This was a beautiful B&B. My fiance and I started our honeymoon off here before heading to the Hyatt Regency. It is a great change of pace from the larger hotels. The Ho'oilo house is in a remote location overlooking the ocean. The owners Dan and Amy are very accommodating. I highly recommend staying here on your next visit to Maui!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
What an amazing stay! We loved staying at the Ho'olio House. Relaxing and beautiful! If you are looking for a home away from home, we definitely recommend staying here.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Superb Romantic Retreat"
I miss it already! The Ho'oilo House is as romantic and peaceful a place one could hope for on a honeymoon or other couples vacation. The decorations and stylings of the rooms, pool and grounds were aesthetically superior to any hotel and it was very private. We loved the outdoor shower and the views of the ocean every morning. Our hosts were helpful […] and provided us with lots of good tips and advice to maximize our trip, and they allowed us to borrow beach toys, guide books and other handy items for fun during our stay. We loved it and can't wait to return! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Nalu room has a perfect view from the bedroom especially the shower placeGenuine Expedia guest review
Great view of ocean from afar (hilltop view); Quiet, residential neighborhood; Beautiful house; Great hosts; Small Bed & Breakfast feel / less 'anonymous' feel than a large hotel; Yummy organic breakfast choices; Small to med sized pool that is not heated; Bali-esque feel with outdoor showers, but with that comes the random giant bugs that come with […] outdoor accessible places. "Nice view, good location, very quiet"
We stayed here for our honeymoon. We really enjoyed the ocean view and sunset everyday from the private patio (although anybody can walk into your patio). Everything was clean. Great customer service. Breakfast was very good also. The bathroom had no door, so I could see my husband using toilet from lying on the bed... (I had to ask him to leave when […] I had to use it). I guess some rooms have doors, so you might wanna pick one of those rooms if you are not comfortable using bathrooms in front of somebody. Shower was outside, so when I wanted to take a shower at night, it was dark, super windy, and cold. It looks very nice, though. We had the romantic package which I highly recommend. Glenn, the chef, was very friendly and professional. The food was excellent!! Expensive but it's worth it!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Loved the outdoor shower and the tranquil gardens. Highly recommended.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Absolutes Muss in Maui"

Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We enjoyed the peace and quiet the Ho'oilo House offered. Our hosts, Dan and Amy, were welcoming, friendly and very hefpful. Breakfast was served buffet style and the food was delicious and plentiful (amazing homemade mufffins every morning). The rooms were beautiful and the outdoor showers were a unique feature. Mahalo for a great stay in Maui.

When we went to Maui - first trip - we wanted to find something more personal, more unique, and more luxurious than we could find at the large resorts. While perusing TripAdvisor, I found the review for Ho'olio House, and I'm glad I did. My wife and I spent the first part of our honeymoon at Ho'olio House at the end of September. This was not only our first introduction to Maui, but our first introduction to Hawaii. I can't explain how wonderful the location, the rooms, and the hosts - Dan and Amy - are, and how much we enjoyed our time there. While I could pick any number of things - the views, the comfort of the rooms, the unique outdoor shower ... I would say our favorite thing was the elegant landscaping - out every window, and around every corner, there was something unique, beautiful, and relaxing. Every morning, we walked out of our suite, and looked out over the ponds, down into the yard, and out to the ocean ... and we smiled. We were there during a time when the Kona Winds hit, so it was abnormally warm (mid 90s) and the room A/C kept us very comfortable. The pool was a wonderful afternoon treat ... and we never really saw the other guests, except around breakfast and in passing on our way to dinner. We had a nice afternoon rain shower ... which started while we were taking an outdoor shower ... *sigh* Pros: Beautiful, relaxing scenery. Very helpful and polite hosts. Stunning relaxation. Views, views, views. Nice pool, good breakfast, convenient to Lahaina, Ka'anapali, Ma'alea, and points south. Cons: ... well its not on the beach, which some may consider a negative. But, the closest beach is at the bottom of the hill where there is plentiful parking - and unlike a beach location, its private and quiet.
"Beauty and attention to detail"

When we arrived, the plumeria trees were in full bloom, so the sensory experience set the tone for the week. From running water fountains, to inlaid mother-of-pearl designs on our door, to the outdoor shower, we knew this was a special place, far more enchanting than a standard hotel room. Throughout our week's stay, we were pleasantly surprised by Dan's helpful attention. We also appreciated their efforts to be eco-conscious, including growing some of their own fruit to add to the breakfast buffet. The pool was another favorite, and merited almost as many pictures as the other components of our trip! A lovely place we hope to return to someday. Mahalo Dan and Amy!

"Stay here in Maui if you're looking for a B&B"
09/03/14 innermeetme East Quogue, New York
Excellent experience- can't wait to go back one day. Would advise to anyone. Outrageous views very nice and spacious rooms (outdoor showers) Kind and professional service- hands off when you need it hands on when you need help Awesome pool Always coffee and tea (the good stuff) Solid breakfast (they made us Gluten Free Muffins) It's a B&B, if you're looking for privacy & seclusion outside the room- not the ideal place, that said, the grounds were really beautiful just not sprawling (go to the beach!!) They're a welcoming mainland-transplant family. There's some construction going on nearby (it's a residential neighborhood) - it's not overwhelming, but if a bit of noise during the day drives you crazy- you've been warned.
"Wish we could stay here again"

After a long flight from the UK we arrived at Ho'olio House in the dark (the sat nav was invaluable) not knowing what to expect. As it was late our hosts had left us a key and a welcoming letter explaining which was our room and the times for breakfast. Our first impressions were that we were walking into someone’s beautiful home which was furnished perfectly to compliment the amazing open plan entrance and sitting area. On waking the next morning and venturing outside our breath was taken away by the incredible views from the garden, the wonderful swimming pool and the design and location of what was going to be our home for the next three days. We helped ourselves to a superb breakfast which we ate by the pool soaking up the sunshine and perfect silence. Afterwards Dan, our host, suggested that we take the car to Lahaina, explore the town and have lunch in one of the many restaurants. We followed his advice and had a great time. We cannot praise Ho'olio House enough which is probably the best accommodation that we have ever stayed in. It’s ideal if you want a peaceful break in a fantastic location with excellent breakfasts in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The experience will remain with us for ever!!! We only wish that it was not so far from the UK.
"Don't pass this place up"

Just got back from our honeymoon and the Ho'oilo House was one of the highlights of the trip. It is in the perfect area, set away from the chaos of hotel chains along blackrock beach, yet still only a 10 minute drive to said beach - a 4 minute drive to Front Street. Dan, the owner, was knowledgable, funny, and friendly - happy to help at every turn. They put out a delicious breakfast every morning and keep the residence looking immaculate. This was a little pricier than what me and my wife are used to but it was absolutely worth it. Don't stay anywhere else!

What a great place to stay, Dan and Amy were fantastic hosts. The breakfast was really good with lots of fresh fruit, home made bread and lovely juices. We had a hic up with our car hire and did not end up with a car but no need to worry, it was really easy to get a taxi up and down. taxi was there in under 10 min and was about $20 to get to Lahaina. Will definatly stay here again on our next trip to Maui
"Perfect place for a wedding"
06/09/14 AyBeeOh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
We were married at Ho'oilo House a few years ago, so although our experience can't be called "recent," it may still be helpful for anyone considering a wedding on site. For us, our wedding (just the two of us, the minister, and the photographer) went off without a hitch. We worked with the recommended coordinator (Leah, though that may have changed) and everything was planned and executed perfectly from beginning to end. We shipped our dress and suit ahead of time, and the coordinator made sure they were pressed and ready to go. She also handled the flowers, which we selected ahead of time, and they were perfect. The woman who did my hair and makeup was awesome, and the minister we chose (Kimo) was delightful. Our photos were just beautiful with the Maui mountains and ocean as the backdrop. It was exactly what we wanted in a wedding--a simple, elegant ceremony. If you're a control freak, this may not be the option for you, but we wanted a low-stress wedding, and we sure got it! One note: if you want to be married ON a beach, look elsewhere--but at least in our experience, the photographer drove with us to a small beach at the bottom of the hill, where we got some good shots. We chose Ho'oilo House because it was small (read: private) and adults-only (again, may have changed). We stayed in Kohola, which offered a lovely view of the water. The outdoor shower was pretty amazing. The only time we saw other guests was at breakfast (delicious, BTW), and even then everyone seemed to keep to themselves. Note that the location of Ho'oilo House is somewhat residential, so you will have to drive a bit to get to a public beach with parking. But all told, Ho'oilo House is an excellent place to consider for your Maui vacation. I wouldn't be commenting years later if I didn't still believe it to be true!
"Comfortable and awesome views"

Great place to stay. We only stayed one night, but it was an excellent stay. The views are magnificent, food great, and felt very comfortable during stay. Please expect that there may be a few bugs, but no major concern as the enviornment was authentic to a Hawiian experience.
