Yomi Hotel - Taipei

I booked the hotel online, with 3 criteria: (1) proximity to Shilin night market, (2) reasonably prices, and (3) good users' rating (>4.0 out of 5,0), and eventually chose Yomi, which I had never stayed in before, although I have stayed in numerous other hotels in the same district (Chung-Shan District) in the past. Yomi is not a big hotel. The looks from outside is little bit old. I reserved the Triple Royal Room. The room consist of two rooms. One with queen size bed and the other with single bed. The room is nice, the bathroom has sauna and sunken tub. A bit difficult for old person or small kids to get into the tub. There is free cup noodle, chips and mineral […] water in the room. The breakfast is complete with western, chinese and japanese food. Free ud of computer, fitness, massage chair and laundry machine. Hotel surrounding quite nice. There is 7 eleven and watson next to the hotel. Don't miss Sushi Express Restaurant nearby (take right from the hotel on 1st intersection take right pass 2 traffic light on the right second floor before burger king). Not much shopping around. Generally a nice hotel with that price. The only thing I am not satisfied is the second bed. It's too soft. The master bed is very comfortable. And you have to mention their free stuff, instant noodles, snacks, water. Breakfast is also good enough.

This hotel is just two subway stops away from Taipei Main Station which means it's centrally located and very convenient. The hotel receptionists were very helpful and the rooms were clean. My only complaint had to be that the "gym" was one treadmill. Otherwise, great place!

the overall experience was great and family friendly. Except the bathroom, I fell down while getting out of the bath tub and got bruised leg due to a wit slippery floor. It may be good to add some handle on the side of the bath tub.

The hotel staff were very friendly and generally helpful when it came to questions about the city and transportation. This hotel is a convenient 5-10 minute walk to an MRT metro station, and I was able to take a bus from the airport (Evergreen Line) which took me to within two blocks of Yomi for under $5 US (the bus ride back was from around the corner […] at the neighboring hotel and only $3 US). The neighborhood itself is nothing to write home about, but who cares when you can very quickly take an MRT ride to several locations around the city. I still enjoyed a great local meal a few blocks the hotel after a recommendation from a local. I had free breakfast every morning which was better than average, free internet which was decent, and free laundry services (do-it-yourself, but very easy). There are a lot of reviews already. I just want to add that I got free local fruits in my room (banana, kiwi, and apple), my bath tub was made from wood, they offer free bicycle rent. I really loved breakfast they serve, from 0700 to 1000. …I got more than I expected from 3* Hotel. I definitely recommend this Hotel.

My take:- Pros:- 1. Good location (5 min walk to Shaunglian MRT) 2. Good eatery around the neighbourhood 3. Some budget shops around 4. Decent size for a family room 5. Massage chair in B1 is cool 6. Laundry facilities 7. Non-chargeable Wifi but weak in some corners of the room 8. Ample computers in the basement for use Cons:- 1. Lousy breakfast and […] you have to clear your own table (gave up eating there after a day) 2. Family room does not have a window (maybe a fire hazard) 3. Children bed's mattresses are too soft and springy 4. Staff are only ok in their service 5. Hotel needs more renovation to make it more appealing 6. No bell hop service - you need to carry your own luggage (not advisable if you have to carry a baby and have more than 2 pieces of luggage) 7. Staff were not flexible - we had wanted to use the complimentary Wii machine and 52" TV but were told that we have checked out after 3 nights of stay, we are not able to use it despite us not using it throughout the stay. Btw, limit to 1 hour a stay or a day. Overall feel is that I am staying in someone's 2nd home without the warm hospitality or food. And somewhat he placed all his extra stuff such as massage chair, TV, Wii in it. And worst of all, I am being put into a corner of the house without a view of outside or any idea what is the weather outside except to check online or walk into the lift to see the daily weather forecast updates pasted on the wall. Worst of all, I had to paid additional S$20/night on Hotel.com as the rates jumped overnight but I guess this is due to the increase on the hotel side. Lesson here is to book the hotel you want asap if you spot a good deal. Read more

I arrived at hotel early and was able to check in before the check-in time. Hotel staff is friendly and can communicate in English well. Hotel offers free WIFI in the rooms, but signal strength is somewhat weak and disconnects regularly. Good thing they also have 4 computers in the basement for hotel guests to use free of charge. The location of the hotel is close to the subway and many food street vendors available nearby. There is a convenient market and also a Pizza Hut nearby the hotel. I recommend riding the Airport bus "Dai Yau" to the hotel for $90NT versus $1200NT for a taxi. Tell the driver you wish to get off at the Ambassador Hotel which is one block away from the Yomi hotel. This hotel is 3 blocks (five minutes) from the nearest metro station and in a nice neighborhood. The Ambassador hotel is 1 1/2 blocks away for the airport bus. The Yomi Hotel is a good value for vacation and business traveler. The room was clean and had free wifi and snacks, an added touch that business class hotels often gouge the traveler. The staff was very helpful: they helped guide me to restaurants and travel arrangements. Hotels.com could improve by providing better maps with Chinese language as well […] as English instructions.. the English map is useless to the local inhabitants.. therefore useless in asking for directions while in Taiwan. Best bet is to download maps to you mobile phone or link site to your GPS. The Yomi is convenient to several historical sites.. but again its best to have these figured out ahead of your travel. The locatoin is also within a couple blocks of the MRT transit line and cabs pull up in front for convenient travel. From all the reviews I read about the Yomi hotel, they were all true. It is a 3 star hotel. No frills. Our room was clean; however, no window. The Chinese/Japanese breakfast every morning was very good. The laundrary room was also a plus. Because of the location, we were able to use the MRT extensively. Well situated, with friendly, helpful staff and a long list of free services -- breakfast, laundry, bikes -- the Yomi is a great little hotel and terrific value. For those travelling with kids it's a good choice as the extra bed is in a separate room from the double.
