"High point of our trip"
Great place to stay. Like a B&B only without the breakfast. All rooms are on suite and very comfortable. Location is perfect for Seaside, very close to the ocean and board walk. Had just spent over a week traveling and staying at various hotels and this one was a standout. It's an old Victorian house and it feels great. A needed and welcome change from regular hotels. Do wish they would include at least a continental breakfast. Will be going back in the fall for a longer stay. Earns a 5 star from me.

"Bed and Breakfast (without breakfast)"
The Gilbert Inn is a charming place stay, and close to the beach. We hoped for a little better view of the ocean, but we had just a peek. The staff seemed to hide in their back room a little bit, I don't think we ever saw them at the front desk, but that's ok. It made it feel like we were staying at Grandma's house while she is on vacation rather than being watched every time we made a move. There are no fridges or microwaves in the rooms, so we ended up wasting a lot of leftovers. The first day we were there,we were provided with 2 bottles water, some breakfast snacks and some taffy. That was a nice touch, but we stayed more than one day, and I felt like the room should have been totally refreshed every day as if we had checked out and back in, but all we got on our subsequent days was our bed made and our towels folded back up on the racks. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay. For the price,it wasn't a bad deal, but when you classify yourself as a "bed and breakfast", I expected just a little bit more from the staff. I didn't realize breakfast wouldn't be included until after we'd already booked the room, otherwise we would've chose somewhere else.

"Beautiful Historic Inn"
The Gilbert Inn is a beautifully maintained historic inn located near both the beach and shopping. My room was comfortable, very clean and quiet despite staying on New Year's Eve. It is strictly an inn with no breakfast provided, but several good restaurants are within walking distance. I would recommended the Gilbert Inn to others and hope to return for another stay.

"Wonderful Victorian Inn"
The Inn has not lost any of its charm in the last 20 years but the location has been heavily surrounded by 8 story condos providing a canyon affect of noise and lights. From our quaint turret room we could still see a 6" patch of the ocean.

"A Little Disappointed This Time Around"
This was our second stay at the Gilbert Inn within the past three years. Our first stay was exceptional this one, however, was lacking. We stayed in the Kimberly Room. The first thing we noticed were two large stains on the carpet. A couple of times we were met at the front desk with a sign stating "they would be back in a few minutes". We booked a room with a queen bed and got a full size bed instead. Our biggest concern was the bathroom. The toilet was about as small as one could get and the shower was not built for someone over 5 1/2 feet tall. I am six foot and found myself, even with the shower nozzle has high as it could go, having to bend over to take a shower. On the plus side the cleaning staff did a great job. We will most likely look for other accomodations on our next visit.

"Charming Victorian getaway"
Although were were on a girl's trip, I kept thinking of how perfect the Victorian house would be for a romantic getaway. Charmingly decorated while maintaining a lot of the original wood and antique furniture. Very clean and well kept. Short walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and shops. Very friendly staff. I only wish there had been a breakfast to make it a true B & B! Would love to come back with my husband.

"Cozy room"
my wife and I would probably stay here again but would request an upstairs room. It was very noisy you could here the guy next door clear his throat and the people upstairs you could here walking around. The toilet was very low to the ground your knees could almost touch your chin. The last thing at night the out side lights lit the room up so it was hard to fall asleep. Very nice people and very clean.

"Okay, but lacking in key amenities"
The Inn was quaint and historical and the staff was friendly. However, our room was extremely small. The bed was so small it did not adequately accommodate my wife and me and was not very comfortable. There was no desk and only a single chair to sit on. Needless to say we could not spend any time in our room. The TV was a 19 inch computer monitor and could barely be viewed from the bed. The hotel comes across as a Bed & Breakfast but they do not have meals or a restaurant. There are no other amenities such as pool or spa. Although the place is clean, in a great location and a bit unique it falls short of its $140 per night price tag. We won`t be back.

"Unique setting at beach resort town"
We enjoyed the ambiance of The Gilbert Inn and its location near the beach. It was a bit of a struggle to get our luggage up to the 2nd floor (no elevator) but it was a minor trade-off to not be in a standard box hotel. The in-room coffee was excellent. I usually have to make the coffee with half the water to be drinkable. Staff was friendly and responsive to requests. We were a little surprised that a hotel of this sort did not serve breakfast as well.

"Charming inn amongst sea of big box hotels"
We couldn't believe our great fortune in stumbling upon the Gilbert Inn on our first trip to Seaside. Both rooms had ocean views. Located just one block off of the beach front promenade, this historic home turned hotel was the perfect place to stay. Originally a stately home, the inn contains 10 rooms that have been updated with modern plumbing and electrical systems while maintaining period charm. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. Room 10 on the top floor was a gem. It includes a dormer sitting area, full bath and a double bed on one side and two singles tucked away on the opposite end. The only caution: the stairs can be a bit steep, so it is not the best option for those with mobility challenges. Overall a great experience at a great rate!

"Nice Bed & Breakfast type place (minus breakfast)"
The people and location of the Inn are great. The place is clean as well. The bed was terribly uncomfortable for my wife and I. It was too soft, we ended up with sore backs after just two nights. There also isn't much in the way of privacy. We can hear a lot of what's going on in other rooms around us and the building would shake on it's own at times, jolting us awake. The location to the beach is great during the day. At night it's proximity becomes an annoyance as inebriated people make their way to and from the beach all night. Since there is no AC in the room we had the windows open. We were also disappointed that there wasn't a mini-fridge in the bedroom. Since there is no ice machine or anything we would have liked to have been able to keep a few bottles of water cold. This place does not qualify to be rated as a three star facility.

"Good Location for Adults Near the Beach"
Great location, just a block off the Prom, which is a two mile walkway running parallel to the beach. The Gilbert House is very old, and has a lot of character. The stairs creak and the house has that very old smell to it. However, the bathroom was modern, with a very nice shower, the bed was very comfortable, and the room was surprisingly quiet. I didn't hear any noise from the other guests while in the room, however there were no young children there during our four-day stay. I think it's a great place for couples, but not a lot to offer for kids. There is no air conditioning, which required the window to be open in late July. With the open window and the ceiling fan, the room was pleasantly warm, not too hot for us to sleep. Unfortunately, the open window was a source of noise when late-night beach goers walked past the house, or a car left the parking garage next door. This was not too much for us to bare, but it was slight inconvenience. There was no breakfast provided, even though there is a modern looking sun room and outdoor deck that looked like a dining area. Fresh fruit was provided with an assortment of tea, and there were freshly baked cookies one day. The cookies may be a daily thing, we just weren't at the hotel every afternoon, when I think they were served.

"Cozy hotel near the beach"
I had a lovely stay here. The staff were super friendly, the room was immaculate, and the Inn was super close to the beach. I was traveling solo and felt very safe/comfy here. In fact, I slept like a baby on the super comfy bed. The Inn was steps from the boardwalk which make for a nice evening stroll along the beach. It was also really close to all of the various restaurants, shops, etc. You could easily .bop back and forth between the Inn, beach, and boardwalk. The Inn is ideal for solo guests and couples or folks who are more low key travelers. It's a quiet place at night so rowdy groups/ families with young kids may opt for a different space. (You'd probably feel out of place/a bit stifled.)

"Very disappointed with room and location"
The Inn itself looks nice, but our room clearly had a heavy smoker in it before our visit. Housekeeping should have caught that before we arrived, but all they did for us was give us a fan and spray fabrease in the room. Also, the Inn didn't offer any kind or breakfast (we should have caught that in the description, but we assumed it was a B&B). The location was disappointing because the neighborhood is filled with high rise buildings and generally pretty noisy so this Inn seems to be out of place. Not the romantic spot we had hoped for.

The Gilbert Inn was an unexpected delight for me!! Historical, quaint, yet every need attended to. Parking available, close to Broadway and the turnaround. Old-fashioned details that warmed my heart. Not sure I would have been comfortable with kids present, and it is not set up for food in the room, but it was just right for me! While the public areas of the Inn are beautiful and welcoming, the rooms are very spare. Don't look here for any homey touches or small luxuries. The bed was comfortable but squeeky, linens very basic, and what is with that shower? If you are any taller than 4' its hard to get wet! The Inn could improve service for guests substantially with little cost by providing morning coffee/tea and maybe some yummy pasteries in the common area and maybe some evening tea. And water in the rooms (the tap water is awful). It's the little things that make all the difference.
