"Quiet Stay at Reasonable Prices"
We had a corner room, so there were plenty of windows to let in the sunlight and breezes. The day was hot and humid, though, so we used the air conditioner, which worked fine. The bed was large and comfortable and the night was quiet. There are plenty of common areas where you can mingle, or cozy up with a book. The breakfast was good. The views from […] the front are gorgeous! We did have problem logging on to the wifi, and were never able to connect to the internet. If you get a second floor room, be prepared to carry your luggage up the steps because there is no elevator. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Located in beautiful area, gorgeous views. VERY peaceful and quiet! The cook made us a delicious breakfast! Comfortable bedroom. If up in the area, we would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A cute little place"
Such a sweet & cozy B&B! My husband and I enjoyed the pool and playing shuffleboard with our morning coffee. The grounds are well-groomed which I think helps keep the summer bugs at bay, but bring spray if you're sensitive it's a rural area. The small town is only a few minutes away which has a few restaurants, general store and ice-cream shop. (I didn't […] see any vending machines or anything, so if you get the late night munchies be sure to have bought items in town) Also note: The place is BYOB, but they have wine glasses etc available to use. Shower takes several minutes to warm up, don't be alarmed! We are from NYC, so we enjoyed being 'out in the middle of no-where'. It's quiet, come here to relax, play some tennis and be outdoors not to party. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
dexters was a nice getaway. We will be returning for sure! The rooms are very small and basic but the price is right and the room was clean. The hotel manager was accommodating and allowed us to relax and not rush us out right at check out. An the blueberry breakfast crumb cake was amazing and the best part was I got to sit an eat it peacefully with […] a cup of coffee overlooking the mountains :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was really attentive and pleasant. John made sure to tell us about the Inn's facilities and gave us directions for a place to eat that night. The room was pretty nice, and the only thing I could have wanted was a bigger bathtub. Overall, I was really pleased with the stay, and I wished we could have stayed longer.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Not the cozy B&B I hoped for"
Food was limited on the menu and main course was terrible. No furniture in the room other than a small wood chair.Genuine Expedia guest review
If you are looking for granite countertops and silk sheets this is not the place for you. BUT - if you are looking for a warm atmosphere, excellent food, kind service, and to be reminded of how wonderful the simple things in life can be.. Dexters is your place. This is my new favorite NH getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed outdoor games for family fun (shuffleboard, croquet, badmiton, horseshoes, bocce, etc) in the B & B's country setting with the surrounding mountains and views of Lake Sunapee. A place for an informal stay with sitting rooms available and a hearty homemadefull breakfast. Great to have activities on sight.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Delightfully out of the way"
Dexter's Inn is a delighful old house that is secluded and quiet. It was a very nice change from hotels near airports and highways. The staff was kind, checked on me twice, then left me alone, which I appreciated very much. Rolf (the gentleman that cooked breakfast in the morning) was very nice, very knowledgeable about the area and makes very tasty […] blueberry pancakes. It's an old house so it's very creaky, however, that added to the charm and home-like ambiance. The bathrooms were nice, but let the shower warm up before you hop in. Once the hot water came up to temperature, showers were excellent. Overall, I had a very nice stay in scenic Sunapee, NH, at Dexter's Inn, and would not hestitate to returrn for personal time off. "New Hampshire get away"
Stay was great, John the innkeeper was fantastic, and the hotel was as described. It's not the hilton but nor is it supposed to be, it's a great old farmhouse from a time long ago. I would recommend this place to anyone. My only regret is we couldn't have stayed longerGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel der besonderen Art"
Das Dexter's Inn liegt abseits der Hauptstraßen ruhig gelegen mit wunderbarem Blick in die Berge von Vermont. Die Zimmer sind verteilt über das Grundstück. Eine alte Scheune ist ausgebaut zum Freizeitbereich. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker. Pancakes und Bacon werden "to your order" frisch zubereitet. Das war sehr lecker. Das Personal ist äußerst freundlich […] und hilfsbereit. Wir können es auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quaint hotel in lovely location"

We stayed two nights recently and found this to be a quaint and unpretentious place from which to explore the surrounding areas. We had dinner one night and found the food to be a little on the pricey side but good. The gardens were covered in snow but looked like a lovely setting.

I probably would not go back. It was way overpriced - but I understand the owners problem. How do you keep up a big old building that has had poor renovations and a low occupancy rate without charging a big price. On the same trip we stayed in a B&B in Hanover NH. It was a little more expensive but about ten times the value experience. Breakfast is very average.
"Comfortable, unpretentious Inn"

Our bicycle group stayed here in September and had a wonderful time. Dexter's Inn is an old property that is lovingly maintained. It is not luxurious but very comfortable with a lot of amenities....a pool, tennis courts, lawn games, and a sweet little room for children to play in. We stayed in the annex, which was not fancy but very comfortable. Someone else complained about the noise on the road outside the door, but we never noticed the noise and I am a light sleeper. The owner is gracious and easy-going and fun to talk to. This would be a GREAT place for a family reunion or wedding....

We stayed in the annex, which I don't recommend. It's RIGHT ON the road so the occasional car goes by at 45 mph 21 feet from your head. Also, the sun comes streaming in the windows-with-blinds like a spotlight, so this is not the place for sleeping late (note to inn-owners: please put up some room-darkening curtains -- the shades don't work at all!). The decor is sweet but very dated, the bathroom floors are linoleum -- there is a neat O'Brien cartoon in the lounge from 1956 and I think that's the last time the furniture was changed. That said, the grounds are spectacular, the location lovely, the outdoor recreation super-fun (badmitton, tennis, outdoor pool, shuffleboard, horseshoes) and the breakfast was fine. I can see this as a great place for a family reunion, but only put the brother-in-law you DON"T like in the Annex!
"Enjoyable Stay in Sunapee"
08/05/14 Bill M Boston, Massachusetts
My extended family enjoyed a reunion and wedding at Dexter's Inn recently this summer. The setting was beautiful, on a mountain overlooking the lake. The inn itself was spacious and had many outdoor amenities (swimming pool, tennis courts, lounging areas, lawn games, hiking trails). We booked 20+ rooms in three different buildings, all within easy walking distance. The staff were very attentive and courteous, and the price was reasonable. The inn is a "no frills" experience out in the country (so don't expect flat screen TVs or central air in every room), but the place was very clean and comfortable. Free wifi was available but did not always have a strong signal. The food was generally good, especially at the wedding reception, which took place under a large tent with a hard surface floor and parquet dance floor. (The eggs at breakfast were usually a bit overcooked, but the cinnamon bread was fantastic!) There were some attractions nearby, but we usually didn't venture off the property. I would definitely recommend Dexter's Inn for a large group gathering, and I hope to get back during the ski season one day.
"Nice Stay, Good Price"

We spent one night at Dexter's Inn in July, and found the accommodations quiet and reasonably priced. The room was lovely since we were in a corner room and had plenty of windows to let in daylight and breezes. The air conditioner worked fine as well, and we used it since the day was hot and humid. The setting is beautiful, with lovely mountain vistas everywhere you look. There are plenty of common areas to mingle, or cozy up with a book. The bed was large and comfortable and the breakfast was tasty also. We were not able to use the wifi for some reason, and we were never able to log on. The staff was friendly.
"Outstanding Location to Retreat with Family"
07/06/14 Don D Derry, New Hampshire
This is the second time in our family has congregated for a reunion at Dexter's Inn at Sunapee, NH. Like the first time, we thoroughly enjoyed our it at this location. The people running the Inn are nice, attentive, and thorough. The location is beautiful, nestled in the hills of Sunapee and overlooking forests and distant mountains. We had some unseemly weather for one, and the inn had a large tent up that had more than enough room for various activities. On the better days a well maintained pool is available and a number of lawn games including horse shoes, two full tennis courts, and shuffle board. The rooms that hosted our party of 60 varied in size to accommodate couples and families. The rooms are a little dated and the shower water uneven in temperature. The Inn also served us Breakfast every morning, a BBQ, and a Italian dinner all of which we appreciate by our party. All in all Dexter's Inn is a nearly perfect venue to host a large family outing or to have a romantic weekend getaway. We are all looking forward to the next reunion which we all want to be at Dexter's Inn.

In search of snow and an undisturbed area in which to snowshoe near the end of winter, my husband and I had the great fortune of discovering Dexter’s Inn. Dexter’s Inn is a spacious, unpretentious inn. With a book-lined living room, piano, two fireplaces, an inviting dining room and game room, we felt immediately warmed and welcome. We were greeted by John, the innkeeper, who paid attention to our needs throughout our stay and kept fires burning in the game room whenever we were relaxing there. He also provided guidance about the extensive and carefully groomed trails (for cross country skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing) This is a relaxing and beautiful place, with wonderful vistas, a talented and gracious chef (breakfast is available every morning and lunch and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays) and a comfortable ambience. The spirit of Dexter’s Inn is such that we shared conversation one afternoon with four MIT students who were visiting for skiing and dinner and enjoyed the impromptu talents of a virtuoso pianist who sat at the living room piano and performed music from Broadway to Brahms. No one complained, and everyone enjoyed his contribution to the evening. The grounds are extensive, and we can only imagine how beautiful they must be in spring, summer, and fall. We will find out, as we will definitely return.
"Great Family Escape!"

My husband and I took our two grown sons and their wives for a pre-Christmas getaway! Since one of the couples had recently adopted a puppy, we were thrilled to learn that there was a dog-friendly apartment. The four "children" and the puppy stayed in the apartment while my husband and I stayed in the main inn. Our room was very comfortable and the common areas in the inn were well-decorated and inviting. John was a friendly, gracious host. We also loved the delicious breakfasts served by Rolf, their charming chef. The rustic game room provided several hours of fun competition.

The Dexter Inn supplies the amenities to have fun--solar heated outdoor pool, shuffle board, croquet, tennis courts, outdoor space galore---you have access to a fridge, bring your own snacks and drinks for the day, go out to dinner and then relax in a beautiful, comfortable room. We had the front corner room of the main house. Absolutely wonderful. King sized bed, window seat overlooking the grounds, nicely appointed private bathroom. The overall atmosphere gave us time with each other without the world vying for our attention. The breakfast was delicious. The folks running this Inn are true hosts--seem to know when to offer assistance or conversation and when to let folks just enjoy their space. We stayed Sunday to Monday--perfect time for privacy. A marvelous get away.
