Hotel had only been open 2 months but was running smoothly. Staff was excellent and very helpful. Room was clean and modern. Free wifi worked well. Only complaint was the lack of any fresh fruit at breakfast. Good location for seeing York--easy 10 min walk to central shopping & sights.

Location.
Situated in York, The Farthings Guest House is close to Micklegate Bar, York Dungeon, and York Castle Museum. Also nearby are Merchant Adventurers' Hall and York Minster.

The Farthings Guest House is a delightful B&B in York. t is a short taxi ride from the railroad station but an easy walk back once you know the way. It also is an easy walk to town center. from two travellers who feel fortunate to have stayed at the Farthings. Our room with twin beds and ensuite was a treat, cosy bed, hot showers, tea/coffee making facilities, t.v.. Felt safe and welcomed by our great hosts, Helen and her mum. Breakfast beautifully prepared and served with many choices, full english, fruit salad, yoghurt, juices and tea […] or coffee, and a wealth of information on York and England in general from our hosts. A friendly welcome and local maps and information was offered on our arrival. The room and bed were very comfortable and although at the front of the hotel was very quiet. Our room was a spacious ground floor room with en-suite shower which was small and had a noisy Sanilav toilet which didn't bother us but some people might like more space. The owner greeted us warmly as though we were long-awaited friends; she showed us to our room, and even made sure the radiator was at a good setting before leaving. As it was a very busy weekend in York we were unable to book our usual Premier Inn room. But after staying at the Farthings we wont bother to ever stay anyway else again. What fantastic hospitality. We stayed at the B&B in your because it was my birthday weekend, and we went to your races (John Smiths Cup). The B&B was within walking distance of the race course, town centre and all the attractions in York. Too get a room in York for this weekend is normally booked months in advance but we decided at last minuet to go so were very lucky to get a […] room at all. The room was up in the attic (one of four rooms up there) The stairs are very steep!! and the room had no on-suite. With the room being in the attic the roof slopes so you have too be very careful were you stand. Overall the B&B was very clean, excellent welcome by both owners. We stayed at the Farthings for 2 nights, which helped make our visit to York a lovely one. The Guest House is very well located, approx a 7-8 minute work into town (about 10-12 mins from Jorvik). It is located in a residential street, quiet, even on a Friday night, and parking directly outside was no problem thanks to visitor permits issued for guests. The […] bed was the softest and most comfortable we have encountered for a while, and fitted in with the relaxed and comfortable feel of the guest house, feeling like we had been there for a while and not just somewhere for a short stay. Vi bodde två nätter på the Farthings Guest House i York under mellandagarna 2011 och detta B&B uppfyllde verkligen våra förväntningar. Ligger vid en lugn gata ca 10-15 minuter promenad från York innaför murarna. Mycket trevligt bemötande, ett väldigt engelskt rum med burspråk, möblerat med omtanke om alla detaljer.
