My son and I stayed there overnight while on our way to visit his great grandparents in Florida. He did not want to continue to Florida as he had such a good time here. The staff were AMAZING with him. They got him to laugh and talk, which is a big deal as he has Aspergers and is not usually comfortable in new places with new people. "Pet Friendly Super Hotel"
We needed to stay in a pet friendly hotel that was half way between our home and our daughter's home. We selected the Westin Richmond because it was halfway and pet friendly. (We have stayed in Westin hotels before but not when traveling with a "senior" pet.) We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for an overnight stay. In the morning, at breakfast, we […] asked for a special hamburger patty for our "senior" dog. She needed to be medicated to travel. There was not even a blink of an eye. It was delivered in a carry out box with our check. We enjoyed our stay so much, we made reservations for the following Sunday when we would need the halfway stop on our way home. Again, the food, the rooms, the staff were all top grade. And, our "senior" dog received her special burger for her medication. (While walking my dog, I met another traveler with a pet that supposedly was over the weight limit, but the hotel said there was no problem, and they were happily checked in. This is not in downtown Richmond, but is right off of the expressway that will get you anywhere in the area quickly. Very nice hotel, excellent staff. I suspect there are some management problems as my bathroom was not cleaned spotless from the last guest. "Oasis off of Broad Street"
I had an enjoyable stay. I particularly liked the lobby bar/restaurant. The food was excellent and reasonable, which I think makes for a better overall stay. This is especially great for those "couple" retreats where you really don't need or desire to leave the hotel. I also liked the 24-hour room service option. The room was nice and comfortable. […] But I have been in Westin(s) that were a little more plush. But still a decent presentation. My only real criticism is that the pool and gym are on the entry level of the hotel. I could only imagine the level of vulnerability -- walking from the hot tub back towards the check-in desk wearing nothing but soggy speedos. They really should given that more thought. The hotel was great, my only complaint was the price of the food in the restaurant. "Nice, but pretentious"
I stayed in two hotels in Richmond within a week, and The Westin was one of them. While it was certainly luxurious, I found the place and the people nice but a bit pretentious. I didn't get as much for my money, and I certainly didn't feel as comfortable. I was welcomed, but the atmosphere was ostentatious...almost conceited. The bathroom was chilly, […] and on a cold winter's day, we needed heat throughout our room! At the other hotel, we got a lovely breakfast and free alcoholic beverages during happy hour at the other hotel included in the price of the room, but definitely not at the Westin. Everything was extra. To me, it just wasn't worth it if I can have a much more laid back, comfortable experience at a hotel with just as nice accomodations and more perks. "a startling observation"
1. The room we were given had a chemical-like odor- we thought there was a gas leak. The staff gave us a new room. They said that the hotel laundry is below the room and fumes were coming in from below. Why do they put people in those rooms anyway?? 2. "Human Friendly vs. Dog Friendly"
Loved the hotel but was put off by the 'dog floor'. It was my fine time with a dog, so I have nothing to compare. The bed - extremely comfortable but I changed the sheets; Shower - lovely (missing shower cap but soap was a nice touch); Hotel staff - lovely. My issue were the dogs and their owners. Couldn't help thinking of owners who'd let the dog sleep […] in the arm chairs etc - didn't help that there was dog hair on the desk chair. Made moving about the room and hotel a bit uncomfortable. We only stayed one night, but the hotel lived up to its high user rating. Everything was in top condition, impeccably clean and easy on the traveler. The staff was extremely friendly, especially at the restaurant, where the waitress and the maitre d'hotel went out of their way to make sure our needs were met, even though we were just doing a nice breakfast. "Management and prepardness issues."
Due to a power outage there was no plan to provide backup power to the rooms. They provided a glow stick and said to enjoy. No A/C, no light really etc. You could tell it was a complete failure to plan accordingly. They powered the main lobby but not the important portion, the rooms. Our hotel does provide emergency power during these types of emergencies but that support is reserved to providing life safety systems only to include an elevator, elergency lighting, and lobby operations to keep the hotel open and running during an emergency. Unfortunately, we do not have a generator that will generate power to the entire hotel and in these cases, the power in the guestrooms in not considered a life safety measure. We absolutely work hard to provide as much service as possible during these conditions and I am sorry we did not meet your expectaitons. I stayed two nights at this fine establishment. I found it to be of the highest quality throughout. The room was well kept and clean. The bed was luxurious and I had two marvelous nights' sleep. Breakfast was promt and tasty. There is a five station secure business office. An upscale feature I found was that to get to your room one must card the elevator, […] which I found to be a higher level of security than most hotels. I did not use room service. I heard no complaints among other visitors. The grounds and the vast, elegant entry are very nicely maintianed. All personnel are competent and couteous, very eager to please.
