"Awful customer service!"
Long story short, awful costumer service. We were told once we were there that there were shared bathrooms, I offered to pay for the upgrade to have a private bathroom. My friend (who was paying) is from Canada, they do not have names on their debit cards, hasn't been a problem with the hotels in Vegas or San Diego but it was a problem here... the Desk […] Boy rudely told us to use their atm, the atm he must have known was broken... after informing him he said "oh well, you can find another one". We took our $200 elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"HATED IT!!!! THE WORST PLACE"
I SERIOUSLY HATED THIS PLACE, IT WASNT ANYTHING THAT WAS SHOWN OR ADVERTISED. THIS PLACE IS FILTY,CHILLY ROOMS,DIRTY BATHROOMS,NASTY SHOWERS AND LOW CLASS. "Nice Hotel with Cute Rooms"
I was nervous checking into a hotel that I never heard of before. But the experience was pleasing. The room was comfortable and to the point. It served its purpose and was easy on my wallet as well. "You get what you pay for, not even."
I didn't even end up actually staying the night because the staff member, Alberto was so rude and unhelpful. There were none of the few amenities in the room, it was dank and tiny, and when I asked for help, Alberto (who must have had a death in the family or something equally off-putting) told me that it was too bad and commenced to ignore me for 7 […] minutes while I attempted to get his attention. Then to add insult to injury, when I booked another room elsewhere, he had the audacity to try to contest the refund I asked for from expedia. Not only was this place a glorified Hostel, but it wasn't anything like the pictures suggested. Do yourself a favor and stay on Skid Row for a better experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Old Building in Noisy Downtown L.A. for Europeans"
The hotel provides no parking. I parked overnight next door for $15, and was told this was discounted $5 for the hotel. The lobby of the hotel is updated, and very attractive. There are a lot of common areas, and computers are available in the lobby. Two elevators provide a reasonable wait to get up the room. I heard no other guests speaking English. […] The hallways are narrow and funky. Many guests opt for rooms with shared bathrooms. This is very much like a European youth hostel. My room was tiny, with a tiny shower, but well equipped. It included an ironing board and iron, which I needed. The internet service was unusable; too slow. The TV was great. The shower takes several minutes to get hot. I thought there was no hot water and started to take a cold shower, but it did eventually get hot. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap were provided. The room was on an interior air shaft. There was some noise from the hallway from other hotel guests, but it wasn't too bad. The real noise comes from the air shaft when garbage trucks come to empty dumpsters in the alley, and from emergency vehicle sirens throughout the night. However, the bed was comfortable, and got a decent night's sleep. The included breakfast consisted of either cold cereal and milk or waffles, for which there was a long line. Coffee, good coffee, was obtained at a nearby cafe within walking distance. This was an affordable and adventurous place to stay, and if you are forgiving of rough edges then stay here. "Know what a Hostel is before you book here"
This hotel has a great location in downtown L.A. The neighborhood is a little rough, but expected from the city. Beautiful entrance to the hotel and amenities. The only thing that was not nice was anything upstairs of the lobby. Even the hallways looked uninviting. We went into our room and realized there was no bathroom or shower. We did not know that […] a hostel was a place where you share your bathroom and shower with the rest of the floor. Not used to that. Even the room that did have both together for private use were not comfortable at all. I'm just not used to that style of room, but if you are, I recommend it. If you want your privacy, than this is not for you. Please get rid of the freaky hand shaped chair and brighter lighting in the rooms please. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's transitional housing for the homeless . . ."
This hotel/hostel is one block away from the Skid Row housing authority and so it also appears to be used as transitional housing for the homeless. I stayed at a hostel in NYC that only allowed people with out of state IDs to stay there in order to prevent it from being used by the Homeless as a showering station but this place obviously doesn't care. […] I do hostels all the time but this was just a terrible attempt at re-branding a decaying building in downtown LA as a hostel in order to capture the cheap, no-frills travelers like myself. Putting polka dot sheets on a bed does not make a "warm and modern" hostel when you can hear people yelling at each other and dogs barking in the surrounding rooms. One of only two elevators broke while I was there, The breakfast consists of cereal & milk or waffles with syrup, that's it, so I wouldn't count on eating there when planning your budget. Add on $15 a day for roof parking on the building next door and then you have to walk through an alley to get back to the hotel entrance. Two keyed locks on my hotel door and two security latches, but a window that didn't close all the way. Take my advice and look for another cheap alternative to this one. Downtown was convenient but if I went back again I would look for a place on streets just west of Main street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"this is the worst hotel i've ever been to."
first off, the pics don't match the room we were going to stay in. it was disgusting. paint coming off the walls. so we decided not to stay the night. we told the person working there, we were not going to stay the night & would like a refund. the hotel employee said she wasn't allowed to issue refunds & i would have to talk to the manager through expedia. […] i then had the expedia rep call the hotel manager so i can get a refund. the hotel manager said he couldn't issue a refund because there were no notes of us complaining about the room. that night we specifacally told the employee working the desk that the reason we weren't staying was because the room was disgusting. the employee should've noted the account. now we got charged for a room that we didn't even stay at. avoid at all cost. it was a terrible experience. "The rooms are very old, small and seems dirty."
First of all, the hotel does not come with parking nor has their own parking area. We had to paid a nearby parking garage for parking. The room is very small and seems dirty. I got the room with own bath/shower otherwise, some other rooms will required the guest to shared a public hotel bathroom or shower room. This reminds me of my college dorm. Anyhow, […] there were pipes running around the wall and the bathroom. A portable fan was in the room with some kind of old style water/radiator type of heater running on the lower part of the wall. The bed was not comfortable for me, I was up until 2 in the morning before I could fall asleep and was awaked at 6 am. The breakfast was very basic, waffle and juice/coffee. Not much choice. Bottom line is, I will would recommend this hotel to anyone unless if there is no other option. I paid $100/night on a Wednesday night. I could have done it better else where. "An "LA" Hotel!"
The quintessential LA experience. Beautiful lobby disguises tiny, hostel-esque rooms... That are cute as can be! Everything is cozy in this place, but it is a good kind of cozy. I have stayed here before, and have always found it to be what i think of LA on the whole, reflected in a hotel. Quite nice for the price! Couple of things: 1. The internet […] is spotty (i think probably due to so much stone), so if you need to do some work get a floor near a router... 1st and 6th floors. 2. No AC. Look around the room for fans, turn off heater, open a window (even if its noisy! its LA!). 3. Don't fear the shared showers/toilets. They are plentiful on every floor and kept clean. 4. On street parking is a nightmare, if you have a car garage it (unless you are on point with city signs and know what you are doing, tickets aint cheap here). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Really good location for the amount of money it costs. Rooms are functional and clean but have a really weird scent. I booked this room through hotels.com , room was already paid for , went to check in and was notified I needed a credit card for a 50$ deposit in case other charges were added, for some reason my card was not going through, I asked if I was able to leave a cash deposit instead , they told me NO , it's not within their policy . I asked […] to please speak with the manager , they would not allow me to saying it was their policy and there was nothing he could do about it , I was then instructed to step aside while they helped other customers ..... I began to tear up , because I was from out of town and my room was paid for, but was not allowed to check in , no refunds as well ..... Customer service was so RUDE and treated me like trash , I was then asked to leave by security because I was not a guest , also there is no parking I had to pay 20$ for overnight parking , needless to say I ended up sleeping in my car outside in the cold and rain , and cried myself to sleep and lost out on a non refundable 120$........ "Stay away from this place"
Pics on the website are not accurate. The hotel is located in a very sketchy area of L.A. Walking around freely after 6 or 7 p.m. is not an option. Rooms have no A/C. Mattresses are old and uncomfortable. The floor was sticky and smelled like peroxide. Sink was located out in the bedroom, right by the closet. I walked in and out the premises and not […] a single staff member asked me who I was or where I was going. Not safe at all. I have stayed at hotels in the same area, closer to Walt Disney Hall (I visit L.A. to attend L.A. Phil's season concerts), which were much better than Stay on Main and were actually cheaper. Overall, I fell I was staying at a prison cell. Terrible hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"This place is a DUMP!!!"
I don’t know where to begin. To set the record straight, I was not expecting the Ritz Carlton. My wife and I planned a last minute trip to California to visit with family and friends. It was Valentine’s Day weekend, so we knew all the rates would be inflated. We were just looking for a place to sleep for a couple of hours as we would be hanging out […] during the day. We were looking online and found The Hotel Stay on Main. The pictures showed an IKEA furniture type setting, which we were fine with. The reviews said the hotel was a hidden gem, but that was not the case! So, we ended up booking the hotel on Saturday morning for Sunday check in/Monday Check out. On Sunday, we called the hotel at about 1pm to see if we could get an early check in. The staff was very rude on the phone and acted as if they didn’t want to be bothered. Our request was denied. We arrived at the hotel a little after 2pm. Just to check things out. The website states there is parking nearby, yes there is about 3 metered spots and a suspect parking lot next door to the hotel that charges $15 a day. .. will not allow any more characters. "Some notes for your stay"
Simple neutral notes for other guest who are thinking of staying. Entrance is on Main St., not on 7th. Car Parking: There is no onsite parking available for those who drive, there is a private parking lot next door that will close during the night. There are also other parking lot further away, but just keep in mind that parking spot is your own responsibility. Shower […] room and Toilets are unisex and are share among hotel guests. No faucet or sink in the toilet room, use your own sink back in your own room. Windows can be opened but lots of siren and street noises. I can sleep with these noises perfectly fine, but some may not be able to. In room amenities: Individual sink, TV with remote, Ceiling fan with a relatively dim light, you won't be able to read in the room at night. The room's self-closing door is on the heavy side, you would hear other people's door opening and closing. It is in a down town area, there are shops around the neighborhood, but they close at night, I didn't see any convenient store that opens 24/7 around. So better get your shopping down before these shops close. (such as water and snacks) There are two vending machines in the lobby, however, so bring change and dollar bills. There is breakfast at the mezzanine in the morning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
