The hotel is a spectacular piece of architecture but most areas and rooms are in sore need of updating. Our room 430 was spacious with a small balcony. Unfortunately it faced Budapest hill which was lovely and quiet during the day but a ruckus teen party place at night. Be fore warned the hotel does not have AC so you will need to open the windows. The hotel and bath staff are very helpful and friendly and their English is perfect. The baths and swimming pools are fabulous and included in the stay. The breakfast buffet is huge and also included. We would stay again if the weather is not hot.

overall good,,the a/c wasn't working in the whole hotel it was very warm for this time of year we were told and the a/c wasn't turned on yet( how hard could it be to turn it on?) other than that it is a nice hotel in a great area and the staff was nice(other than the a/c part)

I just needed a hotel between flights. Make sure you check in with the shuttle service desk at the international terminal for arrangements to get the shuttle to the hotel. I called the hotel first and they told me to go to the shuttle booth which would make the arrangements for me. The shuttle was there is 5 minutes. I got in late and so the bar/snack at the hotel was closed. The shuttle passed by a McDonalds on the way but it was a mile and a half to the hotel. I wished I had got the driver to stop on the way!

Unusual , apartment type hotel, high ceilings, felt like staying with relatives rather than a hotel. Down the street from Great Market, walking distance to Danube. Loved the ambiance.

"Great hotel !"
The Budapest city central hotel is a nice hotel in the heart of the city. Although the building the hotel is in is a little decrepited looking, the hotel rooms themself are very nice and comfortable. This hotel is a little complicated to get to if you don't read the other reviews, but it is actually one of the best locations in the city! This hotel was great. Its location was superb. The breakfast included was a voucher for a cafe across the street. The room was clean, bathroom fine, linens clean, very high ceilings so the room appeared even bigger then it was. We had a room overlooking the street which wasn't noisy. The only drawback is the entrance to the hotel. You walk into a run […] down courtyard with a few other store fronts, then into the elevator to the 1st floor, (2nd floor if your taking the steps). Once outside the elevator, you walk down a dark corridor with paint peeling off the walls, bad lighting. I never felt unsafe but it looks bad from the outside. The hotel is not so difficult to find as some reviews suggest -- just pay attention to the directions provided by the hotel, and follow the signs to the reception desk. Note that it is not easy for a taxi to drop you at the front gate if you have a lot of luggage -- we had to be dropped off around the corner due to traffic. A little hard to find the entrance at first and steps leading to the upper floor were dark however, everything about the inside of the hotel was great. We especially liked the receptionist, Anna, who was sweet and pleasant and most helpful giving directions and getting our taxi to the airport. "Budapest City Central-- disappointing"
Location was fine although Hotel itself is hard to find and you have to access through a pretty old and spooky hallway and elevator. Staff is very nice but accomadations are basic to say the least. Mold in shower, thin mattresses with only a bottom sheet and then the comforter. Pillows lumpy. Best thing about the room was that floors were tile and looked […] fairly clean. The hotel is at the perfect location within Budapest! You are within walking distance to the metro line that connects all 3 lines! The hotel is very secure. We are so glad we found the Budapest City Central Hotel. It is located right in the heart of Budapest and easily accessible to the major sites either by walking or mass transit. The staff was wonderful and very helpful for first timers to the city. They offered breakfast at the café next door and discounts at a local restaurant. "Very happy camper"
The location was fabulous...we didn't have problems like others had mentioned finding the place. If you arrive late or on the weekends use the call box next to the gate and call them (# 102) and they can buzz you in. The front desk staff was so friendly, helpful, and nice. The entrance to this hotel is a bit hard to find, like mentioned in other reviews here. You need to come in from the south entrance of the building, take the elevator, and follow the signs. "Karoly Central - A true gem in Budapest"
I can't stress enough how helpful the staff at the Karoly Central hotel was. From providing us with restaurant, tourist attraction, nightlife, and transportation tips, to being around 24/7, the customer service was beyond all expectations. We also found a complimentary bottle of Hungarian wine in the room, with a balcony to enjoy it on, clean beds, […] clean bathroom, a TV with a DVD player, and heated towels. The location is perfect, across the street from the synagogue, walking distance to most everything, and in a quirky building on top! They're small and go out of their way to make their guests happy, with a genuine pride and knowledge about Budapest! "Budapest Karoly Central"
This is a wonderful budget hotel, but be prepared for a funky building. The small hotel is on one floor of a multi-function building, so it's a bit hard to find. The building is a mess, but the hotel itself is fine. The location in Pest is ideal.
"Nice hotel hard to find"
If you come here on Sunday the door to the courtyard is locked, and there is only a tiny sign on the bottom of the call box sign to tell you the hotel is there. It took us 45 minutes to find the hotel. Other than the 2nd floor location, the hotel was fine. The staff were very helpful and the location was great.

We recently had an enjoyable stay in the Budapest Karoly Central Hotel. Yes, it is a little hard to find because it is tucked inside a building and lacks the traditional front street entrance. The hotel is hard to find. There is no sign outside the building. The hotel is on one floor of a 5 story apartment building with shops on the bottom level. "Great value, just don't mind the building"
The hotel is in an excellent location - 2 important metro stations are minutes away on foot, the Great Synagogue is just around the corner, the bridge to Buda side is also minutes away on foot. The room and bathroom were very clean, beds comfortable, staff was very friendly and helpful - they let us leave our luggage and looked after it for the whole […] day after checking out. Wi-fi was also good and stable. The only problem is the access to the reception and the rooms - they are a part of a large building, signs could be more clear and obvious, and it certainly doesn't look very promising while your finding your way through the building - I expected a lot worse by the looks of it. The hotel was convenient for all the local sights and attractions, but was tucked inside a building of offices and apartments, making it difficult to find at first. The room was clean but very basic. Staff were very friendly and polite and spoke good english.

"Not your typical hotel"
It's entrance is actually a backalley; photos are misleading. Rooms were really small, so was the toilet. Pillows were not very clean. Very very small tv. Breakfast was included, but not buffet. It was decent though. Free wifi was good. Staff were friendly and helpful.

"Good location and lovely staff"
Everything was fantastic about our stay except for the terrible smell in the bathroom, caused by the age of the pipes in the building! Luckily the staff were lovely and allowed us to use another bathroom for showers. Despite this glitch we would stay here again, though perhaps not in the same room :)
"Old building but newly renovated"
It's located just a hundred meter away from the metro (Astoria) station so it's convenient if you arrive with train (2 stops from central station). You may feel a bit strange when you go into the old building as you could hard to find the small hotel signage. And the old elevator may terrify someone. Note the hotel only occupy half of the 1st floor […] and divided into two sections. We have 10 ppl and thus occupied almost all rooms in our 4-nights visit. However, the hotel is newly renovated and we feel comfortable with the rooms, including the bed and the washroom, etc. No matter what, it's value for money and the reception staff(s) are very helpful. The hotel is part of a complex which is dark and dreary. It is found on the first floor and not easy to find. At the top of the building there is a huge "Ford" sign. The room was small and my husband had to climb into bed from the bottom of the bed. Breakfast was next door.

At first we couldn't find it at all, should be more information on how to access it, its based on the second floor and made of few apartments, staff extremely friendly, room clean with nice bathroom and balcony, breakfast in the nearby coffee shop with wifi, after all interesting concept, maybe more suitable for younger people :-)
