Peacockes Hotel - Maam Cross

The Peacockes is located in Maam Cross, not immediately close to anything else. But it is in a good location to make day trips to the Aran Islands or Galway (30-40 min away), which we did. The place is a dump, the bathrooms desperately need repair and mold removal. The restaurant serves overpriced cafeteria food. We were glad to move on!

Seriously our experience could have been a scene right out of the movie The Shining. Hotel is in a remote location. It was completely deserted when we entered. Vet creepy and run down motel. The Hotel was easy to fine, beautifully decorated, and the staff was very helpful. Our only problem was no wash clothes. We asked at the front desk for wash clothes thinking the cleaning staff just forgot them.. The older man at the desk asked if that was a hygene thing? This was a dissapointing hotel. It is in need of refurbishment and basic maintenance, There are weeds on the approach footpath which gave a poor but accurate first impression. The TV only has 4 analogue channels. The water is brown, but I understand the reasons for this. However it is still very offputting and I think they should do something about […] this. The hotel really has no athmosphere. The plaque commeration the official opening by Bertie Ahern was covered up by a plant, which was a good idea! The Hotel is very clean and comfortable, ideal as a halfway location between Galway and Westport. Croke Patrick, Kylemore Abbey, Galway City, all within a short driving distance through amazing scenery. The staff were also very friendly and we had a great relaxing stay.

My daughter and I thought it was a fine place and enjoyed our short stay. One of 10 nights in Ireland, it was one of the best. The proprietor (behind the registration desk) was welcoming and very helpful. Could have been better with WIFI.

We stayed in this hotel on our way to Croach Patrick. Hotel looked nice and clean. We were the only guests in the hotel, so it was quiet as well. Probably that's why there was no heating in the hotel and the hotel room was a bit cold. However, it was ok to sleep. Seul petit bémol : l'humidité des lieux ce qui laisse une forte odeur dans les couloirs à cause de la moquette au sol (mais pas perceptible dans notre chambre). Peacocke's Hotel liegt mitten im Nirgendwo, an einer Straßenkreuzung, die einen eigenen Namen trägt, wo es sonst aber nicht viel gibt.
