The location of the hotel is unbeatable. We could hear the bells of the abbey and look out to see the parade grounds. I was initially concerned that a BW may be a big box, but they have sensitively maintained much of the character of the wonderful old hotel while incorporating modern amenities like a full, modern, spacious bathroom. We opted for the breakfast inclusive package and found it to be robust and offering many options. We set out on foot and did the whole city from this great central location.

We stayed 2 weeks. The owner and staff are very efficient, accommodating, and pleasant. The location was perfect and the facility was excellent. We will stay again.

We had trouble finding the Bath Hilton due to one-way streets and traffic congestion, but it is close to the Abbey, Roman baths and Pump Room, so it's worth the trouble. Two negatives: internet access was available only in the lobby and parking costs approx. $22 per night. Positives are the full breakfast in the restaurant with a fantastic view and, as mentioned, hotel's location.

The Macdonald Bath Spa is lovely, the staff is helpful and attentive. We were automatically upgraded to a suite which was a wonderful surprise. No complaints. Would definitely stay there again.

Very surprise the hotel does not have its own car parking. I have to move my car to pay car parking before 10 am and can only park close by after 4 pm. The room is very small. Not good value for money
"Great position in Wells"
Firstly, all staff were charming, but seemed to be in a state of quiet chaos. Our room was not at all as displayed on the wwebsite, and very small, which meant one constantly fell over bags and other items. it was also up a series of steps that resembled a gymnasium's climbing wall...quite dangerous. Super to sit at the back of the hotel, having drinks […] on the cathedral green, but cheapest wine at over £17 a bottle, was not encouraging. Our supper group of 16 found the service almost non-existent at times; tryinhg to get bread at the start of the meal, took until the end of the main course. Breakfast is taken across the road at a sister hotel, and was good, and the room and service lovely. I stay at the beautiful Swan Hotel usually, and a weekend break in a hotel of that quality SADLY means that our stay at the Ancient Gate house was very overpriced...BUT THE STAFF WERE DELIGHTFUL, AND I WISH THEM WELL. "Perfect locaion"
It's a period building so you get character and some of the rooms look directly onto the cathedral. A great location in the centre of Wells. I found it comfortable, quiet and clean, and our room (double) was perfectly adequate in terms of size. "Nice hotell in Wells Somerset"
Perfect situated in wonderful Wells. The Ancient Gatehouse is a nice and friendly hotel in an old style. We had a nice doubleroom, beautiful but not so comfortable bed. Bathroom ok. Breakfast wes served in a hotell on the opposite side of Sadler street, Very friendly staff there and it was good. Not so much fruit though. Internt just worked in the resting […] area downstairs but it was free of charge.Good. Parking is not included so you have to park your car a couple of hundred meters away or if you are lucky just outside but then you will have to get up earler than the metermaid.
