This should be one of the nicest hotels to stay in: great location, beautiful view, gorgeous building. But the staff can't sweat any details. The pillows alone are enough of a reason not to stay at this hotel: just a small wad of batting stuffed in a pillowcase! BUT the primary reason to STAY AWAY is that they are a DISCO at night. A huge party was […] held downstairs on our first night--really rowdy, tables being pounded, till 2 am. So incredibly loud. Unbelievable. When I asked at the desk the next morning whether there would be a party again the second night (so we could try a different room or hotel, esp. b/c my husband wasn't feeling well), the staff person LIED to me and said, "Oh no. That was just last night." Of course there was a party the next night, too. When we finally complained at 1am, the desk manager told us he'd ask the party to quieten--"since no one had complained until" then. They were 10 decibels quieter for about 10 minutes--and the party sounds pounded until 2:30am. Better to charge more for the rooms and be a Quality Hotel than a disco, I think. Read more

NIMES is a wonderful city especially at night. Résidence Le Cheval Blanc is right across the street from the Roman Arena as advertised. It is not well staffed. There was no one available to show us (a little more detail ) about parking. Even though the hotel is literally around the corner from a Tourist Agency- the reception did not have a local map […] of the area. The lighting is very low. The room had a separate WC with no sink!! So it was curious. Happily, there are a number of out door cafes around the Arena. We enjoyed several. A better choice to stay in NIMES would have been the NOVOTEL. this is definately not 2 blocks from the train station - more like 7 through a construction zone. Very difficult to find at 10 pm in the dark and then the front desk was closed. Horrible bare room with no where to sit or put your luggage.

We looked out our window right at the Roman Amphitheater across the street. The room was very comfortable, the staff friendly, and the location exceeded our expectations. A short walk behind the hotel satisfied my wife's browsing while I enjoyed taking pictures of the immaculate streets and shops of the neighborhood. It was very difficult finding the hotel whilst negotiating the narrow, one-way roads in this busy old town area. The name of the hotel is on the top of the building--far from a driver's view. My daughter and I circled the old town area for a good half hour before finally parking near the Arena and walking our way around the circle. One thing I did not appreciate was that, on check out day, we left to have breakfast at 8 a.m. and returned at 11:00 a.m. to find a stranger's bag in our (previously) locked room. The housekeeping staff stopped by and told us they were depositing bags in rooms from a tour group. Very bad for our security and the security of the owner of the bag deposited in our room. I checked with the front desk and they confirmed that check out was at noon. She offered no explanation for the incident. The trickiest part is figuring out how to park the car and find the hotel; GPS will not help since there are many one-way streets. The dramatic staircase, modern but comfortable room, amazing view of the Arena, and convenience of the wine bar and restaurant in the hotel were all very pleasant surprises. The location was great- very close to most attractions, close to the train station, etc. I was there for a couple of nights and used the hotel as a hub to travel to other places. Although I didn't use it there was a little kitchenette in the cupboard. We travelled from Australia with 2 children aged 16 and 11 who shared our room with us. The room was spacious, clean and we had a lovely view from our window of the Arena - which is fantastic and much nicer than the Colesseum in Rome! Nimes' newly refurbished town square is beautiful and the town is genuinely lovely. We caught the train down from Paris […] and walked with our suitcases to Residence Le Cheval Blanc easily from the station. Restaurants and everything you need is so close you can walk. Rooms are spacious and set up for a self catering stay with microwave oven and various pans and utensils. There is a central stone staircase leading to all floors which is very dark but supposedly lit by push button lighting which times itself out automatically. Several were inoperative during our stay. The hotel is clean and very well appointed, […] standing directly opposite the Roman amphitheatre. As far as I could ascertain there is no street parking in Nimes, but there is a large underground car park -'Parking des Arenes' 200m meters away which is pricey at 16 euros per day. There are no special rates in the carpark for hotel residents, but the plus side is that the car park is signposted from all directions as you enter the town, which makes the hotel very easy to find if you are driving. Breakfasts were a huge let down with the same stale fruit reappearing for each of the 4 days that we were there. The fruit salad is of the tinned variety. On one occasion they had run out of bread at 0930 and on another they had run out of croissants. Teaspoons are the only spoons provided which makes cereal eating something of a challenge if you like it with milk. Some tables were laid with glasses for fruit juice others with plastic cups. The 2 chambermaids who looked after our room were absolutely delightful and very helpful. Breakfasts notwithstanding, I would recommend the hotel as an ideal base in the centre of Nimes. Read more

very good location just opposite the Arean!! 5 Minuties walk from train station. Big window with the amazing Arean view. Spacious room, big and comfortable bed. Bath room is big with separate toilet. There is a small kitchentte, it should be handy if you want to make your own food. Lots of cafes / restaurants around.

Large room and comfortable bed. Roadworks make access to the hotel by car somewhat complicated but parking easy with main underground car park nearby. Soundproofing was not good but all guests were quiet. Toilet came without a toilet seat as a previous guest had broken it. Should really be replaced immediately.

An excellent hotel in a superb location, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Residence Le Cheval Blanc. You should also try the Wine Bar Le Cheval Blanc, located just next door to the hotel, the food was spectacular and the wine list almost overwhelming. We will most certainly return to both.

L'accès n'est déjà pas évident avec les inombrables sens uniques et rues pietonnes... il faudra s'affranchir d'un onéreux parking publique pour garer son véhicule. Une fois arrivé dans la chambre, pas de télé... impossible a allumer. Il aura fallu me changer 3 fois de chambre pour que l'on m'indique qu'un interrupteur général alimentait entre autre […] la fameuse tv... malheureusement la mauvaise reception brouillant les chaines aura fini de me convaincre de ne pas l'utiliser ce soir.. Tant pis! allons bosser dur l'ordi portable. Zut, plus de batterie et la prise à côté du lit ne fonctionne plus. Dommage. L'heure du bain. J'ai eu peur de devoir prendre un bain d'eau a peine tiède, mais par chance au bout de 5 min l'eau chaude arrive enfin. Et maintenant, dodo. 2 heures du matin, réveillé par l'effroyable insonnorisation des chambres vers le couloir resonnant, avec les portes qui claquent, bruits de pas etc... sans doutes du aux hauts plafonds. Sorti de ce peu flateur constat, rien a redir sur la propreté, le cadre très joli face aux arènes de Nîmes. Mais je n'y retournerai pas. Read more
