I was very impressed with the staff. Very welcoming and kind (THANK YOU STEVEN/STEPHEN). I definitely appreciated the complimentary breakfast, free parking, free WiFi especially at a hotel in the Galleria area where everything is expected to be overpriced or having to pay extra. We didn't really use the kitchen, but was pleased with the kitchenette […] area. The only weird thing about the room was the position of the large chest where the TV was in. Difficult to get comfortable enough to watch anything or we just moved to end of the bed so we could see the screen. And maybe a door to separate the bedroom from the bathroom area so sleep is not disturbed with lights. Definitely would not recommend staying at the hotel for people who are not patient with traffic and major congestion in the streets in the area. Again I enjoyed my stay!! The facility is in a good location but is definitely showing its age. The room was clean and comfortable but the flooring, tub and fixtures in the bathroom were significantly worn and should be replaced. Had trouble with the magnetic key system on the front door as the mechanism is quite old and would not read the magnetic key without difficulty.

The hotel was in a great location though I missed it at first. It is not well marked. Te room was a nice size but needs some upgrades. The TV is old and not a flat screen. The internet was so slow it hardly could be used. Carpet should be replaced. However the evening food and and beverage was really nice, and the staff couldn't be any nicer.

Great location and service! As of 12/1/12, the hotel facility need improvement and hotel staff was very proactive in fixing any issues. Example: The elevator was out for a half day and the cleaning crew was hauling their big cart up the stairs (4 floors) to get their job done. Older building. First the floors in the hallway are uneven. They also keep the temps and humidity high in the hotel, so you smell everyone's cooking...hours after it was cooked. The pillows smelled musty (humidity was always kinda high in the hotel). The morning desk clerk was always rude and short with you. The night desk clerks were always very nice. I would consider rating this hotel a 5 out of 5 but I had to make a couple of deductions that I explain below. Sonesta recently acquired this hotel and, according to the employees, it is not yet up to par with their standards. Points deducted for a lack of WiFi and (hard wired) internet access. On our recent stay, there were four of us. We stayed in a two bedroom suite. There was plenty of space for all of us. The breakfast was good. You have the choice to eat healthy or not. The manager special in the evenings were also good. Nothing fancy, but filling. We didn't have to eat out for dinner. We ate downstairs, but noticed several people get […] their food and beverages and go to their rooms. The weather was nice enough to eat outside. The pool and grounds were very nice. The kitchen in the room was stocked with the basic utinsils if you wanted to cook your own food. We each brought wine and glasses to the hotel. Wine glasses are stocked in the kitchen, so we will know next time we can leave them at home. We were in Houston for the International Quilt Festival which is held at the George Brown Convention Center downtown. The location of the Sonesta ES is an easy drive to get to downtown. Westheimer to the Allen Parkway and you're there. I couldn't give them a 5 for upkeep only because we had a leak in the bathtub that wasn't fixed in the three days we were there. The leak didn't keep us up at night, my concern was the water that was being wasted. We diffinetly plan on staying at the Sonesta ES the next time we're in Houston. Read more

My initial check-in was slightly flawed by an abrupt desk person, but after that, the hotel was perfect. Although it was farther away from downtown Houston than I thought, it more than made up for the distance. The bed was the most comfortable I think I ever had at a hotel. Breakfast was excellant. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Our stay at Sonesta was more than we expected, it is at walking distance to Galleria mall, and cool spots in front of the hotel to grab something to drink. I can't complain about anything, room very big with kitchenette, tea, coffee, nice toiletries, comfy bed, and the best thing of all... the breakfast waffles yummi.

My overall opinion of the hotel was "good". The hotel room was clean, however I asked for a non-smoking room and didn't receive it. I am a business traveler, so obviously I need proper internet connection. I was unable to do any work during my stay. The internet was 56kps, that is what I would expect 10 to 15 years ago. The stay was good, the only issue was the 3pm check-in. That wasn't listed on the internet reservation and I had a 2pm meeting that I needed to prepare for. The lady in charge of the cleaning wasn't helpful but the front desk got me in my room around 12:30. The room was clean and the breakfast was actually pretty good. Will use it again.

Being that I was visiting my sister who is ill, I could have done without the negatives of this hotel. Read on . . . I checked in a little before midnight on 10/12. Received my room keys, headed straight for the restroom in my room after a 6 hour drive. Negative #1 - i walk in to find urine all over the toilet seat as well as on the floor (still fresh). […] I call the front desk and I am told that all of the housekeeping personnel have left for the day and that it would have to wait until tomorrow. I continue to argue with them at which point they tell me "well you can just wipe it off with a towel". I ask for a room change and they tell me there are no rooms available (parking lot is almost empty, but somehow they say they are fully booked). It seems as if the only problem is that they don't want to go through the trouble of transferring my reservation to another room. After appx 10 min of arguing, the other front desk clerk offers to go and clean it himself. Next day 10/13. We leave the room to take care of business with my family. Negative #2 - We show up at about 5pm someone (housekeeping) has placed the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. I was the last to leave the room i KNOW that I did not leave that sign on my door. I walk in to find everything as we left it in the morning. I call again to the front desk and luckily I caught the housekeeping ladies before they left. They came and cleaned up the room. Read more

I reserved a two bedroom suite and upon check in I was told that all they had available was a one bedroom unit because the unit that I had reserved was not clean because housekeeping had already left and that the room would be avaiable the next morning. We waited until 1:00 the next afternoon after not recieving a call that our room was ready and was […] then told that it would be 15 min. more minutes. Well that went on until 3:30. We lost half a day because the staff was not truthful regarding the status of the room. No excuse for dishonesty! The breakfast was mediocre at best...we were told that breakfast on the weekends would be served until 10:00 am... we came down at 9:30 only to find that most of the breakfast was empty and that they were starting to close it down instead of refilling the pans...leaving several of the guests scrapping for the remnants and leaving with disgusted comments. Although the hotel was ok, I was very disappointed with the booking agent at Hotels.com for not mentioning that I might NOT get the room I was booking. I booked with specific needs for the beds and got there and found I would only have one bed -- they eventually got this fixed for me after a great deal of pressure. Hotels.com did not forward my Priority […] Club membership number to the hotel as I had advised them. Hotels.com did not advise me that the hotel had just been sold (and that most of the cleaning staff had quit). Couldn't get into a room until after 7:00pm on the day I checked in. The desk clerk had to go and clean a room for our group. Once we finally got into the room, the stay was good, and everything was as expected. The suite was huge, one room with 2 queen beds and a bathroom, and another room with one queen bed and a bathroom (plus living/kitchen area). This was very beneficial for us having 2 small children since we could stay up and watch tv while the kids slept in separate rooms.
