"Treat yourself to stately country home living"
Lovely grounds, delicious food, friendly hosts, welcoming rooms made for an exceptionally nice stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We really enjoyed our stay. From arrival, dinner, the room, breakfast and departure: we were made to feel very welcome. Probably the best dinner we've had in a hotel. We will be back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very welcoming hostelry, good food, great location and well presented roomsGenuine Expedia guest review
I stay in many different hotels due to my job and have often seen them say that 'nothing is too much trouble' but until now, that hadn't been the case. The owners were delightful and managed to hit that fine line of being attentive enough but not overbearing. The food really was great, all home cooked and very tasty. Definitely somewhere we will return […] to if we're in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great surroundings, they have obviously put a lot of effort into this business. Expect what you'd expect in a 5* hotel excluding a separate shower in the bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hard to fault - very comfortable - bedroom doors are directly on to an outdoor path mews style and you have to walk across to the main house to eat - I arrived late and was still able to get something to eat, excellent wine, lovely ambience in the restaurant and lounge, comfortable if well used beds, spacious bedrooms, poorly signed when you arrive […] but easy parking. "Excellent - As usual"
I really can't fault this hotel. I stay away a lot on business and have yet to come accross anywhere as good as this. The welcome is warm, the rooms are lovely and every possible requirement has been taken care of down to a full set of alternative toiletries in the bathroom. I'll be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Business and pleasure"
As a woman travelling alone I was made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable. The owners are truly hospitable and have a fine eye for details - all sorts of little extras to make sure your stay is a real pleasure. My dinner was delicious and the surroundings were delightful. I would highly recommend Clow Beck to any one staying in the area - why […] settle for staying in a chain hotel when when you can stay here and get so much more? My only regret was that I stayed in Autumn so didn't get the benefits of the lovely gardens after a long day at work. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
What a beautiful setting, idyllic. The rooms were lovely and the service excellent from the Armstrongs. This was a business trip but I shall most certainly return for leisure! Food was super and such a wide choice for both breakfast and evening meals. Fab!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Couldn't have been better!"
At first I thought the hotel was a bit pricey for a guest house however, I do believe that you get what you pay for and in this case it was no different! Heather and Paul were wonderful hosts! The room was clean, comfortable and had everything you could hope for for an overnight stay! The food was fantastic with everything being locally sourced and […] fresh! My only disappointment was that I forgot to ask Heather for her shortbread recipe - they were amazing!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I have previously used the Clow Beck when on business trips in the North East and always regarded it as my little secret. Somewhere to get away from it all and have a proper bit of down time in excellent surroundings and with the most amenable of hosts. This time I used it for leisure purposes as I wanted to treat a friend of mine to a night of comfort […] as he is walking John O'Groats to Lands End. Suffice to say we were treated to exceptional hospitality, generous portions of proper home cooked food and a room where all needs have been catered for. He hit the road completely refreshed. Clow Beck House has it right in so many areas that you cannot get in chain hotels, and I cannot recommend this place too highly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Top Drawer - A Must Stay"

There probably isn't much more more that can said about Clow Beck House that hasn't already been said so I'll keep this short and sweet. The place is phenomenal from the minute you are welcomed by Heather and David to the minute you depart, you are made to feel as though you have stayed here a hundred times & nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are immaculate and equipped with everything you need from robes to toothpaste. Breakfast is one of the best I have EVER had with made to order quality locally sourced produce. Quite simply, If you want a tranquil relaxing peaceful comfortable stay in idyllic surroundings with top drawer hosts, then this is the place for you. Visit Clow Beck House, you will not be disappointed,
"We Love the Clow Beck!!"

My family and I stayed at the Clow Beck for 5 nights. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The food in the restaurant is wonderful. All of the food is fresh and is cooked to order. The included breakfast is plentiful. While my husband worked in Darlington, my children and I stayed around the hotel. I cannot tell you how wonderful Heather, David, and their staff were to us. My boys enjoyed the playground and running around in the large, beautiful garden. We would definitely go back!

We booked the Clow Beck as a result of the great feedback on Trip advisor and stayed for two nights in a family room. The welcome we received from Heather and David was warm and friendly as if we had known them for ages, we were offered drinks and home made shortbread in the lounge which was a really nice room. We then went to our room which was spotless, again a really high standard of decoration and the room had everything you could possibly want, with a dressing room, dressing gowns and nice bathroom with complimentary toiletries if required. The beds were very comfortable and on the first night we ate in the restaurant. The food was excellent lovely portions of vegetables and potatoes, juicy steaks, and also really tasty chicken and pork dishes. The dessert was a course too far for me, but my Wife and Children said they were lovely. In the morning the breakfast was incredible, lovely made to order cooked breakfasts, very generous portions and again served with a smile and warmth from the host. Due to the poor weather David suggested many different local attractions to visit prior to the main reason for the trip the One Direction concert in Sunderland. The amazing thing was not only did he take time to suggest different activities whilst we were eating Breakfast he printed out details of the attractions for us to take with us to help fill our day, what great customer service. The following morning we had a repeat of the cooked breakfast experience and the brown toast is a must. In closing I would say that the experience we had was the same as all the other feedback, great service, a very warm welcome from Heather and David, lots of very nice touches, the puzzles on the tables are a great idea, but most of all if you want to feel like you are staying at a friends, and not being processed by a hotel chain this is the place for you !

I literally can't say enough good things about Clowbeck. This was the second time staying here and just as fantastic as the first. I stayed with my boyfriend and my mum and dad for her 60th birthday and the night was perfect. Heather and David are the most welcoming hosts, so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. You can enjoy tea and home-made shortbread in a beautiful lounge with a cosy fire. The food is some of the best I've had the pleasure of eating, I could eat the duo of salmon starter everyday! The home-made ice creams and sorbets are extremely delicious. The rooms are beautifully decorated with every little detail thought out, comfortable beds, tea, juice, chocolates, dressing gowns and more shortbread! Overall one of the most perfect places to spend a night.
"Home from Home (but better!!)"

We've stayed at CB a number of occasions. Some special times and some just because we've wanted to treat ourselves. It's a very special place where hosts David and Heather warmly welcome you with hand made biscuits and fresh coffee (or tea). Retire and relax in one of the individual rooms, we are currently making our way through staying in them all! Then enjoy, no indulge in the menu, which is just a suggestion, ask and you normally you get. Then bed and in the morning brisk walk and a fantastic breakfast, brilliant selection of the healthy and well, let's say indulgent. All at a great price, so don't just look, GO you won't be disappointed.
"Fantastic Place to Stay."

I only stayed here because my usual Darlington hotel was full. What a lucky break! I could not really fault anything fromm the time I was welcomed with a drink and a snack in the lounge until I checked out. The quality of the food was excellent and the portions substantial. The room was large and clean as was the bathroom. I was constantly surprised by the little touches that worked and kept a smile on my face the whole while I was there. Hopefully my normal hotel is full next time too.
"Little bit of Heaven"

Shall start off by warning you all that this review is quite biased as this is one of my most favourite places to stay - ever! Heather and David are perfect hosts, the accommodation is first class: clean and comfortable with some lovely, little luxurious extra touches, the grounds are beautifully set out, well presented and well maintained and the food is just divine! If you have never paid a visit to 'Clowbeck House' then I urge you to try it out, you will not be disappointed! I think the best time to go is in June, the village has a 'scarecrow' contest at this time of the year and if the weather is kind then you will surely have a most enjoyable visit.
"Fantastic, one of the nicest places I have stayed"
03/23/14 Hamish M
Without doubt this must be one of the finest establishments in Britain. Spotlessly clean, wonderful hosts and excellent food served in a delightful dining room overlooking the gardens. We had a good sized bedroom with a large en suite plus a dressing room. Pre dinner drinks were served in a comfortable lounge with an open fire and the owners go that extra mile to make sure that every need is catered for. If you have the opportunity or need to stay in the area try this place first, you will not be disappointed.
"Can't praise this enough"

We had a wonderful two night stay. It started with a warm welcome by Heather who ushered into a lovely drawing room with a fire where we were served with tea and home made biscuits. We stayed in 'Bluebell' which was beautifully furnished and so comfortable. Nothing was too much for our hosts (David even taxied us to our evening out!). I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for accommodation in the area. We will definitely return.
"Fantastic stay, beautiful setting"
02/25/14 Christie M Brighton, United Kingdom
Stayed here recently with the whole family and had an absolutely fantastic time! Loved the setting and the way the rooms were laid out. All the rooms were a large size, and the beds were the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. Heather and David were really lovely and accommodating - Nothing ever was too much to ask. The food was lovely too. Overall, we had a splendid weekend and I would recommend this to anyone.
