I enjoyed our stay at La Palmera very much. It has a great pool area, the breakfast was always hot and tasty, and the staff was friendly. It was within walking distance to downtown Jaco and the beach there, and I would absolutely recommend it for those that plan to be out and about.

We stayed at Hotel La Palmera with our 2 year old and had a great time. We were in room D which had a separate seating area adjacent to the bedroom. Very cute tropical decor, lovely pool and great staff, and far enough away from the noise of Jaco but still able to walk to the supermarket (Mas X Menos) in about 25 minutes with a stroller. Gorgeous green […] mountains all around made walking enjoyable. A few tips: Bring your own toiletries; we only got a few tiny soaps, and take your showers early because the hot water seems to run out in the afternoon. The breakfast was the same everyday: scrambled eggs, gallo pinto (rice mixed with black beans), OJ, coffee, fruit and white bread. The gallo pinto was dry on our last day. Overall, Hotel La Palmera is very nice for budget travelers who want to have a real Costa Rican experience without the fancy touristy crap. PS. Beware of casados at sodas...the worst meals of the whole trip. Better to buy a rotisserie chicken at Mas X Menos Read more

Nothing too fancy but decent room. Comfortable beds. Staff is very friendly. Quiet at night. Really not close to the beach. If you were to walk it would sure take at least 15 min. We took the car. Pool is very nice and in great setting to the sun.

Jaco Beach was not a nice beach at all.but the surroundings were awesome, Playa Hermosa and Playa Punta Leona was unbeleivably beautiful! please rent cars while you are there, also, there is no bacon in costa rica. breakfast consisted of just rice and eggs which was fine but bacon is necessary. Close walking distance to everything in town. The owners very helpful. Not your 5 star property, but for the price I see nothing to complaine about. I would definately stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic location and property for a quiet stay in Jaco. If you are looking for a 5-star resort, you should not even be reading this. La Palmera was among the lowest-priced in Jaco and was impressively welcoming and comfortable. The pool is fantastic, set in a lush garden of palms and other local plants. Rooms are like little cabana suites spread out […] around the pool. The location is away from the noisy part of town, but just a 5-10 min walk to all the restaurants, shopping, and beach. There are bus stops literally around the corner, which was super-convenient for visiting nearby national parks and other beaches. Great for young couples, families, and students who do not require the instant gratification of being steps from the action, and who value quieter nights, trees & birds, and a sweet pool with outdoor showers. I have to admit, I was swayed by the deceivingly high guest rating this hotel had. The location isn't great...about a 15 minute walk to downtown Jaco. Wouldn't recommend walking it late at night. There was a constant stench of cigarette smoke and raw sewage coming in from the open window in our bathroom. It was the cheapest hotel in Jaco so I didn't expect much. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the pictures were exactly what you get and more. We were greated with a very warm smile. The room was so big and roomy. We found real flowers upon a towel that was shaped like a sailboat. Such a wonderful touch and greeting. The pool is six times bigger […] than the more expensive hotels in Jaco. The pool was nice and warm after a long hot walk from the other side of town. The breakfast that comes with your stay is the traditional Costa Rican black beans and rice with scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, fresh made bread, juice, milk and coffee. I've stayed here twice. The staff of 1 per shift at the desk is very friendly and helpful although not everyone speaks English. But that's ok with me - tests my limited Spanish and hand gestures. This was a budget hotel that was a good value for the money. It was family friendly, and there were lots of families staying there. Nice small hotel with a wonderful pool. Unfortunately google maps and hotels.com map puts it right next to the beach which is not where it was so I was a little disappointed when I got there. It is about a 20 minute walk to the beach or a 2 dollar cab ride.

This was our first hotel experience in Costa Rica. I'm a young 50-something traveling with my girlfriend. We didn't research this area (Jaco Beach) as much as we should have and we probably shouldn't have booked here. Jaco is like the Daytona Beach of Costa Rica. La Palmera is great if you are a couple in your 20-somethings, have no kids, wanna party […] in Jaco and just need a cheap hotel room to crash in and hang out by the pool. The rooms are small and very basic and could use some maintenance (paint, card locks vs keys, minor repairs, etc); beds are uncomfortable; lots of locals; and when we were there, there were several families with lots of little kids. A/C worked well; in-room fridge worked well too; TV not so much; the self-serve breakfast area is right IN the open-air lobby and was VERY good; pool is very nice with areas for kids and adults; none of the staff could speak much English. For us this was a perfect hotel, away from the main part of Jaco and only a short walk into town. The hotel is a bit dated but the rooms and surroundings are clean and there is the benefit of having a fridge in the room (there was a TV but we didn't turn that on).
