My husband and I stayed here overnight before a flight out of the Stansted International Airport early the next morning. The hotel and staff were fantastic, we would definitely stay again and recommend to friends. It is about a 10 minute, 13 pound taxi ride from the hotel to the airport, making it a great stopover location.

Great Hallingbury Manor is very charming and attractive. The rooms are modern and the bed is extremely comfortable. The shower is perhaps a bit too modern, with the water raining from the ceiling and no bathtub. The bar and restaurant was decent and the service people and front desk employees were very kind and helpful. My major complaint is the noise […] at night, at least in our room (24). The doors outside constantly open and slam closed, waking us fairly frequently. Very nice place with a damp, rabbits and birds. Very sympathic crew, good breakfast. Only problem is the planes landing very close and noisy, but stopping from midnight to 6am.

If you want something more than just a hotel room near the airport this is a beautiful traditional country inn setting with good food and drink. Rooms are very comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. But there is no escaping that you are very convenient to the Stansted airport as you hear the flights going overhead. Great hotel, cheap, lots of parking and a quiet area away from major roads. The only problem being that it's on the main flight path from Stanstead airport, so expect aircraft noise on a constant basis. A fantastic old building, service was excellent, beer good. breakfast good, my only complaint was the en-suite, no proper shower but there was a spa bath with a hand held shower head so all was not lost. If you want a hotel in the middle of now where this is ideal.

Stayed here overninght before flying out from Stanstead to avoid the morning queue on the M25. I was pleasantly suprised by the overall quality of the hotel. Value for money was excellent and only a short trip in the mornign to the airport parking

Lovely building .....from the outside! However, when you walk indoors it's very plasticky and not very attentive staff. The first bedroom they gave us smelt of drains or cabbage (very near the kitchens) so we were changed. Infact the smell stayed throughout the whole hotel. There are no carpets anywhere so you would expect it to be clean instead you […] felt as if you might stick to the floor. Beware when ordering a drink from the bar they try put 12.5% service charge on your bill. It's right on the flight path but we knew that and they do give you earplugs! Read more

We were not aware on booking that the bedroom we would be allocated was in the annexe, the other side of a busy road, whereas the restaurant and other facilities were in the main hotel. The receptionist was kind enough to transfer us to a room in the main building so our stay was considerably more pleasant than it would otherwise have been. I was put in a room across the road from the main hall so I had to drag my bags across a dark, country road late at night in the rain. Not a great introduction to the hotel. The room was small but clean, there was no wifi or wired internet access, the bed was on castors but the floor was wooden so it moved around. The TV was small and couldn't tilt/move […] so could only be watched from the bed (which kept moving!). When turned off the TV had a ridiculously bright standby light so I had to get out of bed to turn it off at the mains. The wardrobe was at knee height because the room was in the eves. My shirts touched the bottom of the wardrobe/room floor and got dusty, the bathroom didn't have a wall mirror - only a tiny mirror on a stick, the breakfast was poor - in terms of selection of food and service. Oh, and of course the hotel is directly under the stansted flight path and so there are huge engine roars from about 6am-10pm. It's OK but should be soooo much better. Read more

Great Hallingbury is a modern copy of a great hall, rather than an original. You get the benefits of modern technology; no draughts, level floors, proper plumbing and wiring, higher ceilings, but perhaps some lack of character. As a place to stay near Stansted though I found it very good. The staff were friendly and welcoming and everything worked.

Check-in was slow. Signage was poor: non-existent to reception and room. Room in a separate building on the other side of the road and along a bit with no pavement. External lights not switched on at the time and so difficult to see. Room was small but very nice although the toilet stopped working for a time. Hotel facilities was good, but restaurant was very bad, 1 hour and 20 minutters from order until served and it was only a sirloin steak with some few fried potatoes and 2 half tomatoes. The vicemanager told us it was because I ordered the steak made welldone. So if I had ordered medion done it maybe only take 10 minutes?

On arrival at the reception we were told our room was accross the road,some 100 yrds. Very dangerous crossing as dark comes earlier now. There is no light what's so ever! We enter that building through a side door and through a fire door that cept banging through the night into our room. First impression was that this room had recently been flooded. […] Water everywhere that made you uncomfortable to even step in there! After notifiing the receptionist we were told the cleaner had just passed the mob.it looked more of buckets of water thrown in there rather than passing the mob. Every 3-4 minutes a plain would fly over you so low causing a horifying noise. Therefore no sleep-rest. A very strong smell of drainage and having a shower all the water was coming out on the floor . Something that realy made me very angry was when we order a bottle of mineral water with our coffee , and we got tap water with a very strong taste of clorine! Cost of it? Only £2.95. I asked the water and I was told it is tap water filtered by the hotel. This is a no star hotel,let alone the 4 stars they want to claim! Read more

I arrived to a very competent but harassed receptionist with her boss in the background chewing out a supplier on the phone. She eventually closed the door after I commented. When I went to the room across the road, it was still as the last guest had left it, uncleaned. When I went back, I was ask to wait, but not offered a beverage of any kind while […] I sat waiting. As I had work to do, I got on with it in the bar and decided it must be ready an hour later, though nobody had told me. Despite being August, it was a very cold night and although the heating was on in the main hotel, it wasn't in the annex. I mentioned it as I left for dinner but clearly nothing was done. A wedding was on and the returning guests woke me at 12.00 going to bed, kids running around unsupervised, which was the only time that the planes were not flying directly overhead for stansted airport. Cheap room, but no price would take me back. How people can get married here is beyond me. Read more

Right under flight path - planes about 100m overhead starting at 6am every couple of minutes. Single pane windows, so extremely noisy (although they do offer earplugs)! Looks like they are installing additional internal windows in main building, but the accommodation on the other side of the road to the main building are lacking. Beautiful hotel with great proximity to Stansted airport. Obviously, being so close to the airport, planes fly over very regularly during the day, however, did not hear one during the night. Don't let that put you off, gorgeous hotel, fabulous amenities and staff. Would definitely stay hear again.

Lovely picturesque Hotel, the rooms and public areas are tastefully furnished ad spotlessly clean. Service in the dinning room in the evening was very slow, but this is the only complaint we made as the food , when it finally arrived was good. Overall a lovely Hotel. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Not a good first impression when we arrived as the receptionist admitted that a trainee member of the hotel staff had booked us into a twin rather that a double which had booked. We were not happy with her attitude or the rooms she offered us so we asked to see a manager & a lady called Samantha kindly upgraded us to a superior room at no extra charge. […] We were very impressed with the hotel restaurant food & again Samantha apologised for the problems we had encountered plus a gentleman called Daniel offered us a free drink on the house after our meal as an apology for the room mix up. Hotel was at the end of the runway. The windows catches were broken and did not close properly, there fore we had to have the heater on high all night to combat the cold winter air coming in, but could not do anything to block the noise of the airplanes landing and taking off. We had booked two rooms and one was so bad with the smell of damp we had […] to have it changed. You could see a line in the wood were the damp went up to! We had a nice meal and left a tip for the waitress, only to find the next day that we were charged over 10 percent for service charge. Before we went to our room we stopped at the bar to take a drink with us and were charged another lot of service charge. If the service is good I will leave a tip, but I object to it being taken without my permission. On the good side the towels were bath sheets and not the normal small bath towel that you can hardly get round you. Read more

Very nice hotel and room, but you'd expect this for the price. Was disappointed with my overall experience because I asked the receptionist if there was a computer for guest use and she simply said "we have wifi but no computers". I was en route home from a trip to Asia and didn't bring a portable mobile device because I wanted to be away from the office, […] and the staff made no attempt to help me access a computer to print off my train confirmation and flight boarding pass. The rooms were exceptional. The only downside was the hotel being right on the flight path for Stanstead, saying that it did not stop me sleeping or wake me up in the morning, but it is certainly noticeable.

The hotel itself is very nice. The only thing that lets it down is that the planes landing at stansted airport flying overhead......and I do mean overhead. Its obviously very noisey at these times but that is the only thing that lets the hotel down. hotel was clean and people very accommodating

Externally the hotel was beautiful and the reception staff were efficient enough. The room, however, left a lot to be desired. The wardrobe couldn't be used because it was too close to the main door closing mechanism and so couldn't be opened properly. There was a flat screen TV mounted on the wall at the end of the bed and it stuck out into the very […] narrow space so that you banged into it when walking around the bed. The window was very poorly fitted and didn't close properly. Staying for 3 nights in January, the Expedia rate offered excellent value. The Hotel has period character and attractive grounds. It is situated under a flight path which, with limited air traffic, did not cause discomfort. However it is possible that closer to summer it might do so and I felt that my bedroom could have been better sound proofed. I arrived very late in the evening for an early flight next morning, breakfast was not an option (but was a little pricey) I discovered later that my bed frame was broken which left me rather uncomfortable. We booked the Great Hallingbury Manor in favour of the many "flat pack" chain hotels in and around Stanstead Airport as we were attending a wedding nearby. Staff at the hotel upon check in exceeded expectations by willingly allowing us to check in ahead of normal time of 2pm. Jätte mysigt och fint hotel! Man måste vara beredd på högt buller från flygplan, men om man inte tycker det är så farligt så är det ett fantastiskt Hotel med jätte bra service. Ligger en bit från Stansted och smidigast är att ta taxi då det inte fins någon buss som stannar precis utanför och heller ingen transfer via hotelet.

Eigendlich sehr gut, leider war ich im Nebengebäude auf der anderen Straßenseite untergebracht was den nachteil hatte das ich mich immer zu den Mahlzeiten anziehen mußte da ich auch eine Straße überqueren mußte.Die Außenanlage wird gerade neu gestalltet und wird mal später sehr gut aussehen,Flughafennähe war kein lautes Problem wenn man Flughafennähe […] bucht.Leider war der Koch am Dienstag nicht gut gelaut und trotz der paar wenigen Gäste um 7.15Uhr mußte ich über eine 1/2 std auf mein englisches frühstück warten, aber ich würde es wieder buchen.
