This is a hotel with friendly staff. If you need something they will get it. Italian restaurant down the street was delicious. A little market down a couple of stores. Concierge helped plan our outings, suggested best and easiest way to get there. Absolutely wonderful.

We enjoyed our stay, albeit a short one, and were able to walk from the bus stop to the hotel and then walk from the hotel throughout the "Royal Mile", parks, etc. Would like to go back as we were only in Edinburgh for 22 hours - not enough time to enjoy everything about the charming city.

The staff were extremely helpful about guiding us through the city. When arranging local travel for the next day, they offered to research details and get back to them later in the evening after our dinner. Upon doing so, they had all the info we needed with a smile. The rooms were spacious with lots of sunlight and the maids were thorough but not obtrusive.

Spent 16 days ( March 2014) at the Apex. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The location was fabulous and within walking distance to many major locations in both Old Town and New Town Edinburgh. It is convenient the Waverly Train Station. Our king city view room was smallish but comfortable, with very a nice bathroom. Our dinner at Elliots's at The Apex was wonderful and compared favorably with some of the nicest restaurants in Edinburgh.

We had an excellent time here. Located a few minutes from North Bridge and Princes Street, it is a wonderful location for exploring the sights of Edinburg. The only downside is that there is no parking available. Discounted parking is available in a garage 10 minutes from the hotel. Other than that, it was great. There are a lot of restaurants nearby in addition to the two at the hotel

Nice hotel within a 15 minute walk of the castle. I stayed with them on 2 seperate occasions during a business trip to Scotland - with a 1-night's trip in between to Glasgow. My second room was much nicer for some reason. The first room had a door handle that stuck each time I tried to enter the room and it was handicapped friendly so my shower did not have a door of any kind which made it quite chilly.

The hotel lies at the east end of Princes Street, and within 2 blocks of Weaverly Train Station and the Hop-on Hop-off bus tours. Edinburgh’s shopping districts are closeby. Edinburgh Playhouse Theather is approx. 3 blocks way and Edinburgh Castle is approx 1 mile away. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel room was very clean and spacious. On this trip, we stayed in Paris, London and Edinburgh This room was by far the largest. There was a kingsize bed and a bathroom that had both a walkin shower and seperate bathtub. For those of you who are "green" conscientious, will find this hotel to your liking. Upon entering your room, your keycard must be put into a keycard slot to activate the lights. Take the keycard with you and the lights will automatically turn off. Would definitely here stay again.

The Apex Waterloo Place is an American-style hotel. Our room was comfortable, with a great bed and the best bathroom we've seen in two weeks of travel in the UK. The hotel seems to cater to large tour groups, so service for individuals or couples can be a little iffy at times. However, we have no real complaints and would stay here again.

Our room which was booked as superior double promotion was comfortable with large windows that overlooked the street. Our traveling companion's room booked as city double promotion for a single person was smaller and overlooked the small space between the buildings, but it was a quiet room. The hotel staff was very professional and stored our bags since we had arrived early.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights. I could not praise this hotel enough except for two nights interrupted sleep. On one night, we had a fire alarm at 3AM due to another guest. We had to evacuate the building for 30 minutes. Understandably, this was an exception. However, I feel that the other situation is an on-going issue. On the last evening of our stay which was a Friday evening, there was noise until 3 AM from a nearby nightclub/bar that was not open the prior three evenings. One would not even recognize this as such an establishment. However, if you look out your hotel window and see the word "Pilo" on a ground floor building sign across the street, expect music/noise on the weekend. When I mentioned this at checkout, the reception desk simply nodded, as if they were fully aware of this. Otherwise, it is a five minute walk from Waverly Station and nearby Calton Hill. Very comfy king size bed with your choice of thin or fluffy pillows, individual toiletries, free bottled water in the room, wrapped cookies, full length mirror, wide screen TV, free wifi, clean tub with separate shower area, no wash clothes. Employees were very personable.

The rooms are stark and ugly. (Many are located below street level.) Not even a clock/radio at the bedside. And forget about a hook to hang a towel in the bathroom - it doesn't exist. I ordered a full breakfast, which came without the usual condiments you would take for granted. No butter or jam for toast, no salt and pepper for eggs. Good thing I asked for cream with coffee or I'm sure it would be missing. On the second morning, I listed these requests, and got them, and although I ordered a full breakfast again, this time there was only a single fried egg, instead of the usual two. Really?? Oh, and even though they say it comes with a newspaper, it does not. When I inquired at the front desk why I did not get a newspaper for the two days I stayed, I was told there are no newspapers on the weekend "because there are so many guests and we would have to order too many". Again, REALLY?! On the last day we asked for a late checkout and were told they would charge for it. The lobby is small and cramped, with cheap mismatched furnishings, and a manicurist is a stationed at a table just inches from the front desk as the toxic scent of nail polish remover fills the air. This is a rank amateur operation at best and I do not recommend it.

Stayed at the Apex Waterloo for a week in early July and was very pleased with both our room and the hotel's location. Our standard room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also very nice - updated and clean as well. We arrived at 9 a.m., well before check in time, and the staff were kind enough to have our room ready for us to occupy by 11 a.m. LOVED the location as the train station was just down the street, stores were close by and the tour bus company that we used for sightseeing excursions departed from the bus station directly across the street. Princes Street stores are a two minute walk away and you can walk to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle in about 10 minutes. I would stay here again if I have the chance to return to Edinburgh in the future.

Room was comfortable and updated and had a king bed, but a little on the tight side for American taste. Great location as we used ScotRail to go to the Open two days, and very close to the Royal Mile and Rose Street for diversions. Only negative was the love seat was stained on the arms and seat, and carpet had stains in hallways. Overall a great stay!

After researching several hotels, we chose the Apex for our stay in Edinburgh. The hotel is conveniently located and easy to get to. When we walked inside, the interior was very pleasing. Our plan was to stay 1 night, go on a 3 day bus tour and return to the Apex for 3 more nights. One reason we chose the Apex is because we could leave our bags there while we took our tour. Our 1st room was on the 2nd floor which is 3 floors below the lobby. We were put in a handicap room 2 doors down from the elevator. Once we were in the room we couldn't hear any hallway noise. Because the hotel is on a hill there was an outside window, that was between buildings. We were only sleeping there that night so that was okay with us. The beds very comfortable. On our return trip, they gave us a 1st floor room. I asked for an above ground room. They put us on the 7th floor, also in a handicap room. When we came back from dinner the room was hot, the air conditioner wasn't working. The manager opened the window and the room was comfortable, but became hot again. They said they would fix the air the next day. The next day, we came back to the room and the air was not fixed. The manager moved us to another room on the same floor, this time it was a non handicap room, which didn't matter to us. During the night I did wake up a couple of times to street noise, but that was okay, it's a city, you can't expect it to be silent. Our stay was pleasant. I would stay there again.

Stayed only a night and all we needed was a bed and shower but the rooms were of much higher quality than we expected.

My fiancee and I stayed here over the July 4 long weekend. I wasn't familiar with the hotel, but I knew the city and saw that it was easy walking distance to everything and quite reasonable (though not cheap) in price. We were blown away when we actually got there. The location is not just convenient- it's perfect. Essentially on the corner of Princes Street and North Bridge Street, there was nothing we couldn't get to with a twenty-minute walk. Bridge Street is one of the three central ways to get between Old Town and New Town, Princes Street (and it's parallel George Street) are great for shopping, it was a 15 minute walk to Arthur's Seat and Holyroodhouse Palace, AND you can pick up any train or bus for excursions at Waverly Station and along Princes Street (4 minute walk). Things got better when we got to the room. Spacious, with big windows and a comfortable bed and nice flatscreen TV. Free Wifi as well. The bathroom was actually the best thing- HUGE tub and nice shower. Downsides: with the curtains closed, the room was pretty dark, the lights require a keycard to be inserted in a slot near the door (slightly annoying when fiancee went for a run and everything shut off) and the electric deadbolt randomly engages when you're holding the door open, meaning the door doesn't always shut. The staff was very good, the restaurant (Elliots) was fine, with spectacular sticky toffee pudding. Would have liked to sample the pool and sauna, but too much to see.

Short walk from train station (~5-8 min.) First room on 2nd floor/city view did not get wifi, changing room was not a problem. Enjoyed breakfast at the coffee shop next door and the Italian restaurant 4 doors toward the city. Didn't eat on site. Staff very friendly and helpful with directions. About a 15 min. walk to the Castle (must see and book tickets on-line to avoid long ticket line). Several restaurants within 10-15 min. walk. Only downside was the trash on the sidewalk out front. Hint - eat at Mum's by the National Museum, great food!

I enjoyed the location - close to both sides of town, lots of places to eat, nr the rail station for a quick hop to Glasgow. Even a movie theater near by. Everyone was great.
