First room, stained carpet and peeling paint in shower. Moved to better room but no fridge in this one, bedside lamp shorted out, bathroom sink faucet top fell off, clock didn't work. Will not return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Kind of cute on the outside, a little run down on the inside. For the price not bad. The room was clean an the night clerk was friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comment on Los Padres Motel"
The outside of this motel looked much nicer than what inside the room was actually like. The room could use updating and repairs but for our 1 night stay it was okay.Genuine Expedia guest review
Comfortable, no problems. Got a good night of sleep; right in town near shops and restaurants.

"A place to say while staying in San Luis Obispo"
04/05/15 Kevin M
The pictures on the website looked charming, something different from the average motel. Arriving there, my feeling was "good enough". It basically was a stay-over from visiting my daughter at Cal Poly. My room interior was somewhat dated. a leftover stain here and there but clean and quiet. There was a 3 foot tall fridge & basic TV and wifi. All you need to be able to crash for the night. It is in walking distance to the downtown food & bar scene. A pleasant perk, I did not notice the Freeway/Highway which you can from some motels. There is a special rate for long term contractors at the Diablo Canyon power generating station.
"Nice small motel"

It is a very nice place. I wish we could have stayed longer. My lady took a few walks downtown while I was sleeping. Next day, we drove around San Luis Obispo and found some good food at a falafel place. I had to get on the Amtrak for my trip south to San Diego, and she had to drive back home to Bakersfield.
"Close to downtown at a reasonable price"
01/02/15 Robert H Chatsworth, California, United States
This motel is relatively close to downtown in an area with multiple hotels and motels. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Mattress was a bit hard for my taste but my daughter thought it was very comfortable. The hotel is in walking distance from a brewery and a pretty good Irish Pub. We had breakfast at the little bakery down the road. All in all, a good experience. Wireless internet is slow.
"Friendly and helpful staff"

We got recommended this motel from the HI hostel which was full. The rooms were adequate and what you would expect from a motel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They recommended and helped us book our next motel for a stay in Monterey. We visited San Luis Obispo as a half way point between a road trip from LA to San Francisco. I would definitely recommend visiting on a Thursday as they have a very lively market which fills up about a mile of the main street. They have food, gifts and live music and is packed full of locals and visitors alike. Well worth a visit.
"A dash of Mexicana and a dollop of kitsch...."

With all the basics and beyond (from microwave, refrigerator, wifi, and parking) for under $100, it is hard to criticize this little oasis. I have been staying here ever since I discovered it more than five years ago. The same Indian family has been in charge, and always ingratiating. it is a short walk to the downtown hub, where you can be a true tourist, or pretend you are a local by dropping into their lovely public library, or, if you are lucky enough to be in town on Thursday, attend their year round night time public market.
"Retro charm: Wow, this is how my parents & grandparents traveled - now I did!"

I'm a down to earth gal & loved staying here! These old adobe style, courtyard, carport motels are disappearing, like an iconic part of the American culture and being replaced by big chain hotels. Staying here felt like traveling back in time. First off, I can't help but to notice an interesting assortment of mixed reviews here. Fact 1: Hotels are fairly pricey near and in downtown San Luis Obispo. Fact 2: Most hotel prices sky-rocket on the weekends in this town but the Los Padres Motel didn't go up too drastically on the weekends. I greatly appreciated that since I was traveling on a budget. When I'm looking for a modestly priced hotel, my priorities are safety, clean rooms and a well kept property. Lost Padres met all of my criteria and more! I was very surprised by the homey and retro charm of the motel and really got attached to the atmosphere. I appreciate how it's family owned, the staff were friendly, attentive and very professional. The property was overflowing with charm with their care in potted plants, tidy landscaping and an overall inviting courtyard atmosphere. Staying at such a charming place that's near downtown and... also nestled in the coolest residential neighborhood made all the difference with my vacation. I live in a very car-city and loved the fact that I could walk around in a pleasant neighborhood and get to pretty much everything I wanted to, by foot. Some of the furniture is a bit eclectic, funky and old. But, if that's what's helping keep the prices down... leave the furniture alone! I'll take retro, charm and personality over sanitized and homogenized, in a heartbeat! A BIG THANK YOU to the staff, for keeping this motel in its original historical form. Like I said, old motels like this are getting harder to find. Thank you!! I'll definitely come back when I have the opportunity.
"Terrible customer experience - BEWARE"
07/25/14 lacrosse14 San Diego
It takes a lot for me to write a review, but I felt compelled to do it this time. I made my reservation through the hotel's own website, and received a confirmation e-mail. Upon arrival, we were told that they didn't have our reservation. After some stressful debate, the manager booked us into a 1 star motel across the street, and told us that they would take care of the charge. The following morning, we were forced to pay for the substandard room. They didn't honor our reservation and they lied about taking care of the room charge. Never again.
"Very nice place and reasonably priced as well"
07/21/14 Darren C Chico, California
We all think it is a very nice place , nothing extremely fancy but clean and comfy and less than $100 for the night, very worth the cost and would stay here again if ever back in this area . If your looking for a nice place to rest than I we recommend the place for you
"In Bad Shape and $200 a night !"
Our room had dirty cushions on the chairs, mold on the shower door, paint peeling off the wall in the bathroom and a badly worn heater grill. I would recommend you not stay there. It's worth about $50 a night, not $200. Please tell your friends. The bed was hard as a rock.

This is the worst most overpriced motel we have ever stayed in. Over $200 for a small, old, dingy room with a creaky bed, no A/C, noisy fan, falling apart shower and slow internet speed. It may be worth more like $95.
