Good value hotel for our purposes. Good ammenities and clean, comfotable beds. Breakfast has good but very expensive. We ate off-site every day. Otherwise a positive overall experience.

I was looking for a hotel or B&B for a one day stay in Edinburgh prior to a flight back to the US. This Holiday Inn turned out to be a very good choice. It is located right next to the Edinburgh Zoo - it literally shares a common entrance with the zoo! There is a bus stop outside the hotel if you wish to visit the city center area (Princes St, Royal […] Mile, etc.) and the airport is also down the road 5 miles away. The Haymarket railway station is only 2 miles away! This was perfect for my short stay - nice, clean, comfortable room; fast check in and check out. No complaints. A bit away from the downtown but buses 26 and 31 were available in front of the hotel. Not many places to eat near the hotel and internet was a bit pricey. Otherwise it was okay.

the staff at the front desk were very kind and helpful. the shower curtain in the bathroom smelled very sour and the front part of the room smelled that way as a result. one of the managers, NOT sarah, told us we werent allowed to eat in the lobby because the chairs were for guests in the bar. i didn't understand this and pointed out to him that there […] were no other people in the lobby, aside from those passing thru on their way to the elevator. this bothered me and seemed unecessary. there is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel which makes it convenient when getting to the new town portion of edinburgh but it's kind of far out and away from that part of town. overall it was fine but the gentleman mgr needs a little work on his customer service skills. Me and my partner stayed at the holiday inn as we were in Edinburgh to see Derren Brown at the playhouse. The hotel was lovely and clean, all the staff we dealt with were very helpful, polite and we had a lovely waiter who we had a really good laugh with. We had our evening meal and breakfast and we were very impressed with the food. Our room was lovely […] and clean and very comfortable. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel, with buses every 10 minutes it provides easy access into the city centre. Sadly our stay was only one night, we really wanted to stay longer. We really enjoyed our stay and have not got one bad word about the hotel. We are looking at staying here again asap so we can take our son and enjoy Edinburgh!! Read more

The check-in went smoothly in less than a minute and the young lady was welcoming. It wss a family weekend away and were allocated two standard rooms as per booking. My wife and I stayed in Room 124. The first impression of the room was not good at all for a four star hotel. I could hear the occupants in the next room tslking.The arm rest of the sofa […] was worn out. The second sofa had what looked like oil stains. The mattress could have been better. I liked the power of the shower. The staff I met were all pleasant. The food was good but limited variety. We enjoyed the view from our upgraded room. We booked standard and were given executive. There was an excellent TV with all the channels that we needed. Porridge for breakfast was not to my taste and 'creamy' it certainly wasn't. Taxi from station cost £12.50. Bus (exact money only!) was £1.50.

The hotel is in a good location adjacent to Edinburgh Zoo, close to Murrayfield and on direct bus links to the City. The staff were helpful and efficient and give good public transport information. The room itself was a little small for a double room and this means that the double bed is right up against a wall at one side. Otherwise, very good.

Hotel rated 4 star but definitely not a 4 star hotel! Our room with two children aged 14 and 10 was very shabby as was the corridor and room doors. We stayed at a Premier Inn 2 weeks ago and was in a better state than this hotel. Pool and spa area small but served its purpose. Dinner was Pricey for what it was and not particularly great. The very annoying aspect that really puts me off was the fact that a special January bar drinks prices promotion was shown on posters in the lift and rooms lobby, price reductions well flagged up and then the very small print at the bottom […] of the notice said that to get these special January promotion price reductions you had to state: January Pub Prices Promotion with every order. No notice at the bar to be read at your leisure where you might read the small print, just the eye catching price reductions in the room/lift areas. We only noticed the small print on our last day so we had paid over the odds for all our drinks - and nothing could be done as we had not complied with the offer conditions! Our room was very nice, on the 4th floor (we prefer to be on higher floors) facing towards Edinburgh so we had lovely views. The room was exceptionally clean (and I have stayed in masses of hotels) so I am able to compare cleanliness. The bus stop is directly outside the hotel, nos 12 and 26 buses are the main ones into town. We did not take breakfast […] so cannot comment on the food or restaurant. Lovely hotel ideal location next to zoo and on a good public transport route. On arrival we got there earlier than the check in time but were able to go to our room as there were lots ready we also got a choice of view eg view of the mountains or the zoo, we opted for the mountains as suggested as the animals can be noisy. Chose to stay here as it's so close to my organisation's Scottish office. It's a short bus ride from town and not really close to many restaurants and bars, so not the place if you're in town for the nightlife! In terms of food though, credit to the hotel, which has two restaurants and a good selection of bar food. We only ate from the latter, but it […] was very tasty and reasonably priced. Friendly, helpful staff, comfortable rooms, and also very handy to have an on-site gym and pool. A basic hotel of 1970's concrete box design completely lacking in character. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and this made up a little for the lack of any features. Breakfast was good and worth the money. Location is not great and is a bit out from the center of town although there is a bus stop right at the hotel door. If you are looking for somewhere to stay for one night and you can get this hotel at a discounted price then it would be ok but if you are planning a longer stay I would look for somewhere else. 1. The room was very cold - a draught blowing through the window. The AC would only blow out cold air so had the portable radiator on permanently but unless you stood over it you could barely feel it. 2. The fire alarm went off at 12:30 at night whilst there so had to gather outside in our PJ's for over 1/2 hr - although eventful I found it distressing […] to see other elderly guests struggling with unwrapping the foil blankets during the exercise - we stepped in to help - no explanation was given by the staff for the alarm going off. 3. Hotel was lovely, however the rooms, although clean and comfortable were a bit tired looking. As we were taking our daughter to the zoo, hotel was ideally situated and the bus only took 15 mins to take us into Princes Street after. Will defo be back.

Very helpful reception staff. We had a few requests and all fulfilled promptly. A good stay and enjoyed. Be aware that at busy times, i.e. school holidays, like our time there, the pool and gym facilities are small and a booking system invoked. But understand. Also note the terrible road works in the city centre!! The tram system and gas works?

Stayed for one night as we were going to a concert near by. We were pleasently surprised when we turned up as quality of hotel in comparison to price was fantastic. Plenty of parking available on arrival, very friendly reception staff and very spacious, clean surroundings. The room was good but the breakfast meal was disappointing. We came down at 9 & were told find a seat. This was not a problem in itself but the majority of the tables had not been cleared or cleaned. The waiter in attendance was less than enthusiastic & had to be prompted to clear a table. In addition the cooked breakfast was very greasy.
