Columbia Cliff Villas Hotel - Hood River

We are not fancy people, but we wanted to splurge and stay at a pricey nice place. I can't believe how expensive with an upgrade to be on the freeway side of the building. It was so noisy with traffic it stole our joy. Not to mention a woodpecker banging the drain gutter at 4am and Saturday morning lawn mowers at 8:30 on the grounds . We won't be staying […] there again.... Not worth $189 a night for their so so rooms. Read more

Room was located directly above train track. Train can three times every early morning at midnight 1 and 2 am! No one said anything about it being there until we heard it barreling down the track. View was great of Colombia River Gorge but can't believe we were charged extra. Find another location, and not the Gorge hotel next door, either.

Beautiful location in the Gorge and easy access to Hood River. Our only issue here came on the first night when we were in a Euro King room. These are the smallest of the rooms at the hotel and are basically bedroom size. The rooms connect through a privacy door to another larger suite. The problem is that we found there to be little sound proofing […] between the bedroom of the other suite and the room we were in. You can literally hear normal talking and even beeps from a cell phone. After dealing with middle of the night wake-ups, we asked to be moved and the hotel accommodated us without question. We enjoyed our trip to Hood River. The Columbia Cliffs Villas Hotel is conveniently located just off the highway on the west of town. The ultra deluxe Colmbia Gorge Hotel is next door with a fancy restaurant. Otherwise you need to drive into town. The room was nice and the king bed comfortable, but it was boxy and cramped with barely 3 feet to the wall […] on either side. We stayed in one of the more expensive garden court rooms which show a shared veranda. But this veranda is just an indentation on the main walkway in front of the rooms. The bathroom was spacious (and we enjoyed the shower with double shower heads) but there was no good space to relax. All in all a less expensive hotel would be a better choice. Perhaps they should join a condo exchange program rather than billing it as a hotel, since there is no service other than check-in and housekeeping. Read more

Teeny room, no electricity until I contacted the office, sour shower curtain, toilet seat about to fall off. (The electricity thing was remedied promptly.) Gorgeous view of the river (not from my room), attractive room, mostly helpful staff, very comfortable bed and nice pillows.

Our first visit to the Columbia Cliff Villas was very pleasureable. We upgraded to a room on the river side and it was quiet, peaceful and had all the amenities we needed. The gas fireplace really warms up the room and the bed was spacious, firm and very relaxing. Parking spaces were limited but there is overflow parking on a gravel road nearby. Pricing is a bit high but we were able to use Hotel.com points to offset the cost. We had a one room villa, which wouldn't have been great if we had our kids with us, but was perfect for us. One big selling point for us is high quality sheets and towels. We hate typical hotel comforts, and very much appreciated the higher […] quality sheets, towels, etc in this hotel. Two drawbacks could be a lack of it's own restaurant, and there was no "property" to speak of. Both of these were essentially addressed by the hotel next door, which had a great landscaped garden and viewpoint, and a full restaurant. There were paths connecting the two hotels. I booked this hotel through an Expedia coupon, so I got a great rate. But even if I had paid the full rate, I still think it's a great deal. Most of the rooms here are condos, but function great as hotel rooms. The bed was wonderful, there are Keurig machines in every room, and it was a fantastic stay all around. The bathroom's great as well!

I read 2 reviews that were positive. We arrived and found we had spent a lot on a room that was a lock out for a condo next door so was very small. It was indeed beautiful, but with a view of the parking lot or highway we were dissappointed. When we asked about an upgrade to view the river we were told it would cost nearly double for more a night. I […] regret going there and would discourage anyone from staying there if you want any form of relaxation outside your room. You get a bed and 1 chair. Luckily there was a TV and for that I am surprised. High end furnishings aren't enough if you can not enjoy a view of the fantastic scenerary. Our room was very very small with an excellent view of the roadway. It was very clean and all was in order but for the price it would have been nice to at least hear the river. There were two robes, not sure why as to put them on and walk 3 steps to the bathroom made almoset zero sense. There was no balcony just a window that opened up to let you here […] the traffic passing by. Also the parking was just an after thought of this hotel building as it was limited to none or you could park in the overflow lot down the hill. I stayed at this hotel for the first time in July 2011. Very nice hotel room. Spacious and comfortable, and the value was good. The property is right on the Columbia River so there are very good views. I really liked the quietness of the property and the rooms have good sound insulation. Front desk person was very helpful, but they don't have anyone […] in the office after 9:30 or so. Heaven forbid if you should lock yourself out of the room and don't have the phone number of the maintenance person to come and let you in. Also, the property does not have a restaurant so you have to go off the property to eat. Overall, I liked the hotel and the rooms, and I will stay there again if I go back to Hood River. Read more

Room was nice. The thermostat for our room was in someone else's room, so we were cold most of the time. Single shower was different. No place to get out of the stream. Fine sprays were almost piercing. No elevator. If you go to Hood Meadows for skiing, you can get a great lift ticket price at the office. $49/day. The room was small but extremely well appointed. It had new bedding, a sleep by number mattress system, coffee maker, sophisticated furniture and very nice tiled small bathroom. The room was too cool and the thermostat was in the adjoining room, but the desk clerk gave us a space heater which worked well and unlocked the adjoining unoccupied room door […] where the thermostat was if we needed further adjustments. She also left us a wine tasting tour for free with a nice note while we went out for an excellent dinner at Celilol's in town. The Columbia River Gorge is a not-to-be missed sight in the northwest.
