We booked this hotel online and, after comparing a few places in Athens, we decided on the Crown Plaza hotel as it was listed as a 5-star hotel and was well reviewed, even described as luxurious by one reviewer. This is definitely not a 5-star hotel, far from it. We were disappointed, but after spending a good few days in Athens and seeing three of […] the big name hotels in the city (we looked at everything including the guestrooms and facilities) it was clear that the majority of the hotels in the city are dated and of relatively low standard. Nevertheless, we decided to make the most of our holiday and not dwell too much on the disappointment. The manager of the hotel was curteous and accommodating, and did his best to help. Hotel staff were reasonably pleasant and helpful, but the catering staff at the breakfast were very good. Breakfast itself was quite basic and nothing to write home about. There is a very small pool at roof level, but that's what you get in city centre hotels. Read more

My wife and I spent 2 days in Athens at the end of a cruise in the Crowne Plaza and enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was excellent and very helpful. We appreciated their English. The room was very clean and had a fun design with a lot of nice features. Some other reviewers noted the proximity to a strip club which we noticed but this didn't seem […] to be a problem. Other then the sign we really wouldn't have known it was there. There are a LOT of nice restaurants within walking distance (2-4 blocks), they are just hard to spot at first. On our first night the staff directed us to the "Saloon" restaurant which was excellent. We ate in their outside garden. We found out later that the inside is decorated with a "Clint Eastwood / man with no name" western theme. We wish we would have checked that out. The breakfast in the roof-top restaurant is a little expensive but is worth it. Everything was good and fresh and as we ate late, this served as our lunch also. Great hotel, location and room size were both really good. Using Expedia, we booked a Non-Smoking Room and the Hotel showed us that Expedia sent them a Smoking Room request. It turned out that the Smoking Room was less offensive than the Non-Smoking room. The hotel apologized and gave us a upgraded non-smoking room.

We just wanted a nice bathroom, clean room and nice pool for a day in Athens after using shared boat showers and toilets for a week. For the price, this place was amazing! I think we paid slightly more because my girlfriend liked the pictures of the bathroom, and we were extremely happy with the ambiance, the cleanliness, and the comfort of the room. The rooms are ultra modern & cozy with very comfortable beds and very nice bathrooms. There is a roof top bar & pool which is pretty cool if u want to chill or catch some rays & the hotel also has a air-conditioned gym with sauna and a massage area :) ok the negatives, there isn't anything around the hotel that is anything special including cafes & restaurants that I could really recommend. The hotel is pretty pricey on food, drinks and not to mention wifi. The location was handy to the subway (2-3 blocks), great restaurants (esp. the Saloon restaurant around the corner), and museums. We had a view of Lycabettus Hill out our window. The cost of this room far out weights its value. It's a business hotel, clean, basic, easy taxi ride to meetings. Not for vacationers, the pool is tiny and the bar area is basically the check in lobby.

Not located in a shopping district and choices of fine dining within walking distance is limited, however; you can get on the metro and be where the action is within two stops. A big negative for this hotel is the charge for Internet access - 15Euro a day per device. If you have a laptop and a iPhone they count as two and you will be speinding 30Euro per day. A second negative comment is that their breakfast buffet is very basic and bad. My fiance is half Greek and lives in Athens - therefore we regularly visit Athens but usually stay at his family home. We are getting married in Athens in the summer and decided to check out this hotel to see if we could recommend it to out guests. We spent 1 night in the Crowne Plaza and thought it was great. From Megaro Mousikis station (metro line […] which carries on directly to the centre) it is an easy 2 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel itself is very spacious, modern, lots of amenities (gym, small plunge pool, restaurant and bar). The rooms had everything you would need with an American style feel - large comfortable bed, toiletries, iron, kettle, mini-bar/fridge and large modern and clean bathroom. The best feature was the sound-proofed windows. Our room was on the main road over-looking Lycabettus and we could not hear any sound from the road below at all. The staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was immaculate. It is not in the city centre but if you are comfortable with taking the metro or even a taxi, you are no more than 5 minutes from the centre, but benefit from larger more modern rooms by being a little further outside the city. We will definitely be recommending this hotel to all of our wedding guests coming to Athens. Room Tip: All the rooms were soundproofed so try and ask for a view of Lycabettus on the main road. There is the option for executive rooms which have their own lounge area for exclusive use of the executive room holders. Read more

Staff were not the most friendliest or welcoming...hotel rooms were spacious and in very quiet location, however was a 25 minute walk to Syngtama although metro was fairly close (beware of sudden strikes!!) Overall hotel was ok but probably wouldn't return.

Great hotel conveniently located near the center of Athens. It was great for business and pleasure. After a day's work it was easy to visit stores and area attractions nearby. Metro/subway located nearby within walking distance. Also noticed in the evening there was a small conference in the hotel in their banquet room area, as well as plenty of people […] in the hotel bar in the evening. Valet service parked my car and brought it in front of the hotel as often as I wanted. The printer had a small problem in the business area, but the staff was kind enough to let me use the VIP lounge to print. My wife and I and 2 of our chldren age 16 (daughter) and 9 (son) were in Athens to vist family. This is something we have being doing regularly for the last few years. We are reasonably familiar with the city and when planning the trip this time we were after a little affordable luxury in a convenient , safe location and have to say our choice was spot […] on. The children loved the hotel, their room, the service and all the little extras provided and so did we. We honestly could not find fault with the hotel. If you are inclined to go into the city you could take a leisurly walk, all downhill, via the old Olympic stadium and Temple of Zeus (which we did) ending up in Plaka or you could get the tube from the nearby station, a short walk away and be in the town centre in 5 minutes. My wife and I thought the hotel was excellent and good value for money . We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the food but the restaurants, decor and menus looked great and I am sure the food would be too. Taxis were always on hand at the entrance and although public transport is excellent and very cheap, taxi fares are nowhere near as expensive as in the UK and if there are a few of you they are a realistic alternative to public transport. The immediate location itself is not touristy but any part of the city is interesting and there is much to explore. Read more
