I don't know what everyone else expects for £60 right in the middle of central london but I found the staff kind and I got a really good nights sleep (woken up by birdsong!) breakfast good.

"Well located hotel, but needs some improvements."
The hotel seems to be rather rundown ( in what stands for toilet spaces), but is well located and clean. The staff at the reception is especially helpful. In my opinion, it is overpriced for what they offer. The room cleaning is good. The rooms seems to be from an house, which is warm for the visitors.

"Overnight business stop, booked at short notice."
A little old and tired. My room on the top floor had no cold running water to the basin (although lots of hot water) and so no way of filling the kettle for the tea and coffee making facilities. The tiled bathroom floor was in very poor, patched up condition. The staff were helpful and it was clean and tidy, however, and provided a comfortable overnight sleep. I probably won't be going back again though.

"Garth Hotel"
Hotel is in a fantastic location if you need be close to Euston or University College London. The room was single and tiny. The bed was uncomfortable and the shower was literally in the corner of the single bedroom. The toilets were shared which I didn't realise, my fault though I missed that info when booking. The door to the room didn't fit properly so there was light coming from the hallway all night. The bedding and soft furnishings were tatty but the bed sheets were clean and the room was clean. There were no duvets just a sheet and blanket which surprised me - didn't realise people still used blankets! Had concerns about the fire exits - only one the front door and I was through a hallway on the 3rd floor. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. Was only there for one night so it was ok but wouldn't stay there again. On the plus side it was only £65!!

"Simple, small room in convenient part of London."
The room was tiny but this was not a surprise, having stayed in similar hotels in this part of London before. It is very basic but the English breakfast was delicious. The hotel location is very convenient to British Museum, Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square, all being a short walk away.

"Shoddy hotel but fine for one night."
The room was fine if somewhat crampe and did seem clean although it did smell rather 'lived in'. The whole hotel was incredibly run down with wall paper peeling off, rusty bits, holes plastered over and some not, and in my room the window latch was broken so I couldn't shut the window, but this was good to help dissipate the afore mention 'lived in' smell. The service was basic but efficient and the wifi worked fine. Don't think that this is better than any of the other cheapest hotels, but was essentially fine for a one night stay.

"Ok if you're stuck for a room"
Our room on the ground floor was in need of refurbishment.Peeling wallpaper, squeaky floorboards and broken tiles on the front of the shower unit. Nearest toilet was in the basement office or up on the second floor.People in the 2 rooms next door were continually coming and going and doors slammed and shook the room every time. The staff were friendly tho,and breakfast was good.

"Suggestions for future of The Garth Hotel ????"
We found the room adequate for what we wanted, overnight acomodation. I am afraid we didn't manage that very well as the room was far to hot,I know there was a fan in the room but it was not adequate for cooling the room down, the windows do not open so we could not get any fresh air in the room, it would be ideal if you could open it 2 inches say, just to get some air circulating.I think also The Garth could do with some updating,it's old & tired.Didn't upset us though, enjoyed our stay.

mixed feelings about the hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. My room was very small and very basic. Bathroom was tiny and not really fit for purpose. "No one cares"
I regularly look for cheap one-night ears in London and could forgive the broken window (the hole was stuffed with loo paper), tiny dimensions and general grubbiness if the mattress had been comfortable. It was awful - like sleeping on a potato masher. The breakfast was fine, but otherwise it is quite clear that no one cares about delivering a decent basic bedroom. Very poor.

"A bit disappointed"
The room was comfy and clean, and the breakfast room and check in staff were helpful, but I don't think letting a 63 year old woman [me!] struggle with her suitcase up the narrow stairs while the younger, healthy manager sat at his desk in the reception area counts as good service. Would go back for the location if it was the most reasonable available in that neighborhood.

"Affordable accommodation and great service!"
The Garth Hotel was way better than the first hotel we stayed at on our first trip to London. We chose a place near the Prince Edward Theatre that's low-cost yet we were never disappointed at all about the service or the hotel condition in general. The receptionist and kitchen staff were very friendly and the lady at the office even helped us to have our coach tickets printed without additional charges. We'll definitely consider staying there when go back again to London.

"Lovely staff, scruffy hotel"
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and were always warmly greeted. The room was too small as a twin room it was very cramped, with just enough room to walk between the beds. We didn't sleep the two nights we stayed as the room was very hot and stuffy, we had the window wide open but this didn't help with the temperature it just made the traffic noise much louder. The yale lock on the door was faulty but luckily there was a second lock and key. The whole hotel looked tired and scruffy it looked like it needed refurbishing. On a positive note the bed linen, towels and table linen in the dining room were all clean and fresh. The cooked breakfast was good and we had nice warm toast, there was a good range of cereals, fruit juice, coffee and tea.

"convenient, but too compact"
Like many Bloomsbury hotels this is a converted house where large rooms have been divided into two or three bedrooms. In winter this might be cosy but in London summer, most of the interiors were stiflingly hot as there is no cross ventilation. My room was very small indeed. It opened onto a neglected courtyard, which meant I was able to cool it down in the evening, but there was only a latch and simple key for security, no deadlock. However the service was very friendly and the location meant we could walk to the British Museum and the theatre.

"Hospital appointment"
My wife had an appointment at University College Hospital . I booked the the room because the hotel is ideally close to the hospital. Fortunately, although it had been indicated that it require my wife to stay overnight, the result was she did not need to. Although I had only booked in for one hour prior to this situation evolving I did ask for a refund as no facilities had been used. I was informed by the receptionist that it was unlikely that any recompense would be forthcoming , but she would report the situation to the management. To date sadly, no response.

"Noisy"
I stayed at the Garth hotel for one night on business. The hotel is very outdated and is clearly in need of a makeover. The décor is very outdated and the gaps beneath the doors are big enough to see under. The road noise was a little excessive at times and the fixtures and fittings were past their best. If you’re only after a place to crash then the hotel would be ok. The location is very good and is a short walk from Goodge Street station. The staff at the hotel are very friendly. The welcome/service was very good indeed. The breakfast was good, but the dining room is so small you may end up sharing tables with other guests unless you want to wait

"Ideal for Business Travel and The National Library"
I was prepared for the worst when I read the reviews of the Garth but I was pleasantly surprised. Here is a breakdown: 1) The complaints about the small rooms must be from people unfamiliar with staying in London. You couldn't throw a party, but if your purpose is sleeping and getting ready for some touring, it is perfect. 2) The rooms could do with some updating, and who ever patched them up wasn't a pro, but again, it is more than adequate. 3) The English breakfast has all the right ingredients, but is not cooked traditionally. It is mostly baked. The quality of the food was good and there was plenty of it. 4) The staff. I can't say enough about their helpfulness and kindness. Most were not first language English, but that did not stop them from being very knowledgeable about the area. This place is ideal for business travelers and students visiting the UCL campus. If you are looking to do the Bloomsbury tour, The National Library, and the British Museum, this is the place to be.

"Great location, horrible hotel"
Very disappointed as it looked beautiful from the outside. Had an ensuite which was tiny and the shower had not been cleaned properly. Woke up to the smell of a greasy cooked breakfast (I was in room 12 on the top floor) which had wafted throughout the hotel. "'Does what it say's on the tin'"
Needed a hotel close to one of the London hospitals and this was perfect. The hotel was in a good area and near to local shops, restaurants and pubs. The decoration is a bit 'tired' and dated. I booked for a single room and that was what I got. It was in the basement, very small with limited furniture and only the bed to sit on, but was clean and tidy. There was a shower and sink in the room but the toilet along the passageway was very run down and there was water dripping from the roof. The television in the room was small and unable to receive the basic ITV channel. After bringing this to the attention of the manager I was moved to a double room on the top floor which was a lot bigger and the TV worked properly. Breakfast was included in the price and included a choice of cereal, toast, tea, coffee and full english. It was very filling and delicious with good service. If you are allocated a room on the top floor you better be fit as there's no lift and its a good climb, especially after breakfast as the dining room is in the basement! Overall, it does what it say's on the tin, it's clean and tidy and provides value for money at a reasonable price.

"Good location, budget hotel"
Ideally located not far from Goodge Street and Russell Square tube stations. A short walk to shops, bars and restaurants. Surrounded by colleges and the British Museum is a stones throw away. Reception is in the basement and staffed until 11pm. The room was small (you couldn't fully open the door because of the bed) but had a sink, tea and coffee facilities, a wardrobe and desk with drawers. Our room (2) was located at the rear so no traffic noise although it was directly below the shared toilet and shower room so some noise was experienced. The toilet and shower room were generally clean. Unfortunately some guests didn't have consideration for others so perhaps the staff should make more regular checks, especially during the busy morning period. Towels are provided in room and there was plenty of toilet paper! Breakfast was very good. Decent sausage, bacon, beans, mushroom, toast and egg. You helped yourself to orange juice, coffee and cereals. My only suggestion would be later operating times. Service finished at 9am on a Saturday and 9.30am on a Sunday which was a struggle! Overall, a good value option in London.

It is very close to rail and bus connections and a good place to stay if you're just looking for somewhere to sleep and leave your things. The breakfast was hearty, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The eating area is quite small for the amount of guests, and I had to skip out on breakfast one of the days as I didn't have time to wait for a space. My room was in the basement and had to walk past the office area to get to the shared toilet, so it's not all that private. Cleanliness was ok, but I was there for 4 nights and the cup I used for tea was not replaced - I rinsed it out at the sink. Generally, a pleasant stay and it met my needs for the trip.

"Garth Hotel Review - Great Location"
We arrived at the hotel, which look promising, within walking distance from Euston train station and to other tourist places such as Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square etc.... the hotel looks impressive from the outside with its traditional front steps and grand looking porch. However, when inside the hotel I felt it was a bit run down, needs decorating or definitely some attention to freshening up the paint etc.... We had a double room with shower, when opening the door to the room both my husband and I were in shock, the room was very small, with a cigarette burn on the bed cover, the room was quite dark and dingy, the shower was just a shower enclosure in the corner of the room with no privacy door. The room itself was next to the entrance to the hotel so it was very noisy when other guests were coming in / out, also we could hear the guests quite clearly talking to each other when letting themselves into their rooms. The dining room was very small and we had to share a table with another guest which I personally wasn't a fan of, the breakfast however was tasty.
