Right on the banks of the Wear, across a pedestrian bridge from the city center, yet the rooms were quiet and very comfortable.

The hotel was very nice. I particularly liked the gym and the swimming pool. It was very clean, simply pleasant to start or end your day with some excersize. The only small thing it is missing in the hotel is the toilet brush.

We stayed only one night in this modern well decorated and maintained modern hotel. An excellent hotel although a bit far from the train station. The only negative was the evening meal in the hotel restaurant which was tasteless. We did not have breakfast in the hotel so we cannot comment on that. I would stay there again.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Extremely easy check-in and check-out. Very comfortable in general. The location is excellent -- there is a bridge across the river directly outside the front doors. 5 minutes and you'll be in picturesque downtown Durham. Stayed in double room that was clean and modern, though the bed was actually two twins pushed together […] -- creates a slight furrow down the middle. Good pillows. We were assured at check-in that breakfast was included for our party of 4. I was a bit surprised but jet lagged so I asked clerk to confirm. She did, including that it was Expedia booking. When we checked out the next day we were informed that breakfast was NOT included for us and that we had been charged $25 each including 2 children who ate very […] little. The manager would not budge; he should have at least agreed to split difference since his staff misled us into a $100 added expense. We really really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were made to feel welcome at every step of the way and staff went out of their way to help us. The cot we had asked for was already in the room, and staff were lovely to our little one year old. We used the spa facilities with our baby and staff were also really helpful and freindly there too. Good hotel, location near to centre and attractions, parking price was reasonable. Good sized rooms, nice bathroom, reception very welcoming and helpful on check in. Nice pool although this was quite busy (saturday early evening) due to swimming lessons and the size of the pool could do with being bigger for size of hotel.

We stayed over to save driving home after an evening at the Gala Theatre. The hotel was everything you'd expect and the staff were professional and friendly. We were able to leave our car in the hotel car park the next morning while we had a look around Durham. Truly excellent stay, great room, modern and clean, with nice touches of champagne glasses having requested them. Spa was great, as was pool area and it included a jacuzzi - unlike some of its other sister branches. We had a standard room for a two night stay. The room was well equipped, it had pretty much everything that is needed for a short stay, the only thing which would have been useful is a small fridge. That said, there was an ice machine near the room so drinks could be cooled easily. The room and bathroom was really clean and the water was always hot […] when we showered. The room was also cleaned to a high standard following the first night. We made use of the hotel swimming pool, which was a decent size, perhaps 10-15 metres. It was also clean and a good temperature. Towels were also available. Service at the bar was good, we did not wait long to be served and the drinks were as you would hope. The hotel is not right in the middle of town, that said, there is a foot bridge over the river right outside the hotel door that makes the journey into town about 5 mins so we had no issues with the location. The car park was always very busy and it is not free to hotel guests. The nightly cost of the hotel was £7 I think. All in all the hotel was great, I would be more than happy to stay there again. There is nothing bad to say about this hotel at all. The location, staff, room comfort and food are all excellent. It's very easy to find with parking on site (£10 for 24 hours) and its simply a small walk over the river into Durham centre. There's also a beautiful Spa on site with a free sauna and swimming pool.

It's pretty average hotel for the price, I like the fact it has a decent gym and is centrally located near all the restaurants. The room was very clean and well maintained. i was really annoyed when i was charged £3 for a peppermint tea bag when I paid £3 for a pot of tea already. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The room was very, very clean and fresh. I have only marked the comfort of my room to 4 because the bed was not that comfortable although everything else was perfect. The hotel itself seems very well maintained and there was no evidence of any "touch up jobs to do". The bar area was very clean and well stocked, […] although, (the only criticism of the bar) the price of a certain Lager was charged at 50p more than the menu stated (an important detail i think). The breakfast buffet was was very well presented, although the quality of the "English breakfast" food, was average (did not try the "continental" selection, but it looked fresh) and the tea pots did not stay hot for long. These are just minor things and don't detract from the quality of the hotel. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we will certainly be staying again - infact we have already booked for later in the year! Read more
