Since the room does not have a fridge,they should at least have an ice maker esp. with the Singapore weather,everybody needs a cold drink....It was very hard to get a taxi.....

It was worth the price i paid for it but it was 15-20 minutes walk from the nearest train station. Had to transfer to a hotel in Chinatown the next day to be closer to the places that i would like to see.

I don't even think this hotel should be listed on hotels.com, there were street workers standing outside in the dark areas of the street where this hotel is located. It is clearly a hotel used for picking up girls off the street, as are all the other hotels on the street. This hotel was secure, however it is in the RED LIGHT District, the cab driver laughed when I told him where we were staying. I stayed in Singapore for 2 nights, and didn't want to spent too much for accommodation, so the only choice was the "red light district". It's not that bad really (but still not recommended for families). Most of them just stand there harmlessly. I went through a lot of reviews on hotel.com, and pretty much all the hotel reviews in this area are mixed. […] So I decided to spend one night each in Fragrance and 81. The condition of Sapphire is really good. Room & lobby appears to be very new, room is clean (but small, hey what do you expect for a value hotel in Asia). I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. If I do visit Singapore again, I will probably stay in Sapphire. Couple complaints I have for the hotel, water isn't very hot, and internet access is extra (that's also why I picked Hotel 81 for the 2nd night, as I wanted to go online). Read more

incredible value. room is very modern and clean. has flat screen tv. staff is friendly and to us, the neighberhood was fine ( those who tell you its in the red light district have no idea of what a typical red light district looks like...!). we would go there anytime again!

Nice hotel for the money. Well maintained hotel that isn't that old. Just outside the sites of interest, but it is only 5-10 minute walk to the subway train so they can be easily reached. Some might say the neighborhood isn't that great, but we felt completely comfortable walking thru it even at night.

Good location so that easy axis to every place on the bus or taxi. Worth for the money. Lots of shops in the nearby vicinity so that we could go out for food easily. Super market fruits market every thing near by. So this hotel is definitely recommended for families visiting Singapore.

We stayed here for 3 nights not knowing that this area was a red light district. Girls, don't be surprised if you only see men in that area. The room I stayed had no window and no fridge. For the price it's reasonable.

Stayed here for a 1 night stop over to Vietnam it was a ok room for just that reason. The guy at the front counter was rude and not helpful. We stayed in a Family room, the room was clean bed was a bit hard but after a long flight it was a bed. OK for a night stop over.

This was the nicest Fragrance hotel we have stayed in, but it is still nothing special. The room was very small but clean and functional. Our main issue was the plastic covering on the mattress which could not be removed, and the horrible, stiff, scratchy sheets; the combination made for a very uncomfortable night's sleep.

Nice and clean for a budget hotel although i hate plastic matress covers and only had one fitted sheet (no flat sheet). It was a bout a 10 min walk from the MRT station and conveniently amongst a lot of local eateries. Should also note it's adjacent to the red light district.

Stayed here twice for one night as a stopover at the beggining and end of our tour of Vietnam & Cambodia. Despite both rooms supposed to be Superior(and confirmed as such on enquiring at reception) the first room stay was much bigger than the room allocated second time around. Try to get a bigger room on check in, our first was the end room at the […] back, on the left hand side as you face the hotel. On arrival the second time we went to the room which absolutley stank of smoke. We changed rooms immediately. Location is fine enough if you're not bothered that its in a poorer area of the city. This also means that the many restaurants/bars are much cheaper though of course very basic. We ate both times in 2 different restaurants and the food was very good, especially the Thai only 3mins away. Its located in the red light area but although you are aware of the ladies of the night they are certainly not in your face, Didn't bother us at all, don't let it put you off. MRT is an easy walk about 12mins so easy to get around including the airport. On the second stay our room had not been cleaned too well. The were countless long brown hairs on the floor of both the bedroom and bathroom floor which was a bit off-putting. I'm blond and my chaps got very little on top so they wern't ours!!. Would have asked them to sweep them up but as we wern't there that long didn't bother. One of the receptionish wasn't very friendly and more interested in the food she was eating. Best facility:On the 1st stay the wide screen TV that came in very handy to watch Liverpool beat Newcatle 3nil live at 4am in the morning on the first stay. Worst facility: On the 2nd stay having to pay for WIFI. We had free wifi in all 11 other hotels on our trip. You had to pay for use here and it had to be a continous stint of either 2 hours or 10. The room was quite small for two persons and the view from window was so horrible that we kept the curtains closed for our whole visit. Bathroom was small too and you almost needed to sit in the toilet while you took a shower. The location was quite near to MRT station, only 12 minutes away by foot. We wanted a cheap hotel to stay for 5 nights during our 12 day tour to singapore. Having searched through lots of hotels we froze on Fragrance Sapphire in Lorong 10 in Geylang. We were skeptical at first as we had read that Geylang is a red light area and the caab driver reiterated it to us during our journey from airport to the hotel. There were no freebies.....no facility for laundry or a microwave to heat things up or order some tea or coffee.... But the hotel was in the heart of the local shops...if you enjoy eating local food, you would love this place.... It is extremely safe for people to go on the streets at night... You will see lot of people having a drink at the local joints but they will never bother you.... We enjoyed the place.... The nearest station is Kallang...but it is a decent 10-15 min walk from the hotel.... I chose to stay in this hotel because of the interesting location and fascinating night life. Singapore being a 'sanitised' society does not have much to offer in the seedy side. The Geylang area is sort of a 'red light' district but it is very tame compared to most countries plus most of the ladies of the night are confined to 'houses'. It is a safe […] area famous for late night eateries, fruit vendors, etc. - you can even get a hair cut here at 10pm! It is worth exploring this area on foot and will fascinate those who do like trying the frog leg porridge or the tortoise shell jelly.
