"Perfect Hotel in Asheville"

The hotel was amazing. I really have absolutely nothing negative to report about this trip. We met a couple celebrating a birthday and socialized with them in the bar and in the main lobby for quite some time. We discovered that it was one of their birthdays after the bar had already closed. I sought champagne so that they could properly celebrate […] her birthday, but we were let down when we learned that the bar was closed. However, the front desk clerk overheard me say, "how can you properly celebrate a birthday without champagne?," and he then decided to surprise us with a free bottle of champagne and ice cream. This amazing employee even put a candle on the ice cream. I believe his name was Blake? Not only was he a great team player for the grand Bohemian staff, he obviously has a certain great skill that often lacking in society today -- empathetic mindfulness for other human beings and their respective sutuations. This was our first trip to Asheville so we have nothing to compare it to as far as other hotels in the area. I was disappointed because the hotel was VERY expensive (over $600 a night) and it did not deliver. I have stayed at other hotels at that rate and they blew this one away. It obviously was because of the time of the year (Christmas) that drove […] the rate up so high. I would not go back during this time nor pay that rate for any hotel in this area. The hotel itself was nice but not over the top. It has a bavarian type theme and is relatively small. The rooms were nice and the bathroom was the best part with heated floors in the private water closet area. There was no tub but a generous walk-in shower. The staff was friendly and helpful, although there was an incident that did not bode well for the bar staff. The hotel provided complimentary coffee all day and evening but we came in late one night after the coffee service was cleared. We went to the bar and asked for coffee and were charged $5.00 a cup by one of the bartenders. On the other hand, my granddaughter had ordered a club soda from another bartender and she gave it to her at no charge. I guess it depends on who you get. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, we even received a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. The room was clean and very comfortable and the bathroom was immaculate. My only complaint is related to the number of housekeeping carts that congregated on the second floor. I am sure there is a method to the madness but there were times that the […] we had to run a gauntlet of 6-8 carts to get to the elevator. Considering the number of housekeeping staff on hand we were surprised to find that after leaving our room from 10-3 our room had not be cleaned. Not a big deal, I made the bed and we had towels but for the price and reputation I expected a quick clean and waste can emptying. Our waiter, Paul, in the Red Stag Restaurant was outstanding. We stayed 2 nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and are very pleased we chose the Grand Bohemian. It is a unique hotel with a hunting lodge/ bohemian decor. Original art is displayed through out the lobby, hallways and in the rooms. We enjoyed the concierges style check- in as it made the process intimate and comfortable. Nick was especially […] helpful. We needed to change our room and Jordan, night manager was outstanding. Our bellman Mickey was another true professional and very helpful during our stay. Staying in Ashville means one of two things to most people: Staying at Biltmore or the Grove Park Inn. Both are wonderful, but it was really nice to try something else out. Grand Bohemian is definitely a step in a different direction. The decor, layout, etc. are all very different from most hotels. But in a very good way. Our room was absolutely fantastic. We made reservation simply because the location was close to the Biltmore estate which was the focus of our trip. Our Anniversary was special and became even more special when they provided us with a special bottle of champagne. Because of our standing in the Marriott Rewards program we were upgraded to a beautiful suite. When we returned that evening for dinner we were presented with two glasses of champagne that was compliments of one of the hotel guest. She had over heard our conversation at the bar earlier and wanted to add to our special night. The dinner was magnificent and the service was impeccable! We chose to have breakfast in our room the next day. The food was prepared as ordered, served hot, and in a timely manner. The hotel is beautiful and the service was first class. Our room was lovely however if you do not require much sleep this is not the hotel for you. The train travels by the hotel several times during the night. Also, our room was either next to the washing machine area or there was a bad ac unit above our room. Front desk staff and parking attendants are wonderful and helpful. Poor design of the room and bathroom. Cleaning staff lacks training. Linens are not fitting the price of the room. This hotel is the epitome of customer service. I accidentally booked for the wrong weekend and realized my mistake on the 6th hour of a 7 hour drive. I called the receptionist Liz in a panic to tell her we were an hour out and ask if there was any way she could she help us. She made it happen despite the late hour over a holiday weekend AND a wedding […] party staying at the hotel! I had originally requested a room with a tub but with the date mix up, there wasn't a room with a tub available. To our surprise on the last night Al was able to move us into a GORGEOUS room with a tub on our last night! Throughout our stay Liz, Robyn, and Al provided free happy hour, exquisite dinning recommenations, and made our stay absolutely wonderful! Were there for 2 nights. Hotel is amazingly beautiful and comfortable. We found all staff members friendly and service oriented, perhaps best all around was bellman who collected our items the final day and helped move some antiques from one care to another. "A one-of-a-kind hotel"
The Grand Bohemian is hard to describe - a mixture of African Safari, Sound of Music, and Soho in NYC. We had asked for a high floor in the main building and got it. We were welcomed with a glass of champagne and friendly service. Liz was wonderful at the front desk and answered our questions. The Biltmore Estates was right there and we enjoyed eating […] in the Biltmore village (breakfast at The Corner Kitchen and dinner at the Cantina and Reza were good choices). Our room had a great tub and a comfortable bed. Great furniture, detailed woodworking throughout hotel. It may not be for everyone but it certainly was for us. A comfortable, eclectic and classy place without any airs. I loved all the different chandeliers and artwork. The valets were friendly as well. We didn't make use of the bar (but many guests did) but perhaps next time. It was a great start to a visit to Charlotte and Asheville (our first time in North Carolina). I extremely enjoyed my stay at the Grand Bohemian. The architecture & art is absolutely beautiful! The room was exceptionally nice. "Magnificent Hotel at the doorstep of Biltmore"
From check in to when we had to leave, the staff continued to be knowledgeable and friendly. We had a medical need and asked to be checked in early if possible, they came through gladly. Stayed in the Manor House , their annex across the street from the main hotel. The room was spacious and well appointed. We ate dinner in the hotel dining room, which lived up to our recollection of some previous visit to Asheville.
