The hotel was very convenient access to road, but was an older hotel that needs renovation. However, it was clean and the location with relationship to beach and sunset views was wonderful. Everyone was very nice that worked there.

The hotel is older and dated but well-situated to Kiptopeke and other places. My room was bit rough for the price paid with damp carpet and moldy smell but the bed was comfortable, breakfast was decent and the beachfront bar was nice (though expensive.) I would return as your choices are limited in the area.

The owners are nice and helpful. However, the rooms really need to be updated. Moreover, we had the unusual experience of finding a condom in one of the drawer. The second night people next to our room were very noisy up to 3 am in the morning. The cons are it is very close to the beach and the renovated swimming pool is nice

Nous avions réservé ici pour faire une étape avant le passage du pont-tunnel. Ce passage est d'un petit intérêt car contrairement à ce qui est indiqué sur certains forums, on ne peut pas s'arrêter pour admirer et prendre des photos. Dans les environs de l'hôtel, il n'y a rien, juste un sper marché qui nous a permis de faire un repas dans la chambre. Il y a un restaurant-grill en bord de mer, malheureusement les odeurs de gras sont trop importantes. Et pourtant le paysage de la cote est très joli;

호텔의 서비스와 상태는 매우 좋지 않았다. 냉장고도 작동되지 않았고, 청결하지 않았다. 하지만 걸어서 아름다운 해변으로 갈 수 있었고, 주변이 조용하고 아름다웠다.

Prima gelegen hotel, met strand vlakbij. Jaren 70-stijl moet aangepakt worden. Klemmende deuren, muffe lucht, oude badkamer. Van buiten goed in de verf: van binnen sleets. Slecht ontbijt met brooodjes met schimmel en buitengewoon karig. Wel aardige mensen, maar wij komen hier niet terug.

"No so much an Inn as a nightmare on 13 south in VA."
06/30/15 fizzylizzy123 Little Falls, New York
Very old hotel, needs major updating. Repairs need to be done to several areas; for one the 2nd floor EXIT sign is broken and has a birds nest in it with major bird poop built up under it. Doors do not fit into frame. Can be easily kicked in even with the locks in place. Only portable air conditioners in the lobby and breakfast rooms. Slim pickings for breakfast. The mini frig was a little soiled and there was a loose wire just hanging loose inside. The microwave had to be lifted off the frig and carried to a workable outlet as the cord was not long enough to reach the one the frig was plugged in. The next morning we had no water to bathe or flush the toilet. I felt that because I reserved the room via a 3 party the hotel gave us a bum room. The only thing good was it was quiet.

"Not what we expected!"

We found the facilities to be a bit dumpy and in serious need of renovations. The room had a funky smell, like old, stale smoke, even though it was a nonsmoking room. The room was dark. A fresh coat of paint would do a lot. And get rid of the peeling wallpaper! The beach was a bit dirty. Lots of motorboats near the shore blaring music and talking too loudly. If you want anything not fried, the restaurant was not good. And it was 15 minutes from Cape Charles. If you go, expect an outdated motel and RV Park, not a waterfront resort.

"Beautiful sunset view from my room!"
06/23/15 mws504 Fenwick Island, Delaware
The room was very nice. The reception from the front desk, Pat, was exceptional. The only negative was that I tried to eat at the Sunset Grille. Looking forward to dinner and the sunset, but the owner was yelling at an employee and when I confronted him that his behavior was very upsetting, he threw his arms in the air repeatedly and stormed out of the room. I did not have any dinner.

"More a way of life than a hotel"
06/11/15 saxisflyboy Saxis, Virginia
To all the folks panning this place and calling it a motel, yeah, that's what it is. Welcome to the Virginia Eastern Shore. If you thought you were getting South Beach, the problem is you just failed to understand where it was you were going. This kind of sums up what the shore is all about. It works, it keeps you off the ground, it's reasonably comfortable, and you shouldn't be spending time indoors anyways. Prices are extremely affordable. I paid $80 for a room during the summer (weekday). The room was plenty comfortable. Even though it's only an hour or so south of where I live, it was convenient for an early morning fishing trip I took. I was very glad I stayed and was able to see the progress that the new owners have made with this property. The location is beautiful--right at the tip of the Eastern Shore, just before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. There's literally nothing around but US 13 and pristine nature. The new owners are extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They really care, and it shows. The housekeepers I came into contact with were also very friendly. They let me check in well early on Monday. The only drawback is that the Grille is closed Monday and Tuesday (that's their weekend), but I've been plenty for the live music, and it's always a good time. I was planning to eat at the Cape Center (now known as Sting-Ray's) anyways, and at the Great Machipongo Clam Shack, both of which are easy drives from the property. When I was stationed in Norfolk, I had a tradition of coming here after a particularly long week of flying, or whenever the carrier came back into port, just to relax for a few days. I stayed here as a teenager right before I soloed out of Campbell Field Airport in Weirwood. Yeah, I have biased memories. But... no matter what, you're not paying a lot of money, and you're getting a fine room. There are some super cheap motels up the road (no, there is nothing in the immediate proximity except the Shore Stay Suites), but you won't get the beach, the Grille, or the grounds. Not even a pool, if my memory serves me correctly. If you live like a Kardashian, or even the typical whitebread/yuppie who isn't looking to get back to your primal human outdoor roots, what the heck are you even doing on the Virginia Shore? You made a wrong turn somewhere. Keep driving through. For the rest of us, this place is solid. A two-day vacation that I absolutely needed, and under $100. Good for families and kids. Good for couples. Good for solo fishermen. I'd say good for business travelers too (as there is decent quality working WiFi in the rooms now), but what business are you coming to conduct here?

My favorite vacation place on the Eastern shore. The staff is professional, friendly, and helpful. There is a nice beach area, a restaurant on the water, clean rooms, video games, and pet-friendly. Quiet beach retreat, non-commercial, reasonably priced, nature areas nearby to explore for adventure or tranquility.

"You Get What You Overpay For"
05/25/15 Kevin A Delaware City, United States
Location is everything and the Sunset Beach Inn corners the market on its location at the east end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The Sunset Inn is a mere 18 miles from Virginia Beach, immediately across the street from the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge that includes the World War Two gun battery casemate on former site of Fort John Custis, a short ride from Kiptopeke State Park and just down the road from Victorian railroad town Cape Charles. My stay at the Sunset Inn was limited as I did not check in until 11 PM and left immediately after breakfast. As such, I did not get to use pool or lounge on the beach. I was encouraged to find the front desk fully staffed and check in was rapid and uncomplicated. There was plenty of parking both in front and behind the Inn. My room was clean, spacious and had an adequate supply of towels, soap and shampoo. The bed was comfortable, albeit without a blanket or comforter. Still, it made for a comfortable night's sleep. The room was equipped with a little coffee machine, hair dryer, ironing board and iron -- though I would have expected the latter to have been mounted in the cabinet instead of on the wall in the bathroom area. The actual bathroom had an American standard non-reservoir toilet that was more appropriate for a public restroom. The tiles there were in good repair. The tub was likely the original iron and enamel tub with a lot of recent re-calking. The bathroom door was difficult to close and needed a good shot of oil. The door was possibly suffering from rusty hinges or hinges that have been painted too many times. The room had standard picture tube television, certainly not a high definition set. Not all cable stations, as advertised in the handout, were available on the television. The room also had a banquet chair against the wall. Having only seen one room, I do not know if this is a fixture of each unit, or something that just found its way in the room at the request of a prior occupant. There was no microwave or refrigerator. However, there was a note in the welcome brochure that noted they could be requested and provided if available. The Sunset Inn is a motel that dreams of becoming a hotel. It is definitely a throwback to 1960s architecture. There has been a lot of visible effort to maintain the facility. The building suffers from age, sandy foundation, proximity to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Weekend rates are pricey, double the off peak rate. Continental breakfast that was a little more than I expected, but way less than you would find at a chain hotel. I would likely stop at the Sunset Inn again during a longer weekday visit so as to better sample the recreation offered -- at a significantly lower off peak rate.

Pathetic...Its like a motel. DON'T Waste your time and Money. Private beach is more marketing. My kids are like, Dad , This place sucks. Food was ok but overall, its disappointing. We are not going back to this place. Not sure, how its still running.

Clean and quiet. Obviously in refurb process. Efficient front desk. Though our room faced the highway, noise did not intrude. Pleasant tree lined walk to the Grill with very good wait staff. Good value for the single night stay. Will stay again when in the area.

The room did not have a microwave. For the price I think there should have been one.The other thing Is the walk from car to room was somewhat long, and the ice machine also. Other than that the staff was wonderful, and the stay was great I would stay again would stay in the suites next time
