The hotel was clean and tidy although our room did have some dust in a few spots. Our room was pretty small, but as we were out for the night that didn't really bother us too much. Most of the decor etc is quite dated, but some older folks like that sort of thing I suppose. The location is brilliant; situated inbetween the promenade & town centre. The bed was lovely and comfortable, though I found the top sheet and blanket difficult after so many years of using a duvet. For the price the accomodation was very good, though the carpet in my room was badly stained - but the bathroom was very clean, which is so important. Breakfast was good, with especial mention for lovely soft poached eggs!

Value for money was very good. Christine was welcoming and a comfortable nights rest. Just one observation to note: Breakfast starts at 0800, so anyone early to rise like myself (on this occasion) there is only fruit available with no other alternative. Poor really, when you consider time should not be a big issue in this industry.

Although the double room was quite small it was very comfortable and clean. The shower pressure was extremely poor in the room on the top floor and akin to showering under a watering can. The free WIFI although advertised did not exist even though instructions on how to connect were in the welcome guide. The Carlton Lodge Southport is in an ideal location, near the promenade and shops. On arrival we were shown to our room which was lovely. The owner was really friendly & welcoming. The room features such as wifi, flat screen tv, tea tray etc were to a very high standard. Breakfast was excellent, there is a great menu and food is freshly cooked to order. Free parking is also available. Our only issues were that we were on the ground floor with patio doors and because of this the room was […] freezing. The heating in the room went off at night and we were so cold we kept waking up. In the morning as the room was next to the dining room we had people clomping up and down the stairs and backwards and forwards across the floor. It was really loud so there was no chance of a lay in (even if we had been asleep). My wife and I were very impressed with this guest house. All the furnishings are of an 'old-fashioned' style and our room was clean and comfortable. We were made very welcome by the owner. She is a very polite lady, who found time to have a chat with us before we left. The Full English breakfast was excellent.
