The room was like an ungraded jail cell for loss of better words I did not feel comfortable staying there there were no pictures on the wall and it was false advertisement because the picture looked nothing like the roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's okay .."
When I got to the room I was expecting it to be bigger rooms and a bathroom but you have to share a bed room with somebody which isn't cool.. I didn't enjoy the stayGenuine Expedia guest review
"Stay away from this place"
Pics on the website are not accurate. The hotel is located in a very sketchy area of L.A. Walking around freely after 6 or 7 p.m. is not an option. Rooms have no A/C. Mattresses are old and uncomfortable. The floor was sticky and smelled like peroxide. Sink was located out in the bedroom, right by the closet. I walked in and out the premises and not […] a single staff member asked me who I was or where I was going. Not safe at all. I have stayed at hotels in the same area, closer to Walt Disney Hall (I visit L.A. to attend L.A. Phil's season concerts), which were much better than Stay on Main and were actually cheaper. Overall, I fell I was staying at a prison cell. Terrible hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"This place is a DUMP!!!"
I don’t know where to begin. To set the record straight, I was not expecting the Ritz Carlton. My wife and I planned a last minute trip to California to visit with family and friends. It was Valentine’s Day weekend, so we knew all the rates would be inflated. We were just looking for a place to sleep for a couple of hours as we would be hanging out […] during the day. We were looking online and found The Hotel Stay on Main. The pictures showed an IKEA furniture type setting, which we were fine with. The reviews said the hotel was a hidden gem, but that was not the case! So, we ended up booking the hotel on Saturday morning for Sunday check in/Monday Check out. On Sunday, we called the hotel at about 1pm to see if we could get an early check in. The staff was very rude on the phone and acted as if they didn’t want to be bothered. Our request was denied. We arrived at the hotel a little after 2pm. Just to check things out. The website states there is parking nearby, yes there is about 3 metered spots and a suspect parking lot next door to the hotel that charges $15 a day. .. will not allow any more characters. "Some notes for your stay"
Simple neutral notes for other guest who are thinking of staying. Entrance is on Main St., not on 7th. Car Parking: There is no onsite parking available for those who drive, there is a private parking lot next door that will close during the night. There are also other parking lot further away, but just keep in mind that parking spot is your own responsibility. Shower […] room and Toilets are unisex and are share among hotel guests. No faucet or sink in the toilet room, use your own sink back in your own room. Windows can be opened but lots of siren and street noises. I can sleep with these noises perfectly fine, but some may not be able to. In room amenities: Individual sink, TV with remote, Ceiling fan with a relatively dim light, you won't be able to read in the room at night. The room's self-closing door is on the heavy side, you would hear other people's door opening and closing. It is in a down town area, there are shops around the neighborhood, but they close at night, I didn't see any convenient store that opens 24/7 around. So better get your shopping down before these shops close. (such as water and snacks) There are two vending machines in the lobby, however, so bring change and dollar bills. There is breakfast at the mezzanine in the morning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Very disappointing not a great hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Rooms are trash"
Service is good. Lobby looks really nice. But the rooms are hideous. I had a personal bathroom room. The floors were sticky. Rooms are small. No bathtub. Sink in the room. But it comes with a ceiling fan which is cool.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for traveling on a budget"
This hotel/hostel is super cute and great for traveling when you really don't need/want to spend a lot for your lodging. A lot of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Biggest con no reserved parking, we paid $20 for over night parking but you can only leave once BUT everything is walking distance.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good for a one night stay"
The place was nice, but no AC in the room so it was stuffy unless you leave the window open all night. Also, my room was next to the community restroom and shower so it was very noisy with doors slamming at all hours of the night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The lobby looks really nice. The room is small but clean. Nice location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I just had a bad experience. Loud noise coming from the pipes in first room. Second room felt like a hot sauna. Third room was no different. So, i went back to the first room at 430 am and dealt with the noise. By the way i woke up at 6 am to attend my meeting. One positive is that rooms are clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay on a budget"
I had a turn-around trip for work, and didn't want to spend a lot of money, but still have a quality stay. Stay On Main offers both a hip and well appointed space plus affordable rates in the Downtown LA area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It does not say anything about a community bathroom setup or a shower for starters. There was a pole in the middle of the room for some reason unbeknownst to us. The hotel had a TV tray type area for writing. One small bird bath area to brush teeth, and a Red chair that was literally a hand. The room was for child and adult. I did not feel secure with […] child there. The hotel was in the middle of the tenderloin. There was no parking garage for the hotel. The parking area that hotel guests had used previously used security guard indicated cars were broken into. The nearest secure parking garage was nearly 3 blocks away from hotel. "This is where to stay if you want a cheap hotel."
Since most of the reviews were negative I had no hopes other than a bed to crash in. This is a budget hotel. Most importantly, know that you will likely share bathroom/shower facilities unless you pay for a room, as I did, with those in the room. Area: The area is neither prime nor slum. You will run across beggars. However, even late at night bars […] are open and a taco truck serving food. Clubs and restaurants are a few blocks away. A Starbucks is a block away. It isn't a horrid area....it is simply a discount hotel area rather than luxury area. Be with a friend out at night and know where you are going, but I wasn't afraid of any likely crime. The rooms are cheap. Don't expect much. The pictures may be of the best rooms. But they seemed sanitary. Your fellow travelers are a lot of European and world students and budget travelers. They have breakfast of waffles or cereal. Bottom line, if you want to stay cheap in LA, go. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice affordable hotel"
To be honest I didn't know what to expect from what I had read on previous reviews. The room was nice and clean, the staff was very nice and overall it's very cheap, I would say to get the room with it's own bathroom, but other then that it was a great place to stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, in my entire life. The Service was awful, I changed my room three times, one smells like old cigarettes & crack smoke, the other smelled like bengay or some or sort of rubbing alcohol. It was disgusting. The carpet was filthy in every room. Most of the rooms have a water pipe that runs through then and […] makes the room absolutely bearable. I WILL NEVER, EVER, STAY THERE AGAIN. "The price is right"
Very nice for a hostel. Room was small but clean. Bathrooms were down the hall and not so clean, but then again what do you expect for the price and for shared restrooms. Would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
The lobby was nice. Once we got to the room it was small. Left it could have been a lot cleaner. The sink in the shower was kinda of weird. But overall, it wasn't that bad. Like I said you get what you pay for.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent place, interesting decor"
I wasn't really sure where I was, paid a little more than what my room offered. It seemed more like a youth hostel than it did a hotel. They did have a decent continental breakfast, but they had synthetic maple syrup. gross.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Everything was nice except the beds"
The beds were very uncomfortable and too much noise from outside but everything else was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for someone with a tight budget"
It was a last minute booking. Given the price, I would say my overall experience was okay and I slept well. Room is tiny. I was surprised there was no bathroom in my room, and had to use the public bathroom and shower, which are very tiny too. I should have paid more attention to the details when booking. I travel to LA once a week or every other week […] in the past two years. Homeless people around downtown are still scary. Again, for this price, I cannot complain. Would recommend to someone with a tight budget. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The places was filthy amd the service was terrible. The area around it is crowded with homeless people. Its good for the price. But id rather pay the extra $50 to avoid the downtown area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay budget hotel"
Basic, clean, central to downtown. A tourist might prefer Santa Monica or Venice beaches. Formerly the Hotel Cecil, which I personally preferred (I liked the old retro feel more than the new hip bright orange look). In a gentrifying neighborhood: a mix of young foodies and down-and-outs sleeping in doorways.... but it IS downtown in a big city; what […] do you expect? Prices have gone up quite a bit for a bathroom-down-the-hall hotel, but it's still a deal. The breakfast includes hot waffles, which is nice, but PLEASE: give us REAL orange juice, not high fructose corn syrup citrus punch!! Also, early check-in would be nice; why make a client sit around until 2 or 3 PM when you have clean, empty rooms upstairs? Wifiand computers in lobby and Wifi in lounges on some floors; not in rooms. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Worst hotel ever. In the history of hotels no parking sirens all night noisy stinky small rooms shared bathrooms n showers one per whole floor its a dumpGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I do not recommended"
I will not be coming back to this hotel ever again. Overall a bad experience. The personnel is nice but everything else was terrible. I booked the hotel in a hurry and did not realized that I had paid for a room with a shared bathroom. I paid extra for flip flops which broke immediately. I also had to pay $15 extra for parking next door. At the end […] for that price I could have stayed somewhere else, some where with at least a private bathroom . The location is not nice at all. I arrived late and it was full of homeless everywhere. Also the hotel is TERRIBLY loud and my bed was very uncomfortable. There was a machine outside my door that would beep every minute. I was not able to sleep much at all. I asked the front desk to give me a wake up call at 8am twice. They did not call me to wake me up. Thank god I woke up at 7:58am and turned on the tv (there is no clock in the room) ALSO NO IPOD DOCK STATION like they said... (my phone died and I couldn't charge it). The description is so deceiving!! The pictures are even more deceiving! Small room, no bathroom... I'm a grown woman and I should've known my $72 hotel in LA did not come with a bathroom or shower. Even the shared bathrooms that were right down the hallway, yu had to step over the toilet in order to close the door and not to mention the shower that […] only comes with a rack and curtain, make sure yu bring ur shower shoes!! All in all, horrible. I'd rather stay at a motel 6 oreven a half hour away! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Waste of my money"
I would never stay here again. The rooms are horrible, bathrooms are horrible. THIS IS NOT A HOTEL!!! I wasted my money for nothing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Planned to go to the Peoples Choice awards but never booked a hotel. Decided to be adventurous and stay in a hostel type hotel. It was surprisingly more pleasant than I expected. Cute place with activities, breakfast and helpful staff. Outside noise is quite loud and constant at night, but expected from such an antique building. Only $6 taxi to Staples […] Center/ Nokia LA Live. Good deal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location in North LA."
This hotel worked out great since we were there for the BCS National Champtionship game as well as to visit with family. The room was very satisfactory for providing a convenient place to get a good night's sleep. The location was convenient to Union Station and several good late night restaurants. The area was safe to walk around in and we never felt […] uncomfortable. Would stay again without reservation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"OK place to crash"
Stay on Main was an OK place to crash in LA for a couple nights on the cheap. Not having a toilet or shower in our room was a surprise... Must have missed that in the description. Walking down the hall to use the toilet or shower felt reminiscent of the college dorm experience. Amenities in the room were minimal. Friendly and helpful staff!Genuine Expedia guest review
Perfect price & location for people who are watching their wallets, & still get the same services.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is fine if you like small rooms, communal toilets and communal showers.Genuine Expedia guest review
it is a disgusting hotel. the restroom and shower are like dorms and have to share with the other guest . the room smelled like cigarettes even though I had paid for a non smoking room. very disgusting hotel .Genuine Expedia guest review

"That wasn't the "L.A" I wanted to see"
Hotel lobby was nice and friendly but rooms were so small, beds were not comfortable enough and the isles were narrow and dirty-looking. There was a fire station near us and I woke up at least 10 times each night because of their sirens. Breakfast was good. It was in the center of downtown L.A. near L.A. live but that was not the thing I was looking […] for. Soon I realized that the must-see sights are all near the ocean. It took me more thant an hour every day to take a bus or metro to West coast, hollywood, santa monica etc. In general, it was kinda fair for the price. One thing to remember is that the neighborhood is not good at nights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Terrible hotel without parking"
This hotel doesn't have a free parking and you can't park in the street.you should park in public parking which is 5.00$ per hour.also in winter their room doesn't have a heater.you should use more blankets for warm up.Genuine Expedia guest review
Between the multiple guests living in their own time zones and the constant sirens at night I didn't sleep well here. The pillows were like concrete. A couple of the bathrooms down the hall didn't have working locks. The room wasn't clean, but it wasn't filthy. The TV turned on by itself. Every day I came back to the hotel it was on. It would come on […] at 3 in the morning, but I was awake anyway because the crazy permanent tenants downstairs talk out their windows and the people from the other side of the world think it's daytime when it's night. Unfortunately it seemed to be the only reasonably priced place in downtown L.A. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Ok. Different from any other hotel I've ever stayed in.Genuine Expedia guest review
I have to admit... We were nervous to stay here based on other reviews. If you know what it is going into it - an economical/no frills/ step above a hostel/ place to lay your head you'll enjoy this place. It's convenient and clean enough. The price is right. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a place to crash after partying at LA exchange.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
