"New hotel, very clean and very friendly service"

We arrived at our hotel early to dress for a special occasion. The receptionist was friendly and helped us find a room so we didn't have to dress in the bathroom! The room was very nice. My husband and I wanted to go to Monterey for the weekend and stay in Monterey but it was way too expensive, so we decided to stay at this Holiday Inn Express in Salinas. It was a 30 minute drive to Monterey but it was worth it. We were happy with the convenience of the freeway but disappointed in the cleanliness of the room, the condition of the exercise room and with the breakfast. There were hairs in the bathtub and only one of the three machines worked properly in the gym. The breakfast was very minimal. we stayed at this hotel for only one night, but the beds were so comfortable that we had wished we booked our hotelstay for longer. We stopped here on our tour on route 1 from LA to SF. For senior citizens, the trip from Socal to Sanfran can be a challenge since the drive culminates in evening rush hour traffic so my husband and i break our northbound segment at Salinas enabling us to drive in to the city in the morning. We are also able to dine at Gino's, a really fine Italian restaurant in Salinas. This hotel was actually better than expected! I had been told after booking room that Salinas area was gang ridden and not safe area. This hotel was conveniently located to US-101 and neighborhood did not feel dangerous. I still wouldn't recommend going out wondering after dark. During our stay, there were 3 shootings in two days in Salinas. They were […] not in the neighborhood of the hotel but still scary if you have business in Salinas area. Salinas is a nice place, but we found it far from Monteray Bay. We were tired and the traffic was heavy at 5h00. It was better in the morning. The pool was fantastic for the children after a long day. The washer/dryer was also an excellent idea after 6 travel's days !!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely comfortable room"
The room was lovely - very elegant and up-to-date. Did not use the pool but it looked very nice as well. Beds and linens were super comfortable and plentiful.
