights and to shopping and dining. Very nice bathroom with both a tub and a large, separate shower. The staff were helpful and the rooms quiet. We liked it so much we stayed an extra night.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Apex Waterloo"
This hotel was generally very nice and convenient. I went from March 8-10 of '10. The weather was a bit cool so they heated the hotel, but to us it seemed a bit too hot in the hallways. The restaurant was alright, if we went back a second time we'd spend the money eating somewhere else though. Staff were very courteous and attentive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice hotel"
Very nice hotel, very professional and helpfull staff, very nice and quiet rooms, very good location, good spa but I wish the pool was bigger so as to be able to swim!!. Also it was a bit highly priced hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Apex Waterloo in Edinburgh"
The hotel is well-situated; staff is friendly. The rooms, while non-smoking smell like smoke because smoking must be allowed in the common areas and hallways. Other than that, clean and welcoming.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Apex Waterloo Place Hotel in Edinburgh"
Modern, clean, convenient, hip: that's how I'd describe the Apex Waterloo. I booked through Hotels.com and got a pretty good rate, though the room was on the side of the building and did not have a particularly spectacular view. That said, it really didn't matter, as the room itself was quite nice and I was out all day. The bathroom was ultra modern, […] though a bit dark since it did not have a window and the lighting was dim. The shower was never consistently hot, which was a little annoying, but the design itself was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was reasonably priced and quite good. The hotel restaurant--which I only went to for breakfast--was much better than I expected. Overall, I highly recommend the Apex Waterloo to all business travelers and to people on vacation. (I personally was doing a bit of both during my 3-day stay). The Apex Waterloo is conveniently located near the train station, near the Old Town, and near myriad restaurants and cafes. It's literally a few steps from Carlton Hill and its spectacular views of all Edinburgh. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location. Friendly staff. Comfortable Rooms."
The staff was very friendly. Maps, directions, and tips were provided when requested. The hotel itself is very comfortable and modern, beautiful interior design. 24 hour bar for hotel guests. Breakfast was very good, if a bit more than I wanted to pay for it. The location was great, very close to waverly train station.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Fantastic Place and a great location."
Upon arrival to the Apex Waterloo Hotel, I have to admit that I didn't expect much. Yet, from the wonderful service from our host check-in attendant to the comfort of the bed and room, this place is definitely a great place to stay while in Edinburgh. We didn't have a chance to try out the restaurant or bar as the location afforded us a 4-5 min walk […] to the Royal Mile, but if their food/drinks are anything like their service, then this place deserves a Michelin star. I highly reccommend a stay here while in Scotland. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasurable experience"
Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a higher floor so that we could have a better view. Bed was so comfortable I could have stayed there and slept for 24 hrs, but we had to leave! Bathroom had a bath which was very welcome when most accommodation has very pokey bathrooms. Will definitely stay here again when back in Edinburgh.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Stay"
Lovely hotel in the new part of town. Just a 15 minute walk through town to some of the main tourist attractions (Castle, Palace) and in a great neighborhood, close to lots of shops and restaurants. Try a walk down Leith Walk to explore the more local/ethnic cuisine that Edinburgh has to offer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We'll be back!"
Brilliant location, very comfortable bed, lovely staff. The room was a little masculine for two girls - perhaps designed around the male commuter - but it was fine for the one night we were there. The shower let the room down - it leaked everywhere and was a bit pathetic but, again, for one night, it was fine. We'd definitely stay again but would ask […] for a bigger room. "Excellent choice, ideal location."
This hotel was excellent, although we did not use the spa facilities or the restaurant. The prices listed for breakfast seemed expensive, but there are plenty of nice eateries nearby, more reasonably priced. Car parking is not easy, particularly on a Saturday night, onstreet bays were full. Drop-off and pick-up also tricky, we had to double park while […] we unloaded luggage, before finding a car park in the vicinity, a ten minute walk from hotel. Ask advice of the hotel on booking, they have a reduced rate with a car park in the area, which we were unaware of. Very clean, comfortable, well appointed hotel, with pleasant, helpful staff. Very quiet too, although the hotel was busy. Would stay here again, and recommend it to friends. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to the main attractions in the city centre"
We've stayed here before and found the hotel to be excellent. As before we found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the double room was clean and spacious. The hotel is just a five minute walk from the train station, and our main reason for staying, the Edinburgh Playhouse. We had a great time and would highly recommend the Apex Waterloo.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel for a luxury weekend away!"
We had a lovely time at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel. The location was excellent, right in the centre of Edinburgh, only a short walk to the shops, galleries, castle and Arthurs Seat! The room was very nice, luxurious bathroom, big TV, complimentary refreshments. We used the gym, spa, pool and sauna - all of which were perfect. The only complaint (from […] my partner) is that there were no heavy weight machines in the gym, only light free weights, but that didn't bother me! We didn't eat in the restaurant or use the bar, but both areas looked nice. The staff were very friendly ans helpful. Would definitely recommend and use again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great room, shame about the smell!"
We had a superior room but when we arrived it was stiflingly hot. When we turned down the heating ( it had been set at 27 degrees) we noticed a horrendous damp smell throughout the room and bathroom. As we were only saying one night and were going out for the night we didn't bother to ask for a move. The room (apart from the smell) was huge, with an […] equally huge bathroom - the walk in shower alone would take a football team! The expresso coffee was very good. The bar area was very nice but can't comment on breakfast as we declined the offer - £10 each is a bit steep even in Edinburgh. We did buy the bath duck though - with a donation to charity at reception. I would go back but ask for a different room. (we were in 847) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
