"Brilliant Guest House!!"
I was met in the car park and taken to my room when I arrived. The rooms are big and the beds are very comfortable. Complimentary home made shortbread with your tea and coffee everyday. There was a walk in wardrobe in my room along with an excellent sized bathroom. The main dining area had a huge Christmas tree set up which was decorated beautifully […] with an open fire on the other end of the room. The food was fantastic and the portions were a good size and reasonably priced. The lounge area had an open fire with books available to read, a TV,a piano, and chess board. Service was very friendly and they couldn't do enough for me. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone for business or pleasure. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dress shirt disaster!"
Great stay, David helped pull me out of a predicament that went above and beyond the call of duty, when he leant me his prized antique gold shirt buttons for my dress shirt, that I’d only just realised I'd left at home, with literarily only a few hours to go before the ball! So okay it wasn’t a complete make over and a new dress, but it did mean I managed […] to attend. Thanks again Dave! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed here three or four times now and it is always consistently good with a warm welcome, excellent food, and a comfortable immaculate bedroom. A top place to visit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"So good I overslept!"
Stayed one night as a business stopover, absolutely stunning surroundings with well kept gardens. I didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening . On arrival I was offered a tray of fresh coffee and homemade shortbread. The room was full of little personal touches that you don't often see, especially not in big chains. The bed was so comfy I overslept […] ! Very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious, fresh orange juice, selection of cereals and fruit etc and then a wide variety of hot choices from the menu. I can thoroughly recommend the full English, the sausages being particularly yummy ! Will definitely return and hopefully with husband as a leisure break rather than business. "One Of the Best"
This is a lovely little guest house owned and run by people who really care about customer service and satisfaction. Would strongly recomend it if you are passingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We really enjoyed our stay. From arrival, dinner, the room, breakfast and departure: we were made to feel very welcome. Probably the best dinner we've had in a hotel. We will be back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Guest House"
A fantastic weekend, probably the best stay we have had in a guest house! absolutely the best. Could not do enough for us as guests. Food exceptional.. Not going to say anymore but can't rate them high enough. We are now looking for an excuse to go back to Darlington!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Very welcoming hostelry, good food, great location and well presented roomsGenuine Expedia guest review
I stay in many different hotels due to my job and have often seen them say that 'nothing is too much trouble' but until now, that hadn't been the case. The owners were delightful and managed to hit that fine line of being attentive enough but not overbearing. The food really was great, all home cooked and very tasty. Definitely somewhere we will return […] to if we're in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great surroundings, they have obviously put a lot of effort into this business. Expect what you'd expect in a 5* hotel excluding a separate shower in the bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hard to fault - very comfortable - bedroom doors are directly on to an outdoor path mews style and you have to walk across to the main house to eat - I arrived late and was still able to get something to eat, excellent wine, lovely ambience in the restaurant and lounge, comfortable if well used beds, spacious bedrooms, poorly signed when you arrive […] but easy parking. "Excellent - As usual"
I really can't fault this hotel. I stay away a lot on business and have yet to come accross anywhere as good as this. The welcome is warm, the rooms are lovely and every possible requirement has been taken care of down to a full set of alternative toiletries in the bathroom. I'll be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Business and pleasure"
As a woman travelling alone I was made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable. The owners are truly hospitable and have a fine eye for details - all sorts of little extras to make sure your stay is a real pleasure. My dinner was delicious and the surroundings were delightful. I would highly recommend Clow Beck to any one staying in the area - why […] settle for staying in a chain hotel when when you can stay here and get so much more? My only regret was that I stayed in Autumn so didn't get the benefits of the lovely gardens after a long day at work. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
What a beautiful setting, idyllic. The rooms were lovely and the service excellent from the Armstrongs. This was a business trip but I shall most certainly return for leisure! Food was super and such a wide choice for both breakfast and evening meals. Fab!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Couldn't have been better!"
At first I thought the hotel was a bit pricey for a guest house however, I do believe that you get what you pay for and in this case it was no different! Heather and Paul were wonderful hosts! The room was clean, comfortable and had everything you could hope for for an overnight stay! The food was fantastic with everything being locally sourced and […] fresh! My only disappointment was that I forgot to ask Heather for her shortbread recipe - they were amazing!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I have previously used the Clow Beck when on business trips in the North East and always regarded it as my little secret. Somewhere to get away from it all and have a proper bit of down time in excellent surroundings and with the most amenable of hosts. This time I used it for leisure purposes as I wanted to treat a friend of mine to a night of comfort […] as he is walking John O'Groats to Lands End. Suffice to say we were treated to exceptional hospitality, generous portions of proper home cooked food and a room where all needs have been catered for. He hit the road completely refreshed. Clow Beck House has it right in so many areas that you cannot get in chain hotels, and I cannot recommend this place too highly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely location, lovely rooms, superb service"
12/22/14 HelenW017 High Peak, Derbyshire
We stayed overnight at Clow Beck House as it was close to where we were attending a surprise party and Clow Beck lived up to the excellent reviews on this site. Dave and Heather were wonderfully helpful and just attentive enough to not make you feel encroached on but they couldn't have done any more for us. We were struggling for a taxi so Dave very kindly drove us to the local pub where our party was and gave us the details or a local reliable taxi to get us back. We were actually slightly disappointed that we weren't staying to eat in as the menu looked great and when we had breakfast the following morning I can only imagine the food is great for dinner. We will definately be back to enjoy Clow Beck in the future.
"Fantastic experience - great place ran by lovely people"

Stayed here on business. The couple who run it offer an exceptional service, and clearly take a lot of pride in what they do. The welcome was fantastic. The rooms are very comfortable with great beds, and nice personal, home-made touches such as biscuits and chocolates. Accommodation comprises the main house, and outbuildings (bungalows) with three rooms. All looks over fields with an amazing view that makes a lovely and peaceful atmosphere. Liked the snug bar area where you can enjoy a drink before dinner. Dinner was excellent. Overall a really nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend for business or couples place to stay. Will definitely return!

"Our first visit, but not the last."

Very difficult to fault in anyway, it just doesn`t get any better. The quality of the hotel and the service provided by the owners are exceptional. You are made to feel very welcome with individual treatment, as for example when we arrived early and were treated to coffee and home made shortbread. Heather and David have a tremendous eye for detail and the restoration work on the property is of the highest standard. I understand stone was sourced from mills in Bradford and roof beams from a defunct old building in Newcastle. They put just as much effort and thought into looking after their guests.
This was our second stay at Clow Beck this year and it has been perfect every time. The rooms are beautifully decorated and lovely and warm & the little details are delightful such as a little box of chocolates in the room alongside robes & slippers and a box of delicious homemade shortbread. The food (dinner and breakfast) are wonderful with a wide choice available. The gardens surrounding Clow Beck are beautiful and overall it is a fantastic place which we love visiting. Perfect weekend.

We have just spent 3 nights with our friends at this wonderful place. It is unique. Just everything about it oozes love and care. Heather and David are great hosts, always making you feel you are the only ones that matter. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you could possibly need. The home made shortbread, the box of chocolates a really lovely touch. The breakfasts and dinners are delicious and nothing is too much trouble. (The only thing I would say is starve for a week before you go!!) The location is idyllic and the gardens peaceful. There is nothing more I can say except go and experience this lovely place.
"Another lovely visit..."

We have just returned from our third visit to Clow Beck and are pleased to report that everything is as wonderful as ever. It is a beautifully unique find, offering everything you would expect from a top class hotel, delivered in a wonderful relaxed and friendly manor. We have never found anything quite like it. From afternoon tea in the lounge to the beautifully appointed rooms to a wonderful dining room with fantastic menu all perfectly cooked there is no praise high enough for Heather and David and the amazing Clow Beck House. I really don't know how they manage to deliver such impeccable service in a way that enables you to feel pampered and special and yet, at the same time, one of the family but I wish other hotels could learn to do it too. Thank you so much for a brilliant stay and we really hope to see you both soon.

I have stayed here many times in the last 20 years and I have yet to find anywhere else that I have stayed ,in that time ,to equal it.I could say how comfortable the rooms are , how delicious the food is or how warm the welcome is, but these would only be words . To fully appreciate this establishment you have to experience it and a visit should be on anyones list of things to do before they die . Thanks again Mr and Mrs Armstrong .
"Too good to miss"
10/13/14 operamaker York, United Kingdom
Having driven for years through Croft on Tees and admiring its wonderful setting and its bridge over the river, I had never stayed there before this last weekend. My job before I retired took me all over England, staying at various hotels, often highly rated in terms of stars. If I could have found anywhere as good as Clow Beck House, I would have been delighted. David, Heather and their family and staff could not be more welcoming. The place is delightful, with its lovingly tended garden full of interesting and sometimes quirky features. The rooms are immaculately clean, comfortable and stylish. But it is the welcome and the food that stand out. We were there for a birthday party, eight of us in all, and we could not have been better fed or better cossetted. What an absolute delight! Just too good to miss.
