Nice hotel . Great service . Overpriced Vallet charge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel I'm glad you enjoyed the hotel and our service. There are a few self parking options in the area. Our valet charge does include unlimited in and outs. Thanks, Mark
"Close to many attractions"
Enjoyed our stay, friendly, upbeat staff, valet service was efficient and friendly and the hotel is within walking distance of numerous restaurants ( ie.,Croce and Cafe 21), the bay and Petco Field. The Palomar's Saltbox restaurant was convenient, provided variety of choices, and friendly service. We would stay at the Palomar againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks CB. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the Palomar and San Diego. Try Sé Spa next time you visit. Hope to see you again soon. Mark
"Decent but too Much for parking"
Overall the hotel is a nice place. The staff was excellent. It's clean and neat. Parking is way over priced. The room was a little off. TV on the wall to the left on the bed. No ice machines. Surrounding areas provide plenty of food and drink. Probably wouldn't stay again. I think you can do better in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks WS. I am happy you enjoyed the hotel. There are several self parking options in the area. Our valet parking allows you to come and go as often as you would like. Hope you will give us another try. Mark

Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel Sorry it took 15 minutes for valet to get your car. We do have a text option if you return. You can text from your room or elsewhere so it is waiting for you when you come down. Thank you, Mark

"The best part is the location."
In the heart of downtown, this was a little gem. It's a clean hotel, the beds are comfortable, the pool was nice and warm, the staff was courteous as well. The downside is that it's still a bit pricey for what it is. But if you can get a good deal, it's not so bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks Suzy-Q. We appreciate the nice comments. Hope you can return soon. Sincerely, Mark
"Beautifully hotel located in a perfect location"
My husband and I went to San Diego for a week getaway and decided to stay here since it was in the Gaslamp District. First off, I would ONLY recommend this hotel to people who don't have to park their car or are ok with paying a ton of money to park. There was NO free parking. At all. Valet here is a whopping $38 a day! There is a parking garage directly […] across the street but its $28 a day. Well I shouldn't say a day because if you park your car there longer than a few hours you still have to pay $28 if you want to leave-even if you want to grab dinner and come right back. Ridiculous. It's next to impossible to find a spot on the street. Anyway, we stayed in the Skyview King suite and it was definitely a nice room. The couch was microfiber and there was some nasty stains on it though. I called the front desk and asked for a sheet to lay over it and they were up at our room literally less than 5 minutes later. Everything else was very clean and comfortable. The beds are definitely the softest beds I've ever slept in at a hotel (and I've been to many hotels). There was just a sliding glass door between the bedroom and bathroom, which was pretty and modern but it left a big gap where you can see right into the bathroom. Not a problem for couples, but you don't get much privacy if you are going to the bathroom. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was super friendly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location & very lovely! Great pool area too"
Enjoyed our stay there very much. Great hotel-great upgraded rooms-great happy hour!Genuine Expedia guest review
very trendy hotel in the middle of downtown- great location! Rooms are clean and staff is very friendly. Only downside is that parking is expensive, it is cheaper to park in the lot across the street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a great location in the gas lamp area so within walking distance to lots of shoppinh and dinning. Hotel staff were very friendly and I would definatly go back again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall great experience - friendly and helpful staff. The entrance was a little tricky to find due to the modern, heavy door. Bed was comfortable, lighting was a bit sparse in the hotel room. Bathroom had excellent lighting, very modern with frosted sliding door (not so much privacy) and standing rain shower (also without a door). Pool on roof deck […] was nice - able to reserve the space for private events as well. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Will be back. Loved the sleek decor. Loved that it was pooch friendly. Only issues were with the electronics in the room. TV ridiculous to figure out. Some of the lamps even gave us trouble. Great food in the area. Near perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Loved my room. Got the lowest cost king bed room and it was great. Fitness room was cramped and seemed like an afterthought rather than a well planned amenity as it should. You need a key card to use elevator. As a courtesy the front desk should let me know that rather than a less then obvious sign at elevators. Like that its in the gas lamp district […] and still stays quiet and calm in the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice place near gaslamp"
We checked in late the first night and missed the complementary wine tasting so they gave a voucher for the bar which was nice. The room was not cleanest...socks and paperwork left by the previous guests were in corners and behind furniture. For the price of this place I would expect the place to be spotless. We also did not get hand soap our initial […] night but were on a tight schedule so we failed to remember to complain. It showed up the second night, but still seems like the Palomar has an issue with there maid staff. There was also food left outside of our next door room for probably 30 hours. There was also street construction during our early April 2013 right in front of the hotel. Noise from this was not a big issue however. The valet handled it well despite the minimal space they had to work with. The Palomar is in a good location... easy access to the highway, and walking distance to night time destinations (rooftop bars, wine bars, food, etc). Despite the issues we had I would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very slick and relaxing"
Great stay. better service a the pool bar would have made this a perfect stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We are San Diego locals and came to the hotel for a mini getaway. The hotel is at a good location and has a cool bar. Most staff are friendly except one checkout clerk. We paid for an upgraded skyview room but the room we got is looking at the building next door. We were disappointed and when we mentioned it at checkout. She was pretty much talking […] down to us the whole time and very defensive about what a skyview room in a big city should be. The way she talked to us made us feel that we should be thankful to have the opportunity to stay at the hotel and our disappointment is purely due to our lack of knowledge of how things are in bg cities. We were going to make this hotel a routine stop bit she definitely changed our opinion about the hotel. With so many other cool hotels around, we will try our luck somewhere else next time. Great hotel for a weekend getaway. Very close to downtown and the zoo. Would be perfect in the summer with a great pool and bar area.Genuine Expedia guest review
""Gas lamp district ""
The location is great close to everything. Rooms are small but nice. The hotel does a poor job at providing handouts for all amities and location of things. We had no clue where anything was and had to constantly ask people. There is no ice machines on the floor you have to call and have it delivered.Genuine Expedia guest review
staff was rude, friend actually switched hotels our room was supposed to be a suite with an ocean view instead we got to look at the construction and an old building i wont ever stay here again....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I stayed at the Palomar during a convention and the hotel was in a fantastic location. The whole look of the hotel was very modern and sleek. I was not aware but the street outside the hotel was under construction (not the hotel's fault) but it was very loud and made it very challenging to get a taxi. Once that construction is done I will stay there […] again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Left happy once again"
Johnson, Astrid, Michael and the entire team one again made our stay easy and enjoyable. Even in the midst of some challenges with nearby construction, they treated us like guests in their home. We are frequent visitors in San Diego and always make Palomar our go to hotel. Service, cleanliness, food, and atmosphere are outstanding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The perfect stay!"
This was our first stay at a Kimpton hotel, but it will certainly not be our last! Everything about this hotel was perfect. Anything you could possibly want is walking distance, probably less than two blocks away. The staff is cool, friendly, and helpful. The room we booked (king suite) was amazing. Having two bathrooms is nice, even for just two people, […] and the bed was so comfortable we didn't want to get out of it. The big surprise was the HUGE balcony overlooking the pool and the city. We ate a few take-out meals on that balcony, enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. When we booked there was a reduced rate for the amount of time we were spending there, so it was a bargain, too. Street noise could be an issue to some, but we embraced it as part of the city experience and quickly got used to it. The hotel will supply you with ear plugs upon request. I suppose the higher level floors would be quieter, too (we were on 9th out of 22). We will definitely stay here any time we're in San Diego. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Perfect location. Very nice rooms. Would def stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Palomar is in a great location, however the hotel is a bit dated. The bathroom doors are sliding glass and don't even cover the entire door; no privacy what so ever. The refridgerator in our room didn't work either. I expressed that to the front desk at checkout and he noted it but we received no discount. "Leopard print robes? How can you say no?!"
Everything about the Palomar San Diego was exceptional. The staff was friendly and personable. The rooms were amazing (comfiest beds!!) and I can't stop raving about the animal print robes in the room. I read a few reviews from past guests complaining about the showers. Yeah, there's no curtain or door on the shower but there's a sliding door on the […] bathroom and it works just fine. I stayed with my best friend so this wasn't really a concern for me. I'm from a major city so the occasional crazy homeless person on the block doesn't phase me. REMEMBER: you're in a city, you're not in the 'burbs! The hotel is walking to distance to so many great restaurants and bars. We walked to Little Italy (15 min, 1 mi walk) and Hillcrest (20 min, 1.3 mi walk). There's also a bar/restaurant attached to the hotel, Saltbox. The bartenders were amazing and the food was exceptional. This is where I'm staying the next time I'm in San Diego! Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks Cha for the great review! We love animals and animal print robes! I also appreciate your comments on our location! Cheers, Mark Van Cooney
Staff was very pleasant. The only compliant I have is the parking fee. I've stayed in SD countless times and parking fee ranges from $20-$25, Palomar charges $38! That's a little excessiveGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Customer Service, Great Ambience"
There were a couple mishaps here and there, but they managed to make it up in every single way. We were given a credit when we did not get the room we asked for, and 4 complimentary drinks. We loved the wine at happy hour, and coffee in the lobby in the morning. Parking is expensive, and about 3 blocks away we were able to park for $30 for the whole […] weekend (compared to $38 per night). The pool was nice, but it was unfortunate the bar wasn't open in "the winter months". All in all we were very impressed with the customer service and cleanliness. Nice rooms and comfy beds too. "Good location, bad service"
Best thing about this hotel is its location, it is very close to Gaslamp quarter. Other than that, I am disappointed by the quality of service and how bad the rooms are maintained. First of all, nothing ruins a romantic getaway more than ending up in a double bed room even if asked for a single king size bed. As soon as I entered the room, I called […] the front desk but they said they were out of king size beds for that night. This shouldn't be acceptable for a hotel at this price range. Second, the reservoir in our room was constantly making a lot of noise. When I called the front desk, they sent someone )who seemed very upset by the fact that as a guest I had a problem that ended up ruining my night) upstairs who told me they can only fix it the next day. "Poor choice in San Diego"
Booked a room for Valentines Day 2 weeks in advance. Upon arrival they attempted to downgrade my room and the room I did get was poorly cleaned. Toilet was a mess, stains on furniture, windows filthy. Room service food was barely edible. Overall the experience was one I do not care to repeat.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Love Kimpton hotels!"
My visit was awesome! Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Dogs are always welcomed here and there is no additional charge. There is a free wine hour daily which is nice, also a complementary newspaper and coffee/tea in the lobby in the mornings. Rooms are supper nice and comfy, although some are a bit small. I would have liked a coffee maker in the room, but I understand it is "greener" to have it brewed in bulk. I didn't know though that coffee was available in the lobby until I went down there. I was a bit surprised about how many homeless people were in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great choice in downtown SD, with a few caveats"
Nicely appointed rooms and common areas. The staff is very welcoming - I particularly appreciated the watchful presence of the doormen and bell staff, because the downtown area is a bit sketchy at night. There were a few things in my room that didn't work properly: the shower head is a handheld spray with a wall mount that was comically low, and the […] phone in the room didn't work at all. I guess most guests rely on cell phones to call out, but how about getting your car brought up? wakeup call? Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Going to this hotel was a very pleasing experience. I fully took advantage of their happy hour, coffee/tea in the morning, along with the free fitness area, (even though it was a little small, 2 bikes, 4 treadmills, 2 elliptical). Their front desk, concierge and bell hops were VERY helpful in recommending places to go, whether it is someplace to eat, […] drink or just hang out. The pool is small, but great if you just want to lounge. Please note, they do allow pets. If I ever go back to San Diego, I would definitely stay there again! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks for the comments about our hotel, wine hour, coffee in the morning and our staff!!
Okay, the room's shower set up needs to be addressed as well as the door sealing off the bathroom from the main room. Also valet parking a bit outrageous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice ~ Hidden Auto Park Fee"
Overall nice. I have stayed here a couple times. Nice overall. I like Kimpton Hotels. You pay twenty-five each and every night to park/valet your car. I got hit for between to two to three hundred for blood on the sheets... a tad extreme. (I have stayed all over the world in the finest hotels and NEVER been charged for this before. Having said that […] ~ times have changed and risks must be mitigated I suppose.) PS I am staying there this New Year's weekend again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good: Service, Restaurant, Gym and Location"
I had a great stay. The hotel was very accommodating to our needs. The hotel restaurant's ("Saltbox") food was great and we did not feel the need to go out in the cold to get something to eat. But, the location was close to dozens of downtown restaurants. It was very comfortable to dine in the hotel and not step out in the rain. The gym is open 24 hours […] and it was equipped with the basics to get a good workout. Bottom line, we loved our stay, The Palomar is sleek and trendy but the staff and people are completely friendly and caring. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"comfy with artistic flair"
I stayed overnight. It's $28 to park overnight if you park your own car in the structure across the street...a bit more if you have the valet park it. The people at the front desk were super friendly and dogs are allowed (even encouraged). They had dog treats in a jar on the counter. The room was nice. The beds were as comfortable as they looked in […] the picture online. I wouldn't choose to stay here with someone else unless I knew them well enough to shower and use the restroom in front of them as the door to the restroom is frosted glass that slides closed and almost covers the whole door opening.
