I expected the hotel to be a step above a US Comfort Inn. I planned this trip for business at the last minute. I was shocked to see the hotel was affordable, clean and has free internet. The free continental breakfast was also a nice surprise. I would book again.

We stayed at Watermark for 3 nights in Feb 2012. We booked a rather last-minute trip without doing a lot of research about the area, so weren't sure what to expect. Our jaws dropped as soon as we pulled up--the property is even more beautiful in person than the photos suggest. Our room (on the 3rd floor) was immaculate. The balconies are spacious and look right out onto the beach. The bed was comfortable and all the fixtures were new and modern. Also, a nice feature was the purified water dispenser. This is not a great place to stay if you want a lot of concierge service, as it's more of a condo than a hotel. There was always someone at the front desk to help, but they varied in knowledge of the area--for instance, when we arrived, we asked if there was a place nearby where we could grab lunch, and they just shrugged their shoulders (one of the hands-down best beach cafes in Cabarete is NEXT DOOR). I'd definitely return to Watermark!

this is not a hotel, so dont expect any service. you check in, get some remotes and get shown to your villa, then you are on your own. beds are ok, towels are numbered and only changed once per day, no soaps, shampoos or anything else. coffee maker is not an expresso maker.. thats the bad.. now, the good.. this is your very own private villa with your very own private pool, back yard and bbq. pretty good condition overall, and lots of security to keep you safe. very condusive to partying. probably not a family resort, but def a place for a bunch of guys to get away for a wknd..

Staying at the hotel was beyond my expectations. Everything over there (food, activities, staff,etc...) were outstanding. I left my cash all over the bed in the room and it was still there after they clean it.

We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. Our room was adequate, but the beds were very hard. Perfect if you love that, but an Ibuprofen before bed would make for a better sleep. The room was very clean.

I was really surprised about the hotel comfort: - Room: huge, always clean, with simple decoration but nice. - Food: Many options and each one tasty and fresh. Try the Asian Restaurant was my favorite, but the Grill is very good too. - Grounds and social areas: Always clean. - Beach: The best one in Playa Dorada, clean, not the white sands that you […] find in Punta Cana, but perfect for spend the day and just relax. - Pools: There are 3, 3 with music and games and the other one (my favorite) in Spa area, quiet with a small bar. - Cocktails and Alcohol: This is the only complaint, the use a generic brand for rum, liquor, vodka, etc., is ok but they can make a big difference changing to better brands. If you like a low price cheap hotel with average food, then this is for you. The surrounding areas are very 3rd world, so traveling outside on your own is not worth it. My wife speaks fluent Spanish so we did some traveling. The countryside and beaches outside of the resort are filthy. There is little worth doing or seeing, and everyone tries to rip […] you off. The maid and restaurant staff were very helpful and work hard. Beware of the staff that are trying to sell timeshares. They didn't leave us alone and would not take no for an answer. We are not the type to sit at the pool and we don't drink, which is a big draw for this place. So if you like to explore. pick a different country. We went all the way to Santa Domingo and it was the same every where we went. There are many better places in the Caribbean to go. This was the worse vacation I have been on. Read more

"Exellent getaway"
The BlueBay Villas Resort in Puerto Plata is one of the best in this resort area. We were very impressed with the grounds, our room, the restaurant and the private beach. It really had everything we wanted, quiet, private, clean, just a very pleasant stay for couples.

The Blue Bay villa was a nice hotel. I picked it due to its cheap price and I got my monies worth and than some. The food everyday was good and the service they provide was good. The one thing I did not like was the sales pitch they try to force you in. After taking a full day excursion i came back to the hotel only to be asked to join a one hour sales […] pitch. I'm not the resort type of person, especially in the DR, but I had a very good time at Blue Bay in Playa Dorado. I swore off Playa Dorado because of a bad experience at the Hotel Victoria, but Blue Bay was definitely a better experience. Clean, up keep of the property was good, the food and drinks were decent and plentiful. First time I gained weight […] while visiting the DR! The special seafood restaurant on the beach was disappointing. The service was great but the food was less than mediocre. My only problems were that you had to pay for wifi service, but it did not work in your room and the time share sellers! If I wanted to buy a time share then I'll find you but don't harass me and waste my time. My wife, she's dominican, and I actually left a day earlier than what I paid for, but this was not a reflection of our time at blue bay! I would return to this resort..... My husband and I were very happy with our stay and the beach on which the hotel is located. We were given a room in a quiet location with an intimate lounge seating, small pool and bar just steps outside the door. The gym and spa were also located there. The beach area is quite long and makes for a great walk on the beach. We did encounter difficulty […] getting a beach lounge chair on Saturday late morning (11ish) as they were all taken but the employee did try his best to accommodate us and actually did remember us later in the afternoon and pointed to several available lounge chairs when we returned to the beach. The employees are all very pleasant and willing to do whatever it takes to make your stay pleasant. Negatives-The room did not have a chest of drawers and clothing had to be placed on shelves. The bathroom counter space area is quite small. They charged $3 for use of the in-room safe, persistent employees scouting for customers to hear vacation/timeshare talks and not taking no for an answer, the bad smell as you crossed over the bridge to the beach. Having been to several all inclusives in the Dominican Republic, these negatives would not discourage us from returning as the beach and quiet is our main attraction. Read more

Very rarely does it match the pictures on the website, but the entrance was nice and the greeting was welcoming. Service is up to par. Rooms were nice and spacious. The grounds were kept well. We arrived very early and we were given a tour of the resort. The staff was friendly. Phone service was available which was great for a cheap price and internet service was also available which was a plus. The food was great. There was a bar next to the beach that was open 24 hours along with a snack buffet. The place was very quiet eventhough it had […] many guests. The entertainment was outstanding, different shows every night and I really had fun. The only problem with this place was, although it is a new resort, the rooms are very outdated. The bathroom is very small. The towels had bleach stains on them. Room service was not so great, that they forgot to change towels and the complimentary toiletries seem like have been passed around from room to room, rained on and have dust on them. It seemed like they didn't care about it either. There are no bottom cabinets or drawers like in any regular hotel. The price was good, but since it was a new resort I expected the rooms to be nicer. If you are going to stay in this resort, be prepared to deal with the vendors at the beach. Some of them are nice, but some are rude and obnoxious and wont leave until you buy something. If you want to dance, you can walk to the club that is right outside the hotel. I loved it. This is my 4th trip to D.R, and I would stay here again as long as they do something about that room service. Read more

"Aesthetically pleasing but the staff needs improvement."
We recently stayed and were very happy with the resort itself. The facility was beautiful, the pools, rooms, cabanas, eateries and bars were clean and they exceeded our expectations for the money we paid. The food was alright but again well worth the money. As for the staff I would say they brought the overall score down. The neglected to relay 2 messages […] that were left for us and finally after the third message sent someone to get us. Apparently they do not turn on the phones unless you request it. So they actually had to send somone with a hand written note to our room to relay the message. It wasn't super important but for the person trying to reach us it was very frustrating. Lastly a couple in the next room was having a domestic dispute at 4:45 AM and after 20 minutes the security guards did nothing to stop the smashing of glass and screaming. Finally I walked to the front desk and requested that they send more security because the dispute sounded very serious. The security guard then knocked and asked them to keep it down. After the guards left they started at it again and the guards never came back. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep that night. Overall the hotel/resort was worth the money and I would definately reccomend it and possibly visit again. Read more

I went for a one day stay since I had to go to an event and I have to say I was impressed by the way they keep the hotel. Everybody is very nice to you even if you are not a tourist. Check-in was a charm and I didn't even have to go to the reception counter. I was given my key and all my documentation in less than 5 minutes. Snack bars prepare fresh […] food at your request in the afternoon which I found really nice since most hotels I've been to just serve a bunch of stuff so you pick it up from the tray. Also, the brands they serve are much better than the ones I've seen at some other places. THe only thing I didn't like much were the main meals. I found that things weren't half as good as I expected. Buffet food was usually cold and some things I tried I couldn't even eat them. Maybe it was just my timing since I would go almost at the very end of the buffet but that was my experience. Other than that I would say this is a very nice and quiet place that I wish I had the time to enjoy a bit more. I would recommend to anyone looking to relax since this place is very very quiet. Måske er det fordi vi fik et værelse (for) tæt på rengøringspersonalets soverum, men det larmede ufatteligt mellem kl.20 og 23. Derudover var deres træningscenter overhovedet ikke i orden.
