"Enjoyed Royal resorts in Cancun"Reviewed by Brian of "Alberta Canada" on Jan 31, 2012
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of Royal resorts. We enjoyed useing all 3 resorts that were close together and then the free shuttle to Sands Resort. Disappointed in few slow elevators. Like 1 for 2 or 3 huge buildings with 11 floor of rooms. We had ants in our kitchen and had to call for 3 days until finally someone came and fixed the problem. Free use of bikes snorkeling and other equipment - free tennis and wifi - only the Internet get disconnecting every time you stopped using it for a few minutes. Would love to have some hot tub with not much to do at evening or cool windy nights and days.
"Budget Hidden Gem"Reviewed by Richard of "Nanaimo British Columbia" on Jan 29, 2012
Away from the pricy Hotel Zone and it's Vegas razzmataz this little budget priced hotel in the "Mexican" part of Cancun surpassed my expectations for value and quality considering the great low end price-point. The staff speak English well. My room was a tad Motel 6ish small, but was clean, had 2 double beds (not mattresses tossed on to concrete slabs so typical of many low end Mexican hotels) and is decorated with well built almost rustic Mexican furniture. There was an LG plasma TV bolted to the wall with a good selection of subtitled channels... a nice touch. There is a restaurant on site with menu prices for some items less than half what you'd pay in the Hotel Zone. My 70 peso Chicken Cordon Bleu was excellent. Morning fresh perked coffee, juice and fruit was ready on a buffet table for 25 pesos... but the fruit buffet/coffee is included if you order a small entre' from breakfast menu...clearly the best breakfast value. There is a small pool and the pool/restaurant area has a large outside speaker system playing some nice easy listening/new age music. Internet is provided and from my room the signal was strong, lightning fast with plenty of bandwidth available for streaming VOiP applications. I detected no VOiP app port blocking (so very common in the hotel zone) so your Skype, Vonage or MagicJack should work OK here at the Hacienda de Castilla. This hotel is in a bit of an older part of town but because of the great on site service, clean comfy beds, and ample guest toiletries I give this hotel a solid 2.5-3 star rating. Good value for those traveling on a budget.
"Grand Royal Lagoon"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 29, 2012
Stayed 3 nights at the Grand Royal Lagoon from Jan 11 to Jan 14, 2012. Great view at night from the garden across the lagoon. Rooms are very clean but beds are hard and the fixtures (i.e. sink in the bathroom) are worn. Location is easy walking distance to shops and bigger hotels and the beach on the hotel strip. The croissant/coffee booth and the empanada booth in the strip mall on the corner can't be beat for price and tastiness! For this price, this was a great hotel!
"Over nighter"Reviewed by Katherine of "Vancouver, BC" on Jan 23, 2012
We were arriving late in the day and needing to get to Tulum. We decided to spend one night and get an early start the next day...and the Comfort Inn was a great choice for us. It was only less than 3 miles from the airport and they provided us with a shuttle the next morning. The neighbourhood was mostly highway and looked pretty industrial, so I would not recommend it for that, but for a brief and very convenient and reasonably priced layover...i'd be back!
"Worth the price of convenience"Reviewed by Lexy of "Toronto, ON" on Jan 19, 2012
My gf and I weren't too sure what to expect because the reviews are at both ends of the spectrum. We kept an open mind and were not disappointed at all. We were checked in on the 6th floor with a balcony facing the waters, we requested for a smoking room but it seems like this was their compromise, which wasn't too shabby after all! The buffet food is alright. Nothing to shout about but they are edible. If you want to eat in the hotel's other restaurants, I suggest you book at 730am or else you only have a choice of their buffet for bfast, lunch and dinner. However, their snack bar has pretty awesome chicken wings so make sure you try that at least once. They have activities and a small area where a few merchants try to sell small items, at least you don't have to look much further for souveniers. Towards the end of the night, a few staff members are employed to round up guests to party nearby. Its literally a 3min bus ride. They take extremely good care of you. We were two girls and the chaperones make sure nothing happened to us and kept us in a VIP area where strangers were not allowed invited. Overall Cancun is pretty safe and heading back is not that difficult. We haggled about USD5 for a taxi each time. It really helps that this hotel is super close to most of the action (1km away). If you want to try good food, then don't bother with all-inclusive and take a cab and eat outside of the hotel bc its not really much further. But the all-inclusive can be quite decent if you just want to relax and get a little sun. We would def come back again. Especially knowing that we were always looked after.

Accessible by ferry, Isla Mujeres is a major ecotourism destination. El Parque Natural Garrafón (Garrafón Natural Reef Park) features coral reefs inhabited by schools of fish. Giant sea turtles come ashore at Tortugranja to lay eggs. North of Isla Mujeres, thousands of rare and tropical birds roost at a natural sanctuary on Isla Contoy.

"Great Hotel - Just needs some maintenance"
The beach is unreal at this hotel. The hotel is on an awesome spot on the island. It's very relaxed. Nice pool but spent most of the time by the beach. The beach side restaurant is pretty awesome, unreal guacamole. The hotel room it self is very good size, we were in the superior room. The hotel is really nice, but can tell it needs some maintenance. […] Like pain coming off near the pool walks, and the first room we were in didnt have hot water. We later switched rooms and it was ok. One thing I really didnt like was that they said they had wifi in many places, but yet, it only seemed to work in a specific area in your hotel room only. Either balcony or bedroom. And if you moved you lost a signal. They said there is wifi at the beach side cafe, there isnt, it doesnt work. The food at this hotel is pretty good. I was happy with it. Great selection for a vegetarian. :) Some of the workers at this hotel really didnt care to help, specificaly a bell boy at the front. Some workers were very forgetful and just werent interested in helping at all. And others were great. Best things about this hotel is the beach that it comes with. The sand is the water colour is beautiful. The Spa ladies were unreal and VERY friendly. and Great service. Read more

"Great hotel, great food. Very relaxing!"
We went to Privilege Aluxes for our minimoon. The hotel is beautufil and very quiet. Service was great and we enjoyed the food. There are 3 restaurants, one of them is a buffet. We had an all inclusive package and enjoyed a variety of drinks. Our room was very nice and included a powerful air conditioner, large bathroom, small fridge (which was part […] of our all inclusive and restocked every day) and a jacuzzi. As I said, the hotel was pretty quiet, other than the pool and the beach, there wasn't much to do (there was also a beach volleyball court somewhere nearby). We didn't mind because we went to Isla Mujeres to relax. There is a variety of excursions and tours that you can take. We opted for a whale shark tour and loved it. However, on the day that we went, it was really windy and the waves were large and we (and other people in our boat and other boats too) got a little seasick. Sports fishing is also very popular. For people who prefer to stay on land, there is a little market right outside the hotel as well as bars and restaurants. The only downfall that I can think of is that the hotel is kinda far from the Cancun airport. You have to take a shuttle (US$20/person) or taxi (around US$50) from the airport to Puerto Juarez then a ferry to Isla Mujeres (US$6/person one way). We chose the shuttle but I'm not sure we'd do that again... The driver was kinda slow and we had to stop at least 5 times to drop off other tourists on the way to Puerto Juarez. Once on the island, you can take a taxi, rent a golf cart or walk. We chose to walk thinking that the hotel would be really close but it's not exactly close (a good 10-15 min walk), especially when you're carrying suitcases of wheels on cracked and uneven sidewalks with tons of tourists and locals everywhere to slow you down. It's not that bad to walk but I would have liked to know ahead of time. The hotel does offer a private shuttle (which is a taxi) and we chose that option when we left. It was much more convenie Read more
"Great hotel, retro design"
Excellent location, VERY spacious rooms ("apartments" is more likely to describe it). Very nice 80s design style. Note that the hotel is adjacent to a school, especially if you like to sleep in in the morning.
"Relaxing mini vacation"
Privilege Aluxes Isla Mujeres was a perfect location and facilty for a get away. We loved the beach, the staff was greatr, and the location was perfect. The breakfasts were fabulous. We had an ant problem in our bathroom but dealt with it-I would rate 10 out of 10 and highly recomend.
"Romantic Getaway"
My wife and I had a very good time. It was a very romantic getaway with a jacuzzi on our balcony and canopy beds throughout the resort. The grounds and the room were beautiful. The reasons I did not give it a five. Was the food was not spectacular, but we chose not to do the all inclusive and enjoyed the local restaurants immensely and when we ran the […] jacuzzi, it was leaking water into our bathroom. "Great Hotel.... in a great location!"
We were bumped up to an apartment as we were staying for 5 days. It was palatial! The hotel itself is in a great location near the ferry and on the best beach (north). It's also a stones throw from the town which is a little gem, with lots of small craft stores, restaurants and cafes....We didn't use the pool which looked very nice, as the beach was […] lovely! The massage in the hotel was expensive and not great and breakfast sometimes was a bit scattered service wise but really good otherwise, lots of fresh fruit, omelettes breads cheeses smoked salmon.....yum! .....Stay here! "Almost sad we didn't stay longer..."
We were recommended to Aluxes by my sister-in-law, and what a great find! We were upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette (but no pots/pans/utensils, just things for coffee... we never used it so I have no idea if you can request these things from the hotel) with a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool. The materials and decor in the place were impeccable […] and modernist. I did note the "musty" smell, but it didn't bother me- comes with being in the more humid climate. Everything was beautifully clean. The pool isn't heated, which during some parts of the year, makes it too cool for swimming. The attached hotel beach isn't that great, but you can walk just around the corner to Playa Norte if you like. Otherwise, you can use the palapas and chairs that are included with your hotel cost. Also, the included breakfast buffet is quite nice- all sorts of hot and cold offerings, both Mexican and American style breakfast. Delicious! Read more

"Luxury and understated elegance-well located"
This gem of hotel helped make our stay on Isla Mujeres a sheer delight. Everything about this moderate sized hotel was perfect, from being greeted at reception with a glass of wine to the beautiful grounds to our modern room with exquisite, clean decor, luxurious linens, a comped mini bar, and a hot tub for two on the balcony was great. The marble bath […] with a huge shower, large vanity, and separate toilet room just added to the experience. The buffet breakfast was very good and the service at breakfast was friendly, courteous, and prompt. The beach accommodations with lounges, tiki huts, cabanas, and the beach side service was great as was the pool area. My husband and I would return to this fabulous hotel in a heartbeat and hope to in the near future! Read more
"Awesome choice, close to everything!"
Incredible rooms very clean, would surely recommend to anyone!
"Very good impression"
It is a fantastic hotel, very close to the heart of Isla Mujeres. The room was not too big, but it was very clean and comfortable. It was a good surprise to see the jacuzzi in the terrace! I definitely recommed this hotel, I won't give top grades though because they did not clean the terrace, the didn't give us shampoo or gel the second night, and the […] only time you can have a tasty hot breakfast is at 7 am. Everything else, excellent, I still dream of their hamacas on the beach... Read more

"excellent location, really nice except one thing"
Excellent location, near all resturants, pabs, walkway, beach in Isla. Really nice rooms - equipt, big, comfortable. What really bugs (....) me is the ants due to not sufficient cleaning - also in the room's kitchen and also in the hotel's restaurant (on all tables).
"Nice hotel in Isla Mujeres"
We were very happy with our stay at Privilege. Please keep in mind when you're booking anything here that this is a small island...in Mexico...and so luxury is all relative. That being said we found the staff to be very friendly, and our room was quite large (more than we needed really). The rooms have a pretty modern feel to them, but they are very […] sparse when you get inside. The basic amenities worked very well, AC, toilet, fridge. The only complaint I had was just a slight musty smell in the room, but again, not a huge deal. While the hotel is NOT right on the beach the rooms do have a decent ocean view, and the private beach is right near by with nice chairs and decent waitstaff. Keep in mind their beach is pretty close to the main port so there's a lot of boats going nearby and the strip of beach as a whole gets pretty crowded with tourists and locals alike. We tend to like the fun atmosphere but if you're looking for a secluded stretch of sand this hotel isn't it. Though the less crowded playa norte is within walking distance. Overall we couldn't have been happier with the hotel and isla mujeres in general, while some folks think it's just a day trip island we enjoyed the slower pace and more local vibe versus Cancun or played out Playa del Carmen. "3 nights on the island"
Check in was unorganized and chaotic. We paid for an ocean view and they gave us a view of a tree. After notifying them that this was unacceptable, they did change us to an ocean view room. Location is great, right on Playa Norte. Big problem with the jacuzzi tub. There was black mold growing in the jets. We happened to be in the room 2 of the 3 days […] when they came to clean it and they never even glanced at the tub, let alone attempted to clean it. Not good. The live music on the beach at night was great. Read more
"Privilege Aluxes Isla Mujeres"
If you are looking for a great relaxing get away place in Mexico, this is it. The Isla Mujeras may not be the place for night clubs, but for relaxing and romantic it's perfect. Privilege Aluxes is at the top of the list for places to stay. It has one of the nicest and cleanest beaches at the most northern tip. Easy walk to the main shopping and the […] private beach. The staff was everything you could want, from the front desk, bellman, to the waiters and housekeeping. Stop for a message at the spa as well, you won't regret it. One of the best I have ever had and hands down better than those offer on the beach. Read more

"Fun in Isla"
Isla still remains a great place for a relaxing sun filled vacation. The beach and pools are the highlight, along with the local food (I would avoid all inclusive packages for the food part, although the continuous flow of drinks can be an advantage, or not. ) We prefer to eat on the ferry road or on HIdalgo. We had a nice meal at Mango Cafe, and of […] course the best Tix N Chix at Playa Lancheros. The golf carts are now way too expensive, but worth at least one day. I feel the people on the island are starting to suffer from tourist stress and are a tiny bit less friendly than the old days. This hotel is very swanky, but can and does have a bit of a sewer smell (Management is aware of it but just can't seem to fix it). Some rooms are worse than others, they'll move you if you ask. We had a beautiful room and tried to not think about the smell. It's still a very nice hotel, pool, breakfast and beach area. And in a perfect location. I wouldn't let the possible smell stop you, we will stay there again. Hopefully they'll have it figured out by then. I'm happy we went, stayed in the Aluxes and I wish I was there right now. Overall a nice hotel/rooms in a good location. Rooms: I was very happy with my room. I took a standard non-ocean view for a very good rate. The standard rooms are essentially the bed, desk, TV, a big bathroom (with a huge shower), and limited living space (had a balcony with hot tub, which was nice). That was fine for me (no one else in the room with […] me). Clean, feels new/modern, and the maid kept restocking the bottled water, which is key. The room faced the back of the hotel but was high enough (3rd floor, which was really 4th) that I could still see the ocean (not many high rises on Isla Mujeres and the island is narrow, so I could see the ocean on both sides of the island). Other rooms (for more money) are essentially full apartments. Other guests were disappointed that the hotel considers an ocean view to be the same as ocean side of the hotel (cannot sea the ocean from a first/second floor ocean-view). You need to be a few floors up to be able to see the ocean, rather than the pool. The pool area is very nice, but was it was hot when I was there. The hotel area of the beach was my preference (nice breeze, one day it was a bit too breezy) and generally had no probs getting a chaise. Food: I did not do the all-inclusive. The breakfast was included with non-inclusive and was only ok (good cappuccino), the lunch available on the beach was hit or miss. Overall, if you’re a foodie like me (who also doesn’t drink a lot on the beach), I would recommend not doing the all-inclusive. There are good places to eat 1 block over in Isla Mujeres The crowd at the hotel skews to middle-age adult with few children. There was a loud wedding group while I was there, occasionally too loud for my taste at the pool bar, but nothing off the wall crazy. The neighborhood definitely caters to western tourists, but doesn’t feel overly-commercialized. Small, locally (or American expatriate) owned restaurants. It’s not Cancun (which is what I wanted), but still convenient to get to and Read more

"WE LOVE ISLA!!!"
This was our 6th year in Isla and our first time at Privilege Aluxes. We loved the hotel!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was great! It was so big and roomy and we loved the jacuzzi on the deck. The food was great and we loved the 24 hour snack and drink hours. We also loved sitting on the beach and being waited on for food and drinks. […] Very relaxing. We also loved the 3 bars. The gardens were beautiful also and the location is great. We will definately be back next year!! Read more

"bad service....wonderful room"
really one of the nicer rooms I've ever stayed in and I travel quite a bit...but the amount of "fat" americans (not to be taken literally) here and the staff who are sick of dealing with them (can't say I blame them) make this hotel only average. They should really have separate hotels for people from Texas.
"Privelege Aluxes-great proximity to the beach"
. The breakfast buffet was nice. Our bellman, Jaime was very helpful. He recommended 2 restaurants that we absolutely love. The hotel has great proximity to the beach and downtown. We had a nice stay. Will go back.
"Great Hotel but there are problems!"
Privilege Aluxes was a lovely hotel with an excellent layout and facilities and it actually turned out to be one of our favourite hotels of our 3 week trip. The hotel has a modern minimalist decor that is rare in the area. It was spotlessly clean and the staff were consistently friendly. The pool area was particularly nice with hidden private feeling […] jacuzzis. The breakfast was fine and generous but nothing outstanding. There were a couple of downsides that I feel I have to discuss here. Firstly the airport transfer that we naively arranged through the hotel was grossly over-priced, it was around 10 times what you might pay if you did it all yourself!! We booked it for ease but actually it would be really easy to do it all yourself. So avoid this. Also the first room we were allocated was in on the top floor of a block where the lift was not working. We asked to be moved somewhere the lift was working which was done relatively promptly but by this point we had been travelling for 18 hours so was annoying. The view from the balcony was a let down (graveyard and delivery area) but the hot tub made up for it. Overall a nice hotel but our first impressions were marred by the costs of the transfer (when we realised how short the journey is) and the lack of lift. Read more

The beach and bar staff were wonderful. Housekeeping staff were very thorough. Room service food could have been warmer although food arrived in a timely manner or when promised. This a very laid back island so if you want a fast paced night life this is not the place for you. The beach restaurant had fantastic food. Hated to leave. I would definitely […] come back. Read more

"Nice hotel, awkward staff, very noisy"
I've stayed on Isla many times, so I'm aware that this island is certainly not filled with resorts and top-quality service, which, I think, is a big part of it's charm. This was the nicest hotel I've stayed in on Isla - by far the nicest property in the North Beach area. They did a really terrific job on the design and layout and the beach is really […] gorgeous. They've almost got it down, but there are a few very easy fixes that would have made our stay infinitely more enjoyable. 1) The pool bar needed to lower the volume in the morning, especially when there wasn't anyone at the bar. Between all of the beach clubs, it was crazy noisy on the beach, so the pool was the only quiet spot available. There was almost no one at the pool and everyone was reading, so blasting the music was really inappropriate. 2) The breakfast steam table food and the coffee were ice cold, every morning. The omelets, fresh squeezed juice and fruit were very good though. 3) The front desk staff may have been the nicest people in the world, but I don't think we ever got a single smile from any of them. The housekeeping staff, spa staff and the pool guys were nice as could be though. I love Isla Mujeres and the hotel pool is wonderful, so I would definitely stay again. I would be able to recommend it to other people more wholeheartedly if they just made a few easy adjustments. Read more

"Käytännössä upea hotelli, mutta paljon pikkuvikoja"
5 tähden hotelli, käytännössä kyllä, mutta esim. 5 tähden hotellissa luulisi olevan seinät kunnolla maalattu huoneessa. Muita ei hyviä asioita: huoneissa huono äänieristys, esim. huoneiden ovien sulkemisesta syntyy kova ääni ja käytävästä kaikki kuuluu huoneesees ja varmasti toisinkin päin, huoneita erottaa väliovi, missä ihan yhtä huono äänieristys […] huoneiden välillä ja mikäli huone sattuu olemaan kadun puolella, niin vastapäätä on joku lastentarha, josta alkaa kuulua meteliä aikaisin, jopa megafoniin puhumista pitkät tovit klo 7 aamulla. Huonesiivouksesta: siivooja söi banaanimme ja jätti banaaninkuoren hyllylle, emmekä saaneet vettä joka kerta, joten piti itse respasta hakea. Ilmastointia vaikea säätää sopivaksi ja puhalsi suoraan sänkyyn. Huoneessa huono internet-yhteys. Meitä kohtaan ainakin rantabaarissa huonointa palvelua ikinä! Aamupalalla eri tarjoilijat kyselevät huoneen numeroa useaan kertaan, mikä alkaa pitemmän päälle tuntua epämiellyttävältä. Poreamme ei toiminut huoneesa. Hyviä puolia: upea allasosasto! Erinomainen aamupala! Read more

Hotel.Comで予約したおかげか良い部屋に案内されて本当に良かったです。

The location is great as the hotel is located at the beach. The view from the hotel was also excellent. The morning buffet is great and has great variety of dishes. The service at hotel was ok. The only negative part is that they did gave us the wrong room but they changed it immediately when we complained. We will definitely recommend it.

"We loved this hotel!"
This was a perfect hotel for us. We stayed in a Deluxe-suite with ocean view, and it was very nice and big! More like an appartment actually. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. We have stayed in several hotels in Mexico, and this is by far the best we have stayed in! Only negative thing about this hotel is that the reception area don`t […] live up to the rest of the hotel. It doesn`t seem very clean and gives a bad first impression compared to how nice the rest of the hotel is! Breakfast was very good, and also we had lunch in the beach restaurant/bar almost every day of our stay, and it was great. The hotel is located in Playa Norte, and it`s said to be the nicest beach on the island and we think it is! We really recommend Isla Mujeres for your next holiday, and Privilege Aluxes is the right hotel to choose! Read more
