"Great hotel and excellent location"
Stayed at the Apex Waterloo for a week in early July and was very pleased with both our room and the hotel's location. Our standard room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also very nice - updated and clean as well. We arrived at 9 a.m., well before check in time, and the staff were kind enough to have our room ready for us […] to occupy by 11 a.m. LOVED the location as the train station was just down the street, stores were close by and the tour bus company that we used for sightseeing excursions departed from the bus station directly across the street. Princes Street stores are a two minute walk away and you can walk to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle in about 10 minutes. I would stay here again if I have the chance to return to Edinburgh in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great place close to Waverly Station"
Room was comfortable and updated and had a king bed, but a little on the tight side for American taste. Great location as we used ScotRail to go to the Open two days, and very close to the Royal Mile and Rose Street for diversions. Only negative was the love seat was stained on the arms and seat, and carpet had stains in hallways. Overall a great s […] tay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mother and daughter's first time in Edinburgh"
After researching several hotels, we chose the Apex for our stay in Edinburgh. The hotel is conveniently located and easy to get to. When we walked inside, the interior was very pleasing. Our plan was to stay 1 night, go on a 3 day bus tour and return to the Apex for 3 more nights. One reason we chose the Apex is because we could leave our bags there […] while we took our tour. Our 1st room was on the 2nd floor which is 3 floors below the lobby. We were put in a handicap room 2 doors down from the elevator. Once we were in the room we couldn't hear any hallway noise. Because the hotel is on a hill there was an outside window, that was between buildings. We were only sleeping there that night so that was okay with us. The beds very comfortable. On our return trip, they gave us a 1st floor room. I asked for an above ground room. They put us on the 7th floor, also in a handicap room. When we came back from dinner the room was hot, the air conditioner wasn't working. The manager opened the window and the room was comfortable, but became hot again. They said they would fix the air the next day. The next day, we came back to the room and the air was not fixed. The manager moved us to another room on the same floor, this time it was a non handicap room, which didn't matter to us. During the night I did wake up a couple of times to street noise, but that was okay, it's a city, you can't expect it to be silent. Our stay was pleasant. I would stay there again. "Perfectly placed and reasonably affordable"
My fiancee and I stayed here over the July 4 long weekend. I wasn't familiar with the hotel, but I knew the city and saw that it was easy walking distance to everything and quite reasonable (though not cheap) in price. We were blown away when we actually got there. The location is not just convenient- it's perfect. Essentially on the corner of Princes […] Street and North Bridge Street, there was nothing we couldn't get to with a twenty-minute walk. Bridge Street is one of the three central ways to get between Old Town and New Town, Princes Street (and it's parallel George Street) are great for shopping, it was a 15 minute walk to Arthur's Seat and Holyroodhouse Palace, AND you can pick up any train or bus for excursions at Waverly Station and along Princes Street (4 minute walk). Things got better when we got to the room. Spacious, with big windows and a comfortable bed and nice flatscreen TV. Free Wifi as well. The bathroom was actually the best thing- HUGE tub and nice shower. Downsides: with the curtains closed, the room was pretty dark, the lights require a keycard to be inserted in a slot near the door (slightly annoying when fiancee went for a run and everything shut off) and the electric deadbolt randomly engages when you're holding the door open, meaning the door doesn't always shut. The staff was very good, the restaurant (Elliots) was fine, with spectacular sticky toffee pudding. Would have liked to sample the pool and sauna, but too much to see. "Easy walk from Waverly Train Station"
Short walk from train station (~5-8 min.) First room on 2nd floor/city view did not get wifi, changing room was not a problem. Enjoyed breakfast at the coffee shop next door and the Italian restaurant 4 doors toward the city. Didn't eat on site. Staff very friendly and helpful with directions. About a 15 min. walk to the Castle (must see and book tickets […] on-line to avoid long ticket line). Several restaurants within 10-15 min. walk. Only downside was the trash on the sidewalk out front. Hint - eat at Mum's by the National Museum, great food! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent location! Restaurant expensive but yum"
I enjoyed the location - close to both sides of town, lots of places to eat, nr the rail station for a quick hop to Glasgow. Even a movie theater near by. Everyone was great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"great except for wireless"
The hotel was beautiful, especially the bathroom, and the staff was great. The restaurant is expensive and with the tiny dishes that are more irritating than satisfying, although they were well done. Getting decent wireless or mobile access in the hotel is difficult, though. Beware of that if you need a lot of access in your room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place to stay..."
The staff at this hotel was very helpful...I've never had the concierge come to my room (three times) in an effort to aide us with any decisions regarding what to do, where's a place to do laundry, etc. She was extremely professional, showed grreat enthusiasm and most of all very helpful. "One fine hotel in the heart of Edinburgh"
We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. We got an upgrade to their 'Superior' room, which is spacious (in European standard), has comfortable bed, a real big bathroom with both a bath tub and a walk-in shower. The decoration is modern despite the hotel front exterior as a landmark building. Its best feature is its location. It is just minutes walking […] distance from the Waverley train station, important to us since we travel to/from Edinburgh by train. If you like sightseeing on foot, the hotel is within walking distance to almost all the major attractions in Edinburgh. There are numerous restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, shopping (department stores, groceries, etc.) nearby. Being addicted to Starbucks coffee, we are delighted to find that there is a (big) Starbucks right behind the hotel. We started each of our morning from that Starbucks! We had dinner one evening in their restaurant Elliot. It has a refreshing menu and the food is well prepared and served. Although it is a bit on the pricey side, it is worth it especially if you compare it with the other luxurious hotel restaurents in the city center. We will definitely stay there again when we come back to this lovely city. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, centrally located"
Close to train and bus stations and Royal Mile. and the High St Bridge. Very relaxing stay after transatlantic plane ride. Robes in bathroom but like several other hotels, no washclothes. Perhaps I could have asked but I did not.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was a pleasant surprise, the room was great, quiet, and modern. Loved it and I will be staying at Apex hotels more often. A couple of observations, anyone with bulky luggage arriving by train may not want to follow the walking directions to the hotel provided on their website, it involves going up and down a couple of flights of stairs. Also, […] the isolated door where the instructions lead to can also be deceptively suspicious, don't be intimidated by it, just ring the bell to get the door opened for you and take the elevator to the lobby level. Our bags were lost when we landed in Edinburgh and as soon as we got to the hotel and told them, one of the receptionists called the airline immediately and got on the case. When we got to our room, I didn't like it because I prefer rooms facing the street rather than the interior. I called and the room was switched immediately, we didn't have to go […] back to reception, we were just told to meet someone on the floor with the new room. The place was clean, and well maintained. LINDA, the concierge was AMAZING! She had a wealth of information and she was genuinely interested in us having a good experience. She gave us plenty of pointers and information places to visit. Lastly, we took a day trip into the highlands with the heart of Scotland tours and the pick up point was LITERALLY across the street from the hotel. A+! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We had a wonderful stay at the Apex Waterloo. The location is absolutely perfect- about 3 minutes away from North Bridge straight across to the Royal Mile. We would definitely stay here again if we return. We had two rooms - both were bright and recently updated with nice king sized beds. The staff was very helpful, particularly the concierge, who walks around the bar/lobby checking on everyone about how their day was and making suggestions for what to do or where to eat.Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed at the Apex Waterloo hotel for Hogmanay and everything was spectacular. The hotel was very sleek and modern and the service was unbelievable. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful! We actually arrived early and early check in was not an issue. It was very easy to walk to from the Waverley train station and all other popular attractions […] (prince street, royal mile, calton hill, castle, arthur's seat, etc.). The hotel is very close to everything but noise is not an issue because it is right out of the hustle and bustle of the center of the city. Even during Hogmanay (the New Year's celebration/one of the busiest times of the year) we didn't experience any problems with noise. To top it all off the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. Couldn't have asked for a better hotel experience during one of the busiest times of the year. Excellent!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel for Waverley travellers"
We chose this hotel because it's close to Waverley and Princes Street and has a pool, much appreciated after a long day's travel with my eight-year-old. I could tell right away that the hotel catered more to adults than kids, but both the morning and evening staff went out of their way to be kind to my son, so no problem there. Our room was very comfortable […] and modern, with lots of wardrobe space, firm bed with nice pillows, an enormous tv and walk-in shower (the sleek shower head was a bit small for my liking, a minor complaint). Skipped the restaurant and headed straight for the pool, which is by the spa and gym, accessed through the shower rooms. The pool is all atmosphere, dimly lit with piped-in (low-volume) music, but it worked for us. Then to bed, very quiet, and the 6:30 wake-up call was right on time. A short but enjoyable stay! "Across from Waverley and Very Comfortable"
This is a solid 4 star hotel that couldn't be in a better location. The staff is very friendly and helpful but it's not exactly value for money. It's worth it for me to pay more to stay here when in Embra as it's so clean and comfy, with very good breakfasts (but breakfast is expensive as well) but this is not "luxurious" , just very nice and solid. "Room still not available after 4pm?"
Nice hotel with great online reviews but I was really disappointed. Only there for one night and just wanted to go back to the room and relax before dinner. It was after 4pm and we were told that our room was still not available so were given another. Our original room for 2 singles was replaced with a handicapped room - one double bed and a shower […] in the middle of the bathroom. Hated it. It was also in the corner and was really dark and a bit depressing. I didn't ask for a discount because I had already pre-paid with hotel.com but it wasn't worth the price. "Not sure it's worth the money."
We're 60 and stayed 9 nights. The female concierges are very helpful and friendly. Reception desk was generally rude. Especially a young blonde. I always felt like they wished I wasn't standing there. They wouldn't even make eye contact. Hotel is nice. We had a room on the front of the building...very quiet. Linens and towels were good quality. Bathrobes […] were a nice touch as were the "treats" . Bath products were wonderful. Location was wonderful. short walk (5 min.) over the North Bridge and great views to the center of the Royal Mile. 7-8 min. walk to bus station/train station. No need to use a taxi at all. Downside: The closet waDIYwo small locker style areas. One had two 3" drawers at the bottom. There wasn't anywhere to put your things. We had to call for two luggage racks and live out of our suitcases. I would have loved a dresser to put away socks, undifolders. no drawers on night stands either. Maybe not a big deal for some, but we found it inconvenient and irritating. I would have expected the sink area to be separate from the stool and shower area as it is in better hotels. Would have allowed for more ease with two preparing for the day at the same time. While I can't say it was a bad stay, I expected more as it is one of the pricier hotels. We hope to return to Scotland again, but will most likely choose a different hotel. Not sure it was a very good value. We paid about $500 more for this than some of the others we considered. I don't think it was worth it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location; Check Room Location"
The hotel is located in an outstanding area and the main gathering rooms (lounge and restaurant) are attractive and the service excellent. "Great hotel but could be better"
Breakfast which was not included in my price was outrageously expensive at 15 GBP with what I consider to be a rather limited selection for the money. To order breakfast, I was not given the option to just get the continental breakfast at 11 GBP but had to order a hot breakfast which included the continental. My strong preference would have been the […] continental only. I think that including a continental breakfast in the room price would greatly enhance the hotel stay.
