There was no air conditioning, the fitness center wasn't open and they charged my entire stay upon arrival when I specifically asked & requested I pay at check out. To top it off I was contacted from Super Shuttle (hotel's recommendation) after making reservation for pickup & told they couldn't pick me up & ask me to walk 6 blocks for pickup. I'm not […] familiar with area so I went too far. When the driver (Isaac) finally picked me up I was drenched from walking & hauling my suitcase. He was rude, drove like a maniac & then insinuated he wanted a tip of all things. It's a good thing I'm strong & fit but made me wonder how it'd of gone if I wasn't. It wasn't safe & the hotel didn't try to help me. I will never stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"No so bad"
Bad breakfast, dirty shared toilets, but overall it wasn't that bad. Loved the location - very central to everything!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I spent a night at this hotel. Although its staff was really nice, facilities were not very good. The street in front of the hotel was noisy all the night and what was worse, you might hear the sound of voices outside your room. If you want to get a good sleep, I won't recommend Stay on Main; however, if you want a place to take a short nap, it is […] acceptable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice location and place if you are in a budget"
The hotel doesn't have air, the restroom and showers are outside of the room and you have to share with the entire floor. It sounds terrible but the weather in LA is so nice that you don't even need air, also I would highly recommend if you are college student or someone on a budget. It's like living on a dorm room. Everything is close to the hotel […] so there is no need to have a car. The location might seem sketch at the beginning but the hotel has security. I would recommend it, if you are just looking for a place to sleep! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Don't recommend you staying in this hotel"
This hotel is horrible. The rooms are pretty small and stinky with only a sink. You have to share the bathroom.and shower with the whole level you are in. Also the bathrooms and showers are not clean. Horrible horrible experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"near downtown, convenient, clean"
Just to verify, this is a HOSTEL, not a hotel. Hostels are a place for travelers to stay for cheap and they are usually designed for socializing with other travelers staying at the same hostel. My boyfriend and I stayed here to go to an event at the LA Historic State Park. We were able to walk to a bus stop and ride the bus all the way to the event […] without a problem, so if location is important to you, this is the place to stay. We got our own bathroom, but the shared shower was conveniently right outside our bedroom door. The rooms and showers were clean. I loved that there was access to sit by the fire escape since it feels very city like! There are shared rooms at every floor where you can hang out and play foosball. There is also a popcorn social everyday at 4PM which we were not able to partake in since our event started earlier. My only gripe about this place is that there is no parking. You have to pay every day to leave your car parked overnight at the public parking area near the hostel. But parking is always expensive in downtown cities. Overall, we will definitely stay at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Main Street experience"
The stay was great, but I chose the room without a bathroom in it. That's ok if you bring your thongs and your own towel, both I didn't have, but the hand towel had to do. Overall well worth the price & the simple clean room and coffee/cereal in the morning. Convenient that the Stay Main is next to and part of the Cecil hotel and amenities.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Funky! Like it or not."
I think this place is funky. It has a different vibe to its that hip and yet at the same time discomforting. I think that the shared bathrooms was a big disappointment. It just felt like the rooms were incomplete. On the other hand I think that this place is an awesome place for couples who want a cheap place to go to and make up for lost time together […] Looks upscale to a certain degree especially inside yet has some funkyness to it at the same time. Its all over the place which is awesome if you come into it looking to be adventurous, are young, or just like funky art and good views of downtown la. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Experience at Stay on Main."
I would rate it as fair. First, we got lost in downtown LA finding this motel because the sign outside is not very clear. It would only show "Stay", thus, we kept driving around downtown LA as it was really hard to see it. The room did not have an a/c, just a ceiling fan to keep room ventilated. Also, there is no toilet inside the room which is inconvenient. […] The room does not have wifi access too. On a positive note, the complimentary breakfast was good - cereals, pancakes, milk, coffee, etc. The rooms are clean and good enough for someone who is transient. I was definitely comfortable with my room, but the restroom and shower were not convenient or comfortable. I did not like the closeness or lack of cleanliness, since the restroom and shower are shared. I definitely liked the continental breakfast, but if you're picky about your restroom and where you shower, then this is probably not the place for you […] unless you want to compromise. "Right area, wrong hotel"
We needed a place to stay when we decided on a whim to attend National Dance Day at Grand Park and go to the Gala that evening. The hotel room was hot (and we are from Tucson, Arizona) with no a/c. The window opened and we left it opened all night but the noise from the street was really loud. The shared bathroom thing was new to us and we decided to […] forgo the shower... When we did the reservation over the phone we checked the pictures on the computer and it looked nice and clean. Once we arrived, the neighborhood was scary, the service was not that great. "Pretty good for the price."
We stayed for three nights and toured around LA for the weekend. The hotel had a fun atmosphere. There were lots of people under the age of 30. The hotel was good for the money; not fancy but still good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

hey, you get what you pay for, and i was happy to pay for. just had an argument with my girlfriend, she kicked me out, and i had a nice time in my own room at "stay on main". happy it was inexpensive, but with valley parking it still came out less then 100$. "STAY FAR AWAY- dont even think about it!"
Horrible experience- This hotel is actually the cecil hotel, next door. you cant enter at the "STAY". NO parking unless you pay twenty, better used to pay somewhere else. Once you pay your twenty, you cant leave at all.Bathrooms are all shared- bathrooms down the hall, no sink in toilet rooms at all ( dirty door knobs, dirty keys, etc. ) small little […] tiny sink in room. Showers are in separate rooms also. no place to hang clothes, or towels. terribly long and rude checkin. aprox ten minutes each person. bad part of town. dirty scary halls. slowest elevators ive ever been in, wait wait wait.check out news story February 23 this year. don't even consider STAY on main OR CECIL hotel if you want whats best. dirty scary rude, disgusting. "Not so great."
The hotel itself is actually attached to the cecil hotel which i thought was odd. The surrounding neighborhood was HORRID, I heard gunshots within minutes of stepping outside, there are so many homeless people you literally have to step OVER them. I was there for the convention center, which was a mile away, and I was afraid for my life every time I […] had to walk. Next time I will pay the extra money to get something closer and in a safer environment. Plus, 100 dollars a night for a hostel that doesn't have a bathroom OR air conditioning is outrageous. I wouldn't have paid more than 30 bucks a night. I won't be returning because of my comfort level, but overall it wasn't bad. It would have been better in the winter months, it was way too hot to not have an air conditioner. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The guy at the desk really slow and we were in line for hours plus the guy didn't get my last name and he make go to my car to get the info (walk 2 blocks because the hotel doesn't have parking […] and I had to pay for it) then when I came back I had to wait in line again??? Awful felt like I was staying in a closet. Just Nasty!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Walked in to the lobby it was nice and cold. When we went to look at the room it was a small little room with one bed and they had no air. When I asked if they had air the answer was no. How do you have air in the lobby but not in the rooms. I will never stay at this hotel never in life. I went to a different hotel with air that was the same price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My overall stay was horrible. The staff were all extremely rude and unprofessional. None of the rooms have air conditioning and the bathroom didn't have a private shower. Not to mention the loudness of the city from the rooms and the slaming of the doors by the guests. This hotel was old with nothing but new paint and cheap furniture.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bad place but great people"
The customer service was EXCELLENT but the rooms were extremely small. I had a room without a bathroom and had to shower outside in the hall but I'll be more careful when I book next time. I complained and was moved to a nicer room. The employees were great !! Continental breakfast wasn't much of a choice in comparison to continental breakfasts.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
As an architect the Stay had such promise with its advertising images but failed to deliver. This hotel is old with a fresh coat of paint. It still is obivous how damaged and old it is. The room in Los Angeles had no air-conditioning, the breakfast buffet had no fruits or healthy choices and was even missing decaf coffee. One amenity we value is a workout […] center and it was under renovation yet they had no other relationship with a gym to substitute. Location is busy area and rooms do not insulate you from the noise at all. I would never recommend this to any friends. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel is very old and simple, but clean with new paint, no desk no chairs in room, no air conditioning in room, but with a ceiling fan. our room has a simple queen mattress set without bed frame, with in-room bath and toilet. Other rooms share public shower and toilet. we paid $85/night. at checkout, there were other charges close to $15/day which was […] not disclosed when booking (at least I didn't see it when booking). Also, there is no parking for guests. we had to pay $15/day for 4 days with in and out. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is willing to pay $115/day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "The Usual 'You Get What You Pay For" Stay"
We were traveling through LA and needed a place to rest before continuing on the next day so I searched for a place nearby. They did a good job with the bright, trendy coloring but the room itself was a little sketchy at best. There were exposed pipes going through the room, our bathroom (we paid extra so as not to share a bathroom) was not the cleanest […] and I felt compelled to wear my flip flops in the shower. The bed was not very comfortable either. We did eat at the free breakfast in the morning but, besides the fresh waffles, was unimpressive--no eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. There's no air conditioning but the windows open. The only problem with that was the amount of noise from the street, which disturbed our sleep. Overall, our stay was OK, not great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great for convention center"
I booked a private room with bath for five nights. Room was compact, clean, and modern. Had a ceiling fan and with the window open was plenty comfortable at night. Downtown LA seemed fairly noisy until around 2am though. Walking distance to LACC and many restaurants. I only took advantage of the metro once (to Santa Monica) but seems very convenient […] for many lines. Neighborhood was fine for being downtown in a major city. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"I was sucked about that shared restroom and shower"
It looks like a sub-hotel at the side of a building, but the first appearence was nice. They don't allow people to go out at night, maybe it's because of the safety reason. Things which made me a headache is that shared restroom. I won't be able to turn around If I'm a little bit fatter. Someone was smoking in the bathroom at the time when I moved in. "The hotel is cheap, but not cheap enough..."
The hotel is cheap, but not cheap enough for its quality. We actually abandoned the hotel after our first night in it and were forced to pay a high price for a last minute reservation at another hotel. "It's a hostel."
The negative reviews are right in the details, but Stay was a hostel, not a hotel. Given that, it wasn't a great hostel, although I've only stayed in four. My ratings compare it to other hostels, not hotels. I got a single room with a private bathroom, and the shower was not even in a stall or a bathtub—it was a section of bathroom floor that you drew […] the curtain around! I thought I'd seen it all. Main Street is pretty sketchy, but one block to the west is Spring, which has some cafes and a great bookstore. I recommend this for the young and inveterate who have hosteling experience. "A good located hostel (not hotel)"
The bed was very noisy. The bathroom was very small, the shower is the same place of the toilet. We found a bug in the room. The breakfast is extremely simple. The location is very good. It's not a hotel, I'd say it's more like a good hostel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Okay for 1 night, not a family place."
If you are going to stay here, MAKE SURE you get a place with a private bathroom, or else you will have to use the showers/bathrooms in the halls which in my experience were in poor shape. "Close to the restaurant & bars!"
I like the location of the hotel and the staff is very helpful, but my room was a little run down and had a faint smell of urine.
