Heaven on earth and then some! Our recent stay (2/7-2/10) at The Beloved Hotel was exceptional! My friend and I were looking for a quiet spot to have a get away from our busy lives. Our room was not ready so we headed to Isla Grill and enjoyed a fabalous lunch and a few cocktails. Pablo, the manager, exemplified perfection in service. We checked out the breathtaking beach and met Alex, the beach waiter. He was amazing and accomodating throughout our stay. The spa is luxurious and The Aqua Vita (free service with a treatment) was fun and relaxing. The spa was the best we have ever experienced in our 20 years of traveling together. The food was delicious and presented is a very sophisticated manner. It was not a typical all-inclusive where the food is piled on buffets. It was beautifully set up and the a la cart items were very appealing. The grounds were spotless thanks to the employees raking the sand, moping the floors, attending the bathrooms. The room was spacious and comfortable. There are children but they seemed well behaved. Not an issue for us. I would suggest you go to dinner on the later side if you want to avoid the little ones. This was our second visit to The Beloved Resort but certainly not our last. We absolutely love being here and hate to leave at the end of a week. At the beach, expect to be spoiled with a special menu of wood fired pizzas, grilled skewers of shrimp, chicken or beef, and the usual mexican favorites like guacomole, quesadillas, etc.. For dinner,there is the Lupita restaurant with exceptional mexican gourmet offerings and a very good wine selection, the Aroma restaurant with its buffet or table service, and the Grill, for relaxed all day service of healthy menu options. Also, there is live music almost all the time at one restaurant or another. The drinks are excellent with top shelf ingredients. The spa is heaven, go there and do the water therapy ritual. The usual spa services are rendered very capably. Great work out room with equipment. The rooms are beautiful and spacious and have a generous balcony with a big lounging bed for rainy afternoons or whenever. Room service 24 hours. The beach has a lot of sea grass sometimes but you can still go in the water. The pools are beautiful, not heated but great for a swimmer like me. Compared to the overall experience, these are tiny. - Agree with some reviews on food, they all look great, but taste are inconsistent. -The color of sea here is not the best, but beach sand is white and soft. We had very nice walks. didn't see a lot of seaweed as other reviewers mention. -We stayed at Junior suite, a trade-off of privacy vs. the convenience of swim-up suite. This has to be, without a doubt, one of the finest hotels out there, We cannot sing the praises of the staff too much - everyone from the doorman to the cleaning staff were helpful, cheerful and polite. The front desk were obliging with money exchanges and trip advice, the restaurant staff and bar staff were helpful and eager to provide insights into the best food/drink. We have stayed in many a 4 star hotel, and all could do with sending their staff here for a quick course in customer service. Yes Dominic, there are children, but as the hotel is not over 18s only, that is to be expected. In fact, there were a lot of children, but as none of them were ours, and they were, on the whole, remarkably well behaved, it wasn't a problem. Our room was fantastic with a patio, our own mini pool and a wet bar filled with full sized bottles and snacks. The only criticism we have of the whole hotel is the 'house' wine - virtually undrinkable. Great food, top of the line spirits, but duff wine - very odd. There is an additional wine list but you pay extra for it. Finally, be aware that this hotel is about 30 minutes north of Cancun - handy if you are going on a day trip to the nearby Isla Mujeres, but allow extra time if you are going to Cancun, the airport or anywhere else. Not because the staff are not trying, but because they are overwhelmed. It seems to me that more people are cleaning the property at any time than actually serving guests. Multiple delays (don't ever arrive at any restaurant hungry) for getting orders, drink glasses going unfilled (we asked our overwhelmed server if he would simply leave the water and wine on our table and we could help ourselves, but that is apparently not okay). Similar delays for getting towels at the pool (no one in sight to ask, another family had their little boy jump over the counter into the towel room and grab some). The food on buffets was bad. I think the management tries to get feedback, and seems to want to make up by offering a bottle of wine, etc, but really guests should not be having such experiences in the first place. If you insist on being a full service resort, then be staffed to deliver. Unfortunately this resort seems to be a case of "they don't know what they don't know". We had a great time, very mellow, uncrowded atmosphere, and very family friendly, except for the occassional long wait at restaurants. The room was huge and had everything you could want: whirlpool tub, awesome shower, bar, TV, seating area, lounger on balcony, great view, etc. It is just like the photos on the internet. The all inclusive package makes it so nice. You don't have to worry about a thing. The food was very good with plenty of options, 24 hour room service, mini bar, etc. Even though gratuities are included, we brought a stack of ones and fives for tips (based on a suggestion from a review I read on here). I can't say that I've ever written a review and mentioned the bathroom showers, but these were definitely worth mentioning, the most incredible shower I've ever used. The wedding was gorgeous and the ocean backdrop created the most beautiful photos. The staff got to know us and remembered our names. They continuously asked what they could do to make our experience more pleasant. The Beloved hosts a world class spa that should not be missed and a world class golf course (Playa Mujeres) just down the road. We could not ask for a better vacation and are currently planning a return visit very soon.
