In Thailand, the locals use 'Hi-So' (short for High Society) to describe someone or something that is really fancy. The Le Meridien in Chiang Mai is definitely Hi-So. Very nice. The room was super, with a window between the bathroom and the main room, so you can take in the outside view from the bathtub. Everything was very clean. The pool is on the […] fourth floor, and is one of those endless pool types, so it looks like you are swimming right up to the edge of the building. I don't think it is heated, but on a hot day (and I think they are all pretty hot in Thailand) the cool water feels great. The gym is also on the fourth floor, right next to the pool, and it has a good selection of weight machines, free weights, and treadmills/ellipticals/stationary bikes. The price is higher than many, but the experience was worth it. It was a particularly nice respite after spending a few nights roughing it in the jungle. :) Read more

Great Hotel! When you step off of the hotel property you are in the market. The room was very clean and new the shower had a regular head and rainfall head. Large Sofa area along the window. The hair dryer in the room was ridiculously cheap and impossible to use. The hotel design was pleasant and relaxing however the lobby is a bit cramped at peak […] times. The restaurant, bar and room service were very good. The SPG floor was secure, only accessible with your room key! The internet was free in the lobby but you had to ask for a small piece on paper with a password and username. The username and password should last an hour but we had lots of problems reconnecting after returning to the hotel. Internet is available in your room for a fee. This was disappointing after the two previous hotels having free and hassle free internet. The staff were very pleasant and helpful but we had to wait, most times. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were beautifully designed. We swam two of the three nights but it was a bit cool for a November evening. We found it odd that there were showers but no changing area. There were lockers in a common area outside of the men's and women's toilets but no private area to change in. You could change and shower in the washroom but you would have to leave your regular clothes on the washroom floor or sink which had no counter space. You could see the mountain and temple lights from the pool. Overall a great hotel. Read more

Very nice hotel with very clean and modern looking rooms. 2 bottles of water are provided each day during your stay. They have a very nice rooftop pool and a large gym with modern equipment. The hotel is located next to the night bazaar and night market. And it was very easy to find transportation in front of the hotel.

Spent two week in Thailand, of which 4 nights were spend at Le Meridien and it was the worst hotel of our trip. Rated as 5 star, but room was very tired looking, rug very dirty, and daily cleaning by hotel staff was not very thorough. We found items left from previous guests on our carpet, and the bathroom floors were very dirty with ground-in dirt […] that I was able to get up with a towel. There was only one bar of soap given for the bathroom, so if you used the shower or bath, you needed to remember to grab the bar of soap off of the sink. Also, soap wasn't replaced or added to daily, we didn't get a new bar until day 3 of our stay. The towels were super thin, small and old. They charge for internet access - the only hotel that charged us during our two weeks in Thailand. Additionally, their pricing for in-room dining, incidentals, etc... was much higher than any of the other resorts that we stayed at in Thailand Absolutely nothing felt local or special in the room. If you want some kind of Thai experience- go somewhere else. Hotel location is good, right in the heart of the Night Market, but other than that, overpriced, and not worth it! Read more

If want the cocoon of an upscale chain hotel, this place is for you. But for the Thai staff (efficient, but impersonal), once inside, you would never know you're in Thailand. The hotel has all of the Western luxury trappings along with New York prices for amenities such as spa and breakfast buffet. Those prices are ridiculous for Thailand. Having said this, hotel's location, across the street from the night markets and in the center of everything, is excellent. The infinity pool on the 4th pool is very beautiful, with a stunning west facing view of the city and surrounding mountains. While this hotel suits the tastes of those who want the same homogenous experience in any city, if you want the Thai experience, I suggest you stay at one of the luxury boutique hotels, of which there are quite a few in Chiang Mai. This is 15 minutes from the airport cost was 120bht. we stayed at the club tower and the service was excellent. Breakfast was free and plenty to choose from. We visited the oldest temples and a village where there women who wear the the rings on their necks to look beautiful. The night market starts at the le meridien and very interesting. We booked this hotel due to it's fantastic location. We were not disappointed. Anything and everything is a short walk or TukTuk ride away, the staff are very attentive and helped us a great deal. They spoke very good English and very knowledgeable, we organized an elephant trek with the concierge and it was a fantastic trip. There are only a couple […] of downsides... Everybody who see's you come out of there wants you in their taxi/TukTuk as they assume you have money, also there is no free WiFi in the hotel. This is disappointing as we brought the iPad to use for local info instead of a guide book, our mistake i know, but never the less, our hotel in Bangkok had free WiFi and it was no problem. I have very mixed views about this property. The airport pick up was good, but at reception they tried to fob us off with a room of lower category than I had booked, and had I not known the floor locations for the club rooms would possibly have got away with it. They finally "managed" to find a room on the 21st Club floor (as booked) although this was […] not listed as a no smoking floor which we had requested. Room was also relatively small by club standards. Have to say that finally, when I made it clear how upset I was by their service they did give me free wifi in my room (which I feel should have been included anyway). On the positive side the club staff were most friendly and efficient and helpful, although the actual facilities are not a patch on the Banyan Tree in Bangkok where we had stayed previously at a lower cost. However, the location is great and in easy walking distance of the Old Town and the Night Bazaar. Read more

Have a great experience. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was located just across from the night markets, with a MacDonalds, Burger King, Subway and Starbucks just around the corner. Lots of great local restaurants just a tuk tuk ride away as well.
